I just traded from my KJAM to an unlocked Cingular 8125 (i like the 8125 much better, KB overall quality)..
Any way I would like to completely debrand it and I think the only Cingular piece left is the start-up boot screen...is there a way to replace/remove that?
Read through this entire thread. It has all the info.

hi!
unfortunately i've forgotten how to put my universal into bootloader mode :-(
I'd really appreciate if someone could tell me how to do so!
(i can't search around easily as i 'm on gprs here and its awfully slow :-()
Thanks in advance!

Reset, whilst holding down the two "-" keys (soft keys), and then press "0" (zero).
Tip...being slightly more specific with your title would probably have meant getting a response faster!

The above post is just for a simple hard reset. It has nothing at all to do with the bootloader. That is 'light+power+reset'
Oops...my mistake. That's what I meant to put...
Sorry.
Ant
thanks everybody!
I badly needed it to flash my rom...
Had to get rid of the horrid rom from o2!
back to my dear old qtek rom once again
cheers!

horrid rom
I have the qtek and the o2, and I have the 'horrid' rom in both units. Everything works perfectly, so I am curious as to what problems you are having. I have 1.13.82wwe, 1.13.188wwe, and 1.06.00. I have installed lots of software as well, and everything works.
its the extended rom (from o2) which went loose and took a leak all thru my universal ;-)
I accidentally went into basic install, shifted into corporate mode later on....and it happened to leave a lot of crap in the windows folder...something went wrong for sure...and especially since theres hardly any differences in either of the roms...and qtek has lesser "goop" in the ext_rom, I just preferred to head back to good 'ol qtek rom ;-)
cheers!

Quicker than 6 minutes? That's pretty quick...
I'd be so happy if all my questions were answered within 6 minutes!
My camera's flash stop working, sometimes can't hear incoming call person's voice but hear my voice echo, no drops/scratches.
What steps am I to do?
Here is what I have done so far:
- Cleared my storage (factory reset)
- It was CID unlocked by lokiwiz unlocker, but I locked it back with lock_backup.bin
- Had Cingular_Custom_AKU2.3_Combo_Installer_V1.exe put in; but downloaded and installed HTC's original ROM from their site: http://www.htcamerica.net/support/8125/software-downloads.html
ROM 2.25.11.1 WWE: http://www.htcamerica.net/support/docs/RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship.exe
(their ROM also fixes the blue speckles from the camera but not the brightness)
I'll be receiving my replacement phone today since Cingular's warranty facility is only a state away...
Hope this is all I have to do?
Thanks in advance!
you should be good, i have returned several 8125's with the cid still unlocked, so you are more than covered

8125 return/upgrade
I still can't hear crap w/ my 8125. I have Cingular and have had several replacements units. They have offered me BlackBerry, but want to stay with PPC! Anyone have success or inside info for getting it swapped out for an 8525?
Did anyone have a problem returning a CID unlocked wizard for repairs? I've CID unlocked, and installed custom roms.. My plan was to just grab the original cingular ROM from the website and send it back like that..

How can I see the cabs you have on your repository? clicked on your cab repository link, and got no cabs. Is it because your site is still under construction? When will the cabs be available?
Thx!

