I've been given the following instructions but i dont understand them...
Simply copy all the files from this archive to your PocketPC memory card.
Insert your memory card into your PocketPC and it will begin to install.
The problem is, that i dont know which is the setup file so it will install on my Vario?
What files do you have in the archive?
In my experience Tom Tom does not install on the Device. It has to be run on the PC with the Device connected to Acyivesync. However If you create the correct directories on the device and copy the correct files it just works (although there are problems with TT V5 on WM5).

Will give the posts a look, ive attached an image of the folders i got....when i put the storage card in, it loads tom tom for a second then doesnt... :S
Folders in attachment...
TomTom Navigator v5.00 (4890) with 'Great-Britain-Map' v562
Thats the version I've got mate, is the compatiable with Varios??
So your TomTom is on the storage card, not a CD.
I've never used that version but it is probably the same - try the following.
See if you have a ttncab folder in one of the folders (2577 I think).
If you do then try this.
Create some folders on the Device in memory (not on the card) as per the instructions in one of my posts on the links I gave you above.
- extract, rename and and copy the files over from the ttncab,
- copy the voices and zip file from the storage card to the device,
- move the map directory to the root of the storge card
you should find it works except for not being able to find the GPS device.
- setup your GPS device
If you have V5 you will have problems ( see other posts about the problems), but you could try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46634
and see if that works.
no worries mate, i installed all the cabs found on the CD and its installed
can anyone explain to me how to pair the devices so tom tom picks my bluetooth GPS ?
Thanks in advance
From a previous post:
This is what I did today on my XDA Mini S. It's collected from this and other forums.
First I had to install the GPS icon on the PDA in settings/connections using a freeware registry editor.
STEP 1: ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL
1. Start up a registry editor
2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
3. Delet the Dword in there and the value and replace them with:
A new DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
4. And create a new string called "(default)" with no value (I think there was originally a string called redirect, rename this "(default)" if it's there 5. The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings. (check it does)
note: you may have to soft reset after each stage if it appears not to work straight away but i managed to make these changes then saved them soft reset and then went to control panel in settings and a GPS option was there. You'll need this for the next stage. Wait about 1 minute before doing the soft reset.
STEP 2: Set up the GPS & Tomtom
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 6 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
3. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 6 free. Select COM 6 and close TT5.
4. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM (none)
5. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 6.
6. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
If you follow the above exactly it should hopefully work.
Dave
davidkw, is there not any easier way mate? if not then can you direct me to a decent reg edit that wont bugger my phone up? im kinda new with all this stuff as you can see....
Thanks for the hekp
Did you try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46634
If it works for you it saves doing any registry changes - you only have to transfer a file from the Device to the PC, edit it and copy it back.
If you keep a backup of the file you can replace it again if it doesn't work, then look at the other way to do it using the registry.
will give it a go mate, but how do i get a hex editor??
will give it a go mate, but how do i get a hex editor??
Try here, PHM Registry editor - you can make a back up before you make any changes. I'm new too but it's easy to use.

how do i get a hex editor?

I've attached one.
Unzip it and run the .exe.
Open the navigator.cfg and change the com setting.
I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like. In this you would change the '7' after 'COM' (yours will be something else - '2' if you used port 2).
ive installed the program dave, but i cant find it on my Vario :S :x :?:
pewe, ill give it a go mate, and get back to you. Thanks for the help and currently i only get the option for com 7 when tom tom only has 9...thanks for the attachement
pewe , i need some help mate...would i set com port in New outting going port or New in comming port...
also the hex editor stuff looks really complicated to me, is it possible if you can highlight the figures i need to change...in my tom tom right at the top it only allows me to use com port 9...
Thanks for the help so far mate  and dave for helping too
SBouri,
If you follow the registry instructions slowly and carefully, it will all work fine. i have just done mine and it works a treat.
I went a completely different way to get my tomtom working however by using the update from Tomtom themselves.
I wish I'd seen this first cos it was a real ass pain. LOL
would i set com port in New outting going port or New in comming port

Set the new 'outgoing' port.
Select port 6 or 7.
in my tom tom right at the top it only allows me to use com port 9...

