Knowing better not to mess with something that's working, I went into memaid and did some cleaning to remove those programs that didn't uninstall correctly. Now I am missing half of the stuff on my Today screen such as messenger, screen lock, pocket weather, etc. If I go into the Settings/Todays/Item, the items that used to be there are mostly gone. But for some reason they still show up in memaid as valid item on today screen.
Anybody know how I can restore these missing items?

Upon further examination, it appears all the plugins on today screen are still within the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\TODAY\ITEMS\
Each entry does show ACTIVE=1. It's as if Today screen is not picking up these plugins.

I have heard that MEMAID has done this before - possibly removed important notification.
If I was you would reinstall missing today items and all should be well
Except there are a few items that's part of the system, specifically device lock. Any idea how I can reinstall those?

Oops sorry no idea, if the reg entries are there they should appear. Have you tried uninstalling memaid and any other today screen plugin you have recently installed = otherwise looks like hard reset time!
Backup and hard reset
is the logical thing to reinstall these items, then restore. That might get everything back, but you might instead think this is an opportunity to do a hard reset and build a clean system up from scratch.
I was saving the hard reset as the last resort. Last time it literally took me 4 hours to install everything back.
But it looks like I'll end up doing that, unless if anybody else has some good suggestions...

I have an xda II and have noticed that the tasks section of the Today screen is missing. I have checked all the Today screen settings and it doesn't appear there. Where has it gone :?:

Too many Today Apps
It's possible that you're running too many today plugins - there's a limit of something like 12 - if you install anything more than that the system bumps one off the list. You need to uninstall one that you don't use and the Tasks item will pop back onto the list after a soft reset.
I had a similar problem when I installed alarmToday - had to get rid of my Calendar+ item and use the system Calendar one instead.

Slightly different issue: Task Icon Missing from Program Bar
In the first few days with my XDA-II, I loaded many apppications to test - including several launchers before settling on Battery Pack 2004/Program Bar
In spite of dozens of soft resets, and more than one hard reset, at some point the list of applications that could be launched by Program Bar suddenly lost the "tasks" option & tick icon and I cannot get it back.
I think it went while trying one of the other launcher applications, because I'm sure it used to be there, and it shows up on most vendors screen shots of their products, but I cannot understand why it hasn't returned even after the hard resets.
It's not a major problem, as I have the tasks item on the Today screen anyway, and I can treat Tasks as a user-defined item in Program Bar by giving the file link (although it doesn't pick up the "tick" icon) - but it just irritates me that it seems to have vanished!
Any ideas on how to get it back.

This is for the Imate III users and gurus out there.
After much teeth gnashing, hair pulling and Im sure a few new wrinkles Ive come to this conclusion.
The Imate III appears to lock the today item registry key preventing modification of today settings even though you have deselected the today item. This seems to be locked until such times as you soft reset the device.
In some cases this effectively leaves the key in place even after the removal of the item using remove programs.
A couple of people have highlighted this when trying to upgrade from one version to a later version of software. Wouldnt have been noticable except that I changed where I installed the application from the Windows directory to its own directory under Program Files.
What appears to be the fix is to deselect the plugin from the today screen. Then soft reset, then remove the program. After all this then install the new version.
BTW the Imate II doesnt have this problem. You still cant delete the programs main key until soft reset but the today manager does do its thing correctly in the today item part of the registry.
Any suggestions of what might be causing this and what would be the best way to tackle this would be very appreciated.

I've noticed that when I add or remove a today screen plugin, the change doesn't take effect until I soft reset. I don't believe this is normal and its caused by some app or tweak I have done.
I have tried using Mortscript to force a refresh as well a freeware app called TodayRefreshCmd, but nothing seems to work short of a soft reset. I have removed all today plugins, rebooted and tried to add one like "Owner Info" and it won't show up either.
Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?
Yes Iam experiencing it. I am using a black majik rom but this did not happen before, i upgraded to black satin and now back to black majik, and later i tried to play around with the different kaiser home plug ins and now i notice whenever i try to change a background image on the today screen or any plug ins to on and off the change doesn't reflect instantly like it did before unless you do a soft reset.
any help would be appreciated.

I restored a previous backup and the problem was not there. I was using an app called HTCustom that Shadomite created for another HTC device that did different hacks for. I think that was the culprit.
If you installed any similar "Hacks" app then it may be the cause.

hi i stupidly added a freeware app that said it could do a few extra things
Xperiatweak cant do (named htcustom v1.8) i was messing around with it and when i told it to execute my changes, it said there was some sort of error.
so i removed the app and soft reset (just to be "safe") now there's a black box thing covering the volume and half of the network icons. PLUS not there's a super small batt at the BOTTOM of the today screen.
is there anything i can do to solve this or will i have to hard reset?

I reckon a hard reset would be the best option (backup your data of course).
Whatever changer have been made will only be half implemented because of the crash, and without knowing what the changes actually were it's impossible really to change them back. They could be overwritten windows files, reg entries, anything really.

I know this issue has been posted before but there have been no fixes. So...
All my start menu icons have disappeared. I noticed this today but could have happened a few days ago. I'm using BSB Tweaks, and have reversed all settings that were changed but still no luck (after several soft resets).
The icons and files are still present in the Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder. Also, when I hit settings, all settings, the menu isn't showing.
Can anyone help with this? I really do not want to flash it again!
Same thing here... already happened something like 1 month ago, the only way to get it back was a hard reset, hope someone know another way. Isn't there any update to solve this issue?
I´m using a T-Mobile HD2, with the stock ROM.
EDIT: Another thing happened when the icons gone away, the phone does not rings anymore, no matter what.