Read my thread entitled"8525" either on page 6 or 7 on this forum..
I upgraded from my beloved Wizard/MDA to the sexy Herald/Wing....my concerns:
- I got alot of cool registry hacks and what not from here for the Wizard. Do any of those work with WM6 or is it such a different OS?
- In general, are we looking at many programs for WM5 not working yet with WM6?
I've read conflicting info - does the Herald have A2DP or not? If not, does the .cab file that enabled it on my Wizard work with the Herald? (similar to my 1st concern, but more specific...lol)
In general - are those of you who upgraded from the Wizard happy with the changes? What do you miss from your Wizard that is not on the Herald?
Thanks!
*counting down the hours til my Wing's Thurs delivery*
it does have a2dp.
I upgraded from a Wizard, and i'm sooooo happy with my herald
I am not happy
Comparing Wing to Wizard:
Same processor
Same amount of memory
Same screen
5% heavier
10% less battery
NO IR!!!
Oh yeah, and T-Mobile really screwed up the memory:
The Page Pool is 3 times normal so it eats up a lot.
It runs a ton of T-Mobile specific crap so it eats up even more.
It then has memory leak problems so it has to be soft-reset daily to clean it up. (On one occasion, it said it had run out of memory and I had to kill an app. It listed the app I was running and 5 instances of "Phone")
The only plus in my book is that it is slightly smaller.
what you can do to kill the tmobile apps is to reset the Wing to initial factory settings then after you've done the screen calibration the customization msg will come up. at that very instant soft reset the WIng and no Tmobile crap will be installed.
New To The Herald
I just got my T-Mobile Wing today and its charging as we speak. I have been looking around in here for the unlock procedures and the custom cooked Roms that I have grown acoustomed to with my Wizard. I miss Faria! lol
Really though if someone can point out the correct thread to follow as I have read horror stories of bricked Heralds.
You just gotta check em all out lol. Theres been plenty of bricked devices, etc. but everyday we learn something new in the Herald forums. I paid to get my device CID Unlocked but its not necessary as the method of flashing is different then a modified RUU like the wizard used. Just when you get a custom rom downloaded, follow the instructions EXACTLY on what to do and you should have no problems. You should download the Tmobile RUU just incase of any problems though as I bricked my device once last week cause of simple error but the Tmobile RUU brought it back to life!
Thanks Blkout,I feel like a newbee again! lol Its like christmas all over
Hello all,
I am really sorry for being a noob, and i am also sorry if this is answered elsewhere but i have looked and havent got a clue what im doing. I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario and am having all sorts of problems with it. I was told that if I upgrade my rom it should sort it out plus i also like the though of having WM6.
I have looked round the forums and it looks like i have a G4 device(IPL 2.21.0001). My current rom version is 2.21.2.6 wwe, radio version 02.19.11.
It has never been altered by myself and i have had it since new so it is not unlockedin any way.
Also i am running Vista on my PC.
Hope thats all the info you need.. Hope to hear back from some kind person shortly.
many thanks...Tim
what is you SPL, thats the important info. go to bootloader by completely turning off you phone (taking out battery, and putting it back in after about 10 seconds), and holding the camera button while you turn it on. It will say your SPL.
you have to first CID unlock you phone, BEFORE you install any custom ROM. im not sure if things have changed now, but as far as I know, the only way to CID unlock a G4 device is to pay for it, I don't think anybody has found another way yet. I think its about 40 US dollars. I think its at http://www.imei-check.co.uk after that, you can install special G4 ROMS. It has to be G4 safe, if you use a G3 ROM, you will ruin your phone.
IM NOT SURE ABOUT ANY OF THIS, it's just what I think.
Now, it's being shipped to me.
When I turn the phone on, should I soft reset it when it attempts to install the at&t customization crap? Or does it not matter?
I remember when I had my 8125, it did that the first time I got the phone, and I let it go. Which made me end up with some annoying pointless programs. (Although I ended up putting a new ROM wm6.0 and eventually wm6.1)
Also, which roms do yall like the best?
I'm looking for something that's clean, and quick. Without a bunch of useless applications.
Thanks
Since you're familiar with installing ROMS on the 8125,8525 should be a piece of cake.... Definitely read up on the Hermes wiki and load up a WM6 ROM.... check my signature for my current flavor of the month.
Enjoy your 8525

Even though I had a g4 8125, installing roms became quite easy.
I've been reading up on installing the roms. So do I have to HardSPL my 8525?
P.s. I like that WM6 Shamanix Ultimate 2.1. =]
Welcome! hardspl is a must! here's the flashing bible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462

I just got one as well for $30 from att (refurb). Its working great! It is a bit on the larger side of phones and the damn stylus is a pain in the ass to push in and take out sometimes.