Select any port in TomTom. If your only shows 9 - use that.
When you transfer the navigator.cfg to the PC and open it in the hex editor it will show COM9. Change the 9 to 6 or 7 depending on what you set up as the outgoing port for the BT unit.
Save the navigator.cfg and copy it back to the device to replace the existing one.
Start TomTom and see if it sees the device.

Anyone got TomTom 5 working with Windows Mobile 5?
I received my k-Jam this morning but the setup.exe bombs out so I cannot get TT5 installed at all
any help appreciated!
thanks
Try to install the .cab file instead, it should work.
thanks but I have tried that. 3 of the 4 CAB files install but the main one (ttn.cab) - looks like its going to install ok and then you get "the file....installation was unsuccesful".
Any ideas?
Nothing on the TT site - I'm surprised that X51v or other early Windows Mobile 5 users have not been onto this one?
It seems like a problem with Activesync 4.0 initially but as the cab files don't work i guess we need a patch from them?
anyone got it working?
thanks
TomTom 5 install Problem
I had the same problem with the auto run procedure on my mini SD card.
I solved the problem by navigating to the '2577' folder and running each cab file directly on the phone (didnt use activesync). This seemed to work for me.
However, now Im having trouble with bluetooth com ports. Tomtom configuration does not show the port numbers assigned to my paired gps reciever.
Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29282&highlight=tt5+kjam+qtek+wm5
Let me know how well tt5 runs on the k-jam ie how smooth etc as i'm awaiting my miniSD so can't try it yet!
TomTom Navigator 5.10 works with Windows Mobile 5 and Activesync 4 - but it's NOT easy. The instructions in this thread got it working for me (though I used COM4 instead of COM0):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386
Also I found that the bluetooth GPS had to be locked on to a signal for TomTom to see it at first - was fine after that.
Although my device is a HTC Universal, it has the same OS and Activesync version as your Wizard so there's no reason why it shouldn't work. Go to the above link and enjoy

I had the same problem. All cabs would install except the ttn cab. Here's how I solved it.
1. uninstall everything
2. install gps.cab
3. remove sd card and soft reset (this is the important bit)
4. install ttn.cab and this time it should work
Thanks for your help guys.
sl9; How did you get 5.1 to upgrade? After copying the files from the downloaded RAR file I tried to run the setup.exe file on the phone but get a message telling me that the file is not a valid windows mobile program (perhaps it is a smartphone program).

The setup.exe is meant to be run on your PC, it uses activesync. Obviously we know this doesn't work so the solution is to get the 5.10 upgrade from TomTom website as the ZIP FILE, NOT THE EXE - this is important
Anyway, extract the zip, and copy the directory with the 4 cab files in it to your SD card (where you have the map on). Then execute the cabs one by one, using the tip by jdee246 above if any of the cabs don't want to install.
After you install it, then the fun begins trying to get the damn thing to recognise your GPS device, see the link in my earlier post for a guide
Thanks guys - the soft reset seemed to do it. The manual install worked fine in the end.
I now have to wait for TomTom support to give me a code as I already had two a few months back so I can't report on how well it runs yet. Overall tho the Wizard/k-Jam is pretty slow - esp for screen refreshes.
I did try the BAKONL hack which I use to test TomTom on various devices but the ttn.cab on that patch just will not install for me under Win Mob 5.

Thanks to all for your help.
Managed to get Tomtom 5.1 up and running. 5.1 seems to have fixed the gps connectivity problem.
The software runs on the K-JAM just as fast as it did on my QtekS110, with no problems yet.

Thanks for your help.....
Who had install Tomtom 5 on the K-jam ?
Because it's too hard for me and I don't understand everything .... :?
Thanks for your help !!!!
In total you have to copy 4 files from your wm2003 device and paste to wm2005 in these dir:
mobile device\tomtom\CurrentMap.dat
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.bmp (voice files on cd)
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.chk (voice files on cd
\Program Files\navigator\data.chk
\Program Files\navigator\tomtom navigator.exe
\Program Files\navigator\navigator.cfg
that's all.
data05.bmp and .chk is for example, you can choose one of your own voices.
Look this up on your device other wise i send you my files so you can try them.
Good Luck
GuidO
Thanks for your help !!!!!
I try this tomorrow ....

