in the eten m600's latest rom, the user is able to switch the output of the sound from the main speakers to the the phone speakers (the one where you put your ear to when taking a call) when using skype.
is this arrangement possible with the universal? so that i could take a skype call, trasnfer the sound to the phone's speakers (instead of the front 2 speakers) and then use my universal just like a normal phone while talking on skype?
any programmers or developers can think of such a solution? it would be really cool.

I'm trying to record both uplink and downlink speech streams of my XDA II during a phone call.
I tried many different things but couldn't get working any of them:
- I first tried the waveIn/waveOut API and thought, in the first place, that I was able to record the incoming and outgoing audio streams, mixed together. But I quickly realise that what I was recording was only the sound from the mike, and that the speech of the downlink speech was going from the speaker through the air to the mike. So I was recording my own voice (from the mike) and the voice of the other part (from the mike too as the sound was going from the speaker to the mike).
- Then I had a look to the TAPI API. I was able to answer calls but it was impossible for me to access to any of the audio streams. I think it's a limitation of the device, and that the TAPI API hasn't been fully implemented on the XDA2. But I can't be sure of that.
- Now I'm trying to use RIL, which seems to be a layer below the other APIs. I believe it might be possible to access to the audio streams, but I have no idea how.
- I also think that the audio data of both streams must be stored in the memory, somewhere in the device. But where?
Any ideas or suggestions on this? Do you think I should keep investigating RIL?

there is no such a program. The only thing yor program can record is the sound from microphone. This can be tested by connecting a headset to the device and trying to record anything during call. Only ugly devices like Anextek SP230 can record both sides because microphone is wired to the speaker.
You cannot use RIL or TAPI to record calls. It is a limitation of both hardware and OS. Maybe WM2005 would support this.
Yes I don't thinck there is such a program (I've been looking for such a program for the past 2 weeks). All recording softwares you can find don't do much more than using the waveIn/waveOut API and so they record only the sound from the microphone.

Does that mean that the sound going to the speaker goes also to the microphone? Wouldn't that introduce a lot of echo in the network during phone calls?

Yes. I owned Rover S1 which is based on Anextek and checked this.

There is no echo during phone calls, but when using VoIP and similar programs the echo is terrible.

Call is processed by the GSM module that has its own CPU (some sort of ARM with DSP extensions). You may reverse engeneer its firmware, but it is very complex. On XDAs its OS is based on "Nucleus PLUS - Version 1.0.G1.1" by ATI. In Anextek it is Siemens MC45 module.

I have now tried vito sound recorder 2005 and it doesnt allow both sides of conversation to be recorded on my xda, I took a look around and it seems the old siemens sx45 had the capability with its recorder software, here is an excerpt.
The sound recorder lets you record from the built in microphone or for ultimate fun, both sides of a phone conversation, which can be played back whilst in conversation. Confuses the hell out of folks when they hear what they’ve just said.
In a sens they are not really lying because you can record both sides of conversation, if you allow the sound from the speaker to go to the microphone. If you don't use a headset and the volume of your speaker is high enough, that will be the case. The voice of the other part will go through the air before being recorded. That's why people claim that you can record both sides of conversation even though the quality of your recording is rubbish.
With vito you get perfect reproduction of the caller but zero from yourself.

I have a great pair of wired headphones that I love to use for watching movies and listening to mp3's... noise canceling, enhanced bass, extended range, the works... =)
The only problem though is that when I get an incoming call on gsm, there is no way to listen to the call from the headphones and still use the built-in mic of the universal. I'm forced to unplug the headphones and just use the jasjar's built-in speakers like a regular phone. This is especially horrible on the bus, train, etc.
Funny thing is if I use skype on the jasjar, I can hear out of my great headphones and still talk through the built-in mic... i recorded a few voice notes using the built-in mic while having the headphones plugged in the universal...
clearly, from this... the function is available?
but how do I do this using the gsm phone?
I suppose you may want os details and such... I'm using the newest official i-mate jasjar rom

I agree because when i plug my cassette adaptor into my phone in the middle of a call the other person can hear me for the first 1 or 2 seconds and then nothing. This sounds software related. Shame to have to add more hardware to the situation.

having same problem here. I think it will be fixed by January 1st, 2007 in the new OS. Stay tuned. I have two OS versions of WM. I will try it on both and let you know. Well I hardly use GSM.... actually I only use skype on GPRS. Its much cheaper. Incoming and Outgoing calls plan from Skype is really cheap ^^.

Start tivi, then run skype. All sound comes from the front speaker, not the back. Make sure to turn off tivi when you're done with skype, as ALL sounds will be rerouted to the front speaker, not just voice calls.

Not for me it doesn't it will only go through the speaker and I cannot find anyway to get it to go to my bluetooth headset. Is your headset bluetooth or is it wired?
I've been able to use my Jabra 8040 (mono earpiece, but A2DP-compliant) headset with Skype just fine . . . whenever my connection's decent enough anyway.

I was thinking if is there a program for our Windows Mobile device wich can use the microphone of a bluetooth headset and simply listen to it, making it a ambient microphone spy ...
I don't have my bluetooth headset by me to test it out, but maybe you could use it as a microphone and record it to audio notes (or similar software). Or you could hide a 2nd phone that is connected to the bluetooth headset, call it, and listen in (greater range).

With audio notes I haven't tried... but calling another phone makes it expensive... so I wouldn't use it ...

That's hilarious that you want to be all 007. Are you a private investigator? This is an interesting puzzle to solve and I like puzzles.
I would recommend getting a cheap-o BT headset because they suck at cutting out noise anyway. Of course, you'll probably have to be within arms reach of the people you are trying to listen to. Then, use audio notes to capture the audio. Lastly, I would look for some software that will allow you to play around with the different ambient noise levels. I would try Audacity first because it's free and very robust with options.

I would realy like some help for an issue that i have with my omnia 2..
ok, so basically i was making a setup in my car so i could listen to music
by connecting a 3.5 male to male cable (which i've made myself so it would be as short as i need it to be) to the AUX input in my car stereo system.
The music sounds sweet.
I also liked the fact that i could hear the person i was talking to on my car's stereo system, and obviously the music stops when you get a call so it's very nice..
now I know that the omnia 2 has 2 microphones (which is amazing!)
one for a regular conversation, and another one which is way more sensitive
for the use while you're using it as a speakerphone.
The problem is:
when i connect the 3.5 plug in the phone it lets me select:
1. Headphones
2. Headset
3. TV-out
when i select either of 1 or 2, the phone uses the regular mic and not the speaker mic.
i can hear the sound of my speakers in the car
(or maybe i will even hear it the same with headphones)
but i can't have the other side hear me as well as he will with the speaker phone.
I know it uses the regular mic because when i disconnect the 3.5 plug from the phone and put it on speaker, the other side hears me much much better.
(phone and me stay at the same place at the entire test)
my question is:
is there anyway to change (perhaps in the registry?) something
for the phone to use the speaker mic while anything is connected to it's 3.5 jack?
any help will be much much much appreciated.

Are you sure the mic doesn't work when you select "headphones"? When I use it like you do in the car, it works perfectly. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised it did, as opposed to Omnia I.
"Headset" means the original headphones with the mic on the cord, while "headphones" means regular headphones, and then it automatically uses the built-in mic.
If it doesn't work like this, take it to the service if you're still within the warranty.
