Dead - well Almost spv m5000 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I have been donated an Orange SPV m5000 to help with my disseration,
unfortunatly the rom as been tampered with or removed , well im lead to
believe. Due to this the phone no longer turns on, the only thing the handset will do is get to the bootloader screen.. after resetting the factory settings the handset still does not turn on. i think the handset therefore has no ROM files on it as I have tried to update using downloaded roms such as
Orange_SPV_M5000_v1.13.49_WWE
JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301
both say that they cannot communicate properly with the device...
using MaUpgradeUt_noID and following instruction posted the handset starts to update but then says that the updater is not compatable with the handset... any suggestions on how to load a new rom onto the handset would be greatly apprecieted or infact how to to fix this problem with limited technological knowlegde
thanks

I'LL GIVE YOU 50 QUID FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
****, not even I'd be that cruel.
First off I'm 75% sure your device is fine.
ROM chips are nigh on impossible to remove without breaking the device and doubly nigh-on impossible to put back in! No one in their right mind would even concider doing such a rash thing, espcially with something that costs this much!
Now I think the problem is the same as the one I had - these ROM upgrades can contain many separate updates which are then kind of glued together - the problem is (and the problem you may have) is that they don't all match what is already in your PDA.
You therefore have to do one of 2 things:
1) Find an upgrade that DOES match - but then you'd have to know what's already in there & then find a match - unlikely.
2) Make them match with a bit of jiggery pokery. read THIS:

Seriously dude, good luck!

Still Dead well almost
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Ive been thru the directions on the link provided and still having no luck, am still getting a communications error - 101 from the update ... am thinkin ive got the incorrect orginal roms ... does any1 know where i can find the orginal roms for a UK Orange SPV m5000 ( am currently using a rom that gives me operator name as Qtek and WWE - the name of the file is on my orginal post)
any further help/guidance would be greatly appreciated....
Many thanks

Flash It Again
1. Download This:
http://www.business.orange.co.uk/se...c=PaDPage&cid=1044130840493&mid=1044129390154
2. Make sure u are not using a USB Hub
3. Make sure u are using the proper USB Lead!!!
4. Install Active Sync 4.1 On your Computer (it needs the USB Driver Within this Program to communicate with your UNI.
5. If you have followed all the above correctly your SPV will flash
especially if it is going into bootloader mode.
If you get country error or comm error, hit update AGAIN, DO NOT Disconnect.

IF the upgrade wont go 100% thru, try upgrading the radio only by deleting all the .nbf files except the radio_.nbf then run MAUpgradeUt_NOID.exe

Up and Running finally .... thanks
Just to say that my SPV M5000 is now up and running.. thanks to Andy and comp.solutions for helping me out, just followed ur instructions took a few attempts but its all gd now
Many thanks

Damn! Bang goes my 300 quid profit!
No, seriously dude, you don't know how much 'inner glow' that gives me to know that we have helped you recover what may have seemed a lost cause.
Well done!
Now you can spend the next month trying to figure out how to get things to work 'properly' on the bloody thing..... (i.e. guess what I've been trying to figure out for the last month: Bluetooth, WiFi, ActiveShyte, installing programs, discovering what a 'uni' is, what 'BT' is blah blah blah.... )

