if this is your today screen, it is amazing but strange i dont see many of the applications u mentioned in today screen! and strange after u insalled all this u still have 38 MB free! even when i dont have EXT. Rom installed i have 48 but after installing some applications it gets to be 35
tnx for the compliment I think you misunderstood my post a bit... as you can see I divided the apps/stuff to storage, sd card and main memory. the things you don't see (i.e. fast cleanup, maimach tel extender etc etc are on main memory not on the today screen).
My Today Screen has 4 items only (I'm a minimalist I guess)
#1 Date (in built)
#2 SBSH.net PocketBreeze 4.3 beta 5
#3 SBSH.net PocketWeather 1.00.15 beta (inside PocketBreeze as a tab)
#4 SPB PocketPlus 2.5
My Navigation Tray has
#1 Zendrui's PocketZenPhone
#2 Bluetooth (in built)
#3 Screen Rotation (in built)
With PocketBreeze you get 3 default tabs calendar, tasks, and special events. If you get ContactBreeze you get to see your contacts on your today screen as another tab and with v4.3 and up, you can add most today plugins (even from other companies) into PocketBreeze as an additional tab (so in total you can get 4 to 5 tabs it saves a lot of space... really great). www.sbsh.net
As for the Audio Tweak it enhances the speaker performance of the Magician (some devices have this set to a lesser priority and by using this you get better sound, if your device is already set to a high level you have no need for this)
As for my memory being 38MB I just soft reset my device before the screen shot so maybe that is why it is that high. Also my skins and themes (for today, pocketbreeze, and pocketweather are all in SD; the current ones are in main memory but my others are in SD), my tones are in storage. I guess it is a matter of file management. Some people even move their DLLs to Storage to free up even more memory.

- EGRESS, as cutom Tab
- Ptravel Alarm

This is exactly what I did, PocketWeather is my 4th tab in PocketBreeze. I did not put the Handy Launcher Icon on the Navigation Tray Since I want a clean looking Today.

What does the Date/Time hack do exactly?
The default for pocket pc is you have the time on the upper right hand side of the Start Menu Bar this hack adds a date to that. A few apps also do this (omegaone's batt pack pro and wisbar).
That's cool. Saves me another line on the Today screen!

thanx in advance
@J273: This is really easy to do. Anyway here goes. I am using Resco Explorer 2003. - with hide hidden files... and hide files in ROM setting checked.
Moved all help files to Storage Card (to save RAM) - goto \Windows then Sort by Type then scroll to files with *.htm as extension select them, cut and paste to desired location.
Moved Caller ID Pics (made my own gifs for groups) to Storage - in IA Caller ID Tools>Options>General>Storage Path for re-sized Photos: just choose \Storage
Moved Templates for the Camera and MMS Apps to Storage - Checking under \My Documents\Templates and \My Documents\UAContents\Templates\ you will see the templates for both Camera and MMS you can move these or delete these as well. I don't use MMS Templates and rarely use Picture Themes so I moved these as well.
Deleted/Moved all crap installed by IA Caller ID and MMS - Again after a hard reset (and installing stuff from ExtROM) you will notice alot of RAM is already in use. If you check the ff folders you will see alot of stuff that is pretty much useless. \My Documents\UAContents\Templates\ and \My Documents\My Pictures and even \My Documents (I think a wav file some 3gp and a midi file is installed by MMS) anyway you can go ahead and move these or delete these stuff as well.
Ah also remember to set your photos and videos storage to a Storage Card instead of Main Memory. (sometimes we forget this after a hard reset  )

Move DLL to storade/storage card
Hi to all
How we can move DLL to storage/storage card.
I think that is very important to speak about ways of recover space in main memory.
Thanks to all
Re: Move DLL to storade/storage card
There is a registry setting to specify to use other locations (eg /Storage) to store system DLL files. Or U can use Memmaid to do it for U.

Jack

so.. there´s anyway, or hack that allow us to change the spb mobile shell icons?
I'd like to do this as well cannot see how at the moment
SPB stuff is never as customizable as I want it to be. That's the problem with their products, IMHO. If it weren't for that, I would definitely be using Mobile Shell right now, but I want an application launcher of my own choosing, not their stupid one that is mostly about built in WM applications. If someone is able to hack Mobile Shell to customize it fully, I would be very gracious.

It actually allows you to map any programs that you want - you should try it.
The 'programs' is automatically based on recently used programs, or programs that you can pin in place. There is also a user menu where you can add/delete components as you want..

