I've been waiting for AKU2 ever since it was announced back around Christmas. It finally got released from Imate today and after flashing my KJAM there is still no Stereo Headset profile??? What gives? Anybody know why it's not there, I thought this was supposed to be one of the big features of AKU2 besides push mail?
I read on another forum (I only quickly looked, honest, this is the only forum for me) that the A2DP profile caused the device to slow down too much and they were removing it for that reason. When I read it it was just a rumor but it looks like they were correct.
I dare say after some more tweaking that it will return as the slowdown only occurs when the profile is active.
If you really need it use the Qtek 2.8.x.x rom on the FTP server as it is very stable if not fully optimised.
Well, that sounds like a reasonable explanation. Given that the Wizard is barely 200mhz and A2DP is a CPU hog. But DANG IT, they should have released it and just had a pop up warning or something,"Performance may be impacted during music playback via the Bluetooth headset." Or something at least. I don't mind if the PPC is sluggish while I'm listening to Podcasts! ARGH!
I heard the Qtek ROM was kinda buggy. I'm not sure I want to flash to something that's gonna make my phone unstable all the time. Have you used that ROM?
I am using the Qtek aku2. Its far from buggy.
As far as i can say they could have made it general available.
Using the Qtek ROM as well [just got a pair of stereo BT headsets yesterday] and I don't see any performance issues as well. Maybe it also depends on what you have installed on your device. I probably won't be updating the imate ROM if it doesn't have a2dp. I don't need the push email but I am enjoting the BT music streaming heehee
Try out the Qtek ROM it might be ok for your device.

No offense but you seem to be saying imate should have released it with A2DP bugs, but you don't want to use the qtek beta because it might have bugs. Err make your mind up dude.
I don't think sluggish performance using A2DP is necessarily a bug. Given that the processor is only 200mhz and streaming 128kbps stereo audio over Bluetooth is processor intensive, it's probably just the nature of the beast. It may turn out that Qtek will remove A2DP from their final ROM as well after they get feedback about the beta firmware.
Do you guys know if the Qtek beta ROM fixed the Storage Card disconnecting issue? Because the KJAM AKU2 update has finally resolved this issue for me. I can leave programs open on the storage card and turn the device off and on and the programs don't crash out anymore.
Can you please post a WORKING link to the QTEK9100 AKU2 Test ROM with the working A2DP? The ones I've found are not working. Otherwise, can someone arrange to email it to me?
Has anyone here tried the QTEK9100 AKU2 ROM on an unlocked US Tmobile MDA?
i was also pretty annoyed that A2DP had been left out of this update as i had bought myself a set of stereo bluetooth headphones for xmas in anticipation of the update and now they will continue to sit on a shelf gathering dust.
I thought why not email i-mate - [email protected] - and ask them. To tell you the truth i was not expecting an answer (or at least not for several days) as with my previous experiences.
Well i was pleasantly surprised (amazed even) that i-mate replied to my email within 3 hours. They said:
Thank you for your E-mail. Regarding your query, please note that our engineers are working to integrate the A2DP profile on Windows Mobile 5 devices via ROM upgrades but we do not have yet any information or release date for this update hence, we would suggest that you keep a regular check on the www.clubimate.com for further information about new upgrades, releases and services.

I thought this is cool but wanted confirmation that A2DP would be released as an update for the K-JAM and current devices and not just future / new devices so i asked them to confirm this for me, This time i recieved a reply within minutes:

Overall i must say this was the best support experience i have ever had from i-mate. Maybe they are listening to us after all. Of course no timeframes as is the i-mate way but it does look promising for us.

wow! when I owned an i-mate JAM I waited for 2 weeks until I got a reply. I guess i-mate is learning to treat their customers better... too bad I already switched to dopod and since Manila has a very small difference in time [dopod's singapore office - I think a few hours] I usually get replies within the day... still like i-mate dopod has no timeline and answers with the generic lines...