T-Mobile MDA Compact
Hi Guys
I seem to also be having problems with my MDA.
I can install tom-tom just fine, but for some reason it just doesnt recognise my Bluetooth GPS receiver. The receiver brand & model is as per this page:
http://www.qstarz.com/html/products_BT-Q770.htm
I have enabled COM 4 & 5 in the bluetooth settings page and configred tomtom to connect using either com4 or com5 but it just doesnt work.
Any help in solving this problem would be much appreciated!
Many Thanks!
This for all of you who are still having problems...
This is what i did to get my Tomtom working on my T-mobile MDA Compact:
1. uninstall tomtom using add/remove programs.
2. using file explorer deleted the following folders:
\tomtom
\program files\navigator
\program files\contacts navigation
3. Using a registry editor - browse the software sub-folders of HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and delete any tomtom, tomtom navigator, and/or tomtom gps/ tomtom bluetooth supprt folders.
(in order to avoid steps 1,2,3 you can also perform a hard reset after you have backed up all your data & files)
4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> DRIVERS -> BUILTIN -> BTINSerial
5. Now change the index key from 4 to 6.
6. Exit the registry editor.
7. Soft reset your MDA.
8. Now install TTN5
9. After following the initial setup prompts of TTN5 exit it.
10. Now install tomtom nav. 5.1 (update available from the tomtom website)
11. Go back into tomtom and select "change preferences"
12. Go into GPS CONFIGURATION
13. Select Other Bluetooth
14. Select COM5
15. Click Done
16. Give tomtom about 10 seconds and your GPS navigation should now work OK!!!!
Hope this helps everyone who is trying to get this to work. I have spent a lot of time trying to find a solution that works and this i feel is it!
Needless to say use this solution at your own risk - all i can say is that its worked for me!
once installed, use this procedure.

It works 100%

ttn.CAB won't install despite reset
Tried installing TT5.0 on my Vario, but no luck. Like posted before, it won't install ttn.CAB. I tried:
removing all TT files, also from registry
soft reset,
installing gps.CAB,
remove SD,
soft reset,
then install ttn.CAB
but it still says 'installation failed'. Aaarrrggghhhhh
Any ideas, anyone?
Has anyone managed to install Destinator 3.075 on Jasjar
Yes, try searching and you'll find your answers!
1. Copy across the "DestinatorApps" directory to the PPC manually using active sync instead of using the installer
2. Copy the "DestDll.dll" into the windows directory of the PPC manually using active sync
Now you have destator installed (almost) the DestDll.dll also needs to be registered!
3. to register the dll I used "regsvr_arm.exe". just copy it onto the device, and run then select the "DestDll.dll" to register it.
4. Run Destinator and active it with you licence code as you would have previously
i had problems with connecting the com ports on destinator....so i just followed these steps:
First you've got to pair your GPS.
Then go to the "COM" tab in the bluetooth manager
Add a new outgoing port with the GPS as device (use a free com port usually try every single port until it accepts it)
And then do this:
5. Copy the "DestinatorApps/Destinator/Destinator.ini" to your desktop
6. Open this in a hex editor and change where it says C.O.M.6 to the com port of your gps. Mine was Com4 so I just changed
the 6 to a 4.
7. Copy the "Destinator.ini" file back onto the PPC
steps 5-7 i dont know if this is necessary coz after i did these steps, i closed the destinator program and then ran it and the "GPS was found automatically"....but when u go to the gps settings on the destinator program its on COM 1....and COM 4 was not on the list......but i didnt bother trying to set it up as per instructions coz its already working for me......just another note, if u turn off your gps receiver while the destinator program is running and then turn on the receiver again ur not going to be able to connect to a gps satellite etc......u have to actually close the destinator program and start it again and it will again automatically connect ur gps......its a bit complicated trying to follow the instructions......but if u follow it properly it will work.......well it worked on my jasjar as well as my XDA II with WM2003SE.....good luck
yes, thanks hadn't thought of that....
of coarse I have tried searching, I have spent 3 hours doing so ... I have found lots of references especially to a post by believer... haven't as yet found the post which gives the actual full answer ...
found one which gave the ini mod for getting around the os check
-------
if anyone else is looking for answers that part is:
modify the [Platforms] section of C:\DestinatorApps\Installer\Console\Default.ini
add the line
P2577V351=ARM
-------
what I haven't found is the issue of the dll being registered.
Now that you have wasted everybodies time and had me write all of this, are you likely to be helpful and provide a link, (as you seem to know where it is) or are you more a smartass without a clue than a geovass.

