Any ideas how to change the boot image on the prophet?
changing boot image
Got this info from PPCSG - so all credit goes to them (especially farbird). This changes the 2nd splash screen (the one with the windows logo on the blue background). The HTC/Dopod splash screen which appears after every reset is still there.
1) copy the welcome96.png file to your desktop from ppc. edit it... do not change the dimensions.
2) save that edited file as 'welcomehead.961.png' and copy it into your ppc /windows folder.
3) open total commander in ppc. go to windows folder, tap on hold on the original welcomehead.96.png, click properties, uncheck all the boxes under attributes. select ok.
4) total commander will refresh the directory, rename it now to 'welcomehead.962.png'. After that look for your edited file copied from the pc ie welcomehead.961.png.. rename it to welcomehead.96.png. after that, tap and hold and click on properties. check the box that says " read only, hidden, system "
once that is done, do a soft reboot. u should be able to see your new bootup screen after the rom version is up.
There is another way using activesync, but it didn't work for me as it gives me a write-protect error.
Do a search here @ xda-dev, u shld get the same info...
Hi,
this does not work on GER Vodafone ROM 2.15.3.26 cause welcome.96.png is in the rom part and not deletable.

Yes, that file is a ROM file and cannot be deleted. BUT if you use TotalCommander, you can rename that file to something else, rename your new splash image file to welcome.96.png, copy it to your windows folder and set its attributes to read only, system, & hidden. AND the changes will be permanent. Try it.
The reason it being a ROM file is why I was unable to copy & paste using the activesync method. But the way I did it works. Make sure you use Total Commander & not resco explorer or the built-in file explorer

Hi Pruta,
O.K., now I was able to rename welcome.96.png and replaced it with my PNG.
Softreset... Sh*t, the 'old' welcome.96.png was shown. O.K., my device wants war...it gets war .
I was able to DELETE the old (original) welcome.96.png.
Softreset... Aaaaahhhhh nothing changed!
O.K. continued search. I found a file named welcomehead.96.png, that is the same image than the original welcome.96.png.
The only prob is, I'm NOT able to rename or delete/replace it.
Are there anybody that also use the Vodafone rom and can test to change the boot image???
Attached file is welcomehead.96.png
If you can change the attributes to exclude System, and Read-Only, it should be able to change/remove it.
Hi krale,
nope. It's not possible to change the attributes. See attached MPG.
I was able to do it with total commander...
here is the link
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=71471&st=40#
thanks for the credit, Putra.
Appreciated.
Do not delete, but overwrite
@farbird: Sure, bro - after all it was your post @ PPCSG that helped me change the splash screen.
Important: do no delete the welcomehead file as it is ROM file, and it will automatically be created again. The trick is to overwrite the file with another file but with EXACTLY the same name and attributes (except ROM). So Windows will not try to create the file again.
After you change the attributes of the original welcomehead file, NO NEED to check if it has changed - Total Commander will show it as NOT changed (meaning all the check marks are still present).
Just go ahead and rename that file, then rename your splash image file to welcomehead.96.png, and set the attributes, and it should work.
I used this trick to "delete" a useless movie file: 1-nature_15fps.mp4 (274K, I think). I created an empty txt file called 1-nature_15fps.txt (0B), copied into the windows folder, performed the trick, and now I have a 1-nature_15fps.mp4 file which is 0 bytes! Just a little experiment, which may come in handy if you really need the space.
Hope the above explains things a little.
HELP!! How to change 1st Splash and HTC splash
Hi EveryBody
i've Imate JamIN
batterystatus overclocked to 286MHz
Rom: PDAVIET 4.0.0.4 (totally stable)
i know how to change the 2nd Splash (concerned of Windows)
but i dont know how to change the 1st Splash (that of Imate or Qtek) OR the Splash concerned of white backgrounded HTC Innovation...
Can anybody help me in full details, step by step and straight commands
NB. I still dont know what is CID, IPL , SPL... (please let me understand these terms)
Welcome ksadek
read the xda wiki to find out what CID IPL and SPL are
The standard programs -- wizSplash and splash_bmp_to_wizard -- produce an error message (ITWRITEDISK). Does anyone know how to change the first splash screen? (I'm using Xelencin's wonder T-Mobile customized version.)
I can change the second splash screen simply by dropping the appropriately sized 320 X 240 24bit png file named welcomehead.96.png in the /Windows directory. But I would like to change the T-Mobile first screen, too.
i am super new in these
but i tried like you described, nothing changed after a reset.
Works for me.
just convert your image in PNG format 24bit.
write the file name: welcomehead.96.png
do not forget the . between 96.
rotate the image and resize it to 320*240 EXACT size. you may need to change aspect ratio.
Then place the file on your storage card and from the storage card copy it or move it to the root windows directory.
Soft reset and enjoy.
damnation
i did it, as i read it, but there is still the beermug my adminfriend put when he changed the device from russian to english. blyadstvo.
nu shalomochka
i will try further

Hi mate
are you saying i can change my tmobile splash screen to anything else..using your method?
do i need any special software or can i just change the image size etc then place it in the windows directory?
Thanks
Second splash screen
This procedure -- welcomehead.96.png -- replaces the second splash screen, which on my MDA says "Windows Mobile." You can replace that by pasting the right kind of file -- a png, 24 bit, 240 X 360 -- over the existing file. I used explorer on activesync, and then just "Cntl V" to past the file. I couldn't delete the original (it is protected) but just replaced it this way. A hard reset would recover the original, but this procedure survives a soft reset.
Replacing the first splash screen is more complicated. There are threads (search for splash_bmp_to_wizard) that tell you how to do it, but they only seem to work on the older ROMs, at least they don't work for me.
To change the 1st Splash Screen download this file:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Splash_images/SplashScreenStuff.zip
There's a ReadMe in the zip file, with these tools I replaced my 1st SplashScreen.