Yeah, I hate that. Makes no sense either, since you can customize icons in Pocket Plus.
Well, who knows how to change the "internet" to go to picsel browser instead of IE, and maybe remover organizer with something else from the second page?
I believe all the graphics and layouts are in the .dat files in the SPB Mobile directory. However these .dat files are password protected zip files.
Anyone know if I can remove the calender on the now screen and make my app/task list longer?

Just go to SPB Mobile Shell Setting -> Now tab -> Options (or something alike, I have russian version) and set calendar to No.
all dat files - zip it closed password (applies to SPB Plus) Password b0fm18zq
If even simpler: open file in PhotoShop, make a copy on a copy! -- draw with layers and so forth - with copies in the copy buffer - impose on the original - link sectors - remain with "SAVE" - SHELL and PLUS - very sensitive palette to change - if the file is simply to preserve the "SAVE AS ...." and the changing palette of color and depth.
sorry for bad English
for example View attachment qp_menu_btn.zip
unzip and replace it in mobile shell folder, then soft reset.
not difficult.. not impossible.
1. copy all of the graphics (png's)
2. make new ones and name them the same way (using Photoshop)
3. Stop the processes associated with SPB all of them and more. basicaly put it into "safemode for a ppc" kill all but the essential processes.
4. replace the old files with the new ones and reboot.
Note: the new files have to be identical in format (ex: PNG 24bit 96pxlX96pxl) not that it is the actual format.
Good luck.

Try this.... Goto MS2.0 settings, Now screen tab (first one) click on configure, click on calender drop down tab, change setting to: None, One Week, Two Weeks, Three Weeks. Default is on auto.
I cant confirm this will work for you as I haven't tried it. (I just know the setting is there. Let us know if it works for you....
Hummm for some of us Graphically retarded people does this mean that people will be posting themes???
That would be pretty cool if you ask me. But I actually like the MS2.0. I have played and configed my ppc many many many many times now and I think I am at the point where I just want to use it.
Anyway, I do think it would be cool if people posted there own personal themes for MS2.0.

SoBBie

Thanks this is very useful
I made an easy way of replacing the Calendar app in Mobile Shell 2 with your own prefered application. Once you create a shortcut you can switch between the default Calendar and any application of your choosing.
I made it as simple as possible to add your prefered Calendar Manager, I use ThumbCal. As downloaded, the script is setup for ThumbCal, but to change it all you have to do is edit the first 2 lines with a text editor.
LIMITATIONS:
NOW SCREEN support is not currently possible, as this would require a major hack of the Shell Program itself, I am not skilled in that and it would most likely violate licensing anyway. I have searched the registry, and disected the "XML" files, and determined "Now Screen" support will not become available with the the current version of Shell. My appologies.
1) Version 0.02 only changes the application on the "Menu Launcher" screen, and breaks extended menu features such as "Add New Appointment" from the Mobile Shell Menu. Once ThumbCal Supports these extended features from external apps (rumored to take place in next release), I will release a dedicated version for these features.
2) Version 0.02 Does not change the default calendar from the Spb Mobile Shell "Now" screen, this is planned for a later version (under R&D).
For use with SPB Mobile Shell 2 only, for Windows Mobile support see this thread.
MortScript is requied, download it here.
I hope you find this useful!
To use:
1. Download and unpack the ZIP file.
2. Edit the first 2 lines in the MSCR file, notepad works fine for this.
set AltCalendarName, "ThumbCal"
set AltCalendarPath, "\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"
3. Copy to your device, and make a shortcut.
4. Click the shortcut and answer the "Yes or No" question.
5. Repeat step 4 to swap between the two calendar managers!
Change Log:
v0.02: Changed dialog error.
thank you very much
Great idea. Can't wait for this to support the NOW Calendar
Any updates on the next version?
Only update at his time is that I have been very busy this week, and have not had time to research this much. So far it looks as though version 0.01 was not effected by the spb upgrade to v2.1, as it still works after upgrading to 2.1.
Nice job!
Hoping the solutions for Now Screen to come early.
Can I try to use other Calendar apps than ThumbCal?
Hello
First of all:
I Like the work NiteStalker has done (using more off his work).
Anyway, SPB has a little CAB files for integration with PIMs (and yes, also the now screen):
More info: http://clubspb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7794
I didn't test all this program's, but they are from the creators off the software so I think it's worth posting it
I tested it succesfully with my Wizard WM 6.1 with Mobile Shell 2.1 & PocketInformant
As copied from the site:
"
Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 offers an API to third party developers to integrate into Spb Menu and Now Screen.
Integration module for Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion and Agenda One is available as a separate download.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/downloads/mobileshell/SpbMenuPlugins.cab
Please download it to your Pocket PC and install to get full support in Spb Menu and Now Screen (<- NOT SUPPORTING NOW SCREEN, sorry for the mistake).
Information about integration with Extreme agenda is here:
Not tested anything off this:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/forums/viewtopic.php?t=663
Download is here:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/spbBirdsoftXA.zip
Even themes are aviable for Extreme Agenda:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/xamsthemes.zip
"
So, there are 3 files:
1 - for Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion and Agenda One (CAB file)
2 - Extreme agenda (ZIP with EXE files to run on PDA)
3 - Extreme agenda themes (don't know exactly look on site i mentioned above)
I've attached them in this post.
I've played with these, and was unsucessful in integrating the now, even with the ones they claim to support. Please keep us posted about your progress, thanks