Destinator on JasJar and regsvr_arm.exe
Can anybody please point me in the right direction as to find regsvr_arm.exe. I have followed all the directions so far and when I try run destinator I get a Destinator object creation error. The only thing I havn't done is the register bit, please.
here you go
Destinator turns off after some minutes
First of all, thank you everybody who gave instructions for the installation, of the Destinator specially for irv777. I followed the irv777 instructions and I could install the Destinator and configure the GPS perfectly. But I could notice that after using some minutes the Destinator, the screen of my Pocket PC turned off and when I turned it on again (using the light button), the GPS communication was lost because the GPS COM Port was changed. Does anybody have the same problem? Does anyone have any idea of what is happening in my case? I could realize that when I open the registry on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Apps/DestinatorApps of my Pocket PC it is different from the registry of the Pocket PC of my friend who installed the Destinator using the custom metodology (he doesn't have WM5). Is it the cause of that problem? If it is the cause how can I fix it? I don't know how to edit registry.
I havn't found any problems with it on mine. a possible work around for you might be to change the power and light settings so they don't turn off when you are using destinator.....
;-)
good luck
obviously i am doing something wrong here....
copy the destinator apps were in the ppc? i dont have enough memory eventhough my exec is recently formated (ppc 32mb free/destinator apps 36mb).
anybody?

2. copy all files (140MB) of them to the storage card
3. were trying to run ...\ARM\Independent\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Destinator.exe and got the error message described in the discussion
4. registered the dll in the windows directory...
now when trying to run the destinator.exe from the storage card I'm getting nothing (the screen flicker once)...
any ideas? any help would be appriciated.

Is the procedure similar if you have an embedded GPS?
I have a Mio P350 & want to put Destinator 3 on it, do you install the console on the PC first, if so what files & from where do you install on the PDA, & what do you install on the SD card?
Appreciate any help I can get, as the MioMap v3.2 is driving me crazy!
Hi,
I just tested successfully the following procedure:
1) install TT5 using .cab files (transfer to the device & run each one)
2) pair BT unit;
3) configure TT5 using "Other Bluetooth GPS", "max baud rate", "com 0";
4) close TT5;
5) copy the navigator.cfg file (in Programs\Navigator on your device) via Activesync to desktop;
6) open the file with wordpad - DO NOT ALTER anything else but COM0 to COM5;
7) close the file;
7b) save the file modified back to the device;
9) Turn on BT reciever;
10) start TT5, wait a few seconds and...voilà !
Cool
I'm glad to see that someone else has tried it and it works for them too.
thanks Italos !!!

Makes no difference m8 - the problem seems to be "universal"
It should work if you follow those instructions, you have a BTGPS receiver and whatever install of TT5
Hi Guys,
New on this Forum, bought a Qtek 9100 a few days ago.
Have been struggling since to get tomtom 5 to work with my BT GPS, and
I just wanna say big thx to Italos for the instructions, worked like charm.
One thing though, I still got TomTom 5, I tried to install the 5.1 update and ended up in it saying it can´t find any maps...ok so back in version 5 all that was located in the "\My Documents\TomTom\CurrentMap.dat file. SSo I edited that one to point to my map on the storage card.
Fired up TomTom 5.1 again, and still not working, ok then I was not sure I had a real tomtom5 map, so I tried to extract the map from the TomTom5 DVD, well wen´t fine just to extract the cab, but I then ended up with these files.
00000.poi.010
000cline.006
000faces.004
0mapinfo.005
0traffic.009
SCANDI~1.000
SCANDI~1.007
tmccodes.008
I guess it will work if I extrackt these ones and replace those on my card, but how do I go about it?
I have tried with winrar, and that does not work, anyone who knows which program can extract these files?
thx / fahlis

