Hello,
On my I-Mate JAM I only seem to have one Bluetooth port available? Is this correct (see attached shots)?
Incidentally, I can't seem to get ActiveSync to work over BT anymore - I'm wondering whether it's related to this or not? ActiveSync with BT worked at first but ActiveSync will only work over USB now. :?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
you should define the com port on you Pc on local services under advaced configuraions on your bluetooth. Then use the sma port on your I-Mate

SMA port?
I've just tried the following:-
* Setup an incoming port on my PC
* In ActiveSync connection settings, selected that port as the serial cable port.
* Created a partnership using my I-Mate to find the PC.
I just keep getting the message below, even though it's setup on my PC. :?
Even if I try deleting the partnership and recreating it after this message I have no luck. :x
What could be wrong? Cheers!
Try this:
I forgot where I found it, but I make a copy on my pc.
To the author, forgive me to post here without your permission, but my intention is to help another.

1)On your PC go to the Control Panel and select "Bluetooth". In the "Options" tab, make sure all the ticks are on. You'll now see a little bluetooth icon on your system tray. Makes it easier to access in the future. Your PC should also be ready to be found as long as you ticked the fist box in the step above.
2)On your Jam, Go to Start, Settings, System (Tab), Bluetooth Settings. On the screen that comes up you ONLY want to hit start. Leave the incoming and outgoing checkboxes OFF!!!
3)You will now be taken to the partnership screen, where you just follow the instructions to add your PC. Follow through until you hit finish. Close everything down until you're back at the today screen.
4)Back to your PC, double click on the Bluetooth icon in your system tray. Go to "Com Ports" (Tab) and click "Add". Choose incoming. A You'll see an incoming port added to the list (probably be the only item there). It should look like "COM X Incoming"
Remember what number is after COM. Close all windows, making sure you hit OK or Apply where you have to.
5)Open Active Sync on your PC. Hit File, Connection Settings. Enable the first tick, and select the COM port you had to remember in the previous step. Hit OK
6)Open Active Sync on your Jam. Choose Tools, Connect Via Bluetooth.

I hope above help!

Thanks, Artosoft. That's got me so far. The device gets past the "User Authenticated" stage with ActiveSync opening on the PC, but the sync doesn't actually occur, it disconnects at that stage.
Any ideas? Thanks again.

Good morning
Can someone please tell me how to synchronise XDA Exec via bluetooth using Activesync 4.1. I do not have Win XP SP2 installed and do not want to install it (If I can help it!!!!!!). I have spent sometime trying to work it out but have not had any luck.
A detailed post will be very much appreciated.[/b]
I take it no one knows or no one syncs their Exec via bluetooth!!!!!! Anyway, if I have worked it out, if someone would like to know please do not hesitate to ask.
Synchronising via bluetooth is a breeze, its beautiful. Cuz when u sync via cable your machine starts charging your device too and if I am not mistaken, keep on charging and taking it off witout full charge your battery gets damaged. Please correct me if I am wrong.
But when u sync via bluetooth u dont have to worry about the battery getting damaged and dont have to worry about those messy cable(s).
Setup Instructions
Step 1:
- Go to BT Settings on PC and enable "New Incoming Connection"
- On my PC it opens up "COM3"
Step 2:
- Open up Activesync in PC
- Go "File" -> "Connection Settings"
- Enable "Allow connection settings to one of the following:"
- Select same COM port as enabled in Step 1
Step 3:
- ON PPC, go "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Connections" -> "Bluetooth" -> "Devices"
- Select "New Partnership"
- Your PPC will start scanning for new devices...
Step 4
- On your PC a window will pop up asking you to input a PIN
- I find I have to click the BT icon in my PC taskbar to make the window appear, but that's just me
- Choose any 4-digit combination
Step 5
- On your PPC, you will then get a request to enter the PIN you used for the PC
- Once entered, the "Partnership Settings" window opens on your PPC
- It displays "Activesync" selected
- Choose "Save" (bottom right) and you're done!
To initiate a BT Activesync:
- On PPC, go to "Activesync" -> "Menu" -> "Connect via Bluetooth"
BT works at about 1Mb/sec, as opposed to USB at 11Mb/sec, so you lose on speed, but I haven't really noticed much difference, myself.
Also, I don't have BT Activesync set up at the mo, and haven't set it up in a while, so may have missed a thing or two - but with this guide and a little common sense (and Google) you should be right.
Many thanks for all your help. I managed it few days back. It was near enough the same procedure.
Anyway thanx for all your help.
Currently I am working on VPN and Terminal Service Client. I can do everything inside my local area network, but when I am using WiFi hotspot, Dial Up and GPRS I cannot connect to my work network. There is allot about it in this forum but very little seems to work.
Callyou.
nice one
Good, clear instructions. For some reason I couldn't get the activesync service available on the BT connection, but followed the above and it appeared.
Many thanks. This has solved my USB connection issue after a reflash...

