Having got tomtom navigator 5.21 working on my Exec (now that Tomtom are supporting it and providing activation codes) I find that the default zoom is too small for normal use, especially in rural areas. On my previous XDAIIi the default zoom was fine and everything easily visible.
On the Exec, the map detail is small and the compass almost unreadable. You zoom in automatically at junctions so this is better, but zoom out after the junction.
I know you can use the manual zoom buttons but this only lasts a few seconds and then zooms out again.
Tomtom support could not offer a solution.
Does anyone know hoe to alter the default zoom setting? Can you alter settings on the Exec to compensate? I have tried the 'large text' setting on the Exec but this made no difference.
Any ideas greatfully received
don't waste your time. Not possible
you could try running TomTom in 320x240 mode instead of VGA mode, but this requires a hack ( try pocketgps.com to see what needs modifying in the TomTom executable )
For that you need to use a resource editor and remove the HI_DPI_Aware resource from the "TomTom Navigator.exe"
Thanks for the info Ibendlin.
Not sure what a resource editor is but assume you can download one. Is it similar to a registry editor? Is it relatively easy to remove the HP_DPI-Aware resource for the Tomtom navigator.exe file?
Sounds like I could end up with another can of worms if I try this one. Perhaps I would be better off accepting the small screen?
Any other exec users got the same problem?
try your luck...

I nicked the HTC 'switcherbar.exe' from my axim x50v and put it on my JasJar (i notice a collegue has it already on his k-jam as part of the default rom). It work, is only 43k and is perfectly stable and usable. No more pocket plus slowdowns! The only problem is that the icon is QVGA and sits in the middle of the menu bar! Still, much beter than anything else I've tried! Does anyone know how we might resource hack the .exe to use a VGA icon (or if this is even possible). I've attached the .exe for 'ahem' educational purposes.
when i try to copy it to JJ i get access denied using activesync, i have extracted the exe from the rar, the rar will copy to me jj no problem, the exe just wont do it, even renaming it to .exx.
i got it there, i put it on me server and wifi'd it using resco explorer to map to share,
is this an activesync block? dubious, it had same issue even if i renamed the exe to something like exx.
I like this app, small to the point and optimised. only crit is as you say it plonks the icon in a stupid place, is there another app maybe that can force it to the system tray?
Ohh, also the brightness and power options dont seem to work, if someone could reengineer this app to allow:
1, vga icons
2, appear in sys tray or atleast be more dynamic in its positioning
3, either remove or fix the backlight and power options.
Way over my head but im sure someone here would be able to fix it.
prehaps we could get the one off the k-jam? I presume the brightness & power shortcuts work on there...
Hi,
I'm sure there is somebody here that can help me. I've set up my SPV M5000 with some old programs, and they certainly messed up with the registry about file associations.
I can display jpg normaly, but if I try to see a jpg file (ie not embeded into a web page), I get the file save dialog. At first, it was registered to pimg.exe, and I tryed associating to to pocket painter for example, with no luck.
Anybody know the key to place to go back to a normal jpg displaying state for pocket ie?
TIA
I've the same problem.
Mine is the same but I've installed nothing that would affect the file associations...
I think perhaps it's just another of the joyful 'features' of Microsoft's wonderful Pocket Internet Explorer
Does it do the same with a gif or bmp?
V
That's exactly what I had on mine. I didn't get to the bottom of it, but instead did what vijay suggested and created a local html file with the jpg embedded. All I needed was to view a single jpg within PIE (from my webcam). This works fine, but is a workaround only for 1 jpg. I wouldn't want to do this for everything!
Surely one of the File Explorer tools can change the file associations?
I think the problem lies within PIE, when you click a pic it assumes its an attachment and so will save it,
I cant try atm but its worth trying to goto a pic directly ie,
http://www.website.com/picture.jpg
it may well display the image then, not sure, cant test atm. and its not going to be very useful when doing some normal browsing.
Same with Gif. I've teste on a K-Jam, and it display the picture properly in ie. I'm sure there is something messed up in registry
Found the solution
There is a CLSID value missing in HKCR/MIME/Database/Content Type/image/jpg and other gif and jpeg
Add a string value CLSID
{698E3FCA-70C3-11D0-81E8-00A0C90AD21A} and you are set.
@thaihugo
Won't work for me.
I've tried with PHM RegEdit but same behaviour as before.
Can you give us a screen shot of the correct registry key, please?
BTW:
There is another string "Image Filter CLSID" and
there is a "Bits"-key in /gif and /bmp and /jpeg but not in /jpg.
Are these needed too?
OK now it works.
What i've done is:
Created and copied the CLSID mentioned above into
image/bmp
image/gif
image/jpeg
image/jpg
image/pjeg
Copy the "Bits" from /jpeg to /jpg
Created a "Image Filter CLSID" in /jpg with the same content as found in /jpeg
Save, wait and Softreset. -> Works as intended!
I donĀ“t know if i've done to much, but everything works now.
I'm happy. Thank you!
I though it was my programs that would delete this keys, but it seems you need to insert them also. Maybe it is a full system bug? A registry export might be of some help if some other report the same problem.
This still isn't quite working for me...
Can someone explain again EXACTLY what I have to do?
Hmm - interesting stuff - will have to try this.
I assume this isn't going to affect other JPG viewers, eg Opera???
I have the same problem on both Hima and Universal WM2006
Himalaya > TOFCLOCK HIMA WM6 AKU.0.7.0
Universal > Jwrightmcps 9000_WWE_21200_21207_11500
The registry solution proposed doesn't work for me, probably due a different CSLID. Any suggestion?
THX
Many thanks to CouchPotato
@CouchPotato
Thank youuuu, your step by step solution worked fine for me on BA (WM6)