? So your saying version 5 will work if I have an original tomtom bluetooth receiver?
ok maybe i'm not fully understanding this? If version 5.00 works on WM5 (my xda mini s) which it does why all the fuss about you must upgrade to 5.21 if you have WM5?
the only eason i ask is because my 5.21 version of tomtom stoped working after a while (dont know why),but when i reinstalled i forgot to update, so at the moment mine says version 5.00 and it's working fine with no problems
cheers
For my knowledge I think because it work already once with tomtom 5.21 some necessary files has been already loaded into the storage card & the device therefore when you reinstall TT v 5.00 it work just fine because you already have the com port existing therefore everything was ok.
To my knowledge when I install the TT 5.00 I cant find the com port for the gps then after I install the update version it appear depend on were you set it.
Hope this help clarify

Firstly i cant get the gps control panel to appear in settings/connections. I've done the reg edit then soft reset but stil nothing? I've read all the threads i could find but just cant get it to work. Stupid question but do i need to do the reg edit? Could someone please tell me how they installed and got it to work? please!
I have included pic of what my reg edit looks like.
please help
cheers
that looks correct, then when you go into "connections you should have a new icon "GPS"
one thing to check, if you have another regeditor check the same place in the registry
you may find what you are looking at at the moment has not been saved.
may sound silly but you may be viewing something like cache memory.
which editor are you using? (sorry if you have already said)
i'm using PHM regedit. And that pic was after i saved and exited and soft reset. As you can see the reg edit is still there after reset just no gps icon???
If i'm running tomtom 5.21 would i still need to do the edit?
cheers
tomtom5.21 without reg Editor
hi, I give you my steps that I did and it work for me even in the xda exec .
1 first connect your gps with your pda trough Bluetooth accept serial (thick the box)
Then create an outgoing serial port any (free one in my case com6)
2 after you copied the files of tomtom v5.00 into your storage card, in your ppc do file explore and look for a folder Inside your storage card called 2577 open it, (installing cab) ,first click gps then pimaddin then ttn then wzd install them all to your device.
3 now go to the update file 5.21 click on setup follow the screen the you will get a message saying the previous version……… just click ok .after the installation finish
then voila all should be fine just follow the screen you will be asked to enter your activation code again * (if you dont have email me )then setup tt5 as you like for the gps setting you will find the com6 added, simple for tt gps reciver but If you have a third party gps receiver just use the port that you created earlier (outgoing port com6 in my case) .
it should work no need to edit any registry becouse I havent and is working 100% in my mda vario and xda exec.
hope this help
cheers mate. managed to get it working. Just have probs with my bt receiver now. very poor signal.
cheers
Hello,
I have installed TTN5 to my device rom.
Now I have put the "Florida-Map" in the root directory of my mini-sd card.
When I start TomTom it says there's no maps detected.
I have read some other forum about it but no one has found a solution.
Any ideas please ?
-----------------------------------------------------------
I found the solution for the NO Maps Detected:
Your problem like many others is not your version of TomTom its your versions of the map.
I realise the maps you currently have used to work on your older tomtom version.
Look for complete map sets of the USA. USA Eastern-Map, USA Western-Map...and so on.
DO not ask me or PM me for where to find those files.
Look on file sharing networks or buy them from TomTom
Hope this helps

