Question about Mini SD - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Im looking to get the TomTom software for my wizard soon, but i dont have a mini SD card..
what is the minium size i need for the tomtom to work (load its maps etc)
Thanks in advance

It all depends on the maps you wish to install on the miniSD Card.
I for example have the Germany Map installed, which is 220 MB. But if I wanted to install a multi map ( Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic ) it would eat more than 425 MB.
So it really all depens on the maps you wish to install. I got myself a 2 GB miniSD because they are rather cheap by now.

DREAMBOXER, hmmm well i would only be looking to install the uk maps at the moment..how much MB's would that require?
im soon going to start driving lessons etc, so having a tom tom sat nav would be useful for future purposes..

installing extra maps for tomtom

Hi,
Going to the states next week so i wanted to add new york and nevada maps for tomtom. I have placed the maps onto my mini sd card but tomtom can only find my original great britain map that i use daily. How can i use these usa maps? I think it's something to do with the current map file but i aint sure what i'm doing. Any ideas.
cheers
just stating the obvious, but have you tried changing map???
yes gone into preferences in tomtom to change maps but only map visable is great britain map?
I'm assuming you're running the updated tomtom version 5.21 and trying to install version 5.0/5.1 maps. These will not work, and you will not be able to see them in the map selection screen. I believe maps from version 5.0 are labeled as 566, while maps for tt 5.21 are 567. In the folder of the map you are trying to load look for a file named (statename).pna, if you open this with wordpad on your pc you will see which version map it is (probably 566).
I don't believe tomtom has released single US maps for version 5.21 yet (maps version 567). To get the 566 maps to work you will probably have to downgrade your tomtom navigator .exe to 5.0, however if you're using a bluetooth gps reciever it will probably stop working since this version does not accept ports 6/7. I'm in that boat right now
yeah that right just checked and the maps are for tomtom 5 not 5.21!!! dam needed them asap aswell. nevermind
im running tomtom 5.210 and in the verion info it states GB map ver562 and both the map and blutooth on port 7 works fine for me.
us maps
How did you get the USA maps to work on version 5.21.??? I have tried everything that I can to get it to work with no joy....
I am just hoping that new maps are release before I go to the states later in the year.
I am open to any suggestions / advice on how to get them to work...
Hi,
I too am using the 5.21 upgrade and all my maps still work, GB Map v562, France Plus v571 and Australia v568, application version 5.210 gps driver v1.20.
no problems with maps at all, have you tried downloading them again......
Limewire has them
cheers

I would ask TomTom tech support or get a refund if I were you .....
You can just use the old 5.0 exe.
Replace the 5.21 "tomtom navigator.exe" in program files\navigator with the old 5.0 one.
Just remember to first back up your 521 exe!
I do this all the time as in the States a lot.
If you just own 5.21 and don't have the old exe the suggest you download it from a torrent - you've paid for version "5" afterall.

Tytn and Tomtom

Anyone managed to get tomtom installed and running, if so how did you do it, i want to install it on my storage card only
Thanks
Chris
I did nothing special, just follow the installer instructions. Which problem do you have?
It wont install on the sd card doesnt even ask then bombs out, did you install from an sd card or a cd rom and then it doesnt find the maps
I installed from cdrom and manually moved the map folders to miniSD card.
Hi,
Go to the TomTom site and download the latest update, then you can install it on the Storage Card....
You have to have legal version....
Thanks guys its all sorted, needed currentmap.dat in my docs works fine now
thanks for the pointers
Chris
TomTom
Which version of TomTom do I need to purchase for my TyTn? I live in the US.
I am using 5.21, but with spanish maps. Don't know for the US, sorry.
Thats ok. Thanks for the reply. Are you talking about TomTom Mobile or TomTom Navigation?

TomTom Navigator 5.21, that's what I'm using.
TomTom 6 work for me with North America or USA/Canada maps. I think I am currently on TT 6.201 and map Usa and Canada v 675.1409. Support told me that TT 6 would not work on Windows Mobile 6, but its works for me so far....
i got tomtom 6.03 with aussie maps 675,
works brilliantly except for the POI freezing glitch.
the 675 maps has speeds certain roads which is a nice feature providing they dont change the speed limit on the roads it has mapped LOL
Slow startup
I installed Tomtom 5.21 to main memory, map to Storage card.
But it takes a very long time for the app to start, over 1 minute.
I am running official Dopod WM6.
Anybody else duffer from slow startup and any ideas as to what can be done to improve it?

TomTom6 Way too slow, please have a look..

I am running Tomtom 6.010 (7720) on my Prophet at clock speed 240 Omap. Startup of the app is fast but then when I load the whole "Western Europe" map and navigate with it the arrow on the map moves only laggy and slow. Its like there is a skip lag to every refresh. I tried taking away all POI and loading a smaller map (benelux single) it does not seem to help. How can i get things a little Smoother?
Thanks for advice.
Hi,I have the same version of tomtom 6 with only france map and the original cpu clock:it runs correctly.Your problem is the western map is bigger than france map ( only 200 Mo and western 1,5 go i think ),so it's normal tomtom runs slowly, especially with a lot of poi in the map.
I also had a very slow TomTom6 (way much slower than TT5)
I formatted the card, copied the TT6 Europe map, and is was way much faster that TT5 with only BeneluxPlus.
It seems that TT6 realy has problems with speed on fragmented storage cards.

