Hi,
I have been trying all day to find a plain and simple calculator. Something like gCalc (link below) but with bigger buttons so one can use it with the fingers. I even tried to make a skin for gCalc but it's got some limitations. I don't want nothing more than the basic numbers and these symbols: "+" , "-" , "÷" , "×" and ".".
There are lots of calculators out there, free and commercial but I think that they all waste a lot of space that could be used to make finger-friendly buttons. Also many are scientific calculators which I don't need.
I know almost nothing about programming so doing one from scratch is out of the question for me but if someone knows about a good one and could point it out I would be very grateful. Here is the skin I was trying to make for gCalc.

Hey, I thought that exact same thing, i started creating one, but never finished it, I will go back to it tonight and see how far i can get.
its real ugly but the buttons are evenly sized filling all but a small number display along the top of the screen.
what shape is your screen you want to use it on?
This one is GOOD!
http://www.omegaone.com/calc/ppc/default.htm
I believe there was a "lite" version given away for free by Microsoft when joining some online community for WindowsMobile. Can't find it anymore though.
Here it is, its really simple. and currently only working in portrait mode, will update that very soon
I too have written a calculator that's large and finger friendly. It's got a black theme to go with the black themes that is all the rage these days Works in both portrait and landscape. Requires .NET 2.0 CF because I'm a lazy guy who doesn't want to code in C++
Just what I needed!
Thank you guys! These are perfect. I installed both and will be testing them at work. Both are good and simple. My screen is 240 x 320 and I'd like to use it on portrait mostly. Both of yours work on portrait actually. If you want to get creative you could work on the skins. Making the buttons look raised would be nice. Just a suggestion.

I meant it only works on portrait , jeez I was tired
That's Okay
No problem. It's just what I need.
I have been trying to work on something that will enable some sort of Haptic feed back on my XV6800. The Haptic feed back is a feature that enables vibration to the screen when you press on the screen. Such as the Voyager.
I dont intend to try and make this just to work with the XV6800 but for ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices and if it can others too.
There is a feature on my phone and on many others that allows our phones to play a sound when the screen is taped. I thought of an idea of why not replace the sound with vibration?
There is already a CAB out there that changes the dial tone into a vibration feedback ( when you press the dial buttons ) but it doesnt do much for the rest of the applications or screen.
So far I have been working on this for a couple of days but havent had much time to put much effort into it.
I was hoping that some developers / hackers can help out the cause and help develope or create a feature that enables this on ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices.
If I do find a way to do this I'll post my findings here, but any help to make this a reality would be gladly appreciated.
I was just reading about this very thing HERE: http://www.immersion.com/vt/haptics-for-mobile.php
I was wondering if somebody was going to give it a try. Good luck with it, BOO
it has already been done, and someone posted it up on these forums a while ago, probably buried extremely deeply by now... i forgot the name but i just know it's out there and although it worked, i quickly worried about battery life/hardware issues, so i uninstalled. i'll try to find it for you

Thank you. I am hoping that we can get this done.
I mean we are constantly trying to make our touch screen devices finger friendly. We enlarge buttons, the creation of Touch FLO and the Cube, enlarging menus and so on.
My theory is why not combine all these I deas with Haptic feedback and make it even more finger friendly and try to limit the use of the stylus. If made possible this would be able to work on any HTC Touch screen device or any WM Touch screen device out there.
This would also help users that have a hard time inputing anything into their phone. For example, some one trying to make a text message through t9 or even less then that just pressing on the screen to access a short cut with out having to pound their touch screen until it inputs that they are trying to press. This would help with that because it will acknowledge the input that was made.
Just an Idea

If this has been made possible for the entire touch screen and all applications including the standard OS please inform me of this find. I would gladly appreciate it.
yeah it was an application that ran in the background (maybe as a service, i don't remember), but every single tap created a vibrate feedback. argh i just looked around for it and i have no idea where to find it. it was in some thread, someone's reply had the app attached to it. something about how he knew someone who was working on it, and waited for that person's permission to post the app here on xda-dev. sigh.

Interesting. If it has been done already I wonder if we can replicate it and put it on this thread. That is if you dont find the link to the page or the program it self.