TomTom Bluetooth GPS Ports WM5 Working Setup 100% Easy Step By Step !
First of all I would like to say thank you to "thereaperman" from Modaco Frums for this great help ! I took this from him and making it accessible to this forum easily for others to use !
Here are his steps:
STEP 1 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
You do this by copying the CAB files from the CDROM (eg F:\PocketPC) to the K-JAM and launch one by one from there with the explorer of the K-JAM
.
You can install voices the same manner by copying the CAB files to the K-JAM (eg from F:\Voice on the CDROM)
STEP 2 : UPGRADE TO V5.1
EDIT: Please use the tomtom official site to obtain the update here
STEP 3 : ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL
Fire up a registry editor (eg http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml )
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Delete the DWORD marked "hide"
Add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings.
STEP 4 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 6.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 6 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
FOR THE Wizard or IF NOT WORKING ON YOUR DEVICE TRY:
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to WHATEVER NUMBER IS AVAILABLE EXCEPT 6.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and
CHANGE GPS BT PORT SETTINGS TO WHATEVER NUMBER YOU CHOSE IN STEP 6
it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
Hope this helps all of you !!!
1. Create a txt file on your pc called Currentmap.txt
2. In txt file write "\xxxx-xxx\yyyyyyy"
xxxx-xx = name of your sd card as shown in file explore
yyyyyy = name of you current map file as shown in file explorer
3. Save the txt file
4. rename the txt file to Currentmap.dat
5. On you Wizard create a folder in your My Documents folder called TomTom
6. Copy the Currentmap.dat file into this directory
7. Start TTN and hopefully it will see the map
THank you,
But didn't work for my situation. I even tried to take the CureentMap.dat file from my instalation from my JAM but that didn't do it either !
Any other suggestions please ?
This seems to be a problem on multiple forums that no-one has figured out yet.
Same problem, here. I got an older map which I used on my Treo 650 which doesn't seem to work with WM5 version. I presume these maps are interchangeable since it's strictly data. Put California-map in the root directory and has the same issue as the OP's.
I've read from another forum that old maps (5.0?) do not work with 5.21. Is that the case? Appreciated if someone can confirm so I don't have to waste my time playing w/ this.
here is how I did it:
On your desktop, launch Notepad.
Type & \Storage Card\New-England_and_Mid-Atlantic-Map\ or whatever the name of your main map folder is on your mini-SD card. Do not forget to add the final backslash and a have a space between the ampersand and the first backslash.
Save the file as CurrentMap.dat. Make sure it doesn't end up as CurrentMap.dat.txt!
Put the file in My Documents/TomTOm on your device.
Worked for me with my Benelux Map.
canada and USA maps doesn't work with tomtom 5. You can make it work using bakonl version 5.1 but not higher
As far as I know 5.21 only works with the plus maps.
I had a WM2003 PDA and had TT V5 on it.
I now have a new device with WM2005 OS and I installed TT V5. TT Worked (including finding maps) but could not see the BT GPS.
I upgraded to TT V5.21 and it worked. It sees all the European Maps.
However to install TT V5 I had to do it manually because the install did not like connecting to the device using Activesync. I did it by creating the required directories on the Phone manually, extracting TTN.cab on the PC, renaming the extracted files and manually copying them to the Phone. The TT V5.21 installed the upgrade OK over Activesync.
If anyone wants the full instructions on how I did it I will post them.
Please provide instructions!
OK - Heres what I did - please note that this is the exact process I followed (twice) and it worked for me. If it doesn't work for you I'm not sure what you can do. But I used TT V5 and the UK/France/Italy/European Maps that came with it.
--------------------------------------------------
step 1 : INSTALL TOMTOM5 Manually
On the PC, Extract the files from within the cab ttn, (its in the PocketPC directory of the install CD.)
Rename 000file0.001 to dat.chk
Rename 000file1.002 to TomTom Navigator.exe
Rename 000file2.003 to CurrentMap.dat
Create a folder in on the device in 'my device-> Program files->' and call it Navigator - place data.chk and TomTom Navigator.exe in here.
Create another folder in 'my docs' called tomtom and place remaining file CurrentMap.dat in here.
For voices I only installed a 'celebrity voice' so I put the files for it in a directory I created called 'voices' in 'my device'.
If you have them OK, if not you will have to get them from a previous install - or create your own.
Now copy the Map Directory of your choice from your TT CD to your Storage Card.
step 2 : SETUP GPS DEVICE
1. Pair your device with your GPS BT unit and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In the COM PORTS setting for the BT, select 'New Outgoing Port' and for the BT GPS unit set it to 7
Now launch TT and hopefully it will start and go through the install process. When you get to the point where it asks you to select the GPS device - select 'Another bluetooth GPS', and you will be asked to select the Port. If you see COM 7 free - select it. (If not - mine didn't -, select another port to get through the startup, but when TT starts it will report no GPS device found.)
If you did not see COM 7 when you ran TT5, then the chances are you need to upgrade to V5.21 and once upgraded start TT and go to 'Change preferences' - 'GPS Status' and configure the GPS unit again when COM 7 should appear (mine did).
The upgrade also added a standard voice which was not there before.
------------------------------------------
Good Luck

