Screen light keeps switching off on Wizard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

The screen backlight has a habit of turning off after a few secs, and will not come back on with the exception of about 90% of the time when you put the camera on.
This fixed itself after I used lokiwiz - but since installing other applications has returned again.
Any ideas?

I have now realised despite the phone being unlocked (sim and CID) with lokiwiz - the phone is only switching its backlight off when used with a NON original supplier sim - so clearly there is an additional lock in the phone that lokiwiz cannot see.

That must just have been a coincidence - as it is now doing it with the original sim now too.
It switches on initially - but once the screen back light foes off - either by time or by being put on standby - then only the screen resarts - but is unlit.
Although starting the camera can sometimes fix this.
It also runs very slowly often when this happens - so slowly it can take the windows busy icon ten seconds to go between each 22.5 degree incriment as the 'shadow' rotates over the circle with coloured quarters.
Any ideas?

Same issue
Did you figure out the issue? I am having the same problem.

I have never had this problem but I set up my dad's MDA Vario as a clone of mine at the weekend and got this.
The only differences are he has
1) a SIM lock pin number
2) a GPRS connection.
Both SIMS are Vodafone
Any similarities?

Backlight
Nope. I was running Custom TMO 2.17 with no issues. Earlier I installed Core Pocket Movie Player and reset. After reset, backlight keeps staying dark. I can turn it up through the settings but each time it powers off or goes into screen saver it stays dim and I have to reconfigure.

i have the same problem, it seems unrepeatable to me though, it just does it when it wants...
EDGE

Its going fine now. But I have not been near a PC for ages.
I cannot remember exactly how i did it as it was about 7 weeks ago - but i found the solution on the modico forum and the phone runs like a dream now with the exception of crashing once.

Could be a Fix !!!
I had this same problem on my xda mini s which i bought from 02 over a week ago with the back light kept going on and off..
How i got round this..
I noticed in backlight settings there r battery power and external power if you have external power turn off option say x secs set as well as battery power turn off x secs you get that random shutting off..
I removed the option in external power say turn off in 5 secs unticked that and set it only in battery power ticked
Now mine stays on for around 5 mins or whatever u wana set it to through battery power with no problems....
Hope this helps....

WiFi kills battery when Universal is switched off?

Hi there,
With my BlueAngel I could leave the WiFi on all night as when the phone was switched off it did not eat up the battery - when the phone was switched on it would spend a couple of seconds reconnecting to the wireless point.
The Universal seems to behave in the same way, yet it eats up all the battery overnight even when I have switched the phone off and it is not connected to the WiFi access point.
Is there some setting or registry key I can alter to fix this?
Cheers,
Quilty
@Qulity, if you don't close PIE I have found the battery can be drained. I assume overnight you are using Flight Mode.
Are you closing the flip and presuming that the device gets turned off or have you actually set your device to turn off after a fixed period of inactivity in the power settings?
If it is the former, then the device actually does not turn off if there is any activity in the background like active GPRS or WiFi etc. A simple solution to this would be to press the hard-ware on/off button once you are done irrespective of whether wfi is active or not in the background.
Try it out and post your results here.
My device is set to turn off after 2 mins on battery power, but I made a special point of turning it off with the hardware button before testing last night. As I said before my BlueAngel never behaved like this.
my jasjar was turned off yesterday, and every 5min i heard sound for new wifi network!! same problem, i solved it with turnig wifi off!! any other solutions?

how to switch off a MDA PRO Universal and battery life

How do you switch it off ? I have set the thing to switch off automatically after 2 minutes, but its still on after 3 hours and the battery has dropped from 99% to 40%. I had the bluetooth on and everything else switched off.
It is one week old.
Is the battery life normal ?
I'm sure it didn't switch off.
thanks
I have a jasjar. First thing i did, i uninstalled antivirus and skype. I keep it all day on with bluetooth active, and everything off at night. Based on calls and activities i put it on charge every 3 or 4 days.
I have set my MDA Pro to turn off after 3 minutes, and it does indeed turn off. If I don't touch it (turn it back on), the device can go all day with negligible battery usage (a few %).
Bluetooth is off. WiFi is on. 'Incoming beams' are off.
I sync by cable, so the device is powered while syncing. If you sync via bluetooth, then perhaps activesync is keeping the device awake even though it is not powered.
If you turn it off manually (power button on edge near SD card slot), does it turn itself back on? Mine does that when activesync is running and connected. Otherwise it is happy to stay off until I get a call or some reminder.
go to the phone options and change from Auto band select to GSM. Using 3G sucks battery like a mofo
my main issue is that it should have turned itself off
1) in the comms menu, only bluetooth was on
phone was off
wireless was off
beam set to off as well
From 98% charge to 40% in 3 hours, when I hadn't used it at all.
I am sure that is not usual.
So gsm/3g/gprs shouldn't have any bearing on the batt life, as it was set to off ....
was bluetooth actively doing anything during this time or just on and sitting there?
Firestomer, the following eat batteries:
- PIE running in the background
- Camera app running in the background (can be activated when you shut the camshell as it is easy to hit the camera switch on the front)
- UMTS (which is not a problem for as your radio is off)
hi joe
BT wasn't doing anything - I closed the clamshell and left it expecting it to switch off, but I guess it didn't since it chewed through nearly 60% power in 3 hours.
Also, what is the technique for switching it off ? I have pressed the power button to the left of the SD slot, all it does is switch the backlight off. I have held it for 0.5 seconds, 1, 5, 10 ....
I am loosing patience with the thing - wifi isn't working for me and TomTom5 keeps forgetting it has a GPS connection ...
btw what is PIE ??
firestomer
PIE = pocket IE
Two clicks of the off switch will turn the device off
On my device BT only uses about 10/15% of battery over a 12 hr period
Are you talking about svitching the device entirely off? i dont think that can be done...exept if you take the battery out and put it back in and dont turn it back on
yes as close to off as possible when I am as sleep etc, but it guess it needs to keep the clock and alarm and keypressed detect powered ....