Instaead of Hi I say you are great people
So the case is... I just need to have working Qtek 1010 with SOME additional soft on it inside a ROM...
I've read many pages in this forum and I'm able to find too many ways to change my ROM. I'm totaly confused.
I work for extremaly big worldwide company and they gave me q Qtek, told me to use it, gave me one simple application and web link... so I do.
But the Qtek is much powerfull than that so I need to flash my ROM.
Now comes a question: where can I find one document how to prepare for it, what tools do I need, how to do it... I know after some tries I will be confident enough to do such stuff easlily, my problem is I have only one try, they will make me w trouble if I screw my company recource.
I understand you had milion similar questions like that. Basicly I need help how to flash so I can be sure 100% not less that I can recover in case of trouble. I hope you understand I'm afraid to do it because lack of experience and you are able to tell me if I should try to flash...
or maybe it's better for me to ask my boss to by me a 512 MB SD and install all additional soft on it and stop worring about memory?
I'd appreciate any opinion... you are the best and I'm just new to this bussines...
Get an sd card, backup existing rom to sd card, very easy to do by bootloader method. Enter bootloader by holding down power while inserting stylus in the reset hole on the bottom left of pda then press top right function key, then choose ce to sd. Once you have done this you can check if it has in fact backed up your rom by putting sd card in the pda, enter bootloader, it will then give the option to program the rom, just remove the card and push the reset with stylus again, the other method to check a working backup is to put the sd card in the pda, the pda will ask to format it, say no and remove it. Once you have a backup you can either use xdatools to copy it to your pc or keep it in a safe place, no more files must be written to this card otherwise it will be rendered useless, if you wish to reuse the card sometime it will need formatting. Once you have your backup, go to www.yorch.net, cook yourself a rom and download it in the exe format, this will do a normal install from your pc while connected to pda via activesync, if it messes up you always have your backup. Once you become more proficient at using xdatools you might wish to try out lots of different roms until you are happy with the result, you can go on to sd card flashing which is a much better way of programming rom and much less prone to error because it doesnt rely on a pc connection. I would advise you to leave the radio stack alone, if you can make and receive call ok leave it alone. Have a thorough look around the forum before proceeding. Its good fun to program your pda and you can make it a much better tool, but make sure you always have a way out if things go wrong.
www.yorch.net not working... is there a place like that?
Hi!
I read the above post, one of the clearest here, and I almost got the confidence to finally do this ROM update...
But:
1) Can't find the www.yorch.net website where I could "cook myself a rom and dowload it in a .exe format"
2)It's still not very clear to me what exactly cooking a ROM means: it concerns the OS (the version 1.53, 1.72 type of stuff), the extended ROM (the default programs u get starting after and hard reset like the SW for the camera etc) or both?
Thanks!!!
Chris
Another ROM Kitchen
Try the following ROM Kitchen http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
I noticed that you have the XDAII. Now, someone please correct me if I'm wrong but the directions above and the ROM kitchens are all for the XDA I or Wallaby version.

Chris,
Those Roms are made for XDA1 beware it's not made for the device you have!!!!!!
What's the kitchen for XDA II
THANK YOU!
I was starting on the wrong foot... :-( :?
Anyway a couple of more question:
1) Is there a place like that for XDA II Kitchen? Is my undestanding of what a kitchen is correct?
2) The process for ROM backup outlined above, is still correct for XDA II?
Thanks!
Chris
I'm in the same boat as you CChris. I've been diligently a daily searching through the numerous topics on this site looking for similar information. I haven't found it yet - or at least nothing not-to-super-technical. I do know that you get to the bootloader by pressing the power button, reset button, and down on the toggle at the same time rather than the Wallaby way of the power and reset buttons only. It also seems that there are issues regarding 'country' and that it requires software to get around this. I haven't found the software yet - the links that I've seen all point to "itsme's" website which is currently down.
You can read the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9053&highlight=
Hopefully, someone with a lot more knowledge than me can go over updating the XDA II as clearly as cruisin-thru did for the XDA I.
The instructions on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaRomFlashing are correct.
Unfortunately, there was an issue where the wiki removed the ~ from itsme's website's address. It's been replaced with %7e and now the link works.
If you download a ROM from the same vendor as your device (e.g. Qtek ROM on Qtek device, iMate ROM on iMate device, etc.) you don't need to use these instructions, you can just install the ROM upgrade from your vendor.
If you want to use the latest ROM (from iMate) and your device isn't an iMate, you need to decrypt, change the "country" code, encrypt, and then run the upgrade.
You can also edit the extended ROM when flashing, but it's easier to use itsme's extRom Tools. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8422
You do NOT need to flash the ROM if you are not experiencing problems, or if you are experiencing problems which the new ROM also has (for example ugly cleartype fonts, which may be fixed without flashing). Flashing the ROM may void your warrantee. You will lose all your data when you upgrade, and you should not restore a backup, only your my documents folder.
If you are a newbie, it may be best not to flash your ROM. If you typed in itsme in google, you would have found his xs4all address as the third link, and would have quickly found out his site wasn't down at all, but the link was just wrong.
Just a warning: the things that could go wrong when flashing are potentially much worse than a wrong URL, and the answer to those problems won't be the third link in google.

