What video files does Universal support ? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

hi, i am newbe so i am sorry for my silly question in advance. i'd like to mention that i tried to serch what i am interested in before i posted this.
can anybody tell me excatly what kind of vide or movie formats or files does universal support ? and if it dosnt support many is there anyway to upgrade it to enable this device ?? does is suport divx or avi , mpeg files ? and can u convert the above to the format universal support ?
and what is the SD card universal support. what is the mac size ? 4GB ? or lesss ?
cheers,
matt willing to get MDA Pro

MDA Pro supports 4 GB SD Cards.
Maybe it will support bigger sizes, but i think no one has a 8GB test card.
WMP 10 Mobile support only Microsoft Formats.
If you like to play other formats look on this project http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about

It is also important to know that:
YES, the Universal supports 4GB SD Cards ONLY for running and storing applications or files. The camera application won't allow you to store recorded movies nor pictures taken by the camera if you are using 4GB SD cards.
2GB SD cards don't have any problem.

4gb cards don't have a problem usually, providing the free space on it is less than 2gb.

Recording MPEG-4 Video with SD Memory Card

Did anyone try to record MPEG-4 video with XDA II on your SD memory card?
I've tried Toshiba 256MB/128MB and Sandisk 128MB SD memory, and the frame skip rate is quite high. The video seems like being recorded at only 2~5 FPS. If you record the video for more than 2 mintues, you will find that the voice doesn't sync with the motion.
The maximum data transfer rate of Toshiba 256 SD memory is about 2MB/s. Thus I think this problem isn't due to the "relatively" slow transfer rate of my SD card(compared to the "fast" sd card of transfer rate up to 10MB/s).
Is there anyone who has the experience of recording MPEG-4 video on the SD card and suffers the same problem with me?
2 Questions and I will test this for you:
1. How do you record directly to the storage card?
2. How do you get sound with your movie?
Thanks,

Bump.
Can anyone answer these questions?

Hi,
To record a video directly to a storage card, in Camera mode, click the settings icon (the first from left to right icons at the buttom), then select Tools > Options... > Video. In there, at the buttom of the page, you'll see Folder and Change..., click it to choose the destination folder on Storage Card, and then click ok to save the settings.
To enable sound, above the Folder, there's a checkbox to chose "Recording with audio." Check this box to include sound in your video recording.
HTH.
Guh, I'm an idiot, only saw the options icons on the lower right.
Thanks so much for the reply, I appreciate it.
As far as the voice recording, anyone know if the system volume (device, not phone) has to be turned on? Will it work if it's on mute (or vibrate)? If not, does it make a difference if it's on the lowest volume notch vs. the highest?
I would run some tests myself, but I can't right now (XDA II isn't accessible atm).
Thanks for the reply.

And no problem here too, will find some time to test recording long video on SD.
Cheers.
I just got my 512MB Panasonic SD memory card(10MB/sec) tonight, and got it to test with the XDA II video recording function.
I found that the difference really existed when I recorded MPEG-4 video with a 2MB/s SD memory card compared to a 10MB/s SD memory card.
The video recording process is much smoother if you use the 10MB/s SD card to record the video, but once the video is recorded, there is no difference whether you are playing the video file on a 2MB/s SD card or on a 10MB/s SD card.
The conclusion is: the recording process is the key. You should get a faster card when recording a MPEG-4 video file.

re
omg I have only just realised this thanks to this thread. I have been recording vid on my xda 2 stored on my SD card, and the framerate and sound quality has been poor, but never had video on a PDA before so didn't really think too much of it.
Just completed some tests recording to the My Documents/pictures file which was the default location I think and video is superb in comparison, DOH.
In future all my vids will be recorded in phone memory, I'll just have to move them to storage card afterwards to avoid space problems.
N1, I offer no help or suugestions just confirmation of your own findings,

Does COOLCAMERA software works on the prophet

Does this nice software to improve the videocamera of JAMin work properly?
yes.
hi, i just tried it, fotofunctions are very nice, but video is just horrable !!
i have just 4fps with neo and 5s to capture (maybe the shareware restriction)
btw. the storage is on a LEXAR 512mb SD Card
video should always be stored in main memory-> 10-15fps.

When playing AVI's it stutters, convert? specific program?

Hi, I've had my O2 XDA Mini s a week and love it.
As I'm new to all this, I'm having problems in playing avi files ad they won't play in Media Player. A friend suggested I install TCPMP which plays everything on his HP IPAQ. I installed it and it does play the file but stutters.
I have just loaded the avi file onto my 2gb SD Card and playing from there. I haven't converted the file smaller or anything. Do I need to do this? If so, what prog, resultion, size looking for etc. Any advice, help would be appreciated.
Also, I saw a store selling 4gb mini sd cards, do these work on this handset?
Thanks
m
Unfortunately the Wizard doesn't have a terribly powerful processor, running at 195 Mhz by default. I have the stuttering problem as well with larger files - there simply isn't enough grunt to process the stream fast enough.
You could try using Windows Movie Maker, which has targets specifically for Pocket PCs and/or a specific file size. Add your movie into a collection (make sure you turn off scene selection), drag it onto the story board, then save the movie. I can convert a 350MB 'HD' xvid in about 20 mins.

HELP! i wnt 2 watch movies on Hermes ... howto do?

Hi All
iwant 2 watch movies on hermes, i already hav tcpmp installed, but cannot transfer movie files to memory card, it only works when i convert files 2 3gp format with convertor, but i get totally crappy quality.
Any advice out there?
Cliffy101 (newb)
I've always had issues with TCPMP. I just convert movies to MP4 with my laptop, stick 'em on my memory card, and watch 'em with WMP.
Just buy a memory card reader to transfer files to your card. They are dirt cheap on eBay and about 15$ in stores. The transfer rate via activesync is horrible, so you are better with it for file transfers, may it be pictures, videos or music.
Tnx
tnx, i'll try the mp4 & card reader options ...
I have another question though, the library of WMP cannot read media on the card, is this normal on hermes?
i dont have a hermes but when i choose update lib in options
and choose sdcard un the playlist i get all my music from the sdcard
that the wmp can play that is it dont support many formats

Windows media has limited format support and sometimes videos are slow too. I sugger TCPMP when possible. Coreplayer, its shareware version, is an excellent player and features a library just like in windows media player, but even better!
N1c0_ds, reverse that, core player is commercial and tcpmp is shareware...
Really like core player though, has many format support...
If you don't mind paying for something, would recommend it.
Cheers.....
Cool!!! ... tnx all 4 ur advice, I cn't stop watchin movies now, i'm considering Core playr...
Vive la XDA!!!!

[Q] What format to use for microsd card

I am purchasing a 32gb microsd card to use with TF. However, I have videos files that are larger than 4 GB (Fat32 limitation). I am wondering if there is another format supported by TF that will allow larger files. Thanks.
i'd give ext3 a try... you'll have to install Ext2Read on your windows box to access the memory card though.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2read/
Are you sure those video files larger than 4gb will even play in Honeycomb without skipping? Sounds like a high profile encoded video.

Yes. I can already play them through streaming.

Thanks. I presume this is supported by TF and I will be able to copy/delete to the card through the USB cable?
Yes you can.
Would you recommend using ext3 over NTFS and if so why?
I haven't recieved my transformer yet so not sure if it will nativly read NTFS but I know the rooted devices can.
