OK, im a O2 XDA newbie and just got an o2 exec.
I intend to use it with tom tom 5 eventually but i mainly want to use it to connect to 3g internet and making phone calls of course!
I have a couple of questions.
1) By removing the o2 active/o2 software what is the advantage? I understand it makes it run a little quicker but by how much? Will it make connecting to o2 3G / GPRS more complex as I like the simplicity at the moment.
2) Can i rempove the o2 stuff wiothout flashing as I already have a lot of emails/data that i dont want to lose on my device
3) If I do have to flash, what will I miss from the o2 software?
4) How can I change ringtones to my own MP3s etc and is it possible to assign different ring tones to different callers or groups of callers.
5) Is there any better wifi software. At the moment I find it a little tricky to swap from one wifi network to the other without turning wifi on and off and going through a lot of menus.
6) Do I need to uninstall 02 stuff to get Tom Tom 5 to work.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
Roger
Anyone able to help on any of my questions? Please!
Roger
Hi,
I saw your post and decided to sign upto this forum.
i also have an XDA Exec and getting rid of the o2 menu bar doesnt realy do much at all, for starters the o2 menu bar is annoying and messy.
I have managed to unlock my fone but have only tested it with an Vodafone sim so far, leave your email and i can email you the file and instructions.
to add your own mp3 ringtones just put your mp3's on your memory card but not in a folder and to add an mp3 message tone copy the mp3 to the windows folder.
anyother questions feel free to ask.
Removing the O2 active software greatly improved the speed of my Exec. I didnt use it so I dont miss it at all, the unit is still very easy to use without it.
To remove the O2 software, you dont need to flash, jut goto start-> programs-> Install Type, and select basic, voila!
As for TomTom, I believe you need the 5.1 update - I havent tried installing TomTom yet, but it is in my todo list ;-)
Allan
If you select o2 active basic set up, it is not uninstalling it. Search the forums for the corp code, that kills it off I believe, that is what i am using and i prviously had basic on, and its now even faster!
Also - you will need to remove a file from the windows startup folder to do with o2 software, forgotten what is is killed, just hunt about..
If you uninstall the O2 software and you only use O2 e-mail, will this mean you can no longer access it using the xda? This may sound like an incredibly stupid question to those of you who are experts, but please bear with me, this phone is a very new thing for me, and I'm not keen on tinkering with the setup if I don't know what the possible outcome may be. I haven't been able to get my xda to sync to Outlook on my PC either, but I don't use Outlook for my e-mail, so at the moment that's not a major disaster.

I have been going over this forum (have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30330&highlight=
) and others for quite sometime reg any word on unlocking the xda Exec, with no real result. It is essential for me as I spend much of my time overseas.
So, I would be gratefull if u could send me the data, info and instructions on unlocking the handset.
Oh and i have some foreign SIMs here in London - so I can verify with them, whether the unlocking process can work.
Thanks
My XDA from O2 came unlocked (already tried with a "3" sim) I noticed a huge speed increase by getting rid of the O2 menu bar, I did it by removing (or you could rename) \windows\startup\active.lnk and rebooting, this plus overclocking to 624 MHZ makes it run like a dream. It is so fast E.G it can fully switch from Portrait to landscape in less than 2secs. and it works every time
hard reset it and choose the corporate mode, miles quicker and so much cleaner than the o2 garbage............The codenwhen prompted for corporate mode is 0506
if it aint active syncing, have you got the latest 4.1 update? if so, check your firewall, or come off line and disable your firewall see if that helps, if not, go to microsoft and they have a page to guide you through forewall settings.
hope that helps.
Hi, I'm a Newbie but learning fast,
I have just got the Xda exec, and was really disappointed with the Personal Modes performance so I did the hard reset and used the 0506 code to install corp mode without the o2 gear and now it runs as fast as any Pda i've seen if not faster, the screen refresh rates were much better. but hey! whats a few nano secs between models eh! I think just using the Install Type option doesn't do it properly, so I'd go for a hard reset.
Anyway after hard resetting and installing the corp install, I couldn't really find much that the O2 software actually did! I didn't miss anything. I think the O2 software is one of those type of programs that free memory but actually take up as much as it reclaims, making it useless.
You can run TomTom5 with the O2 software running but to connect to most Bluetooth GPS devices You'll find it advantagous to use the 5.1 update cab files instead of using the TomTom5 cab files. The 5.1 cab update files are actually full install files for the application only, you still need the maps, voices and the essential speed camera poi. I now have the latest TomTom and up and running. excellent program and joanna lumley's voice; well, sat nav heaven.
As for WIFI I could only find this: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=4437 I also found an interesting little program called Hitchiker.
MP3: I've found it better to convert any audio file to WMA, not mp3. wma is better compression and its native to windows. I convert all my music to wma on the computer; I think its clearer and it takes up less space. If you look in the Windows\Rings folder on your xda exec you'll find it has a wma file not an mp3. for ringtones I use the sample files used for ejay especially the sphere sounds.
I was looking around for awhile and didn't see anything major about this. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions as to software that lets you explore maps without a data plan or gps.
I would think that the amount of storage that would be needed is large, so I was thinking about getting a separate microSD card just to store the maps.
Any ideas, suggestions, or previous experience would be appreciated guys! Thanks!
smart2go. The maps have to be downloaded initially using either your Hermes or your PDA, but then they remain cached and ready to use.