Hello everyone!
Thanks to all the users and admins for this great forum. I've found a lot of useful tips here, like getting the Scandinavian letters to work, and I look forward to be a part of this community.
I've been using PDA's for quite a while but this is the first combined PDA/phone (unless you count smartphones, and a brief encouter with the Nokia 7710 which I hated )
My list of PDA's goes something like this: Palm M100, Palm 3C - a long pause without a PDA - got a M100 again - IPAQ 3850 - Pocket Loox 710 - XDA Exec
My list of phones would be about this: Nokia NMT 101, Nokia 1611, - Nokia 6110 - Nokia 7110 - Ericsson T65 - SE T68i - trial user for a nokia 7710 with TV - Motorola MPX220 - XDA Exec. Had some other phones too, but used them for a short while or bought them as spares.
I recently bought a used XDA Exec, the rom is 1.13.48 WWE which is ancient. The Exec seems very unresponsive and slow compared to any PDA I owned earlier also it seems prone to crash. I have some warranty left, so I'd prefer to keep an O2 ROM since then I'd have less to explain if I need to get this thing serviced.
I figured my best choise would be the "Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v1.30.162.exe" with a corporate install, since I'd rather be without the clutter as I wont use any O2 services.
A few questions:
1) My boot loader says "serial v1. 00" Should I upgrade it to 1.01? Any performace imrovements or less chance of bricking if I update it?
2) I downloaded the ROM from the O2 page, although I'm not in the UK nor do I have a O2 phone number. Is it safe for me two install the firmware or will I get a locked phone or country errors (got the fix for that just incase)?

1) For new ROM upgrade, bootloader v1.00 is good enough. Unless you have nothing better to do, you can play with v1.01
2) Those ROM you are talking about are grandfathers' time ROM. If you dare, try some of the ROMs cook by our fellow guys here.

In a ROM, besides the upgrading tools, the actual software is in 3 files
1. nk.nbf (M$ Part)
2. ms_.nbf (Extended ROM, sevice providers software), do not change this, just ignore by moving to another directory.
3. radio_.nbf (UMTS/3G/GSM part)
Steps,
1. Ensure your normal mode cable connected (not InfraRed) activesync works.
2. Backup you current Applications, Contacts with Outlook and whatever that is important to you!
3. You need to run/copy (exe type) or extract (zip/rar type). You will see a lot of files including the above 3 files.
4. You can upgrade all 3 or individually by moving any of the unwanted 3 files to another directory.
5. Set device to bootloader mode.
6. Use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (not ROMUpgradeUt.exe) to avoid country errors. Run it and just wait.
Splash screen (O2, Imate, Dopod, Qtek Logos) maybe the wrong one, but if you can live with it, it is ok. If you cannot, the is tools in this forum, use the search tool.
SIM locked is different thingy all together, have never tried unlocked tools. Use the search tool here for unlock software.
Good Luck
Thanks CWKJ for your feedback!
About the ROM, I know the one I'm thinking to upgrade to is almost a year old but as I said its mainly so that I don't get any warranty issues. I'm thinking that if I have to return the phone and it boots to a QTEK-splash screen then I would have a lot of explaining to do. The current ROM is just so slow that I can't live with it.
Once the warranty is over I'll gladly experiment some more. Especially if there are some nice crossbow components or wireless improvements.

Thanks for writing those steps to me. I did search thoroughly, and found many guides but yours is the most easy to follow. I'm having some problems with activesync on my laptop (although it works fine through bluetooth) so I guess I'll try it on my desktop, which probably is smarter anyway so that the computer does'nt go into standby or hibernate in the midst of the update
Edit: My phone is unlocked, I was just worried if the software update would lock it for me. But I guess its silly to worry in advance.
Notebook has battery and standby mode can be switch off. In case of power failure (it will be very unlucky if it happens), the upgrading still goes on. The same (continue upgrade with battery) will not happen for Desktop. LOL...
Make sure is cable connected USB activesync.
One more point to note, in Bootloader mode, it is connected, but you will not see the activesync in operation!
You can change the screen (but software version can be checked), you can flash back the old software.
You can use the free tools here to unlocked again.