Easy to replicate.
Just launch OziExplorerCE on the Athena. Then open a map. It's shown perfectly in VGA resolution without the need of those programs to change to real VGa mode. BUT...
If you click and keep press the screen a pop-up menu comes up. Choose Full Screen in order to see the map in full screen mode. The map appears in the screen for a while and then the map area goes white. If you press the screen and drag it the map comes up again until you release the screen.
The bug is on releases 1.12.32 and 1.12.35 (1.12.3e3) and in the development release 1.11.6h which was the first one supporting VGA mode.
Can someone replicate the problem? Any idea on solving it?
Thank you in advance.
mahjong
P.D.: Sorry about my poor english.
I tried to replicate the bug in a Fujitsu n520 which is VGA too and the OziExplorer works perfect there... so... looks like a problem only in the Athena/Ameto/HTC Advantage.
it tries this
pocket land:

the use regularly. perfect
Hi.
I know CompeGPS... but you know I got hundreds (hmm... even thousands) of maps and ortophotos (is this spanglish?) of my country calibrated (again spanglish? I mean with .map file generated) for OziExplorer... and I'm not too sure about converting all of them in batch-mode into a format recognized by CompeGPS.
Anyway thank you for answering.
mahjong
any news?
Is there any news on OziExplorer?
I have the exact same issue, in full screen my maps go blank.
I can zoom in or out and the map becomes temporarily visible
but when switching on the gps the screen blanks out again...
Thanks for any advice.

I'm still with the problem even running the Developer release of OziExplorerCE. I was told that that one should fix the problem... is not.
So... Fugawi or CompeLand looks a solution if full-screen is a must. Anyway I keep on using OziCE since I have hundreds of maps and sat-photos calibrated for Ozi.
converting
The new (HTC WM6) Rom upgrade did not help either...
Is there a quick way to convert all the ozi maps to one of the other programs (Compe, Fugawi)?
Sent an email to OziExplorer and HTC on the issue (weeks ago) and have not received any reply...
Compe people has info in their web page about batch converting Ozi maps but the problem is that I like OZI. I'm not aware about batch conversions on Fugawi.
compeGPS changed my life...
Well, as I did not get any replies nor found any solutions, I tried compeGPS Pocket Land and it is as if I am timewarped... I thought I could not live without Oziexplorer, but I can...
Far more versatile, 3D view (like TTN) with track up (maps turned so they show you where you are heading), changing moving map icons with a pic of my car, etc. etc., and support that does reply to your questions...
The PC version allows you to search for all sorts of maps available for yor area from within the program (and shows them there).
I too had thousands of maps in ozi format, but I found an easy (batch)conversion program by John Tserkezis: MakeImage (eventually combined with map2ppc for cleaning .map files) which does the trick!
See http://members.optusnet.com.au/~johntserkezis/oziutils.html
Cheers!
Go back evil man!!! Keep that temptation away from me.
Ah ah ah ah ah.
Hello everyone,
Having tried out RealVGA on my recent reflash of WM6 for my Uni I must say it's rather lovely at 96dpi and while quite a few progs get along just fine there will always be a few that just are not keen on it and resetting the Uni just to run a game or prog is a pain on the rear.
My question is would it be possible to have RealVGA have a list of .exe's which would be run at 192dpi (kinda like Midget_1990's VGA prog but the other way round) so in operation it would kind of do the following. . .
Run prog.exe
RealVGA checks list finds prog.exe is 192dpi only
RealVGA runs prog.exe in 192dpi
When you exit/taskswitch prog.exe screen returns to 96dpi
I know it's a bit of a long shot but I'm also looking to treat myself to an Athena/Ameo/x7501 of some flavour and given that this has the same issues as the Uni I think this would be a winner for both units.
Long time lurker first time poster
That is not possible. RealVGA does not run in background, it just changes a few registry settings so the device 'thinks' its a regular device with big screen and not VGA.
What you can do is make some programs 'VGA aware' that way they will run in true VGA while the rest of the system works normally.
You do this by adding a resource to the exe of type "CEUX" called "HI_RES_AWARE" with binary content 01 00.
You can use Resource Hacker but make sure the file is not signed when you edit it.
Thanks for the reply,
After posting this thread I thought I could of better worded it so take two.
As you say RealVGA just performs it's magic then it's done but would it be possible for an app to be made that could sit in the background and change the dpi on the fly or is it something beyond the capabilities of a WM device?
Meantime I shall have a look at the method you have described and see if it can fix the problem on imate blackjack as it visually looked ok but none of the menu items could be selected.
hi
i have installed tomtom 7 on my diamond and i have one problem.
Probably because of diamond's screen resolution(640x480) during navigation poi icon are too small....there is any way for fix it?can I just resize poi icon?
I have got the same problem, during driving you can't see the small icon properly, but secondly I am using the voices as well, so rather than just the beeping sound my camera database tells me what speed camera is ahead, so this solves the issue even better.
According to your advice I did try to edit and even created a new image of 32x32, 64x64, & 128x128, but none of that work, it just start to show a blank RED icon rather than "30" written on it, so I revert it back.