Theres been a few recent posts around here and other forums speculating exactly why A2DP did not make it into the recent i-mate update.
Some of these posts have been suggesting that the A2DP 128k audio stream is too resource intesive for the Wizard's 200MHz Ti Omap850 CPU.
So, i thought i would ask one of the Microsoft Mobility guys on his MSDN Blog to see if he could confirm this. Whilst he was not actually able to tell us the reason of the hold up, he has confirmed its not likely to be the CPU: Read his Blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2006/03/02/542036.aspx
Jason Langridge - Chris - no that's not accurate - I have it running on other devices with similar CPU specifications. re: A2DP - Ultimately it's an i-mate decision what is/isn't included in their releases.

I know that it doesn't mention support for XDA, but it is a patch for Windows Mobile 2003, so it may just work. Has anyone tried it?
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...92&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=88989
Headset works fine in the XDA II
I miss the point, headset works fine, it's handsfree that we are missing.
I doubt you should attempt to load the patch.

Michael
WARNING. Don't try it. I lost sound after I loaded that "patch". It doesn't work with XDA II.
Fortunately I wanted to update my ROM to the Dangaard ROM anyway....
This is just for PDA's not having bluetooth headset profiles (Just for listening to music and the likes).
As mentioned, what we need is the handsfree profile to be implemented, How long will it take?
someone is working on it I think.......
I guess than means I didn't actually understand the bluetooth problem correctly.
Incidentally, I called O2 to find out if there is any news on when the update will be released, and was told 'it should be the end of this month, but don't quote me on that'.

I have installed the patch(es) that 'Horsy' mentioned and my TomTom, BT200 (23B) and activesync all now work, headset capabilities to come! Definitely worth a paypal donation!
the site is very slow, try this
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de
Well I've installed it, and it doesn't seem to have broken anything, but I haven't had a chance to test it properly yet.
Now if only we could get the handsfree problem sorted!
Sucessfully downloaded and installed the WWE imate ROM on their web site and reinstalled all apps without any problem.
Maybe I am too quick to conclusions, but I noticed NO CHANGE AT ALL!!!
Bluetooth is exactly as before, call quality is unchanged, the *&^%* Jam still cannot send anything by Infrared and worse, the Camera quality is now worse than pre patch!
Overall not a bad upgrade really, just a waste of time and effort!
I finally got all my apps installed as well. Wasn't easy. And to sum it all up, I didn't notice any discernable differences. Sound quality is the same. Stability is the same.
Anyone know what fixes and updates were supposed to be included in the update? Or did anyone find anything at all to be any different?
The only thing I can tell that it did was make my mp3's sound horrible. Very muddy sounding. I'm about to odwnload pocket music and see if the eq on there can fix it. Also looking for a way to downgrade.
Question for you imaters:
I had an imate for 3 weeks and sent it back to Amazon, bought the MDA Compact instead.
T_mobile has no support for this phone : they built correctly the first time
BT Active Sync with PC, no problem, but I never managed this with Imate
BT with GPS, worked with both IMATE & MDA
The MDA rom is stable, has good sound, photo's are ok, like all HTC devices.
So why not just leave Imate and change to the MDA UK Rom??

This makes sense as the operators often do a fair amount of the own device QA, change requests, etc. when they look at any new device. If they don't, they pay for it in customer support. Imate being a relatively new company has yet to prove whether or not it has the same structured approach to their product management. I tell you one thing, Imate will certainly not have the same amount of resources available to them nor will they have as much attention from HTC. That said there is a lot to be said for not being an operator when it comes to efficiency (but that is a different story). Enough editorial...
Does anyone know what the major differences are between the new imate ROM and the current MDA UK ROM? Has anyone used both and/or done a side by side comparison? Does it work on other networks? I'd be interested to hear more.
Ian Wood
I had both
I had both and the major difference lay in the sound and the Bluetooth. Which is why I sent the Imate back.
Besides that, I have had an XDA1, XDA2, and the mda is the most stable rom yet (though the 2003 SE was pretty good on XDA2)
Also price, Imate =389GBP, Amazon, MDA=240GBP, given that it works better, it was a no brainer here.

