Bluetooth app / 2GB mini-SD card - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey, I noticed that the bluetooth app for WM2005 is super basic. Is there any way to make it like the one on the Blue Angel? Like so you can tell it when to accept files/when to require authentication/when to require autorization?
Also, it does my head in how I have to have IR on to recieve bluetooth files so everyt ime I go near my laptop it has a fit, trying to be an IR modem.
Also, has anyone tried a 2gb mini sd card? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2GB-Mini-SD-M...ryZ18871QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Moby Memory card working fine
There was a thread on here about memory cards before. My Moby 2Gb card is working fine <fingers crossed>.
Yes, the bluetooth app is pretty basic. There is a hack on here somewhere that can uncover more features (I think) but I've never needed to so I don't know where it is.

The Moby 2GB card does seem to be working ok - only had it a week though. £82 is not bad price as well.

Kool cheers guys. I think I'll grab one. Although lower capacity, using a PPC instantly renders iPod nano obsolete simply for voice command of Media Player while driving. It impresses girls no end
Hmm, could someone dig up the bluetooth hack for me? I don't have much luck with forum searches. No matter what I search for, it brings up EVERYHTING!

Secure Digital GPS Device available

With all of the issues regarding getting XDA II/Bluetooth/GPS to work together, I have found a site in the US that supplies a Pocket GPS device in SD form (SDIO only, so XDA II NOT XDA).
http://www.pharosgps.com/products/sdioportable/PSD80.htm
What I don't know is if this is used in an XDA 11 (Obviously using the SD slot) whether enough memory is available to run something like Tom Tom Navigator 2. Does anyone know? Or if not, is it possible to increase the XDA 11 Internal memory? I guess one big benefit is NO cables in the car and true portability as a Handheld GPS device. Any comments/advice or recommendations appreciated. Steve
TomTom can be configured with maps that use 16MB, 32MB, 64MB and 96MB (which gives you the whole UK). 64MB takes in all of England up as far as Liverpool and beyond, so if you are based in Southern England, you should be OK with that.
So yes, you should be able to use an SD based GPS, but you won't be able to fit too much other stuff on your XDA at the same time.
Guess it depends how much GPSing you do...

Thank you for your comments. I guess the ideal is to use GPS via Bluetooth, which was my original plan, thus using the SD slot for SD memory TT maps and other required data, as I like to hold quite a lot of information in my XDA II but there seems to be problems with TT2 GPS Bluetooth working with the XDA II. Also I have worries that I will get BTooth GPS TT2 working in conjunction with a BT Hands free car kit like the CK3000 and the XDA II at the same time? Steve
Using Bluetooth is what I do, and if you download the patch from Towa, it works just fine. I have a GPSmart which I use in the car most of the time, but it's nice to know that if I need to navigate by foot, I can do that too...
I use sd gps, its very good if you use gps on more that one vehicle, eg I use it on my car and motorbike, also very usefull for walking or cycling as it is a very compact gps unit. I got mine off ebay, and got 2 free gifts, one that converts the sd gps to pcmia, which is useful and the other gift is an external ariel, like you said though, maps use a lot of space. One other thing though, loading from internal memory is a hell of a lot quicker than sd card