On my iPAQ i origionally loaded TTN v3 with all the associated maps. When TomTom announced the upgrade to TTN v5 i took the oppertunity (All the maps of western europe for £60 seemed to be a bargain). After updating to version 5.0 I have been using it ever since. A few months ago i updated it to v5.21, (essentially its a pair of cab files that do all the upgrading to 5.21) this only updates the software, and does not alter the maps in any way.
TomTom nav v5 maps are all similar, the plus maps just contain newer information (like newly built roads). What TTN5 will not do is read the maps from earlier versions of TTN, like v3 or v2 maps.
any more ideas? Played around with this for long time and can't still get it to load the NA map. Keep getting that "Maps not found' error when I start the program.
NA map?
I assume thats North America.
Have you tried any others?
No. I figure it should not make any difference and I only have the USA map. I am very frustrated at this as GPS is a big function I need on my MDA.
Would manual install help in my situation?
My install was very straight forward. This is what I did on my install, perhaps someone can point out on what I did wrong
1. Just ran the TTN 5.21 and installed the TomTom and Navigator both on minSD.
2. copied my California-map folder into Storage Card\California-map\ directory
3. Modified the currentmap.dat file to say "& \Storage Card\Californai-Map\
4. Ran the damn TTN and got that maps not found error.
What am I doing wrong? Please help.
It sounds like you have done all the right things, but the only other thing I can suggest is that your TTN software has not been activated to accept all maps. There is a patch you can use which "opens" your software to use all maps.
PM me for more info

I have noticed this too (with 5.21 only) . What worked for me was to put another map (besides the not-detected one) on the device. THEN both will be detected. I believe this is an activation issue somewhere in the s/w.

I have just installed TomTom and was getting the map not found error, performed the procedure above, but it didnt work first of all, this is what i had to do to get TomTom working and find the maps.
1. Create the folder TomTom under My documents on the phone (note TomTom folder created with capital T's)
2. Create the file Currentmap.dat with the following entry
& \Storage Card\TomTom\Great_Britain-Map
and copied it to the My documents\TomTom folder i created above
3. Copy the Great_Britain-Map directory that is on the storage card\TomTom directory to the ROOT of the storage card...!! THIS is the what made it work.
You may now remove the Great_Britain-Map folder in the TomTom directory on the storage card to save space.
A combination of creating the Currentmap.dat file (even though it points to a folder i have removed!!!!) and copying the map folder to the root of the storage card worked.
Without the currentmap.dat, tomtom would just hang on me and have to perform a soft reset.
I hope this helps, thanks to this thread i managed to get TT working on my wizard, cheers baz
Funny how you can go on about a subject when the answer is alreeady given in the tread. So maybe I wasn't clear enough. I'll explain better now:
Tomtom 5.21 can read all maps provided by tomtom, as long as they are for the version 5
Patched version of tomtom can read v5 maps too, but only if you put two of them at the root of your SD card. It means two maps that are normaly reconised by tomtom 5 (europe and australia mainly). People complaining about not finding a single map are using an illegal version.
The US maps floating around on p2p are v4 maps. They are not valid for tomtom v5. Maybe the latest "whole US in one map" is compatible, but the splitted one, with one folder for each state, is a v4 map.
The legal version of tomtom v5 cannot read v4 maps. If you put one v5 and one v4 map in your SD card, the patched version will not work because it will only find one map at the root.
The only patched version able to see the v4 maps are (to my knowledge) the bakonl version for v5 and v5.10. This version will hang if you use POI in the "plus" version maps available for most european contry. You will have to choose you executable depending on your maps.
All other problems, described in the previous posts, are for the first time setup. They just help getting the program running for the first time.
SO to answer clearly to the first poster: get a patched version 5.10 by backonl, and don't use it with "plus" version maps. If you want to use them, switch to patched 5.21
and apologies for those that contacted me for the file that makes the maps recognised. I checked to see if I still had it, and I have lost it since i reloaded my PC.
Hey I still have the problem.
I have put the Benelux map on my storage card and the Florida map too.
Only the Benelux one gets detected.
this is my CurrentMap.dat that is the My Documents\TomTom folder
& \Storage Card\Benelux-Map\
& \Storage Card\Florida-Map\
I have the Bakonl 5.21 release.
Hope someone can find a solution !
Thanks you
