VGA for HTC Apache (sprint 6700) - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Is there anyone that has successfully got the VGA hack to work for the 6700 phone?
I still have not been able to unlock the files that I have to replace with the VGA zip (I have tried lots of different unlock programs).
If anyone could help I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
Current phone info versions:

doesn't apache has a 320x240 screen? I thought that only universal had VGA screen at the moment

I missed that as being necessary. It is only 240x320.
my goal is to be able to use vijay's program to scale the remote client down so I see a full screen for terminal services client.
I know it will be small, but I would still like to do it.
any options out there that anyone knows of?

vijay can assist you better in this regard... though you will still see only 320x240th portion of the screen... not very useful

Yes, you can still use the progam to get the full 320x240, but that's all your screen is capable of. Can't help you further without a higher resolution screen really. In the old days you could use a virtual screen resolution program, but not sure if they're WM5 compatible any more.
V

I would like to get the most out of what I can.
Can you direct me on how I can unlock the files that I have to replace for the VGA files?
Thanks.

dtaramanda: you may have misunderstood. Whatever you do to your phone, you won't be able to get a true 640x480 resolution screen. Your screen is physically made only to show 320x240, whatever files etc you use.
As I said, you can check out this app:
http://www.nyditot.com/NVDPage.asp
for a virtual 640x480, but frankly, it's not worth the effort, the screen will be almost unreadable because your hardware can't do it naturally.

remote desktop resolution setting - terminal services client

Hi,
I've searched the forum. There are many threads about Terminal Services client problems; however they are in general about full screen availability.
My problem is somewhat different:
I am looking for resolution setting like in the Windows XP Terminal Services client.
Is there any software or hack that enable this ?
I want to be able to manage a bigger area of the remote desktop.
So I need a client which would change the remote desktop resolution setting.
I can't believe that MS didn't put a client with this capability in WM5.
If that's not possible, maybe I cold try to use a virtual screen software that would allow higher resolution on my PPC device with panning ???
Is there some sort of application for this ?
Please DO FOLLOW my articles / DO use the forum / local Wiki search engine - I've also answered your q in both the Wiki and .
In a word: with TSC, you can't.

Menneisyys,
Thank you I'd already read the first 2 pages but the answer is in 3rd page I guess. I'll read it. I hope there is "hope"
At this moment I have a more urgent problem:

So I'm trying to solve it first...

Sure there is - all the reviewed apps allow for ANY remote desktop resolution; it's only TSC that doesn't.
I have a very bad restriction: I can only use remote desktop protocol because of y work company policy.
It's not much of a solution, but use Nyditot and enlarge your virtual screen size. Then shrink to fit the display, and it'll match your screen resolution.
V
vijay555,
I tried Nyditot and it's impressive. Really nice to see like 640x480
However, I couldn't adjust the screen alignment. My pointer does not go to some areas of the screen. How can I do pointer alignment ?
Ooops I made a mistake.
Now because of Nyditot my device does not boot up.
It stays in the splash screen forever.
Is there anything else then Hardreset ?
mrmrmrmr. I've used Virtual display on a SPV M5000 and with the default rom it would freeze as soon as I booted to enable it and a hard reset was required.
I tried it again after flashing a different rom and it worked a treat. Since then I've loaded various AKU3 roms and now WM6 and Virtual Display has worked with all but that original Rom.
Afraid you'll need to hard reset but try different roms to see if you can find one that VD is compatible with
If you get it working VD will allow much larger screens than 640x480 if you can stand scrolling around.

See if that one works... if it does, let me finish patching it
i can install it, but it looks so:
Ok, that means that my patch for it to work on WM5, makes it work on VGA devices too.
When I have the time, I'll increase the size of the graphics so that you can use it on VGA resolution. BTW: what's the standard VGA resolutions?
VGA = 640x480