After running the script and clicking on my appointments from SPB MS Its still goes to the outlook calender. WHich is weird because it says that ThumbCal is now my default calender. Ideas?

aww that sucks. Hmm
[EDIT] Nevermind, found it under the Menu>Organizer>Calendar. See I knew I was dense!
Hey NiteStalker,
I really appreciate your hard work on these Mobile Shell scripts. I have (what seems like) a dumb question.
Since there is no NOW screen support (yes I was able to read that ), what does this script do for Mobile Shell? How would you use it with Mobile Shell?
Sorry if I am a bit dense
Thanks again.
Under organizer>calendar is changed to thumbscal.
should we send a request to SPB ?
because - i'm sure they want informations how to start the app: and which paramter for starting the actual apointment, aso .....#
how can we help whith my knowledge ... ?
any news? Does it work with SPB MS now?
Perhaps interims solution
1. i had installed PocketInformat 2008 Trial-Version.
2. installed the integration module for PI
3. test it in Now Screen
4. copy all files from ../ThumbCal/*.* to ../WebIS/PocketInformant/*.*
5. rename PocketInformant.exe to PocketInformant.exe.alt
6. rename ThumbCal.exe to PocketInformant.exe
hope this helps until another solution is out.
ppcfox
That's an excellent tip and worked fine for me, although I had to rename ThumbCal.exe to PITab.exe to make it work.
I also found that after I'd got ThumbCal into the PocketInformant folder I could then un-install PocketInformant to save some space.
I've found that after installing PocketInformant and the spb cab you can change a couple of keys in the registry to get ThumbCal to run from the Now screen without having to rename the .exe
Set these two keys to the values shown:
\\HKCU\Software\WebIS\PocketInformant\InstallDir = \Program Files\ThumbCal
\\HKLM\Software\Spb Software House\Shared\SpbMenu\Now\Pocket Informant\FileP = ThumbCal.exe
is there a good photo editor for windows mobile? I was looking for some autoadjustments, increase brightness, particularly for images on phone camera.
I think you may have posted this in the wrong section, but I'm not sure. A Moderator will move it if it is
The only one I know of is SPB Imageer.
That means you'll probably have to pay
Here are the features taken from SPB website:
•One-click slideshow with smooth transitions
•Multiple thumbnail options
•Picture editing (red-eye, brightness, contrast, and more)
•Storage card notification with common tasks
•Batch optimizing of photos
•Web publishing (Flickr, Fotki.com, and more)
•Album creation and sharing
•Rich picture notes (text, drawing, and sound)
•Powerful screenshot tool
It sounds great to me and not too badly priced I suppose ($14)
And you can always download the trial to see what it's like
Anyway, here is the link to the SPB Imageer page:
http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/imageer/
Hope this helps

