Is there a way to make a shortcut to a midlet? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I really like opera mini and google local, but its a bit of a hassle to get to them. I know I can make a shortcut to the midlet manager, but I'd like to be able to link to the individual files. I tried making shortcuts to the .jar and .jad files in the Application Data\Tao....... file, but that just tried to reinstall the midlet.

Did you try to use launchers like cLauncher?

You probably need to make a shortcut to the midlet manager with command line properties to the specific midlet.

Here's a thread that's as close as a shortcut that's suggested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=226466#226466
Hope that helps.
FYI, I gave up using the midi and now using opera instead of the mini.

How would I do a command line link to the midlet through the mamager? (\windows\jmm.exe" opera mini) doesnt work, tried (\windows\jmm.exe" operaamini) too because that was the name of its folder. it loads the manager and then gives "error, cannot install midlet"

I sent an e-mail to TAO and they told me to contact Cingular (I use an 8125). Spent 45min with cingular support and all they came up with was a number to call HTC. Spent 30 min with HTC support and they told me to talk to TAO. Maybe this isn't possible?

guttrhead: how do you normally launch a midlet? I never use java so can't recall. Do you double click it or go to the midlet manager to load it?

"... jmm.exe" -rOpera Mini,Opera Software ASA,Opera Mini

Hi, I use a magician , the shortcuts you have given do not seem to work. I have tried various combinations like within quotes and what not. What happens is that when I invoke this shortcut, the Midlet Manager Window opens very briefly for less than a second and closes immediately.
Anyhelp would be appreciated
Thanks

any solution for this? (I'm using opera mini 4 beta)

The nearest solution I can come up with is using mortscript. You can launch a mortscript like any other program and you can have it open the midlet manager and start the midlet. It would be based on keypresses though, so it could break if you installed more midlets.

Got midlet shortcut to work
Go to jmm.exe and hold down on the icon of opera - move to about and copy down the information.
Your link should read:
"\windows\jmm.exe" -r"[INSERT NAME OF FILE like Opera Mini or Opera Mini 4.1]","Opera Software ASA","[INSERT DESCRIPTION OF FILE like Opera Mini 4.1]"
The end result for me (after I renamed the midlet to Opera Mini from Opera Mini 4.1) was as follows:
"\windows\jmm.exe" -r"Opera Mini","Opera Software ASA","Opera Mini 4.1"
That should work.

I use Magic Button. Nice prog to view open apps in the background and is freeware. Allows quick swithing to today screen.
Also nice is Task Manager. Shows all processes and is also freeware.
And for single hand phone operation: Finger Clix
Can be downloaded here, 7 days trial for free: http://www.pocketgear.com/ppcw/software_detail.asp?id=10595
FINGERCLIX
FingerClix is the best phone dialer for the XDA (I and II). The whole concept of one hand dialing has changed, and using the XDA became even easier than standard mobile phones.
a hack to move around installed programs
Anyone know a way to organise installed programs so that you can decide what folders they appear in ?
Using the File Explorer, open Windows, then Start Menu.
You will see a list of shortcuts of the same programs that you get when you click on Start.
Open the folder named Programs.
Here, you have the shortcuts to all your programs
Now, you can create new folders, cut and paste shortcuts from one folder to another...
The fastest way is to access all this through your PC via ActiveSync. It is faster to move the icons, and you can create shortcuts to programs that you had to copy directly to your XDA, and put the shortcut in the Programs menu...
THANK YOU
Thank you very much,

Thanks. Yes no problems opening the shortcut in file explorer but cannot open the standard program shortcut. Its odd because this worked no problem for me 2 days ago but cannot seem to get it working correctly now.
Do you know how to modify the registry file so that it points to the OperaWM file that does work?

No didn´t use the registry. I just used Resco Explorer and did "send to - starmenu as shortcut" It works for me as I just start Opera when I need it - doesn´t have Opera as default browser. So when I need it I just use the new shortcut and have deleted the default one

yes, it works bro.. using the same method as above.. no more that error message & opera launched perfectly.. thanks
deleted it totally, tired of messing around with it and dont want to install another app just to manage it. sounds suboptimal to me unless you have Resco Explorer already..
im moving this thread to the regular hermes thread... this is a software thing, not a wm6 thing..

You opened www.operamini.com from your phone right?
--M
Yes I did..how I've gotten opera mini in the past. I think the website is being worked on at the present. Anyway, after doing several searches, I now have the latest version of opera mini installed (midlet). I got the jar file at www.getjar.com
Thanks!
I was an Opera mini user on my Moto SLVR, works great. But on my 8125, I use Opera for PocketPC (v. 8.60) and it is far superior to Opera mini... has tabs, better navigation, multiple layout options, etc. Much more similar to a desktop browser.
It's a 30 day trial. I paid the 24 bux for it. Well worth it.
I have both. I got Opera 8.60 last year & believe it cost me $26. There's a newer beta version out that now supports flash player 7; it has drag screen scrolling, & you can even import your PIE favorites as bookmarks! Here is the cab file for the beta version.
Problem with cab file upload. If you want the file, I can email the link to you.

