Cingular EDGE Proxy Settings BREAK Exchange-Activesync - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I purchased the Cingular 8125, which has edge. To acchieve the maximum speed with the edge connection you have to use the cingular proxy servers.
I WANT to use the proxy servers because my testing has given me an average of 300kbps down when I use the proxy vs. 96kbps without.
When I enable the proxy servers, I get a Support code: 0x80830003 from activesync. Microsoft's article (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830563 says its a problem with ISA, I don't use ISA, I think is just a problem with going through a proxy server....
Currently I don't have the server set up to use HTTPS it connects over HTTP.
Is this the problem? If I change to HTTPS, will it work? I actually though of the HTTPS while I was typing this... I will give it a shot, and let you all know how it goes.

I'm using Cingular's proxy and am having no problems with OTA-Activesync. Additionally, Push is working for me as well.
This is with the phone's default config. Now, what doesn't work for me is PC passthrough and WiFi connectivity, but I've got other threads out there for those issues.

how are you testing the speed?

Keep in mind you are not getting an exact connect speed what you are getting is an accelerated connection thru the proxy this can be seen the most if you stream media you will see the stream speed is considerably slower than the test speed.

Edge GPRS & WAP questions (cingular/K-Jam)

I've got a K-jam and I'm using Cingular. I've gotten the GPRS connection work via the WAP settings (i.e. wap.cingular - [email protected] - CINGULAR1), but I never could get the regular GPRS settings to work as a ISP connection (isp.cingular - etc.).
I'm wondering about speed. Will I be able to get EDGE level speeds via the WAP connection settings?
Has anyone else gotten Cingular's GPRS settings to work with the K-Jam/WM2005?
Thanks very much for any answers or advice you can provide!
same problem
I am having the same problem, not getting edge speeds using WAP signon, also How do I teather it to my laptop for internet connect anyone have any ideas either mac or pc... Thanks in advance!
K-Jam w/ WM5
Hey gang. I have a K-Jam on Cingular as well and have gotten GPRS to work like a champ. However, I would much rather have EDGE speeds. I have their PDA connect account and setup my default connection to wap.cingular with no username and password. I thought this was the settings for EDGE but my speeds are still GPRS. Any help?
if you have a newer rom you just have to do a reg hack to enable the edge icon. Edge is the same thing as GPRS, but it uses compression to get better speeds, it is more of a marketing tool. If you can recieve edge you will if you are in a area where is is not able it will switch to the little G g you arte seeing. Also make sure under advanced setting you click the use software compression box and not ip header or it will not connect. Also Wap is just a protocol like ftp or http, it is not a connection so you are still going to be using edge. It is actually really old technology but making a nice come back because of the need for a scaled down internet, for pda's like when dial up was the only option, as soon as 3g is widely available you will not see it anymore. this will put the edge for you and some other cool tweaks.
tweaks
not liking randomness, what other 'cool tweaks' does that do? Its a single item to enable the 'e' instead of 'g' when you have edge available, so I am not sure I want that unless the tweaks are enumerated...
On my 8125, IP header compression was ticked but not software compression for the WAP.CINGULAR apn settings. Can anyone confirm the correct compression settings to use on WAP.CINGULAR and whether ISP.CINGULAR is any different?

WiFi not connecting to web pages but will when using GPRS

When connecting thru WiFi, Yahoo does not connect I can get onto Google but cannot check email etc. Through GPRS have no problems with any pages. Have upped the power to best performance but still no luck.
Do you have proxy set in your GPRS connection? As this will interfere with your Wifi that will not use that proxy setting.

