I have an O2 xda mini S. Just put a mini SD card into it yesterday. Now Media Player keeps popping up asking if it should scan the card for files. I've said yes once, but it keeps asking the same question! The question seems only to be asked after I resume from 'off'. help please! How can I stop this without taking the card out?
Seems to be a problem with certain roms. I have no problems with my qtek with media player and minisd card. did hear it was a problem with some earlier models. so maybe a rom upgrade will cure your problem.
Been on to the O2 site. Seems I'm running their latest ROM
hmmm need to know if other mini s have this problem. so calling all mini s owners anyone else have this problem??
you may need to do new post calling mini s owners
I have this problem too, with a new UK T-Mobile MDA Vario (latest release ROM). Exactly the same symptoms, Media Player pops up after I wake the device up from the power-save sleep mode with a box saying that a new memory card has been inserted and do I want to scan it for files. It's a brand new (empty) Sandisk 2Gb Mini SD card. This doesn't happen after every power-on, and subjectively I think it seems most likely to occur when the device has been dormant for a little while.

Hi all,
I bought my Vario from T-Mobile with Co-Pilot which came on a 256mb mini-sd card. I then bought a 2GB Mini-sd card to swap into the phone for storage. This card worked for a short while - 1 day then stopped showing in file explorer etc. It also wouldn't show when using a card adapter on the pc whereas it had been working. I sent it back to where I bought it from and received a replacement. This card then did the same, worked fine for a day on both pc and in the phone then stopped being found by both. Could my phone be zapping the cards? I've just retried the original 256mb card and that is failing now too.
Disapearing minSD-card
Hi,
I've got the same, but it is gone since I updated the ROM. Maybe it is worth a try!
Best regards, Sebastian
Hi,
What Rom are you on? I'm on the I-Mate one at the moment, just downloaded the new T-Mobile AKU2 one today. Will try that one later I think. Thanks.
Snoop.
Well I updated the ROM to the new T-Mobile AKU2 one and my storage card now works fine. I formated it as FAT to make sure and so far, all is looking good. It also seems a bit quicker that when I had the I-Mate ROM loaded.
Snoop.
my 1gb card does this quite often too, if i push it in and out 10/15 times it seems to reconise it again, i gave it a good blow out with an airline and it was better for a while
Yeah I tried that too. Didn't work for me. It also wasn't working in the card reader on the pc so I suspected the phone was corrupting the card. Happened to 3 different cards. I was loathed to take it out of the phone for fear of it not working when I put it back in. Had it in and out now and works every time.
Seems to be quite common (might go as far as to say everyone will have this problem at one point or another). I noticed it first, when I pulled out the mini SD to show to a buddy what it looked like. When I put it back, it wouldn't show on my today-screen monitor. I pulled it out, put it back in a lot of times and after a while it came back.
Never ever had this problem with the S100, so this must just be a typical problem for the 9100. I too have a 2gig sandisk.
It could also be a design flaw with mini SD -cards, if you experience the same problem with memory card readers.
-JJ
Me too!
I also had this problem. I had 2 1 gig mini-SD cards, one is now dead and the other started exhibiting the same problems on my Vario. Hopefully the new UK rom I updated it to will have fixed these probs.
I did some searching, but couldn't find a related post, so here goes ...
I have started to have an issue where I lose connectivity to my storage card ... my wizard just simply stops recognizing the card. Ejecting and re-inserting the card has mixed results, but after enough attempts it finally starts recognizing the card again.
It had worked fine for several months and now it is fairly regular problem. Is anyone else having this issue?
Cingular 8125
TopRam 2GB miniSD
My wizard is certainly passed warranty and all the ejecting/inserting can't be a good thing for the phone. Thought I would check with the community before purchasing a different miniSD to determine if the problem lies there.
Thoughts?
Thanks, Greg
I had this problem with the cheap miniSD card I bought, I replaced it for a Sandisk one, and the problem went away.
Have you tried the card in a computer via card reader?
Thanks for the confirmation ... I will pursue a new miniSD.
I ad tried it in a card reader awhile back and it worked fine. Maybe I will try a more exhaustive test to see if I can reproduce.
Thanks again, G
i am having the same problem with my 2gb sandisk. sometimes it doesnt recognize it and i have to eject/reinsert the card again. its a pain in the ass!
i have this problem once every month and it makes me feel like tossing my phone against the wall. just when u break into the phone and like it, everything ****s up.
today, just today, my memory card stops working, nothing will read the card anymore.
brand doesn't mean anything, my card was as 2gb Sandisk.
WOW .. maybe this is more of an issue than I suspected. What could be causing this issue ...
- Obviously it could be a wizard hardware issue, although I would suspect that lots of people would be having the problem.
- Could be a card problem, either lemons or specific brands/sizes
- Could it be ROM related?
- Other possible causes?
Maybe we need to gather some information on those that are having the problem.
My data is as follows:
- Cingular 8125
- TopRam 2GB miniSD
- Submitter 2.24 ROM
ROM Version 2.24.10.1 WWE
Radio Version 02.25.11
Protocol Version 4.1.13.12
ExtROM Version 2.25.11.102
I get this problem with my 2GB Sandisk as well.
It's starting to look like a brand issue isn't it?
I'm not sure about brand, i've looked around and this happens for every brand.
my Rom is a Tmo 2.17
and im usig a 8125 with tmo-rom
i think this is a hardware issue.
I have the same issue. Brand new MDA Vario and cheap 2GB card.
It usually works if I stick the card in the PC card reader then back in the Vario again, but I shouldn't really have to keep doing that.
I'm not sure what the deal is with these MiniSD's, but maybe they're just not ready for prime time. I recently purchased two 2gb Kingstons and one was bad, not being recognized by two computers, two card readers, nor the MDA. The second was received and ditto, same problem. Keep in mind that the first card was okay and has worked without issues.
I then called Newegg, attentive as always, and they agreed to refund the Kingston and take my order for a Transcend, which was $15 cheaper anyway. The Transcend worked fine.
This trouble is odd because Kingston is a major supplier of memory modules, and I've installed their RAM in a number of computers, including this one, with no problems. I'm obviously not the only one who's experienced problems with these tiny MiniSD's, and I suspect maybe they've overdone the size-reduction trend to a point where reliability is jeoporized. Or, perhaps it is just the 2gb modules. I have two Ridata 1gb MiniSD's, the first I bought for the MDA, and they have performed flawlessly.
My 1GB sandisk works 100% fine never fails at all until i remove it.
I then have to insert it 5-10 times to get it recognised again by the wizard.
I'm having a somewhat similar problem
I use my XDAII mini as an ebook reader on the train, which is fantastic, but storing the ebooks on the storage card is all but useless. I'll get x number of pages into the book, then Microsoft reader will tell me that the book is no longer readable. I can still access the storage card fine, but the only way to continue reading the ebook is to move the ebook file from the storage card to the main memory, which sucks.
Anyone else have similar problems, or know a solution?
Cheers
Chris.
Ok, I don't know what is going on but my device pics up and uses my storage card fine. However, my WMP wont' read the card and when I try to "update" the library with update library function it goes almost the whole way and gets stuck when it says adding files.
Anyone have this problem??/
errrrrrr
do you guys use a better player with sync capabilities and what have you? thanks in advance.
Go to your storage card. delete the folder MSMETADATA and then load WMP and try to update the library again. It should work now.
wow, you are my genius for the day... THANKS...
whoahooo... I have another question but I am going to post the thread over here. I know the rules are a bit different but I love my music and I am trying to set up the sync for this phone... could I pm you or link you to the other thread I am starting...
@rene_canlas: this one is bugging me as well! i'll give it a shot the next time WMP10 doesn't see my card again [just did a hard reset and formatted my microSD cause of this].

