Hi everyone, I have owned an XDA II for some time and have never got round to registering on this great site. On checking some of the posts on here I decided that enough was enough and it was time to get a new phone. On discovering the price of the MDA Compact via the Scancom website I ordered one. Arrived the next day and here we are!
The main reason why I choose this phone was the size. The XDA was simply too big and referred to as 'a brick' by most!
Being a newbie and reading through some posts, it seems that you can do rather a lot to these small devices! It anyone has a link to an overview of terms, (i.e Roms, overcooking, etc) that would be mostly appreciated.
Will be keeping my eyes peeled to this forum as the camera really does suck! If anyone has any way of upgrading this please let me know. It really is nowhere as crisp as the picture on the XDA II.
Hi,
my XDA Exec has got a dead screen - took the phone apart and found that the LCD coaxial has snaped.
Now i'm looking for XDA Exec spares - coaxial cable.
Where can I get such spare parts? Should I ask it from the HTC?
Thanks!
Told you this via eBay but you obviously didn't believe me eh?...
"You won't get one of those as a spare part other than from a broken handset unless you send your device directly to an authorised service centre for repair.
If you have opened your hinge too far and trapped the wires cutting them, it is possible to work out how to reconnect the broken wires in the hinge as I have previously done it myself."
Richard
Thanks for helping out!
The cable is fully snaped (twisted), because the screen has been rotated too much - all the wires are cut!
Is it really posible to connect all those tiny wires? How?
thanks again!

I wrote an answer detailing step by step how to do it with wiring diagram then realised it was you who outbid me for it on ebay so you're on your own. Sorry. Why should I help my competition?
Good Luck!
Richard
come on - this is ridiculous - I'm no competitor to you, I even don't make money with this.
I would never refuse to share my experience with people here, because we all have got something to share and we all sometimes need an advise!!
I'm not even form Uk... please give some advise if you can!
Thanks!

But you're buying MANY SPV / XDA faulty items from the UK site - if you're not making money then you're not very good at this eh?
You outbid me = you ARE my competitor.
You are buying faulty items and then asking for help to fix them to resell. No-one person could use all the devices you have bought recently, and you have to beg for help with basic repairs or fault finding for stuff that has not only been covered many times on this and other internet sites, but is also in some cases obvious.
I'll gladly help users with the odd problem or amateurs having a go at repairing friends / collegues devices etc etc but someone wanting my help with faulty devices they have bought has no chance.
I would rather help people who have problems with their existing devices. I do share my experiences, I have written many guides and how to's as well as answering questions, but when the question is from someone who is using my knowledge to profit in direct competition to me, hell yeah I'll keep it to myself.
You are not being honest. You say 'my XDA exec' when you received it in the post faulty 2 or 3 days ago at most.
My knowledge is from experience, I have experimented on many devices over the years breaking some of them in the process.
As for 'we all need advise' - feel free to check my posts here and on the other forums - I've NEVER asked for advice other than what colour phone to buy and even then I was joking....
What knowledge have you shared then? Today I wrote a stripdown manual for the new HTC StrTrk - it's on the internet
You are not the first with this problem, I have mentioned it several times, and if you would actually do a search rather than thinking you are so special and your issue so unique that your question demands a thread of it's own, you my find more info....
Richard
Good
Why such a hate!!!?
I'm not a liar - I have bought few phones and I'm looking only for cheap options such as buying faulty and trying to fix them - I now have sold all my phones - XV6600 can't be used in Europe, sold the old XDA 2i, bought a C500 as a present for my brother, still using the qtek 8020 and now just got the Exec...
you see - I'm not rich nor the people in my country - i can't afford to buy expensive phones in shops.
Ofcourse I'm a total beginer in this field and most of the time don't know what I'm doing, but still I have managed to find few solutions that nobody else had mentioned before - for example - you told me to get a new touchscreen for my XDA 2i due to screen align problem - but I found the old one to be good - i just made few experiments and I posted all the process in the forum...
And don't tell me you haven't asked for advice - look at your earlier posts year ago on modaco!!!
I don't know why are you so angry and full with hate - calling me competitor...
I was just considering to buy new housings for myself, for my brother and maybe in the future i would have bought some more parts from you if something would go wrong with my phones... but now - with such an attitude from you... I'm starting to reconsider it!!
Thanks for all the advices!!

Because you outbid me and have no idea how to repair the items you won so they are wasted on you.

They were never of the begging kind such as your questions like 'how do I do this' or 'can anyone please tell me' , they are always ' I have done this, here are pictures, how can I do it better?'
I explained my question thouroughly and then illustrated any answer I then came up with.

Hi neggie, welcome to the board.
Yes, you're correct, we revel in our scatological prowess.
To partake of our love of all things fecal, please read this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4534
as an intro to the board.
Very little can be done to improve the camera quality as determined by the hardware.
However, please try looking through the wiki, top left corner of your screen, down one, turn left at the McDonald's. Many hints and tips for your device, read this before anything else, other then the above and this tautology.
I advise use of the program Tweaks2k, although most things this commercial app will do can be done for free if you read the wiki and the forum.

