Phone Profiles - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I know holding the Comm manager button toggles sound and vibrate mode.
I was just wondering if there's an app out there where we can access from the today screen where with a tap and we can choose different pre-configured sound modes, i.e. like the Phone profiles on a Nokia phone.

xda2 hints and tips

these are just a few hints and tips please feel free to add more
xda2 gprs switch off
this is a little known feature, but one which is very very useful. if your xda2 for some reason connects to a gprs connection you can easily turn it off again by pressing the red button (phone down key) for 2~3 seconds. avoiding the problem of having to switch off and switch on the wireless connection.
###############################################
xda2 speaker phone
when in a call, you can activate the xda2 speaker phone by pressing the green button (pick up phone) for 2~3 seconds.
###############################################
xda2 camera
when using the camera you can press the top left button on the handset (contacts button) to change the orientation of the icons on the screen.
###############################################
screen brightness
the screen is a very bright one, squeeze more life out of the battery by turning it down. go to start - settings - system - power : click on the word back light at the bottom and adjust to about half way for when running off the battery. half way is a very usable brightness, you can go lower if you don't mind it being slightly dim.
###############################################
accidental pressing of buttons
by default pressing any button on the xda2 will switch the machine on. you can stop all buttons activating the xda2 (bar the power switch) by going to start - settings - button lock : select lock all buttons except power button.
###############################################
sending a video clip via mms
to send a video clip via mms you have to change the format to which it is saved. go to start - programs - camera (or just start the camera). click on the screwdriver and wrench icon. click tools - options : click the video tab. in the capture format drop down box highlight H.263 - this is the standard 3gp mobile video phone format.
###############################################
adding your own sound to a xda2 action
you can add your own sounds to xda2 notifications, like receiving an sms, by simply creating the sound you want as a wav file. you can do this on your main computer (sound recorder in "start - programs - accessories - entertainment - sound recorder" is a simple piece of software to do this). then pass the file onto the xda2 using activesync / email / etc... you must copy the file into the "my device - windows" folder using file explorer. next go to settings, choose "sounds & notifications". click on the notifications tab, choose the event you want to assign the sound to e.g. "inbox: new sms message". make sure play sound is selected with a tick - now choose the sound that you have just copied into the "my device - windows" folder from the drop down box.
Nice one..
One or two i didnt know...
Thanx...
ignoring incoming calls
A helpful one:
When u receive a call that u don't wanna answer, instead of rejecting it by pressing "ignore or the red phone button, u can push the volume button up or down putting the ringer off. The caller won't get the busy signal and won't know u deliberately rejected his call.
When Phone application is active, pressing the 5-way navigation key
Up: goto call history
Down: goto speed dials
When sound is turned off (ie X) then pushing volume slider up once will take it to vibrate mode, and pushing again takes u back to normal sound levels.
Doesn't seem to be a way of doing the reverse though?
battery saving
install software that you use often on your XDA storage and NOT on an extra SD storage card. This saves much battery (less card-IO).
Abroad meeting/appointment alerts
If you travel a lot for meetings in different time zones, don't creat the calendar entry in your current time zone, instead, change the time zone to the destination, creat the calendar item then get back to your time zone. Otherwise the reminder will not set off properly.
1. pressing and holding the power button for 2-3 sec toggles the backlight on/off
2. Hold the Action Button and tap on the clock at the right hand corner of the screen; It will pop up a menu with the Run Option. Then you can use the run as your command prompt.
3. how to:

Hi, I could not find how to decrease or stop the volume of reminders' notification. I find it so irritating when it rings increasingly, and so difficult to stop as I must first open the screen before being able to press the screen and stop it.
Cool... Nice one dude!