How to update ROM on O2 Orbit-solution

All,
I've exchanged many emails with the imei.check.co.uk team and also met personally one of these guys in order to be able to upload a new ROM to my O2 Orbit. I had excatly the same problem as many of you with ending the uploding process with "model invalid id" error message.
Now I'm happy to say we do have a solution.
So if you want to change your ROM (any), simply follow these instructions:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Of course you can publish the instructions...
BUT PLEASE put a BIG WARNING! It will crash the phone in case you don't have a valid key file to perfom the last step: RUN THE UNLOCKER AGAIN AFTER THE ROM MODEL SWITCH TO RECOVER FROM THE DATA CRASHED MESSAGE!
Hello,
we found a way to flash ANY artemis roms in ANY Artemis look alike device (HTC Hero too).
Tools you need:
-hexworkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
-Any rom
-winzip or winrar
-http://www.imei-check.co.uk/C3v1Unlock.zip
a valid UNL file for your phone.
install hexworkshop and winzip/winrar
Take any rom for example: ART_HTCWWE_11240501_026790_WWE_Ship.exe
in explorer, right click on it and select "Extract files..."
Now it will unpack all the files
You'll have now "HTCWWE_shipsigned.nbh"
right click on it and Click "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
You'll see on the 5th row ARTE10000
Make it ARTE***** and save file
Now right click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
Search for word password.it will find it at 0x3E0B0 after password replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" and save the .exe file
Now connect the phone to the pc (normal way). run the C3v1Unlock.exe
when is asking for UNL file, disconect the phone from pc, press cancel, and
close the unlocker.
Now connect the phone back to the pc (in this mode it is) and run the
ROMUpdateUtility.exe
Now follow the instructions as the upgrade it will work.
After upgrade done, run the unlocker again and this time select the correct UNLfile.
Task Done.
C3 after flashing with any WIFI roms it will STILL not have WIFI!!!
Regards,
IMEI-CHECK Team

Cheers, Martin
YESS, I have changed my GER rom to new HTC official ENG Rom, you are the best!!!!!! It's very simple to do...
yuppyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
the next step is.... backup the ROM I'm search ITA ROM form my HTC 3300.
see you later...
Good Discovery,
But the key is: We will have to pay 38USD for the "Proper UNL file" which is unique for every IMEI. Is it right?
Yeah, Thanks mr. Martin who is from Imei-Check Team. But we are still looking for a free solution.
Regards!
Tamagochi,
yes, first you have to go to imei.check and pay for the unlocking program and the unique .unl file.
P.S. I'm not a member of imei.check, just had the same problem as many Orbit users here...you can find my previous thread.
Works great on all versions.
Great support from the boys from emeicheck
Question about directions
Okay, I'm gonna try this. Do I still follow these directions exactly even though I have already unlocked the CID?
Also, when you see the line "ARTE1000" do you actually replace the "1000" part with the little stars? Sorry, I'm really new at this!
Thanks!
Yes you must do it all.
HELP