ICS & VPN with WM6

My searches on the web haven't yielded much help or information so I thought I would come to the experts...
I have a Treo 750 that I just "upgraded" to WM6 2 days ago. I noticed that DUN has gone away and was replaced by ICS. After configuring my laptop to use that instead of DUN I connected and was surfing the web. My problem now is VPN. I travel frequently (luckily I'm in the office until Jan.) and regularly used my phone to connect to the corporate network via VPN. I also work with a lot of other companies and have VPN access to their systems as well. Basically now I can open my Cisco VPN client, connect to a VPN gateway, authenticate, get assigned all the appropriate IP information, but cannot communicate on the network. What gives? Is there a solution to this? If not, what the heck was MS thinking when they did this!? My phone is basically useless for one of the major reasons I bought it...
Any help is appreciated!
thanks!
Ok, further searches found that DUN can be added back into WM6 via a cab that was posted here at the XDA forums. I installed it and the DUN service is now visible again. I unpaired by phone and laptop, re-paired, and included DUN. Now when I try to connect, I get the DUN connection box after the bluetooth connection is initiated but when I click DIAL I get the DIALING... prompt, followed by Error 678: The remote computer did not respond.
Anybody get this working on a Treo 750? Thoughts, ideas suggestions?
What is the ip address you are getting via the cisco vpn client
It maybe that it is in the same subnet as the ip address assigned to the pc from the wm6 ics. The ICS gives the address 192.168.0.1. and if your Cisco is also giving a 192.168 address then you will have two routes for the 192 address range thus giving you the problem when accessing hosts.
If this is the problem Im pretty sure you can change the address allocated via the ICS using a registry editor. If not you may be able to get work to use a different range for you on the cisco vpn.
Our corporate network is 172.x.x.x so it's nowhere near the 192.168.0.x assigned by the phone. When I look at the route in the VPN client I see 192.0.0.0, 10.0.0.0, and 172.0.0.0 so I am assuming 192 is my laptop, 10 is the phone, and 172 is the corporate network.
I'm guessing NATing is the problem. I've been reading that if I use a different APN (isp.cingular instead of wap.cingular) there is no NATing. I've tried both, and I've tried turning off and on the "force AT&T" proxy setting to no avail.
Tried the DUN cab hack that is floating around for WM6 also. The service is active again and I can also add Modem Link back in and my laptop sees my Treo as a modem but when I dial I get an error stating the remote computer did not respond. I'm guessing along with going from WM5 to WM6 AT&T also updated the radio so the old communications protocols don't work anymore?
Hello Sir,
I have exactly the same problem... I have successfully connected via VPN, however unable to communicate with any devices on that network... Then what is the use of VPN on the phone? I've tried searching online for answers, but no luck... People are having the same problem but no one knows how to solve it... I'll try and trouble shoot this problem more as soon as my exams are done...
Hi
Working successfully for me. I am using Imate jasjam wm6. Pc using cisco client connecting via ics on phone. I have telstra 3g connection tested ok on both telstra.internet (Nated ip) and telstra.extranet (real ip).
You are correct it may be an nat issue. Can you check that your transparent tunnelling is on as follows: right click on your connection entry in cisco client and select modify then transport tab. Check that enable transport tunneling is enabled ipsec over udp(Nat/pat).
The other thing to check is that the cisco vpn server aslo has transport over Nat on as well.
Also are you sure your corporate ip range is 172 or is that the range given by the cisco vpn to clients.
Transport tunneling is on (always was). I'll have to check with our network admin and check on the VPN server setting...I guess as long as I have connectivity back to the office, I don't need it that badly for all the customers I need to connect to at various times.
Yep, positive on the corporate IP. Right now it is 172.28.1.87 and I'm in the office.
Thanks for the help so far. Got any other suggestions on how I can troubleshoot further?
One other thought...should I modify the registry on the phone to assign a different IP address to my laptop? Would that help?
Same Problem
MX. I am having the exact same issue but with Securemote VPN. I've looked through the registry and found the assigned address, but I'm wary of changing anything until I can find some more information.
Anyone out there ever change the DHCP configuration for their phone?
Somewhat related question?
Im attempting to route my connection on my mobile through a laptop acting as a wan bridge, then uplinking it into the router. The issue Im having is that XP and WM6 both use the same IP Block. Ive read and read and cant find much to tell me how to change the WM6 IP BLock to something like 192.168.2.1 rather than the default 192.168.0.1
Does anyone have any pointers? Ive looked through the registry. There MUST be a simple way to change a default.
To clarify my setup, I am using ICS Via USB into a UMPC laptop running XP. The UMPC is set to share that same connection back out over Ethernet. The ethernet runs into my WAN Uplink on the router and then back out via wifi/rj-45
This setup works as I have done it using Wifi with other networks, and I can chose the "Lan3" to share under the advanced settings on the UMPC. The reason I dont just share out via Wifi from the start is that Wifi on my Kaiser and Raphael both make the device to hot to charge, thusly killing the battery within a couple hrs of sharing. If I share via USB , it stays pretty cool and still charges.
Anyone have any pointers?
I have already tried tricking XP into using the Lan on another block but as soon as you try to share the USB lan, it reverts back to the 192.168.0.1
The only way I can imagine is a registry modification or a program change in ICS.
Thanks Much!