I'd love to be able to sync via bluetooth, but activesync doesn't appear as an option. Only Hands free and dial up networking.
Have i missed something? Why is this such a complicated thing to achieve? It's ridiculous!!!
Thanks, Ash
I have different steps done but it's quite stable and high repeatability.
1: PC site, enable bluetooth and check "discoverable".
2: PPC site, open ActiveSync and click "Connect via bluetooth", if it's the first time to establish the connection, PPC will ask "there is no available Activesync port defined, would you like to define..." something like that.
3: Choose "Yes" of course, the the common bluetooth setting "partner" tab will appear, click "new devices".
4: Once found the PC, PC site will show the message to complete the pairing process.
5: Once paired, PC site will have another message showing that PPC is goting to connect through the Activesync port, then click on the pop-up message at the right-bottom corner, then choose "always allow the connection" in the newer pop-up menu.
6: Wait for PPC site to finish(taking quite long time like freeze), then there are few ports available, then check the "ActiveSyne" and complete the setup. If there is only "Serial" available instead of "ActiveSync", click "Refresh" button and repeat the step 5~6.
BTW. My PC is WinXP Professional SP2, unbranded BT sticker with Widcomm 1.4.2 Driver. PPC is Orange UK 1.30.90 WWE Version.
is this procedure the same with sharing the pc's internet connection via bluetooth to the xda exec?

Okay - I was having no end of problems connecting to Activesync and syncing to Exchange (local desktop would work ok), sometimes activesync on the desktop pc would stay at 'connecting' other times it would try to connect, but fail with error code 80072efd or 0x85002003. I also kept getting the error message on the PDA - unable to connect with your network settings (or something like it...).
After a couple of days trying to get it working (and occasionally succeeding after hard resets etc) I started investigating...
So, I checked a few things... Activesync 4.X uses a Remote-NDIS host on the PDA to make an IP based lan-type connection to your pc. Check your settings in
Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Network Adapters
for the 'Remote-NDIS Host'.
Mine had been set on 'Use Specific IP Address'. Change this to 'Use Server-Assigned IP Address'
Now check that it says ' My network card connects to' and that work is selected.
Now check Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Connections'
and check that the proxy server states - This network connects to the Internet' and that there is no proxy server specified.
I don't know if this will sort any issues out for anyone else - but it worked a treat with mine, so having spend days trying to get it working I thought I would share my horribly annonying experiences!!!
Hope it helps,
Liamo
on secoind thoughts - this has caused me more problems... grr I hate activesync - ignore my babbeling....
If I sort it properly I will post again..
i'm off to eat some apple-humble pie.

Okay,
so I uninstalled version 4.1 of activestink and installed the latest version 4.2. I created the pairing and hey presto - it's synching again.
Yup - it's great fun.
ohh, I also hard-reset in between 'cause I was annoyed!!!
;-)
liam
this worked for me.
i too faced the 'spinning wheel' problem with active sync.
i figured out that it was the configuration of the desktop or laptop and not the wizard as such.
1. after connecting the USB, i cud see messages like RNDIS device ready and all.
2. after this click on the lan icon in the taskbar of desktop. it displays all the lan connections. select the one that is for windows based mobile device.
3. in the properties for this lan connection, in general tab, check the box for Internet protocol.
4. In the advanced tab, click on settings for windows firewall.
5. check if activesync is added to the exceptions list. if not, check the box for activesync. click ok.
this should solve the problem. i sometimes have to do each time i connect thru usb.
hope this works.
hey guy i also had the same problem and although the first post was somewhat helpful, i still had to take an extra step in order for activesync to connect properly.
1. after changing to " Use Server-Assigned IP Address" in the connections tab i then had to:
2.go to the "usb to pc" interface and uncheck "enable advanced network funciotnality"
thanks for this post - i couldnt get my activesync to woork for the past 5 days
Activestink 4.2 won't even start on my computer
I don't really need it anyway

you can also use a registery hack:
use your favourite regeditor;
change
HKLM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\“DefaultClientDriver“=“RNDIS“
into:
HKLM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\“DefaultClientDriver“=“Serial_Class“
Erase:
HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“
do a Soft-Reset.
check after the reset if a:
HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“ key has been made for serial communication otherwise it won't work.