yea, why does it do this... how does this happen?
I've owned 3 WM5 PPCs before the TyTN and didn't encounter this problem
--
dopod 838 + 1Gb SanDisk miniSD = no problem
hp iPAQ rw6828 + 1Gb SanDisk miniSD = no problem
O2 XDA Exec + 4Gb Transcend SD = no problem
HTC TyTN + 1Gb Transcend microSD = problem
--
I was starting to think that maybe my microSD card was defective but I guess I'm not the only one.

This is microSD card issue.
I had HTC Apache (PPC6700) with miniSD - no problem
I had Hermes with microSD 1GB SanDisk - problem
I have Hermes with microSD 2GB SanDisk - problem
AFAIR problem is with microSD card and it's Digital Rights Management.
My problem happens when I switch SimCards, new SIM card and WMP does not see nothing on microSD.
Similar problem I had with coping data (GPS maps) via card reader/writer - problems accured, via ActiveSync - no problem. Difference was in speed.
I have this problem quite frequently every week or so, really annoying. Using 2GB Sandisk card.
my TyTN had this problem, after browsing the memory card, the "MSMETADATA " folder was 32gb big...on a 2GB card? WTF????
the files inside the folder had foreign symbols on and stuff...and wouldnt delete with the normal "press the "delete" key button.."
i couldnt delete it, so i have to copy everyhting to computer, and then format the card! and after then its worked fine
bit crazy! also other media players struggled to add media files and the phone locked up...
So is it something wrong with the TyTN or is there something wrong with microSD cards in general
I had a similar problem; I put the MicroSD card in Windows and ran chkdsk /r on the MicroSD card which then said it found files, converted the lost chains to files. I then was able to delete the new "lost chains" and the original folder. I also have the SanDisk 1gb/2gb cards. I guess sometimes the card gets sort of dislodged maybe and that is what wacks it out?

