Ok, I'm sorry for the total noob question, but I've been searching for the answer to this for a while. Is there a way to set my e-mail up to check using my wifi connection at home and work and using edge when I'm out and about?

Windows should use the fastest connection available to the system. Which means you need to be connected via wifi at home, and not when out and about.
It's all automatic.
According to Microsoft anyway
Yeah, my problem ended up being more of one of configuring my e-mail accounts to work with Cingular. Here is a great post on Cingular's forums that helped me out a lot:

Can someone please help to do over-the-air sync with Qtek 9100.
I have been trying for this a long time and never got it working.
Thank you,
Florian
Wi-Fi synching has been removed frm Activesynch 4.0 onwards by MS due to security concerns. That'll be why you can't get it to work.
If you want to synch using Bluetooth then search the forum as this has been discussed in length on several threads
Thank you for your prompt answer.
I was looking for internet sync thru Wifi or GPRS/Edge.
Is there another app out there that can do the job?

I believe some one has released a free patch to override the 'Wifi syncing in AS 4.0'. I don't have the file handy- but will try and post later if the original poster still wants it.
I've not tried it myself since I'm still using WM2003 and AS 3.8.
I would love the patch to enable WiFI active sync if someone could post it. cheers.

well, it seems to be a solution:
http://www.airscanner.com/downloads/airfix/airfix.html
didn't try it by myself, so - no idea if it's usable and functional. but - always one more option ;-)
cheers,
Radek
Yes, that's the same link that I got the patch from.
Maybe someone can try it out and post back results?
Actually, just read the text from the link and it quotes the following:
"Please note that AirFix is not designed to allow ActiveSync over a WiFi connection. Rather, it is a tool that allows you to enable the wireless network after you are already synced with the PC (e.g. with a USB ActiveSync connection)."
Perhaps not what people were looking for after all...
I am currently trying to set up the app.
Expect a post shortly.
Did not find a way to make it work.
Also their download page states :
Please note that AirFix is not designed to allow ActiveSync over a WiFi connection.
As I doubt they have a solution...
You can sync over the air via GPRS or WiFi to an Exchange Server without a problem, I do it everyday; to a PC I don't now if it's possible anymore.
The Airfix app is designed to prevent active sync closing your current wifi conex, nothing more. This will allow software developers to debug network code and allow you to keep a wireless connection whilest you sync. Most home users will use activesync passthrough from their pc->internet rather than wifi-> internet and so notice no difference
I want it to activate the data connection only when there is new mail on the exchange server, and then disconnect after the message is retrieved. Can this even be done given that the only way the mobile know that there is an email waiting on the server is being "poked" by the server through an IP connection.
Note that I am NOT asking for the activesync setting that synch's with the xchange server every 5/10/15/20/n minutes. I know about that and dont want to use that (that would be a pull, Im using push".
Anyone?

Doesn't that block the connection totally? He wants to receive the mails, but auto-disconnect between the connections...

No, "NoData" shuts the connection off when not in use, otherwise you could just turn off your data connection.

Because it says:
This applicatiopn allows you to Toggle the state of your data connections, ideal for roaming...
So, I really think it close the connection for everything you select (Px Internet, Px Live, Px MMS, PX Push).
We shall know if hokiemiata has tryed it...
Havnt tried it yet because I dont think it is what I am looking for.
How do I "Undo" this CAB if I dont like it?
Sorry All,
THIS was the program I was thinking of, I had the 2 mixed up.
No Data is only good for timed syncs.
All changes revert back after uninstall.

I have the best phone in the world and I cannot get Fishtext to work. Keeping on saying cannot connect. Check GPRS SETTING.
I have tried everything
Please help
do other programs work ok over gprs? can you surf the web? (turn off 3g to test )
FISHTEXT
Yes. I can do everything. Internet, skype, straming music.. You name it I can do it.. FISHTEXT. no..
does fish text require you to connect to a special server?
have you emailed fish text support? more likely to get an answer from them than from here.
Ip address
IT does connect to a special IP address. I have thought it my be the JAVA???
I have tried the support. Not very good at all.
just been to their site and they have a special page just for people with gprs problems. did you look through that?(it also means that chances are it isn't the phone at fault)
http://www.fishtext.com/GPRS/
hmmm sorry don't think I can help then. I get free texts in my contract so I've never used a service like fish text. sorry.

Hi!
Is there any way to enable the auto time Sync (Settings/Data Services/Internet time sync) with the WiFi connection?
The Clock is not synced when I am connected to a WiFi network with Internet access.
I use NoData to disable provider dataconnection.
I already set both options under "Start/Settings/Connections/Connections ->Advanced ->Select Network" to "My Work Network". Does the My Work Network need some special set up?
Thanks for any help or advice .
Test
Made a test with settings as above:
Changed Clock for +1 hour and wlan active all day.
It stayed the same all the time, no time sync via wlan at all.
Any ideas?

Sorry, reference to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. If you dont know it ... read it! The first 2 books are really great =).
Seems that no one knows a way to time sync via WLAN.
What a pitty .
Hello All,
I m new to my Tmobile G2 touch.....Just unlocked my phone via operator code....One of my friend was playing with my phone...He tries some wrong patterens to my phone and phone get blocked....Now its asking for gmail account....I have gmail account but unfortunately i don't know how to connect to internet via gprs as phone not giving any option to enter my gprs setting....
So can anyone tell me is there any way to bypass it or enter gprs settings to connect it to internet to activate it....?????

Muneeb Akhtar
I think that internet connection is not needed, as gmail password is already stored somewhere inside the software (assuming you have already set up your gmail account). You can also try to reinstall the official firmware.