Heres a version I downloaded on 2/19 for anyone else who may need it. Not sure if its the most recent, but it'll get the job done.

Most recent is 3.1 advanced. Available at www.getjar.com this is a .jar or .jad file to be installed as a midlet in midlet manager.

Please DO follow my articles - in the Windows Mobile Web Browsing Bible (also cross-posted in the General forum here), I've explained where Opera Mini can be downloaded from (off the Opera pages, so, you'll get the latest version) and how it should be deployed under Intent / IBM J9.

Midlet manager???

Apologies if this is something really simple and I've just been missing it totally (I have searched to no avail for an answer to it's location on here as well)
I've loaded a java app which I've tested and it works on my HD - but I can't find the midlet manager to start it once I've closed it (I can only start it by reinstalling it every time at the moment!)
I recell seeing a midlet manager, but cant find it on my HD or my Diamond (poss I saw it on my Cruise before)
Anyway, if someone knows how I can locate it I'd be most grateful
thanks
Ash
In Start->Programs folder there's a big "e" icon that reads "java" below it. That's the midlet manager.
I've installed a midlet and after running "java", I can see the midlet listed there.
btw, I'm talking about the HD.
got it - thanks!
(nicely hidden of them....)

Opera Mini 5 (beta)

I just installed this, and i must say its much nicer than the default that comes with the TP2. But theirs a few things.
1. I cannot find the program to launch it again after i close it. When i look under the drop down of programs running, all thats listed is "Java FX", which when clicked, does take me back to the browser. Is their not its own icon? Or is their a way to link the new one to the "internet" tab in Touch flo?
2. Is their any way to keep it from poping up its own software keyboard?
[edit] Ok.. someone posted this solution::: Disable Inline Editing in Settings\Advanced...
3. When i type in the address bar, it sometimes, double types letters. Very annoying.
never mind
beta 5 unfortunately has problems with switches from landscape to portrait and vice versa.
when i pull out the keyboard in oder to type something of course the screen rotates. In about 50% of all cases the browser UI does not follow the rotation, but the screen just turns white.
opera 4 has no problems with screen rotations.
Java
Posted this question in another thread too but seems more appropriate here:
I came from the Mogul to the TP2 so I'm not so sure how to install and run Opera Mini 5. I'd like to try it, but do you still need a Java applet launcher to run it? Or can you just run it on the TP2 if you put the .jad and/or .jar files somewhere? Thanks.

Follow the instructions on the opera website:
"To try Opera Mini 5 beta, simply visit the address m.opera.com/next, using your phone’s default Web browser."
in case the OEM of your phone pre-installed a suboptimal java runtime environment (or even none) try this:

LOL, that link redirects us to this topic...
That said, I also have some minor problems with the new opera mini 5 beta. It look way more slick then the standard version of Opera, but there are a few things:
1. Just like Lyian stated, I as well hate the opera interface keyboard popping up and would really like to turn off this feature.
2. When I slide out my keyboard, the java applet notices this action and tells me to restart opera mini 5 :S (using JBlend, standard application deliverd on my tp2)
3. I would really like to have the possibility to make a shortcut to opera mini beta 5 in the start menu.
4. Everytime I restart the mini-browser, it asks me if it may connect to the network. I would really like to have the mini-browser never ask me this again.
Now I do remember that there were some solutions to my little problems mentioned above. With the old opera mini there were some tweaks that offered an solution to point 3 and 4, but I can't find them anywere. Does anybody know if they work as well for mini 5, and where I can find them? Does anybody have an solution to the other problems?
Thanks in advance,

use jbed instead of JBlend. JBlend can not handle screen rotation at all (no matter whether the java application can or not).

Disable Inline Editing in Settings\Advanced...
I just started playing with Mini 5, and it's freaking awesome with esmertec jbed. It's got the speed of Opera Mini, but it has some degree of flicking and it can copy/paste text! Mini 4.2 allowed you to copy and paste text when you switched to text entry mode, but you had to change the keyboard to the old full keyboard to utilize CTRL C and CTRL V. I can now highlight text on pages. Plus tabbed browsing! Remarkable.
I looked for a signed version of 5, but I couldn't find it (I was able to install the signed version for 4.2). Is there a trick I'm not aware of?
Mini 5 works for some of the forums I visit. I was unable to post in the Yuku forums with 4.2, and it would format oddly unless I was in mobile view. Screen transitions are a lot snappier.
I've never had any luck with screen orientation transitions with Opera Mini, so it's not a big deal for me. I'm used to using it exclusively in portrait mode anyway.
I think I've found myself a new browser. Anyone have any tips or tricks to share?
ETA: I'd love to get the flicking speed higher.
Does anyone know how to get the clock/time to show on the top border/frame? It's on Opera Mini 4.2 and it'd be cool to have it on this browser also. Thanks in advance !