This is correct. It runs fine once the storage card is cleaned up/fixed.
Please ignore this reply
Isn't there any relaiable tool to defragment the SD-Card? Or doesn't it work that way
Did try PocketMechanic a couple of months ago. But the program wiped half of my SD-Card :-S
Well, not sure defragmenting the card would help... but please not that Western Europe map is very big...
Just using common sense it is easy to understand that tomtom would be slower searching for a city in the whole Europe index... while using just the country map would be of course quicker as there are less cities in the index for exemple...
Just use countries map with your prophet... you'll see the difference!
I used the Benelux Plus map (with major roads of europe) and it was lagging as well.
After I have installed the 'normal' benelux map without the major roads of europe it's running much faster.
It also calculated the routes way faster. So I guess the size of the map has some influence on how the tomtom runs on a s200 :/
Used to run better on my s100 though,.. oh well
edit: btw, you can use the normal windows application to defragment a sd card. But I don't know if this helps on a sdcard at all since it has no mechanical parts that need to seek for data.
indeed, I really don't see any interest in defragmenting a flash card...
As I said... it's perfectly normal to have tomtom slower when it have to calculate roads in surch a large map as western europe or a country map including major EU roads...
It is far better and quicker to use the countries you need as separated maps.
Well I've moved everything from my SD to my PC. After that I've copied the Benelux first to my SD then the rest of my stuff. Now my GPS connects almost immediately!

Can't install new maps 7.25 on Cruise

Hello everybody,
first of all, this is not a post about warez, since I am talking about new western europe map v. 7.25 I have just bought from tomtom.com.
Well, before I had installed on my Cruise tomtom navigator 7 that I got from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401679), and everything seemed to work fine: I could download the free test map, and also free voices. Then I wanted to buy and install the new western europe (v. 7.25) map, that is available from a few days on tomtom.com. To this purpose I created an account, registerd my device as a TomTom navigator 7 one, and then went to map shop and bought the map. Then I downloaded and installed tomtom home 2.3, and I tried to install the map on my device using it, I can see the map I bought but I am getting an error message that says that the map is not compatible with my device.
Can anybody help me?
Sorry for error!
Remember no warez here, edit your post.

Have you tried copying the card to your sd card? Just to the root folder?
As far as I know there might be still a problem with activating the card.

I cannot just download the map, the only way tomtom allows you to download it is using tomtom home, which says that my device is not compatible, so I have nothing to copy anywhere..
I don't know but is there a update or new version to make Tomtom, Tomtom 7.25?
Hey mate, sorry to hear that you have problems. I would like to know if there is a way to get this working myself before I buy a ver7 map myself.
I know there has been someone else getting this to work in this forum. Maybe you an set the device to something else for the SD Card in TomTom Home. If it doesn't work while the card is in the phone maybe try it in a card reader. Think that should work. Let me know if you have success
Cheers
I'm running TomTom 7.450 on my Polaris, and I'm using the Map of Norway,
Finland, Sweden and Denmark v7.20 without problems. The maps need to be purchased and installed via TomTom Home 2 (Set your device av TomTom 720).

These maps are not anymore available for TomTom 720, at least in Italian site now if you register as 720 you can only buy 8.10 maps that are not compatible with tomtom7, at least to my knowledge. If you register as a tomtom 7 device, as for example a vodafone touch diamond, you can buy 7.25 maps, as I have done, but then you get the "impossible to install on this device" error if you try to download them.
may be it is not for One
Not completely sure but maps for One devices are not always compatile with normal PPC tomtom version.
I had this kind of problem with Tomtom 6 - bought maps for tomtom 6 One and those were incompatible.
After talking to Tomtom support they changed my subscription.
Unfortunately I never used tomtomv7 but instead got iGo8.

Navigation Software wanted

Halo all,
I'm searching for a compatible navigation software for my new Rhodium (T-Mobile Germany). Important is that I need a map of USA.
All my favorites (Navigon, TomTom) do not offer a map of USA preferably in Germany.
Any tips for me?
Thanks
Pascal
I'm not sure I understand your question. 've never used Navigon, but I certainly know that TomTom sells maps of the USA. Are you saying that you are having difficulty finding out where to purchase these maps from Germany?
Yes, in all german online shops there is no Map of USA.
you could try getting the igo8 standard euro version
http://navngo.com/pages/global/eng/igo_8_description
then get the us map as an extra through
https://www.naviextras.com
'nav-n-go igo8' is known as a nng device on the navieextras site
I've tried Navigon - don't remember why I didn't like it but I ditched it. I have both Garmin and TomTom - both of which I assure you you can get USA maps for (I have them so I know its possible). As for which is the best... Eh... Your mileage may vary. I'm currently in love with the features of Garmin but the positional lag is worse in Garmin than TomTom... I think either one would suit you well, but I'd guess TomTom has a wider array of maps available.
How about CoPilot Live?
At least in the USA, I had the option to buy all of the maps for Copilot Live 8, and not just the North America maps.

I used Iguidance 2009, it comes with an 8Gb card that is tied to the software. If you don't mind using this card, it seems to work pretty well - and it comes with a full set of USA maps.