Thanks for the quick reply and the site! Looks great!
I was looking for something like this too thanks
Pocket Streets
I still think MS Pocket Streets is a great piece of software.
The stopped shipping it with S&T a few years back, but it's around.
GPS support, Points of interest. Address lookup.
NO Data connection required.
There are a bunch of free maps available, or you can buy Streets and Trips and make your own as needed.
Google search and see what you can come up with.
I can't get smart2go to do any kind of address lookup or routing, and I am using just the downloaded maps with no data connection. Can anybody tell me what I might be doing wrong?
Hi all - great forum. Hoping to be around for good while soaking it all up.
I'm a new owner of an SPVM5000. Loving it with Opera and running it on WiFi with Terminal Services.
Proper happy with it - but, I want to get TomTom working on it.
I've downloaded all manner of pirate copies/maps etc, simply because I don't know if it works and wanted to try it first - and more specifically, know which version to buy..
I mean, once I know what works, I'll go and buy the thing from somewhere but, as yet, I can't get it working. Am I missing something glaringly obvious? I keep getting a "No Maps Found" error.
Anyway, Google tells me this is doable and I'm not looking for piracy tips, just a nod as to what version will work and perhaps the cheapest place to get it from if there's anywhere else than TomTom's naff site.
Ideally, I'd love to chuck some credit card details somewhere and get a legit download for it that I can put onto the SD card and away we go, but I think I might be pushing it - it's all boxed goods I think?
Any help for one of your older members, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers!
Hello there,
I have Navigator version 6 running very successfully on my SPVM5000.
A couple of things to check.
1. Is your memory card inserted? tomtom needs this, as the maps will be stored on it.
2. The maps are stored in a folder on the root level of the storage card.
The name of the folder depends on what geographical version you have.
Being in the UK my folder is Western_Europe. Inside the folder you are looking for 3 files. cline.dat, cname.dat and cnode.dat. They are the map files. If they are not there you have been given no maps!!
Hope this helps.
Hi - thanks for the reply.
I've followed the guide on here to change the registry for the GPS options and now if you say TT6 works, I can go with that. I had read TT5 is quicker so that's an option too I guess.
Yeah, the maps have the filenames you mention there and they were on the root of the storage card in a folder named Great-Britain-Map
Cheers.
mail me with details, i have the instructions for spv m5000 installation of tomtom
Thanks - I'm up and running now.
Do you still need a GPS BT Reciever with the Universal? Or does it have built in GPS?
I am new to PDA's and all this malarky.,.,
GPS receiver needed mate.
I have recently installed dcd 2.10 ROM 6.1wm. Since GPS is active now I wanted to try TomTom to see how it works with Mogul. I followed direction and ended up on error where TT say '' No Maps Found ''. I have extensively search this topic across the web, and there are tons of solution recommended to fix this issue. I have tried all of them including uninstalling opera and to move files all over the folders but no luck so far.
However most recommended and most reported working fix is to disable BT explorer. and pretty much everyone recommended to uncheck box in FTP tab from bluetooth setting. but mogul user's problem is... there is no FTP tab.
So here is what I am asking:
1: has anyone sucessfully got TomTom Navigator 6 working on Mogul / Titan with Sprint / DCD windowmobile 6.1 wm6.1 ROM. If so would would care to share your how tos.
2: Does anyone know how to disable BT explorer in Mogul where there is no FTP tab. Perhaps registry setting. Some user has posted working registry setting to disable it but it is for Dell Axim with wm5 and does not apply to Titan (setting does not exist in mogul).
Let me know if you need more info
Looks like you have acquired an illegal copy of TomTom 6.
Xda-developers do not endorse these kinds of illegal activities.
Nonetheless, plz check your pm
I use tomtom6 on my mogul. It works perfectly. The error you are getting is because you probably downloaded the software WITHOUT the maps. The maps for North America alone are just over 1gb. Try actually buying the software and it will work just fine.
I think its hilarious that you went around disabling bluetooth and uninstalling Opera, in order to get your TomTom program to find maps, LOL. As said previously, try buying the software. And if you are going to pirate it, don't trouble others with your problems if you can't figure out how to get it working, even if you are going to bring a bit of levity with your HILARIOUS failed solutions to the forum.
This from peeps who unlock their phones and put cooked roms on it. Now thats funny I don't care who you are...

