ok, this used to work just fine on my older SP3i, but now my 8125 with the leaked AKU2 rom cannot set the Operator names in the registry. i have set them up exactly the same way, but everytime i reboot, it always comes up as Cingular instead of what i choose. has anyone come up with this and or fixed this problem. thanks also if anyone knows the values of Cingular towers? ie 310410, etc...

Since i updated to the new Qtek 2.17.7.2 WWE ROM my Wizard seems to be convinced that i'm connected to Proximus BE network instead of T-Mobile NL network. Now i'm quite sure my Wizard hasn't got enough power to reach Belgium from where i live so i must be connected to the T-Mobile network. Also when i search for networks from the phone settings i also get to see the T-Mobile network instead of Proximus.
Does anybody know what the problem could be and where i can change the name of the network?
Besides that little but annoying problem the ROM seems a huge improvement.
Thanks,
Chris
There is a registry key that allows you to show any text in the dialer based on the network id's.
Use a registry editor to search for the text you see (literally).
Simply remove the key and the dialer should show the text that is sent over the network.
If you cant find the text in registry . . . .no clue
(I once posted a reply on a thread in the Himalaya section on this)
I thought it interesting that the QTek rom told me I was connected to "Get More..." when every other ROM I've used all tell me I'm connected to "T-Mobile". At least they both reference the same company!
I just thought of another way you could see another network in the dialer as the network name youre really connected to.
In the \windows folder there can be a carrielogo.gif file.
If it exists (and it does on T-Mobile roms) you will never see the actual network name in the dialer but the contents of the carrierlogo.gif file (which is obviously a logo of the operator that distributed the rom).
there are threads on this to find but basically you can only do one thing here: copy the carrierlogo.gif file (using totalcommander) to you PC, erase the contents (or put in your own picture) and copy it back (ignore the rom file warning).
afaik the Qtek and iMate roms do not have a carrierlogo.gif file.
T-Mobile roms do have one, not sure about O2 or Vodafone.
I found exactly one reference to the Proximus string in the State part of the registry. After i changed it to T-Mobile all the screens showed T-Mobile, but after a reset or a reconnect to the GSM network it changes back to Proximus. Really weird because the scan network screen shows the correct name after scanning. Strange bug, but i seem to be the only one that has got it. Oh well, that's life (with software).
Signed_GPRS-stall_Wizard_TMOUS_DEC20.CAB
On mine through a process of elimination I determined that the T-Mobile customization file: Signed_GPRS-stall_Wizard_TMOUS_DEC20.CAB was causing the wrong carrier to show up.
I just got my new phone today so I've been play around with it. It seems pretty slow so I tried the trick of doing a hard reset and then soft reseting before it started to load the extended roms.
I then entered the GPRS settings manually.
Everything works (or so it seems). I can make phone calls... I can connect to the net, and the phone seems a little faster then with the extended rom installed.
So my question is... do I need the extended rom? I don't mind missing out on some cingular spash screens and ring tones. I don't need the Goodlink or Xpress Mail included on the extended rom. Is anyone else doing or heard of people using their phone without problems this way?
I'd say everything is good to go but I see a lot of threads with people mentioning "needed" extended rom files. I just want to make sure what I'm doing is ok before I really start to tweak my phone.
Hello guitarlp,
I did the same thing as you with my T-Mobile MDA. Installed the Qtek ROM 2.17 and aborted the extended ROM customization.
I did setup my t-mobile gprs manually - works fine.
Phone works, SMS works.
MMS current don't work as I did not load t-mobile customization. I have simply to find out how to configure the registry to get MMS working properly, but that is currently not my priority. I prefer a lot my MDA with ZERO t-mobile customization.
Thanks for the reply. I don't use MMS but every once in a while someone sends me one. No biggie though... I'd rather have a fast bloat-free phone over MMS.
But I beleive if we get hold of our extended rom we can install a file or two to get MMS working correctly right?
That's great news... That's the info I'm searching for.
I'm gettting my MDA tonite. I want to unbrand everything. Can I just slap a QTEK ROM in there? What other things do I need to look out for?
first unlock?
I will be using it with Cingular.