hi, I've just used the last HTC offical Rom (see xda ftp site..) that include TomTOm + 1 city map
byebye
Hi, I used the ROM on the Wiki page Dopod|English|DOPOD001|ARTE1****|1.25.707.2 ??/??/0?|1.25.707.104|1.25.0000|02.69.90|4.1.13.30| [Download|ftp://xda:[email protected]/Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates/ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe]|[Thread|http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286639]
It worked like a charm. The only problem I had was that when the Orbit re-booted after the process finished, it didn't seem to detect the sylus. I just waited five minutes and then it worked. Guess it was still getting settled in with it's new ROM. I don't know where I had the TomTom before I started the update, but it installed the German maps which were there before but as a bonus it gave me a English speaking voice which I didn't have before. It came with a German voice and I couldn't change because I had not yet upgraded the memory and had no room. So, my update was super! The only little thing is that once I changed the screen color back to blue instead of that terrible green, I couldn't get the phone part (dialing pad) to change to blue. No biggie, as now I can use my Orbit in English. I can live with the green phone pad! Maybe somebody will tweak that one. Hope this wasn't more info than you needed....
KleinMouse,
the dialing pad can be easily changed as well....just do a little seach on this Artemis forum and you will find many links pointing to skins available for WM5 phone edition.
O2 Orbit ROM upgrade info
Hi,
my o2 orbit has ROM 1.25.206.2 WWE. I wanted to know if this is the latest ROM available for my phone. I got my phone 10 days ago and i gotta do a soft reset on it every day. I had the same kind of problems with o2 Atom. But most of the issues were corrected once the ROM was upgraded. Please someone update me on my situation. Thanks
I tried the steps but i'm always getting the ERROR[300] : INVALID UPDATE TOOL - This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please get newer Update Utility
Anyone who can help me here? I already tried different ROMs but always the same message
Did you unlock with imei-check? What is your model ID ARTExxxx ?
Yes i did. My Model ID is ARTE100
Hmm, but the steps described above are necessary to follow only if your model is Orbit (ARTE200). If you have HTC P3300 or Dopod p800W or Artemis or MDA compact 3, then you don't need to do it this way. The only thing you need to do is to unlock with Imei-check. If it still doesnt work, contact their help desk.
Ok i see, very strange indeed. I did the unlock with the stuff from Imei-check but i still get the message ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID . If i try the steps from your post #1 , i get the described error obove. I'll try to contact the guys from imei-check, i hope they can help me
Hi Kleine Maus, I read with great joy that you succeeded and I would like to feel the same way.... Could you kindly reply to me and give me some detailed instructions to follow? Hopefully this will work for my HTC P3300....Thanks in advance.... I really appreciate it. Best SiperX

HELP ME P3300 Does not upgrade to WM6 Cause Error 260

Hi to everybody.
I would want to set you a very strange problem that has happened to one friend of mine. He has installed the original ROM wm5 and he wants to pass to wm6, once connected the pda to the computer activesync unfortunately it tries to syncronize him but remains to syncronize to the endless (1° strangeness) one.
Later starting the official updating htc downloaded by the site, continuing with the instructions and reaching the prophetic moment in which the pda is disconnected by activesync and puts on in formality bootloader to adjourn from the prophetic error 260 that I have documented and I bring here you him:
Me being a little hacker and almost all knowing the methods to upgrade the ROM I have recommended him to try to put in formality bootloader to extract the content of the original file and to make to depart the file ROMUpdateUtility, but also them error 260. Not giving me for defeated I have tried the last method from me known, the updating from micro sd card.I have dictated him footstep footstep what had to do but not even this time of it to wanted to know to adjourn him (2° strangeness, doesn't know however if has correctly done all finding himself him in the Marche and me in Sicily ). I think that can treat more specifically him of the pc of the operating system, even if he has told me that it has the xp.
Now I put me in your hands, aspect suggestions on as to resolve.
I thank you in advance
And excuse me for mine bad bad..... English
To get your P3300 back to live
Don't worry if things goes wrong sometimes.
1.What you can do is maybe a good option if you have a P3300 without a
provider then you can better going
to the website of Htc register yourself (its free!) Then register
your model of your Htc Product.
Go to the Htc club. you will find your originale udate rom!!! This is also
to find it here.
2. There is a nother option.
copy your RUU_singned img to a sd card and put the sd card bac to
your P3300.
Start the bootloader by pressing the both key rec. and power
and hold em when your do a reset.
You will see a 3 color line on your screen then you will see
the install progres from your img.
wait and follow the instruction on that display.
I had also a problem a month ago but and this option by the sd card
did working fine for me.
Now I update the software and also the dial pad to vista look. That is
realy awesome!
It's working fine and do its job what this model has to do!
Succes and good luck!
PLEASE I need help! I have an htc p3300 and when I try to update it goes up to 3% and turns off. There isn't any rom that I haven't tried but noone worked . Is there anything I can do ? Thanks in advance
...

