Can anyone tell me what is supported by the new XDA IIs MMC/SD Card holder? I have used three different vendors cards and the unit does not allways see them. I have gone through two XDA IIs, with the same issue. Two cards are 512mb Kingston and Simpletek, and the third is a no name 1gb mmc card. It also causes the XDA IIs units to intermittently turn on. Any help would be fantastic!
Thanks,
Mike

Do you have any third party software such as a File Explorer program on your XDA?
ive been using lexar 1 gb without anyprobs
the problem might not be the xda but it might be the cards maybe backing up the cards and formatting them would help ive used a lexar 256 for the last 5-6 months with no problems at all
After exchanging from MMC card to SD card the PPC wants to reformat the SD card (the one with all your programs and back up etc on it [1GB]). The other SD card of 256mb is not recognized at all anymore (so much for all my music). Could there be a connection from the fact that I have had a MMC card inserted before? I already have put back the MMC card to see if some program had not been closed properly. ALthough I fortunately have a recent backup of my 1GB SD card ( but not my 256 mb card) I would prefer to find a more sophisticated solution than to reformat my SD card. Who has a solution for me? Thanks.
Is there a bug between MMC and SD?
SD Card getting corrupted by MDA II !!
Hello,
I have MDA ii since last two months and my device has corrrupted my extreme - 512 SD Card Twice and after corruption it's not even recognized by PPC , USB card reader and my camera.
I have installed omeg a_Red OS. on my MDA ii
Following are the details of my device
ROM Version : 2.0.6.00 WWE
ROM Date : 06/14/2004
Radio Version : 1.18.00
Protcol Version : 1337.38
ExtROM Version : Diamond 1.2 se

have you been able to read your SD card at all. I am having the same problem with my XDAIIi. Cannot read the card on any device or PC.
Yep it worked fine straight away, hence I had "Loads of pictures and movies on there too. "
Does any one know what it going on?
maybe the card is dead
seen it happening to a CF card once all of a surden it just died
and would not work in the digicam sdreader ..,....
Nooooo, is that it then?!?! data none recoverable?
Does this happen often? Should I be able to get my money back? What's the point of having 1 gb of storage if at any moment it disapears with all your info on?!
when it happent with the CF card for the camera it was 100% dead and all data was lost
of cause i cant say for sure if it could be saved or not
but no money was thrown after the project
i mean when soo much time have passed who care who was firing the shots from the grassy nole
and to answer you other question then no it should be pretty rare
that a flash card die seen tests where they put a cam on a bridge and blew it up and found the flash card and it still worked
and also this
http://news.com.com/Lost+at+sea,+found+in+flash+-+page+2/2100-1041_3-5780047-2.html?tag=st.num
but i would try some different SD readers before writting it off as dead
i had exp with some sd readers which sucked
and others my own sandisk 8-1 flash reader had no issues reading the card
That's the route I'm trying, installing card reader on pc.
Cheers.
Expect a post in the near future "SD Card reader not working on XDA IIi"
I am also currently in the same soup. Whe I let the xda2 format the sd, it works alright in xda storing files etc, but not recognised by laptop and it also asks to format it.

I am giving up on my card. As it was only 2 days old I am returning it and hoping for a replacement. My friend has sent his XDA II back to O2 as it has destroyed 3 SD cards within the space of two weeks. All different makes. My card was a new 512MB high speed card. I had been using an older Sandisk 256MB card with no problems for several months and decided to upgrade. I will try another card that I have - Sandisk 512MB (slow card) and see if that is OK.
O2 have said that this is not a known problem!!! What do they know???
O2 also gave me the same reply!
Idiots.
Their solution was "Take it to a store, and an engineer will look at it"
Yeah right, you mean a dummy who is trained to follow a 10 stage analysis process and tell you at the end "Sorry, I don't know what the problem is, shall we send it back to HTC for analysis?"
My guess is that the handset is not negotiating the operating voltage correctly, and is frying certain cards.
My 512MB + 1GB Toshiba cards fried within 2 weeks of new.
My 256MB Kingston is still going strong after 9 months (touch wood!)
Now almost 90 quid down the drain, and I'm going to try O2 as a last resort!
(Might print this forum too
This has been happening quite a lot recently. I made a post regarding the same happening to my 512mb Kingston card here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=25566
Somewhere in that thread are links to THREE other recent threads regarding fried SD cards. I think there is a hardware fault in the device...
Anyway, I seem to remember the seller boasting about some warranty on their site, so I'm going to try to return it...
I just spoke with the supplier... he was very accomodating. This is what he said:
Whilst the Kingtston card is of superior quality to the Viking they are both using Toshiba components and we have had customers experience a similar issue when using either card with the XDAii where it would seem that the device 'kills' the card... I would recommend a Lexar branded xD card for use in the XDAii rather than any Toshiba based card. If you are interested, you could purchase the Lexar card from us and I can issue you with a full refund for your current SD card (including postage) as I feel the Lexar card would be more suitable for your use.