XV6800 Problem... Need Help

So this problem has been going on for the past 2 days, and its very perplexing. Any help would be much appreciated.
For whatever reason, my phone has stopped automatically turning off after X minutes.
I'm talking about when you go into Start, Settings, System tab. There's options for automatically turning off the backlight after X amount of minutes (one option for when its using battery, another when its on AC Power).
The backlight auto off works just fine. After 1 minute, the screen goes semi-dark, but not blank.
What's not working is the Power setting, where you go to Power, then Advanced, and then both battery power and external power, you can have the device turn off if not used for X minutes. I've tried 1, 2 5, 10, and none of them seem to work.
The device only turns off the backlight, but then remains on, draining the battery at incredible speed. I need to manually keep hitting the hardware power button on the right side of the device to get the screen to go off completely.
Any help, ideas, suggestions? Thanks!

Are you running custom or stock rom, have you thought about possibly doing a hard reset. besides adjusting those settings have you tried something else. Was anything instlled just before this started if so what....I know thats alot of questions but it might help..
I thought dimming the screen was the manufacturers idea of turning off....mine has done that since day one. I too have tried everything and thought that was normal.
Hmmm, Mine dimms then turns off IE: 1 Min to turn off I'd say 30 Seconds it dimms and 30 seconds later it turns off.....
I'm using a stock ROM, havent installed anything "new" in the past few days. I normally run a bunch of various programs though, but I wasnt having this issue before.
I did a hard reset. Everything was fine. Then I ran a backup and it reinstalled all my programs/files/settings, and issue returned.
So its obviously being caused by oen of the programs I use, I just dont know which I guess.
Edit- Upon further investigation, I *think* its Palringo. I removed it completely, and everything seems to be ok again

Self shut down / switch off in standby

Hi All,
I'm experiencing a major issue with my HD. it will self shut down or switch off after entering standby mode, ranging from few minutes to few hours (3 hours to be precise, the last time). Is there anyone having the same issue? if yes, is there anyway to solve this?
please help.
regards,
sanchez
Check if the battery is properly fixed. I mean, that it doesn't move. If it doesn't a perfect contact, as soon as you move or touch the device a bit harder than usual, it can turn itself off.

i did and still it shuts down.. it shuts down randomly in standby mode, ranging from few minutes to hours (maximum 8 hrs so far). the seller refused to replace mine because
1) the phone didnt shut off in standby mode when they were checking it
2) they refused to test it for a longer time
I have the same problm. Every now and then it will shut down and reboot. Annoying when the phone wakes me up in the middle of the night (htc boot-sound)

yours actually reboots itself? mine only shut down / switch off by itself. my only self found solution is by deactivating standby mode, so the phone will go the stage of switching backlight off but screen is still visible... its draining the battery =(
It's not that strange that the phone reboots, that is what happens if a program crashes.
If your seller won't test it for a longer time, try going to an HTC point.

Actually that was what happened with my Diamond. Even hard-resetting the phone did not help.
I sent it back for repairs twice, but the problem persisted.
You device might be faulty, if a hard-reset does not solve the problem.

Screen Stays Awake

Hi,
The screen on my Nexus 4 has started to stay awake. I've noticed my battery drain a lot quicker over the last couple of days and I also noticed that every time I pulled my phone out the screen was lit so I've taken it out and watched it. It just stays awake all the time. If I turn the screen off the minute a message or anything comes in the screen wakes and stays awake so near impossible to keep it off for any length of time.
I do have the developer screen enabled and had stay awake whilst charging option enabled. I disabled that to make sure that this wasn't causing the screen to stay awake thinking it was somehow on the charger when it wasn't however the problem persists even with that option unchecked.
I have the screen timeout in display set to 30 secs.
Anybody else experiencing this or no how to solve?
The phone is stock and unrooted though I plan on rooting later today.

Does it stay awake but go very dim? I have this issue too.
can it be caused by the screen protector blocking the light sensor somehow?
Can you install BBS (BetterBatteryStats) and see what's keeping your phone awake?
Sounds like a FULL_WAKE_LOCK is constantly being imposed on your phone.
Questions
Is it only when you put it for 30s?
What's around your pocket when you put your phone in it?
Do you have any attachments onto your phone? e.g. skin protectors, cases...etc
Does this occur on any screen or just your home screen and the developer options screen?
Though some questions may be obvious, the best method is to be thorough with the situation. Answering these questions will help us better help you.
My phone shut itself down about an hour ago (plenty of battery left as I had to charge it earlier and was at 50% when it did come back on). It took several minutes before it would respond to getting turned back on again. I've got 2 messages since and the screen is now tuning off as it should. I had turned the phone off a few times to see if it rectified yesterday however that didn't work.
The problems wasn't anything to do with me having it in my pocket as the problem still existed when I had it sitting on my desk. I have no screen protectors or case and I never put it in any pocket that has anything else in it as I don't want to ruin too quickly.
So not sure what's going. All seems very odd. Hopefully not a sign that the phone is on the way out but looks ok for now. Will have to watch and see what happens over the next few days.
Thanks to all who took the time to respond. Hopefully I won't need to bother you again on this issue but not convinced just yet
