I Have to restart phone to regain GPRS connetion every now and then. I have radio version 1.01.00 and rom version 1.03.00 WWE. My provider is Vodafone in sweden.
If I go to flight mode and back to normal then I can connect to GPRS again. Should I uppgrade my I-Mate to get it to work? Any Ideas what to do?
I've heard of people with similar problems, you need to upgrade your Rom, if you wanna stay relatively safe, upgrade to:
Rom Version: 1.72.00WWE
U can get this from club imate
I'm afraid I can´t find the rom on the Imate Club site. But you belive my problem will be solved by uppgrading the rom right? I´ll have to search for it then. ;c) Thanks.
I sure don't see any version 1.72 on Club iMate at JAM Device Support. The latest available upgrade I see is:
Radio 1.01.00
ROM 1.03.143 WWE
Where do you see version 1.72?
Frank
I believe he's referring to the wrong device. 1.72 was for the I-Mate Pocket PC - not the Jam.
Ok. I have posted a case to Imate and they where about to send a file to correct the problem but I got an emty mail.
Imate support don't know what this is. I'm back on the hunt. Anybody else having the same problem with theirs? Please let me know in this thred
Sincere Apologies, I was in fact dreferring to the I-mate....didnt realise this thread was under magician
Got an ansver from Imate. They sent me an PDF file where they showed me how to set up the GPRS connection. The problem is, been there and done that. I’m totally lost here. Is it only me who has this problem with “magican” and Vodafone? (In Sweden). Frustrating! ;c(
Note: With my P800 and the same location and same SIM = no probem at all.
I have the exact same problem with Vodafone gprs in Sweden
Hi Robert
I have the exact same problem with GPRS. I am also a customer of Vodafone in Sweden. I have this problem regardless of the device I am using. I have been running Qtek 2020, 8010, 9090 and S100 (magician) devices with the same problem for quite a while now.
I have started to think that this is not a device problem. It is probably a problem with Vodafone GPRS. I have contacted their tech support a couple of times about this. So far we have tried disabling/reenabling GPRS on my account and switching to new Sim-cards. None of this has worked so far.
I am using their twin cards service switching between different phones, I am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.
best regards
Christofer
Thanks a lot for giving me this feedback. I'll talk to Vodafone right away.
Solution: I know that Telia supports the magican device because they have them for sale. My solution was to call Telia and tell them that I wanted to use them instead. Its a covards solution but Imate blames Vodafone and Vodafone blames Imate.
I have an old Qtek1010 on Telia, and it is behaving just like your Magician on Vodaphone. Sometimes I have to actually remove the SIM and put it back in again to be able to reconnect.
Another question about the Magician and GPRS. I have read on a couple of forums that the Magician will not keep the GPRS connection alive when in "sleep mode". Is this true? If so I may have to quickly cancel my order...

My gprs connection seems to stay connected ok even when the machine is switched "off". I have an imate jam on o2 in the UK.
I don't know if it stays on forever because i tend to log off gprs so i can go on line through bluetooth.
Simon
This is really bad news. I thought that since Telia do have thoose phones for sale they should have tested them in the net. In that case I should start thinking of going back to my old P800 instead of changing provider.
I Wonder if there are someone in here who it works for in sweden. Please let me know.
I have several collegues who are not experiencing these problems with Qtek devices on Vodafone network. So it does not seem to be a general problem.

I just talked to Telia today as my GPRS broke down totally and there was just nothing that would make it connect. The person I talked to was very helpful and professional and we managed to isolate the problem to my SIM card. Being a brand new SIM I received just two weeks ago I though that just anything but the SIM would be more probable. It was very evident though as my SIM would not work with GPRS in neither mine nor a colleauges phone but the colleauges SIM would work just fine in both.
My new SIM will arrive on monday, and then hopefully it will not be too long before my S100 arrives as well
Ok, thats somewhat god news. Then there is hope to accually use this expensive piece of toy as it is suppose to.
Some input…
I have a Qtek S100 and run it with Telia. Works just fine, never have to reset or remove the SIM. However, I have problem with the GPRS to disconnect when synchronized with my PC and when using the phone. Have heard that an app called GPRS Keep Alive would solve that problem, haven’t tried it yet.