Looking for beta-testers

Hi everyone !
I'm requesting a bit of help : I'm finishing up the latest release of Skinz Sudoku Pro (freeware version will come back a few days later, I have some things to adjust first ^^), version 1.30, and need beta-testers now...
The main features to test in the version :
- Better speed on slow devices and VGA
- Bugfixes (hints, awards, etc...)
- Custom sudokus (enter sudokus from a newspaper and play it later on...)
- New menu (nothing major, just to allow more stuff like custom sudokus ^^)
- Optimized ram use some more, smaller exe
The save format has been updated to allow custom sudokus. Because of this, people using very old saves may have their saves corrupted. To limit the damage, Skinz Sudoku will automatically create a backup of old saves. If you have problems, please send me that backup and I'll try to fix it...
Devices I'm looking for to test on (1 of each if possible) :
- WM2003SE, WM5, and WM6 240x320 PocketPCs
- 480x640 PocketPC
- Devices having the slow display driver problems (HTC TyTN II, HTC Touch Dual, etc...)
- 240x320 Smartphones
If you have one (or more ^^) devices corresponding to my needs, please PM me your email and the device you have (name + OS + screen size), I'll send you a test copy as soon as possible.
Thanks to everyone !!!
(of course, any help with feedback will get you a free copy once the final version is released : )
i can test it in a smartphone running WM6
I don't play too often, but I would be glad to help. I have a Blue Angel running WM 6.1 (one of the pdaviet versions, don't ask me which one cause I don't remember ), 240x320 screen size.
Tester
I will test on mogul with no2 5060 rom
I'll test on my TYTN II for you
I currently have Skinz Sudoku freeware installed on my TyTN II.
That version runs great.
I you still need it, I can test your new version on my TyTN II.

Beta Feedback
Ok tried it and this is what I get (see pic below). The only way clear it is to soft reset.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Just an FYI..Perpetual image viewer did the same thing...
I could also test on X51V with WM6.1 I'm really addicted to sudoku
well, I played with it for a bit. Used every option and I have to say it looks great! Really fast, smooth transitions and animations. Will try it a bit more and see if I can find anything wrong with it, but so far I got nothing!
BA running pdaviet WM6.1
240x320

Yes as soon as I launch it. I can play it and the top bar just sits in the middle. Only way to clear it is to soft reset. Again the image viewer does the same thing, but it I play pipes it works fine. Not sure if you use similar coding for each app. The unit I'm using is an HTC Advantage
Not a big sudoku fan but i have a WM2003 device if it'll help. An Alpine with an official O2 ROM. Also got a non phone WM5 PDA, HP iPAQ rx1950.
I have a VGA device = i can help.
Well Here is my result :
tried it on my friends Himalaya running wm 2003se it works
tried it on my Blueangel running WM5 it works
tried it on my Himalaya WM 6.1 It works
tried it on my SP running WM 6..it worked in portrait mode only and its screen resulution is 240X320
I have an Atom Exec and am ready to try it.

Wasted Space on Liberated WinMo Screen

I have noted that the screen on the liberated WinMo shift has blank spaces to the right and to the left of the screen. The combined total area of wasted screen is almost 2 inches. Question is: is there a way one can utilize the full screen with WinMo for the the Today screen and for most of the programmes in their default application? I guess for the programmes that have full screen capability that might be possible. will check on that......
One other question which might be the subject of other threads here: is it possible to change the screen resolution in WinMo side? Sorry if I have asked something that may have been answered elsewhere.
Ed.
If I have understood what you mean ... everything is about switch from 640x480 to 800x480 (wide screen) but it is a well known issue and I think that nobody has been able to make it support the 800x480 resolution.. that's why you get this wasted space.
As the resolution is 640x480, you will never be able to get full today plugin or full screen program with 800x480 resolution... unless you get the 800x480 resolution to work.
You should ask "why not 800x480 by default from HTC?".... simple : no 800x480 support in WM6 sadly !
To get the 800x480 resolution, it first needs a rom with WinMob 6.1 (I think) or later .. which is not easy. And having that kind of rom may still be not enough.

Not true I'm afraid.
The Toshiba Portege G900 that I used to use runs WM6.0, and it supports 800x480. In fact, IIRC, it has the same CPU as the Shift/WinMo.
Regards,
Dave
Try this app (Danger: It can harm your device)
We use it for resolution switching in toshiba g900.
Just install SdkCerts and then main application. After that - launch WVGAFix.
Post result here if it is good or bad...
Remember - it can be dangerous, but it works great on my G900
I tried it, but only get an error saying "Sorry, WVGAFIX3 can't run on your system!"