Yes, I have a Transcend 150X 4G SD and tested on Xda2i, xda2, dopod 828, Dopod 900 without any problem.
Just Xda2s can't recongize the card. Strange!
I've got a xda2i and would also like to buy one of transcend's 4gb sd cards.
Should I format it to FAT32 on my pc first, or will it work straight out of the box?

How's the speed on the 150x 4gb Transcend card? Has it been benchmarked or can you compare it to any other brands of SD card?

Just out of interest, does your 2s recognize MMC cards? It says its meant to but mine doesn't.
I grabbed some pics of our daughter off my wife's mini mmc card using my BA... It's a 64mb sanDisk (I think).
Ive bought a Transcend 4Gb SD but am having problems with my XDA IIi using it. Capacity comes up fine, can write continuously to it for about 15 minutes (using activesync), then XDA locks up. Have to then soft reset and start again!
Playing wma files from it usually lasts about 20-30 minutes before the same lock up occurs.
Does anyone know if the 4Gb is a single or dual-layer module ?
Im only running the original ROM 1.11.00.WWE, ext ROM 1.11.923 WWE - will upgrading this help?

Just discovered that the problems of freezing only happen when syncing in the USB cradle! Syncing via Wifi is fine! Also playback is fine as long as its not in the USB cradle.
Thought it might be a USB power issue so I plugged in the power suypply as well but still it freezes in the cradle ????

Anyone tested it with the universal?
??
I have just purchased a Sanddisk ultra ll 1.0gb storage card.
It works fine in my digital camera but when inserted into my spv m600 the device wont recognise it.
Is there a storage card limitation with the prophet and if so is there a way round it ?
I have similar problem with SD card Transcend 2 Gb x150. When I got 2 Gb TwinMOS x66 problem disappeared. I think the problem is the too high speed of card. Probably they can’t work at speed which is sufficient for Prophet.
Card problem?
Anybody else had sucess with the Transcend 2gb card x150? I was thinking of purchasing the 4gb version, at same speed, but now I'm not sure I want to waste my money.
Anybody else have a 4gig, can you name brand and speed pls?
I have used both the sandisk 1gb ultra II card and the sandisk 2 gb. Both work fine in my I-mate jamin. The ultra II is much faster, but i mostly use the 2gb card, cause I need more space. If they had a 2gb or 4 gb ultra II i would buy it also...I have also used the PNY 2 gb cards. They all work in my jasjar as well. But like i said, the ultra II works best.
You might need to re-format the card and then try it (not with the camera format option, but from the Jamin)
You can download a beta copy of pocket mechanic (good for 15 days without license) at www.antontomov.com go to forum and check pocket mechanic beta forum for latest version
Thanks eagle1
That's good news Eagle. What are the speeds of your two SD cards?
Anybody use a 4 gig non-sandisk card?
I'm using a Trandcend 150xSD 4 GB and it works great.
i am using an sandisk extreme III (150x) 1 GB and works great
Still no card showing
Thanks people for your posts and advice i have tried a few things including pocket mechanic but still have not managed to get my prophet to accept the Sandisk Ultra ll 1.0gb sd card.
If anyone comes up with a soloution or indeed has a SPV M600 with a working Sandisk Ultra ll 1.0gb please let me know.
Just off to e-mail Sandisk to see if they can help.
Thanks again for your posts.
It seems that high speed SD cards workability balanced on the edge with Prophet PDA’s. So best approach would be Try – Before – Buy. “Minor” problem would be to find store where this approach works for SD cards .
Has anyone tried A-Data 4gb 150x?
Has anyone tried A-Data 4gb 150x? I think this is the cheapest 4GB card out there, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried it on the prophet?
I have just started using a 4GB 'Topram 150x'. Seems to work OK, except can't directly save photos to the SD card. According to other posts, something to do with having more than 2GB of empty memory. However, can transfer photos from main memory to the SD card without any problems. Music and videos appear to store and play back without any problems
SD CARD NOW UP FOR SALE
Still no joy with my new sd card so decided to put it on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7612649443&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:UK:11
Had a word with the staff in the local pc world to let me try before i buy but no go, they said they would not give me my money back either unless the card was faulty. Not that i would buy one from there with the price they charge.
Will keep you all posted on what card i get to work with my SPV M600.
I'm confused
I'm really confused. How can it be that a particular Sandisk 150x speed works, and another one doesn't? Or one 4gb high-speed works, the other doesn't? I can't seem to find a pattern here. Its just random.

