phone turns on too slow

Is anyone else finding that their phone takes so long to turn on sometimes that they miss a call? On average my phone takes 2 full rings to start ringing itself. When it's 4 rings to voicemail, that halves the time I have to pick up the phone!
I find it takes 2-4 seconds to turn it on normally.
Anyone else with this issue? I'm running the latest LVSW.
If you go into the phone settings you'll see that you can adjust the amount of seconds the phone rings before forwarding to voicemail. The default is 20 seconds, but this can be increased to 30 seconds.
Also, you don't have to turn the phone on to answer a call, just hit the green phone button.
Another thing to do is to get a bluetooth headset, then you won't have to worry about having to fiddle with the phone to answer a call.

I would like to do that as well - but can't find the setting within my phone's options, can you give details how to do that?
Thanks
Barney
Go into Phone options ---> Services --> Call Forwarding and choose get settings. This should then give you a dialogue box where you can tell it how long to ring for before going to VM
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Start | Phone | Menu | Options | Services | Call Forwarding | Get Settings
Excellent - Thanks, mine was set to just 15 secs, now set it to 30 secs - much better.
Cheers
Barney

It's a common WM6 (and WM5?) problem that the Hermes has a few seconds startup delay when receiving a call. Don't think anyone has a solution yet.

Adjust ringtone length

Hi all,
I know it can be done but don't understand how? I want to extend the ringtone length before the call is dropped as my deaf father never gets to answer his Vario II before the call goes to answer machine.
Can somebody point me in the right direction/link or explain how to.
Thanks
not a techie so keep it simple!!
check the voicemail settings
I believe the voicemail carrier is where you need to make the change (ie tmobile, or whoever).
With Rogers in canada, mine picks up after 3 rings. Without voicemail- the phone will ring about 15-20 times before an automated message says "user unavailable" or so.
For AT&T you call tech support and they'll adjust it for you in (I think) 30-second increments....I found it a necessity to do for my parents who aren't in the habit of carrying their phones on their person.
Extending ringtone
Can't do it through my voicemail unless I'm missing something.
Have just found this on another forum.. somebody is having the same problem!
My Dad was having trouble picking calls up in time. He keeps his XDAIIs in the standard pouch and can never get the phone out in time to answer calls. If any others find themselves with the same problem then here's how to get your phone to ring for the maximum allowed - 30 seconds: ( I think providers set it at 20 by default)
Press the following numbers/symbols into your phone:
**61*07973100123*11*30#
If you then press the Call button (Green) that will
forward all non answered calls to your voice
mail. If you want it to go elsewhere change the number in
the middle (07973100123).
The number at the end is the number of seconds (*30#).
You can check your settings afterwards with the command:
*#61#
Then press the Call button (Green)
07973100123 is the Orange answerphone. Change this to your own provider's number.
Can somebody advise - if I just change it to my T-mobile voicemail number it should work - wouldn't mind somebodies advice before I give it a go! Any T-mobile Vario II experts out there?
Thanks
Thanks for the tip; works great with Cingular; do the *#61# first to note the correct phone number for your voicemail, then make the change as noted for 30 or however many seconds you want. If successful there will be a 'succeeded' message received
I'm on T-mobile and I keep getting "failed" error msgs. The *#61# works, but when I set the T-mobile number in place of the orange number I get the error msg.
the solution:
both your solutions are provided by the service provider.
extend the voice mail waiting time(ask you service provider for the
maximum time available - they can change it for you).
use the GSM command quoted here by "backtap", this command will change the waiting time is some providers that allow the customer to change the waiting time.
In some networks, canceling the voice mail can allow a longer waiting time.
the longest I know of is 45 sec.
most voice mail system default to 30/25 sec.
25 sec are 6 rings
There's a much, much easier way to do this.
Tap as follows:
Start | Phone | Menu | Options | Services | Call Forwarding | Get Settings
You'll get a popup about the phone retrieving the settings from the network.
For the "No Answer" selection, adjust it to 30 seconds (the maximum). The default, I believe, is 20 seconds, so you should be able to get 10 more seconds.
Then tap OK.
I recommend changing the title to
"How do I change waiting time for the voice mail system?"

Thanks that worked. My default was set to 25 seconds. I was able to change it to 30 ... 'preciate that very much.
Thank you all
Great stuff, great post.
Slightly different way of accessing the last suggestion (Start.Settings.Phone.Services.Call Forwarding) on my UK TMobile Vario II but got there in the end.
Hopefully this will help to convince my hard of hearing father that he should keep the Vario!
Thanks again....
now does anyone know why the keyboard stops working when you really need it most, and why the buttons don't pick up a call as well as the screen, and why the battery keeps running flat......and...and...
Anyway I'm developing a fondness for the Vario II but it taking some work!

@doom tints: Thanks for the cool settings tip! Just upped mine from 25 to 30.
AT&T w/ Voicemail Ring Length
Just FYI, I had mine adjusted today via tech support. I was told the default was 20 seconds and the max they could bump it to was 30 seconds before voicemail picked up. With the lag between the caller's phone and my cell, you lose a few seconds, but 30 seconds is working out a lot better.

incoming call pickup delay

when a call comes in, i either push answer on the screen or hit the green button. however, it takes a few seconds before the my phone actually picks up the call. has anyone else run into this problem?
i just tried calling myself and the phone just keeps ringing the extra ~3 seconds before the phone picks up.
Here's an article on how to fix that, but it involves a registry editor and adjusting a setting
http://www.wmexperts.com/wm-cdma-phones-have-delay-when-answering-call-data-connection-read
I actually have this problem but the registry fix isn't what's wrong ...is there any other ideas?
i'm pretty sure it has to do with WM - I have a coworker with the Mogul and he says he has the same delay that i have both with answering calls and hanging up calls.

Try this one
It is not a fix per say for what you wnat but it will make your phone ring soner.
Get into your msl settings by pressing ##778# on stock rom (you will need your unlock code) and then click on edit, then click your left soft key (should be view info) then go to modem settings and change the slot cycle index to 1. What this will do is make your cell phone check the tower for incomming calls every 1-2 seconds instead of every 5-7 seconds.

I agree that this works. It helped my pickups be a little quicker and more consistent. If you don't know your unlock code, google for an app called "getspc"

Send button behaviour

Hi all
I been havin my Mini now for 2 days. And i have sent atleast 5 sms by misstake. While typing a sms and tapping to reach the extended word suggestion button i sometimes hit send instead. they are just next to each other.
I had the send button down to the left before but the same thing, i hit it by misstake.
I wonder if there is a way to change the behaviour, like slide the send button to send or have a confirmation before it sends?
/J
If you turn your phone 90 degrees you wont have this problem, because your send button will disapear, but i had the same problem when i had my phone horizontal, just turn it vertical and your done

Can't Answer Phone

I allow phone calls when in Do Not Disturb mode. When I get a call, the normal phone screen does not pop up as it always did with any other Android phone I have had (including the S7).. Now I have to long press the home key and then swipe up on my phone icon in order to answer the call. This is ridiculous as it is hard to do when my phone rings at 2 AM (my job requires 24 hour phone calls). Is anyone else having this issue or is it just a bug on my phone?