Is that with regards to stability and quality or are there more features as well? In your estimation, is the difference worth a full reinstall? Thanks for the feedback btw.
Ian
imho the new rom is NOT worth a hard reset and all the reinstalling/reconfiguring/resyncing that goes with it.
to be blunt, I cannot see the difference unless I REALLY go looking for it.
I did the upgrade no problems, and my sound quality is a bit better. (less tinny) I recommend that if you do the upgrade use a quality backup program like sprite backup. I simply restored my previous backup over this upgrade and it went smoothly. I understand a fresh start is also sometimes preferable for for testing and If no problems, then I stick with this. If I start having difficuties then I'll reboot. The reduced hassles makes the 20-30 bucks for sprite backup worth it.

ROM: 1.03.00 WWE
Radio: 1.01.00
ExtROM: 1.03.143WWE
But looking at the iMate website I cannot see a WWE ROM... can I use the USA ROM or should I wait for the WWE ROM?
Cannot get a ROM
I have tried following the link that everyone has for the ROM at:
ClubIMate . . .
ma_cdlsku1_wwe_10300_143_10100_ship.exe
ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe
But I get Page Cannot Be Displayed.
My previous experience with I-Mate, having bought a used JAM, was that I now had to buy a membership and get an ID and Password to get anything.
Does anyone have the file OFF SITE from the club, or does anyone have a password, yada yada?
Barring all that, has anyone built a better ROM than that? Is there a kitchen available for it?

Does anyone know whether its possible for Stereo sound with the version of Bluetooth on the JasJar?
It has Bluetooth version 1.2, someone told me that Stereo was only supported in Bluetooth version 2.0.
However, after some investigation I now think that this is actually not version specific, but rather whether the OS supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). WM5 does support A2DP.
So, I think that it will actually work on the Jasjar, my question is, has anyone tried it and can confirm that it does work? WHat headsets are you using?
Sorry guys, currently bluetooth v1.1, not v1.2 as I stated earlier..
New ROM should be out soon for Universal that will allow this - it's currently in testing right now, but should be out before March.
So to answer your question: No, not yet, but soon.
That soon is six months now.......
We are waiting for Win CE update since forever. It has not chnaged since the phone started shipping (see the build numbers)
Only German roms seem to have been updated - but whats the use - we dont understand German.
Smile for buying a beta phone.
Naw.. last year they said it was coming in 2006. This year theyve been saying its coming in March since January. So as long as it really does come out in March theyll have kept to their word.
Any news? :/ i want some damn stereo
I thought that upgrading the radio stack to 1.0.6 (or I believe 1.0.8 is now available at Buzz's site) allowed you to use stereo Bluetooth? I'm sure I saw it in a thread here somewhere....
Edit: Sorry, must've been dreaming. Can't find anything that comes close to backing this up!

Hello.
I bought a stereo headset from Qstarz "BH-Q395S".
Using no tweaks.. Quality is low. Like low bit rate.
Using the fit4cat tweaker , sound sounds as it is higher quality BUT it is distorted in the high`s.
Is this the normal problem everyone is having ?
What can I do ?
Does ROM updates help this issue ?
Do you think the HTC headset will be better (s100)?
BTW. When paired with my PC , sound is great.

The A2DP support in pre-AKU3 MS BT stack sucks and this can't really be helped. AKU3 is said to have eliminated this problem.

I don't think so. It might be better (as are some - few! - models, for example, the Jabra), but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

1, the release date of the TyTN AKu3 ROM (if any) is unknown
2, the A2DP quality issues of the pre-AKU3 ROM can't be fixed (unless someone extracts the related DLL files from an AKU3 ROM in a way that is compatible with previous ROM's).
The only way to avoid the quality issues is going staright for the Jabra headsets (or going for another PDA with the Widcomm BT stack - or any Palm OS device, for that matter). See my discussions of this issue over at PPCT and HowardForums.