Connection settings...

please. no flaming!
I have been using windows mobile for YEARS.. since the old compaq 6600..
I STILL DON'T GET CONNECTION SETTINGS?!
I just want to watch a stupid youtube video!!! I connect and open youtube, it shows me search results and when i click on a vid, it just sits there connecting for EVER and i never see the vid!!!
So I'm using the new AT&T Pure and I have a cooked rom. No big deal. I have an unlimited data plan so using 3g data is not a big deal. But I don't have good service at my house.
So, can someone please direct me to a good wiki or microsoft doc that CLEARLY explains networking via 3g vs. Wifi in windown mobile!?!?!
At&t uses a proxy server with their MediaNet connection. Correct?!
If i connect with my wifi and it connects to my WORK NETWORK, and I have THAT set to connect to the internet, then what?!
why don't my applications (like YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK and OPERA) use the fastest connection automatically?!?!
there used to be a "disable proxy" and "enable proxy" program running around... what was it for?! to disable the proxy server settings on the MediaNet network?! why do you need that to use the wifi?! the wifi network adaptor connects to the work network which connects to the internet without a proxy!?
i'm a Microsoft Systems Administrator.. I have been working with Servers for YEARS.. i have SETUP ISA servers, configured routers and HP ProCurve switches and the likes of such for YEARS!!! Why does MS have to make windows Mobile Networking so freaking complicated!!!!

Has anyone tried setting up a VPN connection on their Note?

From my desktop i am using BeeVPN and would love to have my phone connection using the VPN protocol protecting my traffic on my phone as well.
So now i am hoping someone here are using either beevpn or a similar service and have setup a secure vpn on their note and would share their experience in doing so?
I've setup a VPN to my home using Windows 7's built in VPN server. I used Dyndns to sort out the physical IP address to my home (since I don't have a static IP) and then set up the port forwarding on my router to forward VPN connections to the PC I have running the VPN service.
Works like a charm (PPTP protocol being used.)
I have openvpn on my XP home machine and also on my (rooted) note. It is a bit fiddly to get the note's internet traffic routing via the home XP box - that does not happen by default on an openvpn connection, you have to set it up in the openvpn server config file. Should then be OK but unfortunately, pushing the default gateway doesn't seem to work on Android in practice. The openvpn client on the note has a workaround for this - a menu option to "fix DNS problems" which does the job after the VPN is established.
I use this method for any stuff I do on public wifi other than basic web surfing where I have no security concerns. So, banking, utilities etc. all goes over VPN. I also use it when I need to present my home IP address rather than thet of the connection I'm currently on: eg. for watching UK TV streams whilst outwith UK, and for remote access to 3rd party systems that sit behind firewalls which allow my static home IP through but nothing else).
Connecting to the VPN from public wifi/3G is very easy (once I've woken the XP box with Wake on LAN). The only real downside is that your download speed over the VPN in this configuration is limited to the UPLOAD speed of your home broadband. I get 800Kbps which is sufficient for decent video streaming (skygo/TVcatchup).
The other major benefit of VPN is that you can remotely access your home PC's and services on them via internal ip addreses without having to open up ports on your router on the WAN interface.
I've had a Vpn set up on my note for about 4 months now with no problems.
I use vpnaccounts.com as the server very easy and simple to setup.
I just wish the Vpn would work using my data connection and not just Wifi but we can't have everything!

Click to collapse
I'm located in Brazil and also use vpnaccounts.com on my laptop, pc, Galaxy Note and Nexus S. The server I connect to is in Dallas Tx.
I also use the 1 VPN app which gives you 1 click logon.
Everything works great!
Yes but don't you have to enter your VPN password every time you want to turn on the VPN?
I can't find a way to keep the password remembered by the device.