Questions about the XDA2 from a novice

I'm about to buy one of these, but I've had trouble finding info about it. Everywhere just has the same basic list, so here's my questions:
1. Does it come with it's own cable/cradle, or other means of connectivity?
2. Does it come with a memory card? How big? And how much internal memory?
3. I am currently using a SonyEricsson P800, and the MP3 player is one of my favourite features. Can I play MP3s just as easily on this? And is it straight forward enough transferring them to the device?
4. Does it have MMS? If so, how functional is it? The P800's was excelent, allowing multiple pages, variable time per page, sound, multiple pictures, etc etc. But before that I had a Nokia 7650 which was limited to one picture with text, and no sound.
5. Flight mode?
6. Does bluetooth allow transfer of files to and from Symbian devices like the P800 and the Nokia 7650, 6600, etc?
7. Are any JAVA applications supported, or just the native Pocket PC format?
8. Anything else cool you wanna tell me?
9. Where can I find the full spec for this device? On here or another site?
Thanks in advance. I hope at least some of my questions can be answered
My answers..
1. Cradle, Ir and BT is included.
2. Mine comes with a dummy card, but try looking around for special offers. If i were you, I get a 256mb card. Why? When you do backing up, you are sure to use the Storage card memory to put it in. A 128MB SDcard is just not enough.
Internal RAM Size is 128Mbs, considered big for todays PDA standards.
3. MP3s? Simple to do it. But Infact, I dun download MP3s now to the XDAII cause the size is big. What i do is compress it to WMA (half the size) and still get good quality music. Just use your Desktop Windows Media Player to do it and even download it to the PDA from there.
4. MMS? Yes...but i'm not using MMS so can't really comment.
5. Flight mode? Yes. Just click on the Signal icon and select flight mode.
6. I really dunno. I use BT only for the Headset functions.
7. Depends on the ROM type. Mine does support Javas after downloading a software. But why Java? Pocket PC application and games are much more better...trust me.
8. Cool?..Yes, but wait for the XDAIII or even the new HP63XX?
Think that way.
If you still insist on the XDAII, I can say the screen, speed, memory and design is superb. The phone reception is comparable to any Nokia set.
9. You can try http://www.my-xda.com/ or look around in googles
I'm sure other members will help out.
Cheers Just remembered another one:
10. Does it come with a hand strap?
Nope, but it comes with a waist strap.
I think the XDA II is one of the fastest in it's class. 400mhz and the screen quality is great in comparison with other Pocket PC Phone. I was able to watch my 2 hour length movie just like I would with my iPaq.
It has fast bus, everything is much faster than my previous pocket pc. The great thing about this is that, which I just found out, if the OS crash, you can still use the phone function. Someone here said it's like 2 device, phone and pda.
Greetings fellow Nottinghamian!
Ex P800 and P900 user here, some points.
1. No, it doesn't come with a lanyard (hand strap) and I can't see anywhere to attach one. Looking back this would have been a good idea as I worry about the metal finish of the XDA2 slipping through my hands
2. It's slightly bigger than a P900, but the funtionality makes up for it. 400Mhz of raw power in your hand. Emulators, Games, flawless MP3/video playback and of course on the wonderful big screen.
3. The Px00 was a phone first, and a PDA second. The XDA2 is a PDA first, phone second. The phone side of the XDA2 is pretty good, especially when combined with a BT headset, but may lack features that you're used to, like T9 input.
4. SD memory is far cheaper and more available than Memory Stick DUO. Be sure to buy a fast SD card though, some people have reported problems with Sandisk cards. My cheapo Viking Interworks one from eBuyer works a treat!
5. Get a sync and charge cable or a second charger - the features on the XDA2 take their toll on the battery, but if you charge it nightly you'll be fine. I keep my cradle and charger at work and my sync & charge cable at home.
6. The camera on the XDA2 is still a VGA (640x480) camera like the Px00 but the CCD is far better and produces much nicer pictures. The camera also does a good job of taking video. There's no limit to video lengths either, unlike the stock P800.
7. There are several features in the pipeline for the XDA2. Windows Mobile 2003SE is a possible upgrade, featuring things like landscape mode and Blackberry support. Also, you can add a WiFi card to the XDA2 to access wireless hotspots (try the Broadway Cinema on Broad Street!).
I think that's it for now, but I'll post again if I remember anything.
Eeeeeehhhh!
What a coincidence. 2 P800-come-XDA2 users in the same city
Bit of an arse about the hand strap thing. I use mine ALL the time on my P800. You can't be too careful. Are you sure there's nowhere to attach one? Not even under the battery cover?
Ex-P800 user.
I used my P800 for 13 months before upgrading to an XDA2. Within hours of getting my XDA I felt like I'd just thrown my money away ever getting a P800 in the first place.
The XDA is FAR superior. The video and music capabilities as excellent.
As for T9 dialling, I have purchased PhonePlus II. It is superb and makes up for the only real weak part of the XDA 2 which was the phone functionality.
I also dropped my P800 a lot, 'cos I never used the shoulder strap. I haven't dropped my XDA2 yet but I'm sure the leather case will provide excellent protection. (Mine's insured anyway so I'll get a new one if I break it.)
Hope this helps...
Sounds good
I'm still going to look into attaching a wrist strap though. Coulda kept the one off my faulty digital camera, since the dumb ***** at argos never checked the box contents before she refunded me. I coulda kept the camera an' all
Have a look at the xda2 skin case here http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=XDA2SCCS
I know it doesnt show it in the photos, but I think it has a tab for a wrist strap
Just ordered my XDA2!!!
I'll let you know how I get on

Tom Tom On XDA IIi Please !!! Help !!!