Sid

yes im using voices as well, but with ipod conected to the car's hifi its hard to hear anything else
I guess this problem should appear on every diamond, but around i havnt found any discussion about it.......
So,its a common bug or just for few lucky diamonder??
I have the same problem, the icons is too little
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432178
Icons gone !
I have no icons on a Western Europe map V725.1905
But i do have them on an Benelux Map V725.1883.
I don't know whats going on, i use TT7 V7.451 (9033).
Also my WE map loads and is very slow and Benelux is very quick.
Check it out, maybe i'm the only one.
Sorry guys one more clarification, are you using QVGA Tomtom version?
As I was using the QVGA version of "7.40.9028", but now I am using VGA "7.451.9033".
VGA has got normal resolution as in the QVGA everything was TINY.
Basically it is just one EXE file to overwrite the existing QVGA exe in the device, I don't know if the moderator will allow this, otherwise I could upload that.
Regards
Sid
I'm using the VGA Black 7.451.9033 on HTC Diamond, but the radar icons, poi, ecc. are too small and remain too small even by increasing the zoom

Like me!!!
My solution: I edit TomTom.exe to run it at low resolution mode. You'll see all menus fine... and the map and navigation screen at normal size (normal as QVGA equipment).
I spoke with TomTom's service and nobody has solution, while I can use TT7 at car and easily I can see the radar warnings.
From Xda developer tread...i don't remember where......:
I must say when I first got my Diamond it was TomTom that I was looking forward to putting on there for the real VGA 'experience' and at first glance I was very impressed... but then I started using it for navigation and, not least given I use it in 2D mode, soon found that everything was a tad too small! I wasn't so fussed about the POIs but it was the map scale overall - at arms length I could hardly see the map detail and really didn't need to see for 10 miles around - it wouldn't be so bad if it didn't zoom out so much.
So, here's how I sort of fixed it.... a kind of workaround which disables TomTom's awareness of it being VGA. The upshot of this is that everything becomes a reasonable scale however the drawback is that it's a waste of VGA and at first glance you might think 'oh my God that's awful - so blocky!' but I soon found that when actually using it in my car I really don't now notice. The blockiness is down to running at a non-native resolution - like all fixed-pixel screens you end up with unclean lines.
Grab yourself a copy of the freeware resource PC tool Resource Hacker, make a copy of the TomTom Navigator.exe file on the PPC, and open it up with the tool.
Now find the resource CEUX\HI_RES_AWARE\2057, right-click it and delete it. It will likely take the whole branch with it if it is the only entry in there. Now save the resulting file (I got an error at this point - dunno if it's Vista or what but it still seemed to work) and copy the file back to the PPC (note it makes a backup so make sure you get the right one!) - you might want to call it something different so you can then have a choice of VGA or non-VGA TomTom's to run.
And that's it... I'm sure when you first see it in action you'll think it's horrible... but in use I think it is fine and indeed for me makes it at least usable once more.
Lucausee i have use your solution, in effect solve the problem, tnx.
Excelent fix, well done and thanks.
