a solution for battery indicator on system tray - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

For all of you complaining about the battery bar on system tray, there is a program that covers up the bar,its called wisebar advanced and wisebar advance desktop, they are deveolped by Lakeridge software. check it out and see if it right for you

I just removed the whole tray completely, which got rid of some pretty-much wasted display space.
Just remove the Init_Tray.lnk file from your Windows\StartUp folder.

the issue with battery bar is only for new qtek or imate roms

Can it replace it with the Time like it was before?

Any way to remove the battery icon from the today screen?

I've found that the battery icon in the tray on the today screen is pretty much useless... it doesn't even show the battery as being partially discharged until it gets down to about halfway. Instead I've installed the freeware battery monitor batti (http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1382) which works much better and can be seen in any program.
Is there any way to stop the default battery icon from coming up every time?
Thanks,
Brett
I deleted a few of the O2 active stuff from the windows/startup menu. Can't remember which file now, but one of them got rid of the battery icon (among other things).
It's batinfo in Windows/startup
Hmm, what else can we safely delete there then and what do they each do?
Also any way to lose the O2 logo from the title bar as well?
I think the O2 phones have their own battery meter... I haven't seen it, but from what you guys are talking about something is definitely different. My battery meter was a little icon on the tray next to the wireless manager icon. I also didn't have batinfo or any other programs (other than a few third party programs that I installed) in my startup folder.
However, I was able to remove the icon thanks to O2. I downloaded the O2 extended ROM from here...
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Extended ROMs/O2_XDA_Exec_Extended_ROM.zip
And in that rom there is a file called:
Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB
I copied that to my Jasjar, installed it, soft reset, and low and behold the battery icon is now gone I have no idea what it did, nor do I know if I can get it back without a hard reset, but I didn't like it anyway, so I'm not upset about it

[ask/help me please..] battery status on taskbar

Help me pleasee,..
do anyone know how to show/make battery status icon appear on taskbar in O2 mini/ imate jam? Do I have to use some specified software to do that?
Try this freeware tool
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=17943&associateid=9
Install the cab file:
battery_OU_081304.sa.CAB
from the Dopod818_CHS_2.12.140 extended ROM available for download on the FTP.
This will install the battery icon / shorcut on the Taskbar and a shortcut to memory in the Service Tray. Comes standard with the Dopod 818.
The ftp link doesn't work

man, give us this .cab pls, where can we find it (link needed)?
And, if possible, how it looks like? Is there any screenshots???
Guys...I'm refering to the XDA Developers FTP... If you're logged in you should be able to get into the downloads...
ftp://xda:[email protected]
Sorry...haven't figured out how to do a screen shot...but the CAB puts a battery icon with four bars that go down as the battery gets depleted on the top right hand corner where the minimize button is. Click on this and it takes you to the Battery screen. It also places the same memory icon you get in Settings beside the bluetooth icon in the sys tray. Click on this and it'll bring you to the memory screen.
hmm, this is ok with link, thanks! But I can't find that .cab!!!
sorry, but wich folder shall I check???
By the way, if it creates an icon in top right corner, how can I tap the "X" or "OK" button???
The Battery icon is visible only when you're in the today screen...just like the system tray. When you have a program open, the minimize button will display instead.
look in the folder :
/Magician/Extended_Roms/Dopod818_CHS_1.12.140/
you'll find :
battery_OU_081304.sa.CAB
i don't think its a good idea to put it on the taskbar. Too many things go on up there as it is. If you could be satisfied with just having it on the today screen have a look at my today item bellow.(end shameless self promotion  )

Remove System Tray From Today Screen

Hi,
Does anybody know how I can get rid of the system tray from my XDA Exec's Today Screen?
I have read in other posts about removing the link to it from the "/windows/startup" folder, but there is no such link on my device.
Is there a way of doing it through modifying a registry key or something?
Any help greatly appreciated,
Thankyou,
Paul.
To remove the system tray you need to remove the items in it. If you remove them all the tray will dissapear. The registry keys you need to change are detailed in the wiki.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
Many thanks for the speedy reply DanT, that is exactly what I needed.
Now, does anybody know how to stop Pocket Informant putting an icon in the system tray (and thereby making the system tray visible again) when it is running?
Cheers, Paul.
This is EXACTLY what I am trying to find out about the Pocket Informant Icon. I hate the taskbar. Anyone? Thanks
The system tray will show running services that elect to display an icon. Pocket Informant registers as a service, rather than a program. The same is true for applications like TomTom or iGO.
The only thing you can do is not run Pocket nformant.
So PI Doesn't let you disable the icon? This really sucks...
Of course it does.
Settings:
Either Full list
- or -
Interface (second icon) - Advanced
Enable System Tray Icon
I'm using 2005, Rev 5, Build 568.
GREAT Find. It works and the PI Tray icon is no longer there! Thanks a bunch!!
I remember Vijay created an app that actually hides the TOP and BOTTOM taskbar for our Universal, so we don't have to remove any of the icons on the BOTTOM taskbar to make it disappear, thus making our screens bigger. Here is a link to that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...postorder=asc&highlight=alpha+togle&start=200
I tried downloading it from this post, but it seemed he took it off. Anyway I was wondering if anyone still have it?
cktlcmd: apologies, I never removed the link, but moved from a Windows server to a linux server some time back, and now all urls are case sensitve. Generally, if you find any broken links from me, just convert to lower case and it should be fine.
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha0.1.5.exe
VJToggleToday II (for WM5) doesn't hide the tray yet. I've not had time to work on it for a while (new baby, move house, go to Modaco last weekend, find new job etc), but hopefully I'll be able to make some progress on it again, finally.