download the the demo version of pocket artist. it can do a lot more than what you are asking for
Resco Photo Viewer Pro.
Conduits Pocket Artist.
It is just like Photoshop for PPC. and you can edit PSD files too!
XnView Pocket does a lot of basics (cropping, resizing, brightness, contrast, etc) and it's free.
+1 on Resco photo viewer pro
For those who know what it is, I have created a complete install for the HP 48GX Emulator optimized for WVGA devices. The emulator itself is based on Sébastien Carlier's Emu48 (now maintained by Christoph Gießelink).
My goals were to have a realistic but finger-useable HP 48GX. I have included the complete package in a single CAB (the ROM is an HP 48GX-R model). As HP released the ROMs for all the 48 models about 9 years ago, I can't imagine them complaining that I'm packaging them together as a useful package these days
See the attached Todo.txt before posting any bug reports please. FYI, I do not really plan to address any of the Todo items anytime in the near future.
Enjoy!
HP 48GX-R 1.18.1
Change Log
2009.09.24
v1.18.1
Converted 709 KB bmp file into 94 KB gif with no data loss. The screen should now load much faster.
Updated CAB file installation to allow for Storage Card installation.
P.S. The thumbnail doesn't even begin to do it justice. I spent *DAYS* on the visual appeal of the interface and for anyone who owns/owned an HP 48GX I hope you'll agree the level of detail and realism is nearly perfect.
P.P.S. If you don't know what an HP calculator is, or more importantly what RPN means, then its probably not worth your time even trying this.
48GX State Files
I have now attached some state files which includes two .e48 files and a SHARED.BIN file. The SHARED.BIN file is a 512K Port 2-5 attached card which both .e48 files share. The files are as follows:
SHARED.BIN

Included in the zip is a file called InstallConfigure.txt which is simply the steps I took to create the .e48 files. Please note that I did not include the application .lib files themselves, though I did link most of them above. Remember, you can always recall them to the stack and save to your device if you plan to use any of them to make your own state file(s) from scratch.
48GX WVGA Photoshop Source
If your goal is to modify the visual appearance of the calculator without modifying the position or operation of any of the keys (onscreen or keyboard) then you may be interested in downloading the Photoshop source (attached).
Using it you must create a BMP file that is dimensionally identical to the one included in my installation (else you must change the KML appropriately). This means that there must be the entire image with no buttons pushed followed by the annunciators, followed by an image with the buttons pushed (without the annunciators again though). See the BMP that comes with the installation to know what I am talking about here.
The photoshop source is currently set to output an image with no buttons pressed and the annunciators. You will save as a BMP image to get the initial image with annunciators. You must then hide all the appropriate layers (and there are MANY) for unpressed button mode, and finally show all the appropriate layers (again there are MANY) for pressed button mode. Now change the image canvas size (cutting 14 pixels--the annunciators) from the bottom of the image, and save this as a BMP image. You will then take the first BMP image, expand the canvas size by 748 pixels at the bottom, adding the second BMP image (with the pressed buttons) in that area. Then simply merge layers and convert that image to Indexed color mode (selective) and save as the final BMP image.
If you are planning on changing colors note that where possible all you have to do is select every appropriate text layer and then change the colors for all of them at once. However, you will notice there are two layers (one for text graphics, and one for button graphics) that you cannot do this. You may deal with these in one of two ways:
Use the wand tool selection with shift to select all items of a given color, and then use some form of Image|Adjustment|... to match the colors.
Recreate the items manually. This is where the HP48.csh file comes into play. These are vector items I created for some of the button graphics (and annunciators). Access them through the custom shape tool (load custom shapes from file).
The button pressed version of the button graphics is precisely the same as the non-pressed version, simply shifted down one pixel. So my recommendation there is to simply make changes to the non-pressed version, duplicate it, shift down one pixel, and make that the new (Pressed) layer.
If you spend the time to properly create a graphics file that you think others would enjoy, please upload it and the source for others!
Cheers!
I still have my 48gx from more than 10 years ago, now I am just a HP12c type of guy
Excellent Work! Much appreciated! I also have a Emu48 version used by a company called EaglePoint (used to be SMI). It is called Pocket SMI v8. I have a licensed version but it is no longer supported. It is basically a custom tweaked Emu48 with a different skin and kml script specifically for surveyors/engineers. I would like to modify the skin but I am not sure how to get started...
Very Nice! Thanks much!
You think you can skin it for my 48SX as well?
The GX colors annoy the heck out of me...
wow, I haven't tried it yet but will, awesome idea. I still have my 48GX from college but I doubt my professors would like me to use cell phone during tests.
Thanks, will try it.
Thanks!

If you have Photoshop and some time/know-how to make minor changes (difference in keys) to the KML file I can provide you with the graphics source that you can work with to make an SX skin.
Thank you!
This is fantastic, I will be looking for any updates and improvements. Will test and report back.
Wow... that's amazing...
...Here's my HP 48SX from my college years (circa 1992) for comparison...

help on resizing the skin hp48gx
I have tried to resize it with photoshop, but I don't know how to remap the keys.
Could be a way to include scroll bar option?
Thanks
