How to backup my MDA Vario, before I get a replacement? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi all,
First time poster, so go easy on me
I got a MDA Vario on T-Mobile here in the UK, just over a week ago. All in all, its been great, but after a few problems with it not receiving calls etc I need to get a replacement.
As such, I would like to backup the setting, pictures, messages, contacts etc from the current MDA Vario, so i can restore them to the replacement MDA Vario I get.
So can someone help? and tell me how this can be done?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

SPB Backup seems pretty good, and you can use it 5 times in trial mode without having to pay for it. Don't forget to backup to a memory card or copy it to your PC!
I've not tried to restore from a backup yet, but I gather the output file it creates is an executable that will run the whole restore task for you. You can also use a PC program to retreive specific files & data directly from the backup file.
By the way, does anyone know how easy it is to restore such a backup after you've upgraded your ROM? Or would there be so many differences in the Registry, etc that you'd just have to re-install everything from scratch?

No sms account after hard rest

Hello,
I just gave my magician (t-mobile mda compact) a hard reset because it was getting a little slow. Because i was going to do a hard reset anyway i decided to install the newest T-mobile rom update 1.13. I didn't want all the T-mobile customization, so i did the softreset trick, and installed the cabs i did need afterwards manually. Everything is working allright except for sms messages. I made a backup of my sms messages with Jeyo mobile companion, and tried to restore. The thing is that the whole sms folder is gone, and it doesnt return by restoring the backup. My guess is that i forgot to install a cab file... If someone knows which cab file I should install or if there is another solution I would be very gratefull.

Edit: I found the solution on this forum, the problem was Sprite backup (offcourse) I downloaded their own tool to reset the entire mail segment, it worked. A link for people with the same problem http://www.spritesoftware.com/downloads/CleanMail.zip and yeah I know I should've had searched a little better

Needed to send my S100 for repair and did a backup. when got it back and tried to restore backup.stg file goes almost until the end, but.... then does not load 4 dll and some databases that I think are from from the outlook. I have set the Regional Settings as previously, but does not work. The fact is that I have everything back except all my telephone numbers and outlook contacts that I have collected for the last 3 years!!!

You shouldn't use ActiveSync for backup (often problems with restore), use SpriteBackup.

ROM upgrade - how to backup?

Hi all,
I'm thinking about upgrading to latest ROM however it took me a while to make all my apps running (especially TomTom) so I'd like to avoid reinstall. Is there any proven method how/with what software backup data, upgrade and then restore data from backup?
Any comments appreciated.
Chris
PS: Forgot to mention: device is Imate Jasjar.
I've heard that SpriteSoftware advertizes that their backup can even be used for restoring data after a firmware upgrade.
I cannot confirm this as I am more than sceptic about it (I think it is not advisable to do so on a new firmware).
If you try just buy the Backup Software for WM5 !
What are your really important data you should backup ?
1. Internet Bookmarks
2. Contacts (the ones in your phone)
3. important SMS
You can re-install all programs again after an upgrade (though it's very annoying work).
I'd like to avoid 2 evenings lost for installing all the stuff.
I was just reading about this tonight on the Axim site.
Yes, Sprite will do backups that will restore after ROM upgrade, they even have an Upgrade Mode built into their software.
If I can remember the post I read you have to run a tool, copy a file to your SD card, back up, do the upgrade then copy the file back and restore your backup.
Here is the FAQ entry dealing with it, but the instructions are slightly different. You might want to check up on it yourself.
I tried this and it just didn't work. I have been in communication with Sprite for nearly a week now and I've got no where. If you got to the Sprtite Backup site and look in the Q&A/Forum, you should see all my correspondence.

Anyway, I spent hours yesterday doing a manual re-build. The plus side is that I've freed loads of memory after the (well several actually) hard resets.

Backup my phone.

T-Mobile : MDA Vario II
Hi all,
I'm returning my phone tomorrow due to the faulty stylus issue that seems to plague this phone.
Can do a complete backup of my phone (like a snapshot) so I can restore my phone to it's origional state?
Thanks in advance
Do I need some software, or can I do it from Active Sync.
Spb Backup
Try Spb Backup trial version (3rd part software but fully functional). It will back up everything to a self extracting file (You won't even need Spb Backup to restore your settings when you get a new one). Just make sure you copy this file to a PC or storage card, so you can pop it back on to your replacement phone in order to restore your old settings.

What is the best way to backup my Wizard

Dear wizard owners,
recently I had to fully reinstall my wizard since I was having trouble with the windows mobile 6 'no alarm notification' bug and couldn't solve it despite of the many solution that also can be found on this forum. Nevertheless, it was quite a job to costumize my Wizard to the state as it used to be. Therefore this question, is it possible to make some kind of image of the state of my MDA including all programs and settings and such? Thanks in advance.
Bart
I use SPB Backup which works really well and does restore my Wizard back to its state with all my programs installed.
Its quite easy to use to; just open an exe file and let the program do the rest to restore.
keep in mind, however, that you cannot use this program (nor any other one that I have heard of), to restore after a ROM upgrade. This program will only work if you are restoring on the same ROM you backed up on.
Thanks Zakhir for your quick reply. I will certainly try it.