Shortcuts for silent, vibrate, one ring etc

Are there shortcuts to activate/deactivate silent mode and vibrate mode or is the menu or volume button the only way? Sometimes I want to increase the volume and switch on vibrate, which doesn't seem possible unless you go into the menu. Also is there a way to set it to one ring only, or beep mode?
You can install any of the "switch mode" widget that you can find in Market, but the fastest way to change suond profile is push the volume down button for more than 2 seconds, phone will put in silent mode, then push once volume up to set it to vibrate. Push volume up for more than 2 seconds to restore full ring
Yep, seems to be the fastest way to change the volume and set silent, a bit annoying that it beeps along the way but no big deal.
But, if you do that to set it on vibrate, it doesn't seem to work for text messages... those stay silent because they have a separate setting to vibrate. WHY?!?!!!
Always seemed like an easy thing on symbian & windows mobile, you hold one button or a couple of clicks later everything is set to vibrate, especially useful if outdoors and can't hear messages.
I just hold down the END key and select "Silent Mode". Is that not an option on your phone?
Check out egg 'n stones' "Profiles" application in the market. You can define and set profiles from the application plus you can create shortcuts to any profile. For every profile you can set the volume of the different types of sounds (alarms, notifications, media, speech, etc.) It's my favourite profile manager.
Cheers.
thanks, i'll check it out
Or just install these widgets from Jerpelea's rom page. You can find the widgets link on the palm pre theme rom, 2nd post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538633
There is a really nice 1 button widget that sits on your home screen and you can press it and it cycles between silet, vibrate and ring.
Just allow the phone to accept 'unkown sources' in the application menu. Then access the widgets from the sd card (save them there) and then you can install them.
I have got a wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, brightness & volume widget that all have little blue icons that match downloaded from the marketplace..
there from Rounded Labs.. All free as well
my phone started acting weird lately. I can switch to silent or vibrating mode with the volume button when I first turn on the phone, but after I make one phonecall it stops that function and starts working as a up-down button that can navigate within the menu items and such.
I have checked all of the settings options that might have an affect on this, but couldn't find anything yet.
Any suggestions as for how I can fix this?
Vibrate all??
My volume buttons controlled all the notifications and sounds on my previous Android phones. That is NOT the case on the Samsung Vibrant. It will only control the volume for the incoming call ringer. I would have to go to settings for every notification volume to lower them and set them to vibrate. The only option I've found is t set the volume all the way down to silent on the side of the phone which will silence everything. The problem is, there is ZERO notification whatsoever. No led, no sound, no vibrate.
Isn't there a way to have the volume control all the sounds and vibration mode on the phone as a global setting?

Help With Start Menu Grid and Vibrate Mode

Hello, I tried doing some searches for these, but could use a little help. I'm looking for a fix for my stock ROM to arrange my start menu icons to a rectangular grid instead of the default staggered layout. Sort of like the Android app launcher or iPhone layout. I know about c00kie's home tab, but I'm not interested in all the functionality it provides, just a regedit or cab I can install to rearrange my icons in start menu.
My second issue is with the Vibrate profile. Whenver I listen to music through my headphones while on vibrate mode, the system volume auto switches the vibrate mode off, which is fine. But when I disconnect my headphones, I would like for it to switch back to vibrate mode automatically because sometimes I forget. What makes it worse is that it defaults to silent mode after, so I can't hear if someone calls me. Is there a solution to this? Or maybe a cab that separates ring/system volume settings from media playback volume settings? I like how my old MyTouch can keep the vibrate profile the same even while listening to music.
google awesome start cab
that will arrange your icons in a list format
as for a profiler I rarely use them =/

[Q] Setting aria to silent

Ok total newb question, however this is my first smart phone ever. How do you set the ringer to silent? The only way I can manage is to go into Sound and Display settings and lower the ringer volume all the way down. Is there a shortcut that I am missing or is this the only way to do it?
1 step up from all the way down with the volume control on the left side of the phone.

Click to collapse
Just use the volume rocker on the left side of the phone. Pressing it down all the way to the second to last setting puts it into silent mode (the absolute lowest setting, oddly enough, is vibrate).
From what I remember seeing, there should also be market apps that will let you place a widget on one of your homescreens which allows you to quickly put your phone on silent.
Just hold the power button for two seconds
Then choose silent or vibrate
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
You can download the Profile widget from HTC that will allow you to switch between Normal, Vibrate, and Silent easily.
1) Long press on a home screen.
2) Select Widget, then Get more HTC widgets.
3) Download Profile widget.
4) Press back to return to the Add widget menu.
5) Select Settings, then Profile to add the widget to your home screen.