My guess is the low speed threshold for high speed SD card actually randomly higher than the normal operation for Prophet hardware. In this case two high speed SD cards which are same type of same manufacture may have randomly different low speed threshold, what is out of concerns of manufacturer. Who would cares about low speed access ability? And now we have to go through risk of buying perfectly good SD card which may not work on our Prophet devices. I hate this.
Hi,
I'm using an Extrememory 2 GB and 4 GB SD-Card. No problems with my Jam aka Magician or XDA Neo aka Prophet.

Hi again here is my SPV M600 AKA Prophet Device info
ROM VERSION 2.10.1.22 WWE
ROM DATE 2/16/06
RADIO 02.07.20
PROTCOL 413.1.03
EXT 2.10.1.107
OPERATOR VERSION 13.10.1.107
Storage CardJ
Just found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7611242138 works out just under £60 for adata 4gb 200x MMC card which apparently has better compatibility.
I upgraded the ROM and I can now save my photos directly to the SD card as long as the picture resolution is 640 x 480 or less. For the higher resoltion photos I have to save to main memory. Can anyone make any sense of this?
Otherwise I am having no problems with the SD card. I am not about to go and buy another one, so I will just use my workaround of saving no main memory and copying to rthe SD card when memory is low.
I've ordered an O2 XDA Mini S, due tomorrow, & was wondering if there was a limit on the size of mini-SD cards it can use?
Cheers
Don't know of an official maximum, but I have a 2GB miniSD in my TMobile USA MDA with no problems.
Cheers.
So you can use at least as high as 2GB...A lot higher than the 128MB limit my old SE P900 has on card size!
I use a 2gb, without problems. When they are released a 4GB card should work, as there are many reports of successful usage in prophets and magicians
Cool. Ordered a 2GB card, should be here in a couple of days
Where did you order your 2gig from, MyMemory.co.uk have decent prices on SanDisk 2gigs.
i also have a 2gig card, bought for around 60 euro and working fine!
Are there already bigger cards than 2gb Mini-SD?

2 Gig storage card not recognized by my Wizard
Hi,
I'm using MDA Vario. I bought 2 Gig storage card. At the first time, my MDA was able to recognize my 2 Gig mini SD. Then I put the card on the card reader on my Laptop in order to copy some file. There was a comment on the dialog box in my laptop that my 2 Gig mini SD has not been formated and the dialog box offered me to format it. Then I clicked yes to proceed the formatting process.
Unfortunatelly, after I format my 2 Gig mini SD using my laptop; My 2 Gig mini SD could not be recognized by my MDA, but my laptop is still able to recognize my 2 Gig mini SD card.
Up to the present I have not been able to use my 2 Gig mini SD on my Wizard since I format it using my Laptop.
I also has formated my 128MB and 256MB mini SD cards using the same laptop and it works on my MDA.
Could you please help me to fix the problem?
regards,
Stones