It will not. For two reasons:
1. There can only be one network connection at a time, and the activesync connection counts as a network connection (you can use network passthrough to use the activesync connection for network access from the PPC).
2. You can not have a GSM voice connection and an active GPRS connection simultaneously because they share the same radio hardware. Simultaneous GPRS and Voice would need two radios in the phone, and although it has been part of the GSM specification for quite some time there are no such device available on the consumer market yet.
hi everyone!
i've seen the same post ealier (~4 weeks ago) but don't found decision in there. So asking for again if somebody already found it.
Problem:
I use JAM as a GPRS modem via bluetooth. After voice call receiving JAM close both bluetooth and GPRS connection. So to contnue my work i have to reconnect manually from laptop
Before JAM i've used different phones by SonyEricsson (from T39) for over 4 years and hadnt never meet with this problem.
I've tried to find somethin that may help to decide this prob in GPRS and bluetooth settings of JAM but nothing
and one more questions:
is any software instead of standart WModem, witch always on and ready to connection without any manual operations like starting Wmodem. Soft making my JAM featured as any simple _ordinary_ phone like SE T610 for example?
thanx in advance for your answers (and sorry for bad english
Hi guys,
This forum has already been invaluable to me with all the useful info it has! I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out with a problem I'm having:
I've installed the new T-Mobile ROM on my Vario in which I'm using a Vodafone SIM card. Now, every time I switch the Vario on, I get a "Message from Network" telling me which area code I'm in. Does anyone know how I can disable this notification?
I thought I had managed to stop this - I put the SIM card back in my K750i and unsubscribed from all cell info channels. The message didn't come up the next time I switched on the Vario but now it's come back again. I've deselected Broadcast Channels in the phone control panel.
Any help would be much appreciated!
"Message from Network" with area code
I also have a UK T Mobile Vario with a Vodaphone SIM. And I also get "Message from Network" after a soft reset and whenever the phone loses signal and reconnects to the network, which is probably two or three times a day on average. The message is just "020", the London area code (or the area code of wherever I happen to be).
I found a registry hack that says it fixes it, see http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=481854&SiteID=1. The hack is:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\RIL]
"EnableCBM"=dword:0
"EnableCBMChannels"=""
"EnableCBMDCS"=""
but it doesn't seem to work.
antlane, did you ever manage to cure this problem ? Any help you or anyone else can give me with this would be greatly appreciated.
My ROM details are:
ROM version 1.6.2.4 WWE
ROM date 11/15/05
Radio version 01.12.10
Protocol version 4.0.13.23
ExtROM version 1.6.2.105
Thanks.
Solution found ! Do a ROM Uograde.
I upgraded my Vario to the latest official UK T Mobile ROM (ROM version 2.21.2.6 http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html) and this has cured the "Message from Network" problem. It also speeds up the phone greatly !

Hi guys,
As the new owner of O2 Exec, that I purchase in second hand shop, I come up with some questions and issues. Of course, I tried to find my answer on the forum but couldn't find it so I was thinking maybe some experienced users might have the answer.
Also some information about the configuration of my O2 Exec:
O2 Exec
Rom Version: 1.30.107 WWE
Rom Date: 04/11/06
Radio Version: 1.09.00
Protocol Version: 42.42.P8
ExtROM Version: 1.30.162 WWE
I have unlock the exec and I am using it with a T-Mobile sim card in the UK. I am also register with Web'n'walk (Unlimited GPRS data plan).
I am synchronizing the Exec with Exchange server and I am using the email push.
See below:
- When I plugged the exec by Usb for active sync, I got an error on my laptop saying that I can't synchronize. If I unplug the cable and plug it again, it tend to works (Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to kill active sync on my laptop and start it again). Any ideas?
- Is there a way to completely block the data transmission when I am abroad. In fact, before I was using a Blackberry and there was an interesting option which allow to block all data connection when you are Roaming. Good to avoid bad surprise with the expensive data roaming fee.
- When I am using TCMP to listen to music. It starts to play fine, and then suddenly i got an error saying that the file can't be found on the SD card. I didn't remove the card and I can see that the card is still there in the file explorer.
- Does the email Push can work with Wifi or only with GPRS? If yes, how can I configure this?
- How can I check on the today screen that my bluetooth is paired correctly. I use to have a Blueangel with WM2003 and I remember that there was an icon in the top bar with a headset to indicate that the bluetooth headset was paired. The only workaround so far is to press my bt headset and see if the voice dialing window come up. I think there might be a better way.
- Is there a point for me to upgrade my Radio version? I tried to do it but get an error that the country code wasn't correct or something like this. If it brings improvement can you please give me some information on how to do upgrade it on a O2 exec since it is an Orange upgrade?
- I am using Web'n'walk in the uk with only GPRS. I configure the gprs parameter with the information from the internet. The information given by the customer services where not working. Is there any way to use the UMTS (i.e. 3G) instead of GPRS. The customer services told me that I have to upgrade my plan to do so. Anybody have another solution?
To conclude, this handset is a really impressive machine. As I say before, I used to have a Blueangel and I can see that a lots of things have improved since then.
Sorry for my big list of questions and thank you very much for your help.
Julien.
Web'nWalk with UMTS
I have a Web'nWalk tariff on t-Mobile.
If your sim is a recent one (mine is a year old), it can handle both GPRS and UMTS depending on availability. Older sims cannot - you have to request a new one. This was confirmed by T-Mobile support as well as my experience with the sim. It drops to GPRS where there's no 3G coverage, and I get good speed with 3G (UMTS) in most parts of London
You need to set Network Type to Auto (Phone -> Menu -> Options -> Band) if the current default is GSM.
Hope this helps.
Hi,
I'm a new user of SVP m3100. Quite happy with .
I just installed WM6 BM ,And works fine.
But I can not connect to O2 GPRS I tried to get the settings, use some .CAB that I found on this forum, change the details ... So many times. And still can not use it. Is that because I still have the Orange software on it? If so, how can I delete it? (so I'm not seeing the Orange logo everytime I switch on my device..)
Another question is about BT. I don't know if anything wrong on mine, or is all like this but, there is no way to , for example send a picture through BT ? I can not uset either to sync my device, so I'm always using USB.
Is that for any reason? Is the Hermes BT like this..? so what use has it, just connect with handsfree and GPS ?
Thanks for help, and sorry if that has been discused on the forum, but I couldn't find the information to sold it out.