Thanks this is a good find.
Ill see if i can make it available using another method. Because they reported that it worked on every other tap of the screen and that it runs the battery down faster too.
What I might try to do is have mine work but have the option to disable it ( like the way you do when you disable screen tap sounds) to save battery power.

True like u said, i've tried it 2, but it do not respond to every fingertouch, if u can figur a way for an app that will respond 2 every touch even the small ones (where u don'nt need 2 hold for a sek before it regonise and verb.).. that will be really great

So far I have planned some steps on ways to do it through the registry but it is not perfect. I am not an expert programmer but I can give it a shot, but it might take a while since I am not as great as the experts here in XDA.
But I'll do what I can. If I do find a solution I will post it here, but any help to make this project possible would be great.
I would be happy if my phone would just vibrate on keyboard input.
I am running this older vibro cab. Works very well however...
The vibration lasts aslong as your finger has contact on the screen. It would be better if it just gave a quick blip of vibro each touch maybe?
When you slide a cube etc it virbos the whole movement.

Do you happen to have the CAB with you? Maybe I can find a way to change the effect this program does when you press the screen and lower the vibration feed back.
If I can do that then I can maybe create some registry settings to make the same effect but just replacing the sound that is emulated when you tap the screen. That way you can disable it or enable it when you want it. ( In case you need to save battery or something )
The length of the vibration should be shorter, other than that it's a really good tool.
wow i must be stupid. i just posted a thread about this yesterday. anyway, it'd be cool if we could figure out a way to just incorporate it into the registry, probly wouldn't use as much battary and stuff then.
This has been done already on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354890&page=2. On the second page, Kpyto posted a download link for it. I haven't tested it yet though so I can't tell you how well it works.
hows this coming along?
I tried the VOA program mentioned above, but i don't really like it - it's simply annoying by vibrating all the time when scrolling trough lists, or attempting to bring up a tap-and-hold context menu. Not to mention additional battery drain caused by the motor running for such long periods of time.
For me, much better screen tap confirmation is a very short vibra pulse - i often use Vibrate(50) as a confirmation in my mortscripts. That's only 50 milliseconds, but it' enough to be clearly felt, and since the motor is powered only for such short time, it causes almost no additional battery drain. I'd really love to see an application creating such confirmation instead of the screen tap sound.
I'd just like it to have customizable vibration time - since the minimal time needed to make vibration even noticeable can probably vary from device to device, and play nice with fTouchFlo - since both capture touchscreen events there are probably possible conflicts.
Good luck with the development. I hope you'll be able to realize this great idea

Lets hope some one makes this. isn't there anyone on these forums with great programing skills?
I am using the "ideas" section in the GSensor Apps thread as a guideline to write useful/useless applications. Instead of creating a thread for each small program I intend to reference the original idea/request here and display the application. Safes me from having to open a different thread
So here is the first one, based on this idea: Plane
Simple graphics, if you have better pictures, share them with me. I need top, bottom and side view of the plane. I can also use better sound files, I did not really look around for the best ones. And as usually improvements will be done and brought back here.
First improvement: used F22 picture from surur (see post below)
Usage: self-explaining
AH64d Lander
An other "Lunar Lander" clone, based on Apache Lander from the iPhone. Somebody did request this a while ago, so here is version 1, using C# and OpenGLES.
To start after a crash/landing, use options and the level you want to play. I fear however that the "Hard" level is almost impossible to play.
Options also allow you to use sound.
10-Sep-08: Fixed sound
Paper Airplane
A concept only application for the moment, but the goal is to replace the above "Airplane" with this OpenGL based application. For the moment it is only possible to look at the plane, sort of like a virtual hologram.
Usage:
Hold your PDA in landscape and turn it slowly around, tilting it over your head. You will be able to look at this paper plane from all sides.
Diamond Beer V2
A drinking tool, probably last update for a while.
Great idea! Looking forward to all the useful apps going to be posted here
Keep'em coming!
Thanx!

great idea for the app list but..... why don't you make it on the wiki??
in this way also other peoples can add/update other sw& versions, and we will never stressed to follow day x day all the topics apps.
Also, i've read about the "cubes"
If you can do something with cubes, why don't do it for "Cubes app" like the iphone one?