How can I run this cab if I can't use Activesync? (My PPC (MDA Pro) is in a vanilla state)
in my case was easier because i was able to copy on the ppc but i couldn't copy from it. trry to load it somewhere where you can take it from with your phone.
I've tried d/ling it from here but It doesn't save as a cab file.

This is the trick I found out:
Connect your phone, wait till activesync starts.
Run taskmanager on your pc and kill:
WCESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
Go to your explorer (again PC) and doubleclick:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exe
Activesync will run now without errors (but doesn't sync!).
click on explore, copy the cab to the phone.
Disconnect the usb-cable, start the cab on the phone.
Reboot the pc, reconnect the usb-cable and activesync will sync again

I've make the registry changes but after soft resetting, no HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“ key has been created. Can you please post the contents of that reg key so I can put in manually otherwise is there something else I need to do to get the key created?
I have also had a similar problem with my computer and my Qtek 9100 not "finding each other" properly for a sync over USB ince the day I bought it over a year ago. Haven't been too bothered with it, as I've synced via BT instead (which works perfectly).
Still, technology that doensn't work properly seriously anoys me. Having tried all other available and suggested solutions I stumbled across the-equinoxe's recepie of reg-changes. After following the instructions I also ended upp with no HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“ for serial communication.
Therefore, I would like to repeat sunseakers call for help... Could anyone tell me what the contents of that entry is supposed to be?
Thanks for any help!

Thanks Krinkie.
ActiveSync must be one of the most frustrating applications out there. I have tried all recommended fixes and still cannot get ActiveSync to recognize my MDA. The last time I did a sync was 9/06. Too much BS using this application. I have searched all over the web and cannot find any application that will allow me to update my PIM file without ActiveSync. So, I guess I will finally give up on this. Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me. Thank You!!
I've been trying for days to connect to my laptop and the file above 'rndis to serial' finally did the trick... I'd read elsewhere about turning off your firewall etc, in the end I'd uninstalled all my firewall, anti spyware and antivirus programs...
Thank god for everyone here at XDA-developers... there wasn't anything useful on the Microsoft site.
Hi, I've enabled an ActiveSync connection with my Trinity and my computer via bluetooth..
What I really want though is to have it connect automatically once I'm within range and everything is on, how would I do this?
Thanks for any help!
Hi, How did you manage to sync via Bluetooth.
Thanks
Haven't done this yet, I need to buy a dongle... but according to the info I've read you need to setup a pan service that is the equivilent of a wifi ad hoc connection...

Question for El_Mariachi
So, you have your PPC rigged up to sync through bluetooth each time you put it in the cradle? That's my goal, but I'm having some trouble you might be able to help with.
Here's my situation:
- PC and PPC are paired
- Sync is possible through bluetooth manually
- In the Activesync program on the PPC I go to Menu>Connections>
The "Synchronize all PCs using this connection:" box is ticked
However, the drop down list of options only contains "`USB" and nothing else
If it isn't too much trouble, could you check your registry here:
HKCU>ControlPanel>Comm
And please list all the values under that Key?
I really appreciate it.
Apparently you have to sync manually there is no other way. I'm not sure how to check the registry but let me know and I'll be happy to post the values
In terms of syncing...
Pair your PPC with your PC
Enable an incoming COM Port from your PC via bluetooth
In AS on your PC, allow connections through that COM Port
On your PPC, in AS, select connect via Bluetooth, select your PC, ActiveSync should appear and check the box.
Then connect via bluetooth again and it should work!
Exporting regsitry keys
If you have a registry editor installed, it should be easy. If you don't have a registry editor installed, and you don't really want to install one I will understand. On the other hand, if you don't mind then a popular freeware is fdcsoft's task manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32913&d=1168267333
Once installed, open the program and find the regedit tab. Open HKEYCurrentUser>Comm>Rasbook (see Rasbook location attachment for a pic) and look and see if there isn't a key called Bluetooth, or perhaps `Bluetooth. If there is, then tap and hold that key and select Export. (See Bluetooth Export attachment for another pic) If you zip and attach that file then I can download it and see if it works on my PPC.
Again, if this is too much hassle then it's cool, but it might really help me out. Thanks.