Molski

Isn't there an easier, less complicated way?
Just read the ReadMe good. It's not hard to do
ITWRITEDISK problem
Hello, I was waiting for a long time for a post like this. I still have a question. Does this package handle the write protection (the ITWRITEDISK error message) of the new ROMs ? If someone would be so kind to confirm, then I will try it right away. Thank you all.
That is the allegation
My understanding is that molski's strategy does get around the writedisk error, since that was the problem I encountered.
Please post how it goes, I haven't had time to do this and the value seems low, since the screen is only on for 18 seconds on my unit. Changing the second screen was much easier and lasts a lot longer.
SplashScreenStuff and Checksum Error
I followed the steps from the tutorial. I ended up with the boot screen that showed my custom splash screen image, BUT ... on top of it there was the message "Formatting BinFS" and then at the bottom "CHECKSUM ERROR" and it wouldn't boot further on. PLEASE, could someone who has done it provide some support? I'm trying to change the splashscreen ( I could update the splashscreen before, with some ROMs that didn't have that write protection) for months now. PLEASE could someone help ?
Has anbody got this to work on 2.26.10.2 wwe?
Thanks
CHECKSUM error
It seems I cannot get rid of this "Checksum Error" message. I extracted the splash screen from the newly created ".nbf" with "TyphoonNbfTool_04.exe" and checked it - it's the one that I want to load. The device gets stuck at boot time with the new splash screen. PLEASE, can someone help with this error message?
This works

How does it work?
Thank you for your reply. How does the splashes from this link work? I mean - can I change the splash screen with one I made or I have to use only the ones prepared by M. Faria?
His programs only install the splash screens illustrated there, I chose the bluish one. But there are also instructions on how to do your own.
Still cannot change splashscreen
I tried those ones, too, still I get the CHECKSUM ERROR message. I can reflash OK the device and it works OK, but any time I want to change the splashscreen with either LewCamino's or Faria's tool I get this message.
PLEASE HELP as I really don't know want to do any more. Thank you all!
I may have read the various tutorials wrong, because I have not been able to change the first (Tmo) screen in the 2.26 rom I am running.
Has anyone done this bootscreen change yet in the 2.26???
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.
How to modify boot image in htc touch ?
Which boot image? There are more than one. For the last one, you can change the picture in Windows called welcomehead.96, but for the others, you need to make an nbh file with only the splash screens you want in it.

How do you disable the welcomehead image from startup?
Hey all.
I am owning a HTC Diamond. Indian Version.
when i boot my phone there is an image turning up.
i figured out to be an image called airtel_480X640.gif.
which is in my main windows folder.
i want to either delete the file or replace the pic with an vodafone image.
can anyone guide me on how to delete/replace a file which is protected in the windows folder
What about Total Commander??
But about splash screen there should be an option to change it in registry or if it is a "boot screen" then flash another one
The problem is how could you delete a file from windows folder in STOCK Rom.
I am trying to change the welcomeahead.192.png without any success.
Use Advanced Config.
Under HTC Animation settings, select the first option: Startup GIF file.
Change the path under this setting to the path of the image you want as the startup image, but remember, it should be a gif image.
Keep the image in the phone memory preferably, so that it can load without any delay at the time of the startup.
After pressing 'Done', soft-reset the device.
Hey there. i downloaded a cab which makes me see the bootscreen (SE logo) an the animation (xperia) in my windows folder. i want to change the bootscreen, but i have no rights to delete and write in the windows folder.
so how to change the original screen with my new screen?

Use File explorer extension, total ommander or resco explorer
1- rename the original file to BAK or whatever you remember
2-copy the new file into \windows\
There are 3 bootsreens
SEMC***.GIF isthe startup animation
welcomehead.192.png is the green Windows screen
As an explmple, I copied I my own welcomehead.192.NEW.png to \windows\ renamed the original file to welcomehead.192.BAK.png and then renamed welcomehead.192.NEW.png to welcomehead.192.png
Reset and changes wll apply

A thumbnail would be fine
You can upload a thumb to tinypic.com or else
Thanks for sharing
Here's the Thumbnail.
But do you have a tip for me? i copied the screen to my windows folder. i'm getting asked if i want to overwrite it. i agree, but if i reboot my x1 i don't see my new screen
Check
It appears that (like desktop Windows) the Xperia performs a check on boot of the file details. If the file is deemed "corrupted" it is replaced by the original from an unknown location.
Since you file quite likely does not match a hash check, or possibly is saved in the wrong format, it gets replaced.
I had this problem and as of yet have been unable to make an image that the device will accept.
yeah must be some kind like this but i want to have my own startupscreen!!