Fixed the sound and uploaded the new version.
As for Airplane it is based on a request from somebody to have the plane. I did not fulfil his request yet completely. Next version will change sounds when you "dive" the plane or change directions abruptly.
The main goal is to demo that you can turn your PDA (in landscape mode) around the axis and the plane will show different sides.
Also the sound will only play as long as you move the plane in the air.
I guess it is great if you want to fly a toy plane anywhere you like, but don't want to drag it around
If you don't like to play with toy planes, it is useless indeed, but hey who says that all programs here need to be useful for everybody
Hi all...
Not too sure how popular this would be, but today whilst browsing on my Diamond, I started thinking that it might be nice to be able to move the page around just by tilting or jerking the device in the desired direction.
Obviously, it would be inconvenient for this feature to be active all the time, so it would be nice to be able to activate it by maybe moving the device in a particular way, or pressing a hotkey.
Scrolling with your finger is fine and everything, but it's often an inexact science, whereas a careful tilt with a smooth scroll could move the page to exactly where you want it to be.
I started looking at the SDK, but I haven't had the time to really get into it thus far. If nobody thinks this is a good idea, I might just try it out myself if I have the time.
Comments/ideas/flames welcome

It does not come with the latest .NET!
The "honeycomb" start menu is a display of idiocy gone rampant
No apparent way of altering icon-size
send to top - send down only options for arranging icons
send down only sends to where icon used to be
send to top sends ALL the way - an item in a folder is not sent to top of folder but to the very top!
Too big icons, with any "not small" amount of apps, prepare for thumb-sore, coz you'll be spending a LOT of time scrolling to get to something at the bottom
Titanium - it's ugly, and when you go to Today->Elements, it has no configuration options, honestly I couldn't be bothered to check it out further.
HTC aren't too bright either....
Thank God for
wkTask (which btw causes the honey-comb to stop working after some time - who cares?)
iPhonetoday - here's the deal: Apple has a good UI idea - steal it! But noooo we need to do our own stuff - HTC Sense (is there any) - Titanium (I had one look at it - it is ugly)
HD Tweak - fixing the poo
TouchPal - now THAT's how you go about making a keyboard , HTC I'm looking at you, MS you're not even in the class!
Opera, a decent browser YAH, too bad that HTC bungles it by integrating it an idiotic way.
OPERA default reg - one man hero fixes BigCorps poo
this list needs to be longer, I am just too tired from spending a whole day upgrading and the subsequent puking and the ongoing "get stuff back to sanity" procedure
Amazing that one-man armies like the guys who did most of this stuff, individually are brighter, smarter and more clever than the combined MS collective or the drones at HTC

Go somewhere else to troll.
then stick with 6.1
I'm not trolling - and if you think it is trolling, why do you repeat the whole shebang?
And no I wont stick with 6.1, why should i? I never said 6.1 was better than 6.5. In fact I think that 6.1 is crappier than 6.5.
IT JUST SO HAPPENS that I am the owner of a Topaz, I had to go windows mobile due to Exchange at work.
Gotta say this though - Battery-life with 6.5 is amazing COMPARED to 6.1. It's right up there where it is supposed to be.

Yes. He's right and not trolling. I'm disappointed with thw new official rom too and after a day i flashed a cooked rom.

to be honest i think i am the only person here who actually likes the windows default one lol
i cant get the weather app to work on it though, so i need to play around
and i have found that 6.5 is faster than 6.1 by a good 10% if not more, also my battery life easily lasts a day, where as before it would make it just to the end of my working day rather than my whole day
but yeah the honey comb, move to very top is a bit smegged, as i would prefere to place things where i wanted them,

My battery life certainly feels much better. I've been messing about with WM 6.5 for about an hour. In the past, my battery would have taken a hammering. So far, it's at 80%!! That's *way* better.
I like it - it's so much more responsive. Okay, so it's not a radical change and there are still far too many "non-touch-screened" applications in there that means you still need to get the stylus out.
But for nothing, I'm happy - so far!
Cheers, Rob.