I tried looking on the forums but my head started to hurt can anyone help me with this
I have just helped my friend setup Tomtom 5 in their XDA IIi they are using the standard O2 rom only other app installed is sprite back up
They are using a wired reciever
Tom tom opens fine and aquires 7 or 8 sats no problems
Route is planned and off they go
But after a couple of mins it locks completely
No phone calls or texts sent or recieved to make it lock up, it just stops
I havent got a clue cos it worked fine for me on my M1000 and now on my Wizard, (i know about unticking recieve in coming beams)
At frist i thought it my be the reciever but surely it would'nt aquire the sats in the frist place
Anyone got any clues ??
My firend has bought this set up because of the way i priased everything up, and now it wont work and i fell like a muppet, please help so i can sort it out and look more brainer than I am
Have you applied all the upgrades for TT5?
No we have'nt upgraded it yet if we upgrade to 5.2 will this sort it out ???
Had the same problem myself - after trawling thru posts here changed my sd card to a transcend x80 one and works fine now.
Apparently alot of slower cards won't work in the xda2i for tomtom.
My original card was a 512 sandisk (bog standard type) and when i tried tomtom it just locked up after a couple of minutes ( running tomtom5.21).
Since changing to the transcend x 80 its not locked at all.
I bought a 80x 1GB transcend card after looking at the forums...didn't stop it crashing.
My symptoms are:
1. Freezes at more or less defined/fixed regions in the journey - conclusion: the phone handoff singalling when moving from one cell to another is causing the sd card to stop working.
2. Taking the sd card out and immediately putting it back in will, most of the time, get the device back on track, without having to restart the xda or tomtom softwre (only works for a limited no. of tries...after that a rest is required).
My fix:
take the sim card out OR put the device into flight mode (if not using bluetooth).
Still worth getting a high speed 'quality; sd card (like a transcend) for your pda... it makes moving files back and forth much faster...and it's more stable when watching mini videos.
Same here!
TT5 also crashes and closes after a while on my QTek S100. I tried to take out the sim card, but didn't work. Any more suggestions?
sd card
if i buy a new sdcard how do i transfer the tomtom data from the old card, a question from a complete novice, keith

TomTom 5.21 hangs with 2GB SD Card

Hello all
I've done lots of searching on here and elsewhere and I've found lots of useful info but no definitive answer to this...
Until recently I was using TT5.21 with the original GB-only map on an unbranded 512MB SD card on my 3-year-old Himalaya (02 XDAII) with no problems. I then upgraded to the TT5 v6.60 Western Europe map and needed a new, larger SD card. Realising that my Himalaya is of advancing age, I avoided the latest high-speed cards and settled for a basic Kingston 2GB card.
Since then my TT has periodically frozen - often in one particular spot that I pass regularly, always whilst travelling in the same direction (edit: I pass the spot most days travelling both east and west but TT only freezes when going west). I have put this down to the well-documented issue of the Himalaya having insufficient oomph to power both the card reader when it is reading the TT map and the phone handshaking with a new cell.
I have uninstalled some little-used apps from storage memory and used the slider to allocate as much memory as possible to programs (original 02 WM2003 1.72 ROM). This has improved matters somewhat (I presume that the Himalaya does not have to read the map so often, thus reducing the chance of this activity coinciding with a cell change - am I right?) but I still get occasional freezes and only a soft reset and restarting TT sorts it out.
So far this has only happened on the open road and hasn't caused me too much trouble yet. However if I was in the city on an unfamiliar route it could get me into big trouble!
My question is - would a ROM upgrade sort this out? what about an updated driver for the card reader (is there such a thing or is it built into the ROM?)? am I using the wrong spec of SD card? or is it a hardware problem with the Himalaya that can never be fixed?
I have also read that an MMC card may solve the problem as it doesn't use as much power - any comments?
Thanks in advance
The Doctor
Sounds familiar..the only solution for me, was to obtain 2gb mmc card, and that solved my problems. I also had kingston 2gb, which was said to be compatible, but really wasn't.
Fixed!
Hi all
In the end I took Jarno's advice and switched to a 2GB MMC card. It's now been in use for several weeks with not a single freeze - thanks for the tip, Jarno666!
Of course, now that I've posted this the damned thing will of course freeze on the way home...
...the upside being that if it doesn't, I will know that it is really, really fixed.
Cheers

[Q] How to get NFC (near field control) on HD2

Hey everybody,
my girlfriend just got her new Xperia Sola, which is supporting NFC (near field control). Easily said, putting her phone into the car, it automatically activades Bluetooth speaker, Navigation software and GPS. When she arrives at work, it switches off ringtone, switches on vibration instead and shows automatically the calendar...
Pretty cool, because she doesn't need any button click to do all this, just lies it next to one of her smart tags.
Now to my question: How do get this to my HD2? Until now nearly everything on my good old phone was possible, so I hope somebody can help me to get this, too.
If You know where to get I would be glad! I also would like to know, if there is anything to change in my OS (installing special driver or so)
I am searching for a solution, where I (if I take a microSD card) still have at least 8GB (better 16 or more) external memory and which is not too expensive (the Xperia Sola You get for 180€, so I wouldn't buy such a micro SD card for 80€ just to get NFC)
Thank You already very much for Your help, any suggestions are welcome (except: "Why do You need NFC?")
What I already found out:
NFC you can (theoretically) get if you buy a special micro SD card (means memory plus NFC chip). Unfortunately, I didn't find any useful offer on ebay or via websearch (I found hundreds of different articles which say "just buy such a card", but only one seller: Moneto. And this one is no one which is not usable for me).
There is also said, its possible to get this on a SIM card, but I am not sure, if this is working without changing my telephone contract.
My phone data:
HTC HD2 with Android 4.1.1