Ahh yes, the golden rule, and the WISE one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Like vijay said, it depends on your hardware, there is a big thread about a few cabs the improve the quality of the camera just do a search.
Another member hinted about take off the plastic cover also. Just search, limit results to the Wizard section it will help

This is my second attempt at this thread, as the last one was irretrievably derailed by people who were too lazy to start their own thread to discuss what they wanted to discuss and decided it would be easier to hijack mine instead.
So... if you know of a place (such as a shop) where the HD2 is available for demonstrations, accessible to members of the general public, please post here.

You have to admit that the original title was hopefully misleading, and the derailed topic was also a much more interesting one for most people.
The new (original) one is also a bit strange - which country are you interested in? Would you care if the place were in Moscow? Would I care if it were where you live? Maybe you'd want to make the thread title a bit more specific to avoid reading stuff you don't really need?
Cheers!

The content of the initial post made the intent very clear. I wouldn't have minded a certain amount of digression in the direction of testers' experiences, but it's annoying to have the thread's entire function subverted in favour of that.
So quit trying to hijack this one as well, please.

Personally I'm interested in places in London, England; but I imagine other people reading this thread will be interested in demos in other places, and I see no reason why they shouldn't be catered for too; that was certainly my original intention.
Yes, please remember that XDA is a global resource.
Please post the city and country in any replies.
I suggest a format something like:
Australia, Sydney, Parramatta, <Shop Name & address if relevent>
Right, come on everybody, I want to get a demo of an HD2 and find out whether or not I can type on its keyboard! I've never been able to type with any accuracy on a touch-screen phone keyboard so far, but there's got to be a first time!
So, where in London can I get a working demo?
I Never Knew I Needed One - Tottenham Court Road - Open 'til 9pm tonight.
I've bought from them many times in the past...
http://www.inkino.co.uk/zen/
I pre-ordered mine from there (Inkino) and they called me this afternoon to say the stock should arrive about now (@6.30ish)
When I ordered it the price was £499.95. I have just had another look on their site and the price has changed to £534.95....
Well, I was in Inkino (which is actually on Great Russell Street, not Tottenham Court Road) at around 6.30pm but their delivery guy was stuck in traffic and I had to head home before he got there. Hmph.
I'll maybe head back in a couple of days.
I had a quick play with the dummy version; provisional conclusion is that it's much too thin - makes it impossible to hold it comfortably, especially one-handed, and the narrow bezel makes things worse - you can't grip it without your fingers touching the edges of the screen. Assuming the dummy was an authentic weight (which the guy in the shop said it was) it feels noticeably lighter than my TP2, especially in the pocket - it's not just less weight, but it's so much larger that the weight is spread over a much wider area.
Went back to Inkino today (the Great Russell Street branch). They do now have an HD2 available for demonstrations. On the whole I found it impressive - fast, and the screen is very nice. The thing I was mostly interested in was whether or not I could type accurately on the touch-screen keyboard. I found I couldn't - pressing the backspace key, for example, resulted in a flurry of key-presses being detected not only of the backspace key but of all the keys around it in all directions. I mentioned this to the guy in the shop (who, incidentally, was very helpful and not at all pushy - I recommend that place!) and he said the reason why they'd put one aside for demos is that they'd been unable to align the screen on it properly, and that consequently other HD2's probably wouldn't suffer from the same problem; but that largely invalidated the demo from my perspective.
Hey forum folks, I'm selling my HD2
]
Sadly, I dropped my HD2 and the screen went *smash!* although, it all still worked. Anyway, this blighted me so I tried to replace the screen with a brand new digitizer/screen replacement combo but I have failed. Despite very carefully taking it all apart and putting it all back together (as per the HTC guides on youtube) I've failed to do a good enough job and the screen now believes I am pressing it when I am not. Anyway, I believe this can be fixed but I don't have the know how or the funds to do it as I am going travelling in a fortnight.
I have therefore taken the v.diff decision to flog my phone so that someone can fix it or use it for spares. As far as I can tell everything is working except for the volume buttons. I think the problem with the volume buttons is that the orange sticker thing might have fallen off and I don't know where to get these replaced?
Anyway, the screen is BRAND NEW; as is the digitizer. The GPS module, battery and camera all work fine so it's an ace little phone that could be easily stripped for spares. I'm giving you guys the chance to get in on the bidding and if you've got any questions I'll answer them right here! So get bidding - oh and the auction opens at 0.99p!!!
I should also add that I don't think this contravenes the forum rules but if it does I beg and plead and grovel in a very humble manner - I only mention it because I know how important these rules are and I know how upset the moderators get with idiots and I am scared I may have stumbled into that category with this posting.
I think you're ok, just post this in the Marketplace next time, maybe a mod can move it for you.
Hi Guys and Gals,
Sorry to bother you all, but just wanted to say that I have been forced to relist my old HD2 after the last auction was won by a massive timewaster who didn't pay up and who wouldn't respond to questions as to the delay.
Anyway, I've relisted the device on e-bay, and you can find it at e-bay.co.uk and the item is ******. I hope that this time someone who actually wants it might win!
Cheers
We have a Marketplace for selling things. And we don't alllow ebay links, as per the forum RULES.