Hi everyone! When I connected my jade to my pc via usb, i got the usual screen asking me how i want to connect to the pc. Through activesync, internet sharing or disk drive. I chose internet sharing the last time to try this function out. However, the next time i connected via usb, the selection screen did not come out and it automatically went to internet sharing. Each time i connect via usb, this is what happens! Furthermore, i am now unable to sync! I tried going to activesync and pressing sync but to no avail! Could somebody help me please?!? Thank you in advance!!!
Try this...
1) Without connecting to PC.. on PC open ActiveSync. Select File - Delete Mobile Device - Confirm deletion.
2) On Jade, open active sync - options - delete all data
3) Now connect usb and configure connection again.
Hope that works.
Or on your Jade:
Click Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC...
Make sure that the checkbox at the bottom of the screen is checked.. That way it will always ask you what mode you want when connecting the device to USB...

Tried to do all mentioned above but no success.
Every time after opening ActiveSync settings, contacts are grey and impossible to mark them for Sync.
Could anybody advice pls?
Type approx 400 contacts again is nightmare.
Thanx

Sometimes it's defaulted to "sync with PC". In Options, try uncheck that on PC contact folders, then check on server contact folders.
I have tried it, but no success.
Later on found (thanx to Google ) and installed Chapura Pocket Mirror Professional 1.0 trial and it went through and whole Outlook has been synchronized.
Now I works even w/o Chapura Pocket Mirror.
Hi TP2-ers!
Since using my TP2, ActiveSync continuously syncs it with my PC. When I used AS with my old PDA (QTEK 2020i) I could select manual sync, but this doesn't seem to be possible when connecting a WM6 device.
I tried all the tricks (changing registry entries Continuously Update and Update on docking to 0), the exchange server trick to enable the AS schedule button and setting it to manually, all to no avail...
I know of tools like ActiveSync Toggle, but I do not want to disable AS, I just want to sync manually when I think it's time to sync!
Has anybody out there been able to disable the autosync in AS in combination with the TP2?
Thank you very much for your reply in advance!
Kind regards,
Piet
Open ActiveSync on your phone, then click on MENU on the bottom right, then select SCHEDULE and set both peak and off peak to MANUAL. After that it won't sync unless you go in and sync it yourself.
Connect to PC
What about when the "Connect to PC" screen appears when you plug it in via USB? For a week or so if I didn't touch the phone it would disappear and Internet Sharing would open and automatically connect! it was awesome, but now the ActiveSync bubble is selected and it opens ActiveSync on my PC. Are there any registry values to reset this?
So open ActiveSync on the phone again, select MENU at the bottom right, select CONNECTIONS, and uncheck "Synchronize all PCs using this connection"

Nope, all that does is go directly into the "Disk Drive" option....It used to open Internet Sharing and connect automatically. I even removed my SD card and it just charges the phone.
Have you tried to end the partnership between your phone and your computer from within the ActiveSync software on your computer? That should do it as well.

First, I really appreciate your help...now, let's make sure we are on the same page. I don't have a problem using internet sharing, that works fine. My issue is that I want the internet sharing program to start on my phone automatically whenever I connect to pc.
Oh, hilarious, I've been responding to you assuming you were the person who posted the original post. I've been trying to resolve his issue, not yours. Oops. As for your internet sharing issue, no idea. I use WMWifirouter for my WIFI and wired network sharing, and it works GREAT, though I do have to click the program icon before it fires up.
SUCCESS!!!
ok, so I went into the battery properties and unchecked the "when device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc" This reset whatever I was looking for and now when I connect to pc via usb and don't touch anything it automatically starts internet sharing and connects. LOVE IT!!!

The schedule option is grayed-out.
It's also grayed-out on the PC and you can enable it through the old fake server trick, but although it's set to manually, ActiveSync still syncs continously...