the reason this is happening to you is because there is a .dat file that tomtom looks for when starting up to point to the map location...it has NOTHING to do with whether youve pirated it or not. this file is/must be located at My Documents/TomTom/CurrentMap.dat. all you need in that file is the directory path to your map. in my case its /Storage Card/USA....(etc, etc) also, the directory slashes are the other way, but im typing this on my mogul and im too lazy to fat-finger the on screen keyboard
also, and this one might be the biggie...your map folder MUST be in the root of your storage card, not nestled within another folder, or a tomtom folder which is what I initially did.

Actually there is no difference. The phones were locked by the providers for a reason. You are cracking their security encryption to gain access to features that were unavailable. With hacked software you are cracking security encryption to gain features that were not available before also. The price you paid for the phone really deosn't matter. With this theory the people that buy their DSS satelite boxes and hack Dishnetork ird's to receive a priated signal are ok because they bought the ird. You and I both know this to be untrue. With all that said I don't believe that you should use hacked software either, I just think that some take a high and mighty stance when a simple "We don't condone or discuss warez here" would be all that is needed. I guess your threshold for crossing the line is the only thing in question here, and we all know why most peeps come to these sights.

I for one use this site as an educational tool. So do many other forum members. If you think that we are all "peepers", what are you doing here?
I know for a fact that the programmers from HTC, Moto, LG, etc as well as the major carriers are members of this site directly or by proxy - how do you think they find out where their weaknesses are? How do you think they make their products better? Warez is not my thing but who are you to say????
So please, get off your pedestal and "Peep" your horn somewhere else, maybe at www.Disneyland.com

Hello,
Still not work, "No Maps found!"
I created a file called CurrentMap.dat that contains my path directory \SDMMC\Calimap and put it in the My Documents\TomTom\ folder. I also had the Calimap folder at the MicroSD card root, which as SDMMC. I don't know what I did wrong.
Can you check your script file CurrentMap.dat for the correct path? Thanks in advance.
ok first off do you actually have maps loaded on your SD card? all i had to do it put the maps on the SD card and TomTom found them right away. (on mine the storage card has a folder called north_america675, in that folder is all the map data)
if you did happen to pirate the software well you should buy it, but if you are content stealing then what you probably did was just download TomTom -- the maps are sperate, about a 1.5GB download, which you would need to put on your card... again if you pirating and you did put the maps on there, i would then guess that you didn't put the patched EXE on your device which allows you to use maps without activation.

again i think you are wrong... we aren't gaining access to services that we would normally have to pay for... cracking a dish reciever means you are stealing a service that you would normally pay for. for me at least putting new roms on here is to get GPS, and play around with the phone a bit. I'm not getting any service that i wouldn't normally get, or isn't built into the phone. so i see a big differance. but i digress, because really it doesn't matter either way since we won't change each other's minds.

so, your storage card is actually called SDMMC in file explorer?
Also, I think it might be necessary to have the map folder named exactly the same as the map's specific name. I doubt that 'Callimap' is the name of the map, but it might be. I'm not totally sure on this one though, I just know that I was fumbling for a bit to get it out to the root folder. I remember renaming the folder to EXACTLY what the map name was, just to be sure. This could have been the golden ticket and I wasn't even aware at the time. Try that too and see if it helps.