The HowardForums folks say the pre-AKu3 MS BT A2DP works flawlessly with the Jabra 620, unlike with the 590A and some other models.
I have a Jabra 620 and I'm not that impressed. The only headset I have had which worked completely flawlessly was an Itech S35 (but no AVRCP unfortunately).
I'm currently using a Nokia HS-12W which only hiccups if the Hermes is busy doing other things (but I've had to set the bitpool value to 48 decimal to achieve that).
All in all, I can't wait to see what happens when AKU3 arrives! Just as long as they don't break more than they fix ;-)

We all know that this BT stereo implimentation sucks! Main problem is that EDR is not implemented correctly (note bumph on this phone does not show it as others do!) BUT!! if you have tried to use ANY A2DP enhancement CABs then make sure you have usejointstereo set to 0 and pick up an iTech clip S35 (as they work OK without EDR) to use with any decent headphones and you will be fine...

The sound quality on the 620 is reasonable and it doesn't actually skip too badly, but I find that the RF performance is sadly lacking - if I use it anywhere where there's any other wireless signals around, it keeps giving periods of silence. For example, if I try to use it when shopping in the nearest supermarket to my office, from the moment I go into the store, I can only get odd bursts of music - about 1 second for every 5 seconds of silence. When I leave the store, it reverts to working reasonably again. This isn't just with my Hermes, it used to do exactly the same when using it with my Wizard as well.
The Itech S35 is the only A2DP device that has ever worked perfectly with my Hermes (with the bitpool set to decimal 58) without any skipping. Unfortunately, I really wanted AVRCP, so I've just bought a Nokia HS-12W and I'll see how that performs. So far I've had to set the bitpool down to decimal 30 to eliminate skipping, but I can live with that.

Let me disagree. EDR has little to do with this stuff as you do NOT need EDR to transfer stuff at 256 or 320 kbps. It certainly good to have but is not a requirement for A2DP. This is why, for example, BT 1.1/1.2/2.0-without-EDR-only Widcomm or Palm OS devices have no problems with the sound quality (ever tried to listen to a, say, year 2003 Tunfgsten T3 to A2DP? It is flawless.) - unlike with the MS BT stack.
I'd say this is ONLY an algorithmic problem in the A2DP encoder in the MS BT stack. (I've pretty much gone into details on the matter in my articles and over at PPCT and HowardForums. The problem can not be fixed by any recently known hacks.)

Ford's probably using stereo bluetooth for its connection. You need to enable your phone with A2DP first, then do the pairing. I have had good luck with the Tornado version of A2DP for the Wizard, but only after I overclocked my phone's processor, and made some minor adjustments to the data rates at a registry level.
If you're a noob, you need to do a LOT of reading before trying this, or you'll lose your ability to generate sound altogether. Not as dramatic as bricking your phone, but makes it almost as useless...
Just search these boards, the answers are here. Search.

Normally, this is where I say, "Start a new thread, for this new question, because nobody is going to open this thread to answer that question."
However, you've asked a question that usually results in the person asking being lambasted (read: flamed) for asking a question that is, in most cases, a matter of total opinion. As has been said many times before, about this subject:
What's best for you isn't what's best for (nearly) anyone else.

So....that said, I recommend you look at the Wizard Mobile 6 boards, read the Wizard wiki THOROUGHLY, and know your phone very well before you even consider trying to load a cooked ROM, or you will have an expensive paperweight instead of an incredibly useful tool.
Whatever you do, please do not post a question like "What's the best ROM for me?" because only YOU can answer that question, and only after you educate yourself to what's possible, and what your specific needs are.
If you just want to sync your phone to your car, then stick with the A2DP upgrade, and an overclock (OMAPCLOCK via SmartsKey is my preferred method of overclocking). That's my advice, free of charge.