Please give us your feedback
What I really meant is this:
The user interface in WM is OOOOOOOLD - anyone who has seen an iPhone or and Android phone knows this.
MS knows this
HTC knows this (and have jumped the Android Bandwaggon)
WM 6.5 is a joke, because it tries to convey the idea that WM is ALSO about new intuitive fingerfriendly interfaces - and what does it have to show for it? Well 'honeycomb' which might be a nice idea, only it's implemented so stupidly that it is a joke.
Titanium also - is a joke. Eyecandy with no real benefit in my opinion. And btw. it's no candy to my eyes - more like cabbage
Now some may like HTC Tou... ooops its HTC Sense now - and it is better in my opinion than titanium, but it's just not good enough.
Actually my boss explained it to me this way:
Acebone, you see the diamond2 as a computer that can also make calls, but most people see it as a phone that can also do documents and calendar
He might be right, I just don't think that WM6.5 or Sense is good enough, that's why I spend ours installing and configuring wkTask, iPhone Today, TouchPad (commercial) etc...
With these often FREE and often ONE-MAN produced tools, I am able to put together a user-interface that is
Easier to navigate
Requires fewer clicks
Takes up less memory
Reacts more quickly with less errors
the thing here is yeah its not finger freindly as android of iphone, however it has a huge range of apps behind it which have been working for ages and will still work on for a while yet, the os is old however it is that great to adapt, there are that many different type of ui that can be installed over the top, to make it suitable for people that want things their own way, android, is great, however after using it more any lenght of time, it becomes a bore, its only really a gimick rather than a work phone, which is what windows has always been aimed at,
iphone, and android are only half a phone, and expect users to buy the features that they want the phone to do, where as with windows you get a working phone, from the time, you turn it on
WM 6.5 doesn't work with old software?
Unless I have some odd problem, my Touch Diamond 2 on which i just reflashed ROM with WM 6.5 is not recognizing the entire screen in some software. It seems like the ssoftware screen goes below the bottom of the physical screen.
Also, the TouchFlo appears to be inhibiting the touch features of screen in expand/contract +/- menus.
- Email when you choose folder the expand/contract +/- menus don't respond with one press, but require a sustained hold before they expand/contract.
Some software is is not happy in WM 6.5:
- PHM RegEdit is not happy in WM 6.5 I have to hold registry keys for long time to select them and the + - to expand/collapse keys aren't working properly. I have to hold, then i have to tap the menu bar on bottom to get them to expand/collapse. Really weird. Also, the input keyboard also needs to be held long time to popup. It seems like the ssoftware screen goes below the bottom of the physical screen. Very strange.
- I noticed similar issues in WM 6.5 with Advanced Configuration Tool by Julien Schapman. It seems like the ssoftware screen goes below the bottom of the physical screen. Selecting +/- menus requires sustained selection of folder, then i have to tap the menu bar on bottom to get them to expand/collapse. Really weird.
I wonder if these are .NET issues with older software or something like that?
Also, is anyone else noticing the new TouchFlow finger swipe direction is reversed from before? For example, in Email and PIE you have to swipe finger down to make page scroll up. Before you swiped finger up to make page scroll up! its different and is taking some getting used to. Its counterintuitive!
I am too am seriously thnking of going back to 6.1 .. now if I can just figure out how to do that ..... (anyone?)
sounds like an issue to me with the software, try and reflash it, im not getting any of those issue, but i haven't used touch flo/sense for that long
it was something I installed
I did some experimenting adding software one at a time after fresh ROM flash.
Looks like "Zoom Bar & Scroll" is the culprit ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518367
Too bad bc this was a great little tool .. it worked beautifully in WM 6.1. BUt in 6.5 it screws up +/- expand collapse of menus (eg in Email, or PHM Regedit, etc) and also appears to reverse the scroll inside PIE, Email, and other windows.
I'll leave the same message on the Zoom Bar & Scroll thread to let the developer know.
6.1
if you are wanting to go back to 6.1 i still have the stock rom saved on my hard drive incase i needed it