I'm using Cingular 8525 on US T-mobile network, internet set to t-mobile settings, I can connect through GPRS or wifi with Opera browser, bur if I use IE, it always display an error message: "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." no matter what site I try.
Getting desperate, any help is appreciated!
My limited understanding is that Cingular hard coded their proxy settings in to PIE and thus it does not matter what settings you have specified in the connection settings menu, it will still try and use Cingular's Proxy.
There is a fix....search for it...
Dan
I found the posts about the hard coded proxy setting, but I'm using AKU2.3 ROM and do not have the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings] "EnableAutoDetect" key.
After hard reset and re-install some programs, the connection was ok first, then started to show that error message again.
Is this proxy setting located in somewhere else in AKU2.3 ROMs?
I am not sure to behonest with you. I do not even know if it was employed in the 2.3 AKU.
I will edit my post later when I am in front of TyTN there is one other thing to try that might fix it..

Yeah the problem is that is comes back if you only change it from 1 or 0....DELETE the "EnableAutoDetect" key and it wont come back. You lose all Cingular Proxy though so if you are on Cingular and want MediaNet or CV then do not do this.

Thanks Dan. I did search and found no [EnableAutoDetect] setting anywhere in the registry. But I think you are right that this is a Cingular hard coded IE issue since Opera connects anytime. Please let me know if you found anything.
Cheers

Hi wpbear, thanks. but I don't have the [EnableAutoDetect] key to begin with. I don't care much about the cingular stuff since I'm on t-mobile network.
I guess I will upgrade to the AKU3.3 rom, and hope the problem will go away
Found the cause myseslf, but don't know why:
It seems that every time I connect to activesync, something in the registry is changed, then PIE cannot connect to the internet. I can't figure out what registry key was changed, so I have to restore the entire registry in order to used PIE again.
Anyone had this problem before?
I have an MDA Compact (Wizard) with WM6 installed. The cab file for O2 network settings I used to use prior to WM6 no longer works - it doesn't change anything. I've tried following instructions for other phones but they don't work - has anyone got MMS to work on O2 under WM6? If so any help appreciated
if the settings that worked before no longer works
and t-mobile dident change then i'd say the issue is spc
for your device's wm6 rom
and asking in the Wizard Mobile 6 forum would give a bigger chance of success
Yes it works, although I too had a cab which used to set it up automatically along with my GPRS settings which now no longer works.
Attached is the instructions sent to me from O2 for my Wizard (works on my Hermes WM6). I followed the GPRS one first, then the WAP one, then the MMS one. I did reg dumps before and after and then made my own cab which (almost) works.
Thanks
Thanks for the above - I'll give it a go
Is there any way to get latest network configuration settings cab coz my rom don't have it. Newer roms have it but they are slower than this one so I don't want to use new rom. I found one on the internet, but that file is from 2007.
Thanx
what do you mean network config ?
as in gprs and mms settings?
if so then unless your operator have a habbit of
changing their settings often leaving all their
customers fustrated i daresay that using a 2007 would be
acceptable
I was thinking on Network Wizard, who starts anytime I reset my device coz there is no settings for my provider (which is new and operate about year in my country)... I found new setting in some other new rom but that rom is slower much more than this one that I use. So I need external cab with latest settings to install. I have a Kaiser.
Thanx
P.S. I check it again and that is a windows called Connection Setup where is message that my operator don't exist in database and to ask operator for connection settings. In new rom this thing automatic recognize my operater but in this older faster rom i don't have latest version and there is no matching in database
if your operator support mms and gprs there are settings
non wm phones use the same settings as wm phones
even if the users never see the settings
so if they support gprs and mms there are settings
you can use

Automatic Network settings confuguration when SIM card changed
Does the Wizard for Kaiser also work on Fuze?
I have a Fuze and also the HTC MAX 4G - when I switch SIM card on 4G - it automatically notifies me that my SIM card does not match the Operator Settings and if I want to change settings automatically - if I say "Yes" it reconfigures the settings automatically and all works perfect.
However if I do same on Fuze - change the SIM from AT&T to Swisscom - it will not aquire th esettings - I have to do it manually, which means I have to have these written down.
I wonder if there is a setting to enable th eaouto network configurator as MAX 4G and Fuze both use WM6.1 and are made by HTC.
im guessing that the network wizard is OS dependant - EG if you have an xperia wm6.1 then it will work on kaiser 6.1.
I am looking for a cab for HTC Connection Setup 1.5.34057.2. I've been all over this forum and can't find it. I might have to go back to the one from the Kaiser.