Thanks Vijay. So this file will not work on the Exec then?
VJToggleToday II (alpha) is for WM5 only. Specifically made for my universal (exec), but works on all WM5.
VJToggleToday I is WM2003 only.
The final version of VJToggleToday II will be cross compatible.

TyTn Annoyance!!!

I am trying to remove the bottom bar that is normally removed by deleting wifiinit.lnk and init_tray.lnk from startup...problem is they arent in startup. And when looking at the remove programs list there are no programs. Any suggestions?
Tell us what you have in windows\startup and post copies of the link files if possible, then some bright spark in the forum may be able to work it out for you

Looks like all the usual links have gone now except poutlook - which many say can be deleted anyhow. They must be using another initiation method - have you checked \windows to see if you have init_tray.exe if you have try a trick i use with clear storage. Make a text file with any text in does not matter - save as init_tray.txt then rename to init_tray.exe and paste it into windows using total commander. Result init_tray.exe will not work. Works with clearstorage.exe and I get no error message. If you do get an error message replace with an exe that does nothing - I hope you get my drift
EDIT Possibly you could replace it with dcinobar.exe or inclose mobile.exe i.e. rename the exe's and then remove the startup link to the app as this app will be started instead of init_tray.exe
Actually I thought of something similar to that already, but guess what... no init_tray.lnk or .exe and no wifiinit.lnk or .exe anywhere on the device according to resco explorer search. Thank you for the great idea though. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas?
Maybe something to do with it?

TyTN now uses services
The bottom tray icons can be removed by making the following registry changes...
1. To remove the Battery Icon:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Power]
"ShowIcon"=dword:00000000
2. To remove the Wireless Manager Icon:
Delete the registry key...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\WirelessMgr]
3. Soft Reset
Tray Icons should now be gone.
You are awesome! Do you have a TyTn or is that for other phones also?
Just received my TyTN today.
The first thing I did was figure out how to get rid of those tray icons!
Actually, if you look at the following post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41968) you will find many hacks that are not restricted to the Universal but work on all WM5 machines, inluding the TyTN. I am using a few of the myself on my TyTN
i'm about 200 to $250 short from getting one feel free to donate! I go to This ebay posting every day and just DROOOL over it... again, donations welcome..
better yet, i got a deal! For the amount of that device with shipping which is $779 + $29.99 which comes out to $829.99, (lets just make it $830 flat) I'll throw in my working wizard which has 2 scruffs on the front(comes complete with box, i-mate warranty, headset, case.. basicly everything in the box except the extra stylus), a wizard with a damaged screen, an xbox 360 premium. (just the xbox360 itself, no power supply, no hard drive, no controller (i'll give u a couple demo discs)) AND.... a like new Sony PSP with like 3 or 4 games (i maybe played the thing 10 times since i bought it, its been nesting in its oem case for god knows how long.)
PM me if you'll take me up on that offer

I don't think that just removing the icons removes that space that the bar takes up, does it?

Looking at the "HIDEWIRELESSMGRICON.cab" in that link, it shows that you can disable the Wireless Manager Icon by simply changing a single registry entry instead of deleting the whole WirelessMgr key.

Intellisync 7.0 and Tytn
Hi,
Since I've installed this new version of this software I've been using for a long time now each time I soft reset my device I got stuck on the windows mobile blue background. I can get pass it!!!
Now the good news is via activsync I can still connect to my device and explore it. I can also remove the software (intellisync) and this will let me regain access to my device.
The problem is I can't live without Intellisync so I end up reinstalling it evrytime.
The problem is link (I guess) to the security screen which replaces the default winm 5 one.
Questions :
1 where can I find a step-by-step description of the boot process ?
2 What is the name of the security app object ?
3 Who could help ???
Many Thanks
REMOVE bottom tray on 8525 (mobile 5)
I seen lots of articles about how to remove or turn off bottom tray, but none work. I have similar problem as this user: No intTRay of anykind is found, my startup folder contents are similar to his. I've removed the individual icons like battery, etc, but I need to get rid of the animated today icon, the the Animated Today program puts on the tray, so the tray will disappear...
any ideas?
I may be wrong but the last time I checked, the 8525(TyTN) is not a Wizard.

Yep, you are correct. The Tytn is the big brother to the Wizard, which is known as the 8125, not the 8525.

Dang, it's busted for me.
I get a DirectoryNotFoundException when I launch it and I can't seem to find the reason for it.
Worked nicely for me, thanks!
It also works nicely for me. However, I am looking for a way to disable the System Tray and so far, nothing. Have tried most of the reg hacks mentioned here and run into a brick wall as my Dell Axim x51v doesn´t have those reg entries (?!?!?!)
All I want to do is remove the WiFi & BT icons so that the system tray will close. Any ideas folks?
That is because your device uses different drivers for it. However it should not be too hard to find the correct registry entries for your device. Try playing with entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\ dir.
Thanks Wexx. Even with the extended ROM visible I only get as far as "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\" before I lose my way. What really *isses me off is that I HAD managed it a while back but cant for the life of me remember how!!!!
Anyway, thanks!