Wifi blocked by Orange (France)

Hi there.
I've just bought a Touch 3g with Orange in France, and even though the box has WiFi written all over it, it appears that I can only connect to Orange WiFi hubs. I have a different hub at home and would like to know whether I can unlock the WiFi function so that it is free to work with any WiFi connection.
I've had a look on here and can't find the answer to my question. I apologise in advance if I've missed the thread somewhere.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
PS - As someone new to this geek lark, I'd also be interested in knowing what programs I really ought to install onto the phone. You're top 5 programmes if you like.
The orange branded phones (if they are the same as the uk ones) have the unique manager not the standard wifi one. So even if you have an orange wifi hub you still don't get a wifi connection (at least not one you can do anything useful with)
Unique is a wierd orange version of voip.
The only way of changing it (i think) would be to flash a new rom to the phone.
Hi,
I got a French Orange phone too that I have flashed to non-Orange ROM, so Wifi works OK.
For programs I would recommend SBP Mobile Shell to replace Touch Flo, and TrackMe to have fun with the GPS ( I find it awesome).
Bonne chance
TrackMe does not work on my Jade (.net 3.5 installed), but I can recommend GPS Cycle Computer as well. Supports a lot of data formats, check the link or the xda-dev-thread for more information.
Thanks very much for all your help. I'll have a look at flashing the ROM and will give that a go.
Is flashing Rom a particularly complicated or potentially phone breaking experience? It's my wife's new phone, and I don't want to live with an angry woman whose phone no longer works

TrackMe does not work on my Jade (.net 3.5 installed), but I can recommend GPS Cycle Computer as well. Supports a lot of data formats, check the link or the xda-dev-thread for more information.

Did you install SQL Compact framework as well ?

Thanks very much for all your help. I'll have a look at flashing the ROM and will give that a go.

No it's not complicated ; yes is very much potentially phone breaking
FYI I flashed HardSPLv3 on my phone (see Jade ROM forum) , downloaded the kitchen (idem), built a ROM using htcrt (in the kitchen) and the OS.nb found here http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&ref=20&cat=220&id=18955, and flashed it. And tada, a stock french phone with wifi access.
Your SPL/ROM will degrade from 1.7 to 1.4 though.
OK. Thanks Gomi. I'll have a look and see if I really want to risk it or not.
Hello @ll.
I have a french Orange Jade too.
The UMA radio ROM make me sick !
But for me, the HardSPL does not work... The RUU progressbar still blocked at 0%.
fyi : I have the SPL 1.71.000 version.
Concerning the HardSPL, i'm not using the original exe, because of the unavailablity of the "server". I use an extracted nbh file of the HardSPLV3.
Any idee ?
fyi : because of specifity of the RUU used to flash the HardSPL, you can not use an another RUU to flash it.
With luck, the HardSPL setup exe have found the server, and now, all is ok !
Hi mate and welcome to the slippery slope. I only have Dad to convert now...
There may be another way to prevent the Orange rubbish crippling your phone - when you do a hard reset your phone will give you three seconds after the first boot-up before it begins to customise the ROM with all the operator-specific stuff. If you do a soft reset within those three seconds you prevent the customisation. If the crippled WiFi is part of this customisation then you'll end up with the default Windows Mobile WiFi manager. This trick used to work on my Universal and my Elf. You can experiment with many hard resets until you get it right.
Having created a vanilla Windows Mobile system you may need to fanny around unlocking the extended ROM and cherry-picking the customisations that you do want (such as the GPRS connection data) but this effort might be worth it to have an unbranded phone.
Flashing a new ROM will almost certainly invalidate your warranty.
(Oh, and a hard reset will wipe off all your data of course.)
Thanks SiliconS.
Have tried that and I don't get the 3 second warning. I just get a message saying that this will wipe the phone (hard reset) and asks me to press 'enter' to continue (which I obviously do). It then tells me:
Format FAT partition
FAT partition complete
before carrying on with all the Orange stuff. Have tried randomly pressing soft reset at various times, and all this does is turn the phone off...
Thanks anyway though.
That's weird. In that case Orange must have embedded their rubbish within the fundamental ROM rather than the extended ROM like everybody else does.
Flashing a completely new ROM may be your only hope, Luke. HTC have released an official ROM for the Jade that surely wouldn't invalidate your warranty...

I think an official ROM update could be the way forward yeah. I'll have a look this weekend maybe.
for the benefit of people who may be subscribed to this thread, I think I have found a fix for the orange rom using data connection instead of wifi, read on here:-

post back to that thread if it works for you!