I have had the same problem on my TyTN since June. The work about is only a temporary solution.
I contacted HTC Europe and they advised me that they were are aware of the problem and that it would be corrected in a future update. Have updated but still have the problem.
I have noticed that the file MSMETADATA is not present on the storage cards on the latest phones. So I will take mine in to be repaired.
I suggest you do the same.
I don't know this for a fact but i have read that it is a problem with sandisk cards only...anyone know if this is true. I had it and i have a 1gb sandisk.
I'm having problems with my SD 2gb card from SanDisk (made in China) , the data is corrupted . Just bought a Kingston 2gb, made in Taiwan, slightly thicker than de SanDisk (just the feeling I think) and hope that the problem stays away. Are there more people that have the same problem with de HTC P3600 (HTC Trinity, SPV M700) in combination with a sd mini card? I've send a mail to de customer service yesterday and received an automatic reply. Now it is waiting for an answer. I have the hope it is just a small parameter in the setting of the PDA. When I let the PDA go to standby itself after 2 minutes it seems to be OK for now at least. Please give me some reactions from P3600 owners! Look at this link for the same problems on the Artemis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285511
problem with mini SD
Hy
it seems that P3600 have several problem with mini SD.
first of this expencive pocket diamond does not like all kind fo mini SD..moreover i used a kingston 2GB and it was working well since 3 days ago...then BLACK OUT.
The pocket pc soes not see the mini sd anymore!!
Why? I really do not know, but i'm not the only one who is experienced in this beautiful situation!
HTC says that the problems with the artemis and the sd-card are depending on a software bug together with WM5, and they are working on it. I think, it is the same bug with the trinity
I have a microSD with miniSD Adapter, and is corrupted, and the size of corrupted data is increasing day after day ....
After few days I need format this f***ing card ..... I hope HTC fix this bug soon !!!!!!
Alex13
it happened to me couple of times with a trascend mini sd 2gb.
it really really sucks.
coming from a Mac only world sometime I feel throwing the trinity down a bridge is the best thing to do... I'm not used to crashes and corruption.
But hey, it's the only way to actually use skype when I'm around...
anyway, last week I've installed Trinity Hacks 0.2 a free app that modify the registry, one of the functions is to fix SD compatibility.
I didn't have problems since
This is what HTC told me:
Thanks for your email regarding your P3600. The SanDisk Ultra II 2gb mini SD card is not compatible with the device. Instead of an Ultra card you need a standard mini SD card with no more than 2GB.
I bought a Kingston 2GB and it's running a few days without any problem, keeped my fingers crossed while typing this!
I think I have the fix, instead of re-formatting the card connect the trinity (or data card) to your PC, make sure you can see hidden files and folders, search for a folder/directory starting "MSM". Delete this folder and all the files that have become an issue become unlocked.
Sorry if some one else has posted this fix, just saved myslef hours re-installing TomTom by doing this.
Hope this helps
Graham
First off...I really have searched and haven't found my exact issue. So...my husband is on his 3RD Imagio!!!! the first one started with the "A problem has occurred with audiomanager_eng.exe" 2 days after we got it!! so since tech support from Verizon & HTC couldn't help,Verizon exchanged it for another Imagio. The second Imagio went for about a week before the error and tech support(from Verizon AND HTC) suggested, before letting us fully explain, that we should do a hard reset;so we did that and it took all of a few hours before the error came back!!! Now we're on our 3rd Imagio and that error didn't come up at first but...music would only play for a few seconds before stopping until...I,just playing around, deleted the folder titled "ART" from within the Music folder on the SD card. that worked for 2 days and then tonight my husband calls me and tells me that not only is the music stopping but it's also coming up with the audiomanager_eng.exe error now!!! Oh,the SD card we had in the 2 Imagios before was 16GB and after tech support suggested we reformat it,it still had the error on both phones!! After we got the 3rd Imagio, and we had the same problem, both HTC and Verizon suddenly said "Try a smaller card" so we tried the 8GB we have and, like I said earlier,it worked for a few days;however, now not only is the music stopping but...the audiomanager_eng.exe error is back!!! WHAT THE HE**?!? What do we do? Can the Imagio not handle a 16GB card? That's not really the issue for my husband as he doesn't mind a smaller card if we could just get the music to play AND not have that error come up!! We also don't want to have to do another hard reset and my husband doesn't like Windows Media Player(tried using after suggested by tech support) because, while it plays the music(although only sporadically),it keeps saying "buffering" while trying to play a song!! I think both HTC and Verizon have their heads in the sand because both of their support said they had not heard of this issue when I first called!! If this helps, the ROM version is 1.08.605.11 and the ROM date is 09/05/09. PLEASE help!!!
Hi
The Imagio can handle not only 16GB SD cards, but 32GB cards as well (when they are available). I have an Imagio too and regularly use it for music and audio books, which approach 50MB in size each - without problems. Since you have not mentioned using 3rd party apps I'm assuming your using the built-in media player and are not using unsupported file types or codecs.
From your issues it sounds like the problem is related to either your SD card or audio files - or both, as that is more likely than the same issue happening repeatedly with 3 different Imagios running stock media player.
Try this:
Format your SD card as FAT32 (don't use Quick Format), this will mark any bad sectors on the card as unusable so files will not be stored in them.
Re-sync your audio files to the card from your original source.
For good measure, use a card reader and access the card from a computer. Use the computer disk management tools to run error checking on the card contents with the option set to automatically fix any errors found. This should catch any file corruption issues you may have with your media content.
Good luck!

You can always upgrade to the latest Rom v3.04. It is available from the support page on Verizons site which points you to the PCDPhones website.