I tried it and still did not work. It must be the activiation code for the map. Even though we put the map at the right location, TomTom would still not load if not correctly activated.
Last rant and I will let this go as I usually just lurk and am content to read and learn (note my post count).
My original point was that instead of popping off about buying the software and not stealing it, one could as alot do just post nothing or a simple we don't condone warez here. If as some do, you put a rom that was not manufactured for your phone (ie an alltel rom on the sprint mogul) because you like the features better, I am sure that that is a form of stealing as the rom was built for alltel phones not sprint carrier phones. By unlocking the phone you have basically cracked it. This debate is the same as the one about taking a pen from work. It is still stealing just not the same as takng $1000.00 out of the safe (installing a $150.00 cracked software). But it is stealing all the same, it is just the degree to which we allow ourselves to think it is ok.
As the post above states the carriers come here to find weakness and to make thier products better. This statement implies that the carriers would want to stop these types of activites or it would not be called a weakness.
I have learned massive amounts of knowledge from this and other sites and also like to tweak my phone ( I use freeware or purchase the programs ) and will contiue to read as I like learning the ins and outs of electronics. I just think that sometimes people are quick to see the speck of sawdust in anothers eye and completely miss the 2X4 hanging out of their own.
end rant.....
the only other thing i can think of is try to use TomTom Home to transfer the maps. it's free and can be found here:

The only way you are breaking any rules is if you break your warranty and try to return the phone. I bought this phone and it is mine. If it doesn't work, I now am responsible. I cannot be arrested for modding my phone, but I am voiding my warranty.
P.S. I am not breaking the law by modding my viewsat either, its only when I connect to the 1200 channels do I bend it a little.

I like your mode of thinking of "bending it a little"
on my install the map folder needs to be in the root of the SD card, and the name of the map folder is:
USA and Canada 675_1409
Don't know if this helps or not but worth a try
Hi Everyone,
I have used the search function and haven't come across this yet.
When i install my tom tom software, it installs fine. Yet it installs onto the phone not the 4GB Storage.
Now this came up somewhere else and they said to fill it up and it will ask you to install it on another storage device.
Now this didn't come up I have also tried the other methods of trying to get it so the installation installs onto the phone and copy the files to internal storage and change the location of the icon. (Which I couldn't do). - just wouldn't let me im not retarded
Now my question is this.
I Have my Australia Maps: Australia.815.2086
And Tom Tom: I Have Version 7, not sure exact version number.
Now I cannot get the maps to install on this as it needs 100mb for these maps. As there isn't enough internal storage this cannot be done.
So If anyone could shed some light on this would be good.
If i don't answer here if you are after certain information my email is:

Put the maps on the storage card. The actual navigator app can go on either. Some TomTom cabs that are floating about will only install to main memory... others will give you the option.

Should my maps be a .cab file ?
**BUMP**
Sorry to bump this but i really would like help
If the maps installed on the internal storage and the program wont see it, your best bet would be contacting tomtom, if you have updated your phones system software and moved to a COOKED ROM then the original phones id number would have changed, when the maps are registered the id is used as part of the key hence the key changing the registered status is also changed from working to non working.
Now tomtom may be nice and give you a new registration for the device or they may say not going to happen. If the program and maps are from some other source like say Pirate Bay then you wont get any help from this forum as its very much frowned upon and posts get deleted that even try to hint at them kind of illegal shenanigans.
Hope you get your self sorted.

your maps should be a directory, not a .cab file
it has to be copied to the root of the internal storage.

hi.
the best option is to install tomtom to your storage card, by doing this the software defaults to the storage card for the map info.
my tomtom version cannot be installed to the storage, even though tomtom home placed the cabs there. it doesnt even ask.
the map can be on the storage, tomtom home copies it there when you select that when starting tomtom home (i can choose between internal mem and 4gb mem as target).
when tomtom is installed in your internal memory, you can move the files to the 4gb storage, and launch it from there without problems.