[Q] Windows Mobile 6.0

I asked this elsewhere, but this is a better place to post i think.
Is it possible to have Windows Mobile 6.0 run on the HTC Touch HD? If so, what ROM would I need? I want an English version. I need to run some software on it which doesnt work with WM6.1 and WM6.5
roms have to be 100% custom made with just the correct drivers for it to work on a device
it would be a first if a rom cooker spend too much time cooking an older version then what came with the device be it wm6 or wm5 for that matter
so would not hold my breath
Shame, we needed to get ~80 of these downgraded to WM6.0 for the software to work. I wonder if Orange would accept 80 returned phones
Have sw compatibility problems? I used on WM6.1 all programs from WM5 w/o problems ^^
80 Devices? You could PM directly a cooker and ask him about your problem: you could find a solution

80!?! Holy crap?? What are those 80 HDs used for??
It could be possible but you would need to find WVGA resolution files for the WM 6.0 SYS build first. I don't think there were any WM6.0 WVGA devices.
Got a load of phones that we issue to satellite engineers for work. We have a bit of software than rubs on the phones and the engineers use it to get customer information, allocate stock to the customer, activate the customers hardware and subscription services ect.
We have never been able to get it to work with WM6.1 or WM6.5
It gives some error about graphics or display or something along those lines.
We currently use the HTC Kaiser (TyTnII) which came with WM6.1 and we had to flash them all to WM6.0 for the software to work.
Without the software, all the staff are unable to work.
Also, is there a way that I can install certain software and configure settings on a windows mobile device, then make a backup of that device and flash it to all the other devices? Its just that having to flash 80+ devices to windows 6.0 and then install framework, then software, then setup messaging and GPRS settings and a few other dependencies can be time consuming (about 30mins per device). When this is done for 80+ devices, well....you get the idea...
Have you tried WVGA fix?

With this you can change the screen to VGA which the program might work with.

Yes, you can do this with backup software like Spb Backup.. it backs up the phone's installed software and registry to a file which you can execute on another phone so that it is restored to the exact same way as on the original phone.
Or you can use something free called Sashimi.
Another thing is, if the ROM has User Customization built in, you can have the ROM look for a file called SDConfig.txt on your storage card, which contains a list of CAB/XML files on your SD card to execute automatically after a flash.

It will most definitely be the WVGA resolution that is stuffing the software up, all issues with software not running under windows 6.1 on the HD are caused by one of two issues:
1) Software dependencies, ie. Compact Framework version - I have never came across a software dependency issue that cant be fixed
2) WVGA vs VGA resolution, and in this case with it being a graphics issue you will definitely be able to get it running using the WVGA fix quoted by rovex.
All you need to do is install the WVGA fix, do a soft reset and use the program to change it to VGA mode before launching your application which wont work, i can all but guarantee this will fix the problem, of course the only issue is you will have to change the res before launching the app all the time.
I would also suggest you contact the manufacturers of the software (or if its in house contact your in house development department) and tell them to make it work in WVGA resolution, this should only be a minor change, after all they dont need to move all the controls around just ensure it loads even it dosnt use the whole screen.

I tried using that tool, but it still didnt work. Instead I just got a screen saying "We're Sorry" and something about cprog.exe has stopped working.
We have been told that it needs to be run on version 1.81.61.2 on the Kaiser, apparently this is the display or graphics version or whatever that is required for it to run, but im thinking this is the number that shows on the bottom right of the device when powered....
Anyway to find out exactly whats causing this error or any other work around?

I would suggest talking to the developer/manufacturer of the software your trying to get to work to see if they can modify it to work WVGA resolution. This would most likely be your easiest route, especially when all new devices will be on wm6.5 or later and not compatible with wm6.0

Yes, if the WVGA fix dosnt work then I can only assume that the software has been specifically designed to be locked to only work on the Kaiser phone, the only way you are going to fix this is to contact the manufacturer or employ a software engineer to reverse engineer the software and make it work on the HD, which could be costly and time consuming.
