hello,
I have been trying to help my brother in law set up a SPV M2000 to work with his 3COM wireless internet router.
The phone sees the router but he is unable to enter the WEP key as a 26 character hex code.
does this model of phone support 128 bit WEP?
thanks
richard.

I have been trying for the last 3 days to configure my SPV M5000 to my Linkys router with no luck.
I have tried using an open network with no encryption and this works fine for the M5000 but I don't want an insecure network lol
I usually have the network set up in a fashion WPA, TKIP + AES. This works fine for all my other wireless units. Though no luck with the M5000 badge by Orange.
I have tried to set up the WEP 128 pre-shared key with the unit & the other devices, this works fine for the other units but not the M5000.
Therefore I'm wondering if anyone has got this configured & working preferably using WPA, TKIP + AES with MIXED mode and or G.

I have tried that setup with Qtek 9100 and WRT54G, also without luck.
Although I haven't really investigated it any further, it seems that the Wizard don't support AES. With WPA-PSK + TKIP it works fine.
Note that if you use 'G-only', you probably need to apply the 'G registry hack' described elsewhere in the forum.
Howto fix this issue:
1. Goto
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...835852&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper
2. Get the Firmware upgrade for the unit WRT54GSV4_1.06.1_US_code.zip
3. Follow instructions in the zip to the letter.
4. Once Router is Upgraded then reset it with the small button on the rear.
5. This will leave the router without it being secure which is good only for the cofiguration of the SPV M5000.
6. If there is a configuration for the phone then delete it & create a new config.
7. Set the SPV M5000 Authentication to OPEN
8. Set the Data encryption to DISABLED
9. You should now be abled to connect to the internet
10. On the router, if you already have a previous configuration use that to replace the last good config on the router.
Mine had all the encryption set up to use TKIP.
If yours doesn't then follow the manual to set this up for encrypting the connection.
Below is a short list on howto do this n the SPV M5000.
11. You can set the SPV M5000 to WPA-PSK for Authentcation
12. Set the Data encryption to TKIP
13. Enter the Network Key ie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
14. Turn on wireless on the SPV M5000
15 . All should be now working for access to the internet.
I hard coded my IP address into my SPV M5000.
I have Mac address Filtering working on my WRT54GS v4. (Permit only)
Hard code he DNS servers
The Subnet Mask is set to allow only 4 hosts.
The wireless mode is set to mxed.
The SSID once the unitis setup is set to not broadcast as it is remembered, in the configuration on the SPV M5000.
Firewall protection on, on all options
No VPN Passthru
This should be good enough for securing the Linksys and securing the access to your SPV M5000... I wished there was a firewall on the unit & some Anti-Virus for the unit so therefore be very careful where you browse & don't use the the Outlook Messaging client to access the pop3 server drectly, unless you use the ActiveSync option to get emails from the pc/laptop. Then you limit the chance of the device getting corrupted.
As for browser security ) There's is none !!! Watch out

Hi, maybe someone could be of any help
I tried out allready a lot and do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.
I am trying to get a TyTn to connect to CISCO APs using WPA with LEAP or PEAP or WPA-PSK and i do not manage to get it connected. The TyTn "sees" the network (SSID is hidden), tries to connect but did not manage to get connected. I tried with allmost any ROM available here. At the moment i am using the I-Mate on:
ROM version: 1.20.305.3
ROM date: 07/21/06
Radio version: 1.07.03.10
Protocol version: 32.41.7010.02H
Any help would be appreciated
Same problem here w/the Cingular 8525 and Cisco AP
Been the Cingular 8525 the same as the HTC TyTN, and using Cisco AP's at work I'm experiencing the same problems here.
The Cisco AP log shows a failure on the TCP/IP handshake when my 8525 tries to authenticate. We're also using WPA-PSK. Cisco support analyzed the log and found no explanation on why it cannot complete the 3 way handshake.
I can use WPA-PSK in my home network with a D-LINK DI-524 w/o any problems.
The next test will be to try a Linksys/Cisco router and WPA-PSK at a friends place, also I will try WEP (just for testing) at work and if I can w/o any encryption on the Cisco AP that is giving me problems.
I'll also try contacting HTC Support.
Thanks to anyone that could help, I will post any results of my tests.
Cyberg
The Wizard doesn't seem to support AES. Maybe other HTC devices have the same problem. I've also had trouble with routers running in dual AES/TKIP mode. Try setting TKIP only.
WM5 does not support AES. WM6 supports!!!
Entering the following line in the Cisco AP Config fixed it for me:
dot11 wpa handshake timeout 1000
I too am having troubles with the tytn and cisco AP's.
Ive done some testing
Encryption: none works
Encryption: WEP64/128 works when entering code in HEX
Encryption: WPA-PSK (HEX KEY, 64 digits) works
Encryption: WPA-PSK (ascii, 8-63 digits) FAILS
I will try the dot11 wpa handshake timeout 1000 later today, hope it fixes it.
Also noticed that my Hermes won't connect to my parents router (SSID hidden, WPA-PSK of about 16 digits). Somewhat frustrating, but never mind. Router in question is a Thomson Speedtouch 5xx (can't remember exact model number).
Go into Wireless LAN & Power Mode & max it out to Best Performance.
Same problem here... with my Tytn and an old 3com OfficeConnect b.
No way to enable WEP encryption (authentification will always fail).
Working perfect now with data encryption disabled: connection security made by letting only authorized mac-address to connect.
This way is also more secure than WEP encryption, am I right?
I will try the dot11 wpa handshake timeout 1000 later today, hope it fixes it.

Neither of these fixed it.
Its like the Hermes will only accept 64bit Hex key, which is fine but one of my other devices will only accept upto 63bit Ascii key
I had issues with my Cisco 1100 AP's and read somewhere on Cisco's website that QoS must be disabled on the Radio interface to get WPA/WPA2 to work:
Code:
interface Dot11Radio0
no dot11 qos mode
It worked for me
Andy
ADB100: Tried your code, still not working
Ive gotten WPA to work but only when useing the full 64digit key in HEX,
I think the Tytn has troubles with using ascii in WPA.
I had the same problem as the starter of this topic with Linksys WAG200G router, just couldn't set up to connect with WPA, so I switched back to disabled security with restriced access on trusted MAC address, and now it works like a charm.
WPA-PSK
Works for me. I have a Linksys WRT54G, and an 1100 AP. Connects to either of them seamlessly.
Just to add some more info in case anyone else stumbles on this thread.. had very same issues with WM5 on stock Hermes (T-Mobile VarioII). Had to unprotect the netork and rely on MAC filtering
Installing WM6 using Black 2.5 (now on 3.0) sorted the problem immediately. It seems some routers expect certain things from the device when using encryption that WM5 can't always provide (AES has already been mentioned). Yet another god reason to upgrade to WM6
Router here is Philips SNB 5600.
Hi
I'm having a similar problem with my Orange M700 (HTC Prophet) and Netgear DG834G.
Anyone any great ideas???
Andy
Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a Belkin Wireless G router and an Orange SPV M600. I have tried to connect my SPV to the router with mixed results. If I disable my WPA-PSK I can connect with no problems in both B and G, as soon as I re-secure the router my SPV won't connect. I have ensured that the PSK is correct and tried the speeds at only B and only G. In the menu it says that my network is available then after 2 attempts to connect it then says that the network is unavailable. As you can appreciate I don't want to run my router unsecured.
All advise gratefully received

Hi,
Do you have the same problem with an other device like a laptop ? You may have a problem with you router ?
try using wep or mac filtering or both, both are very reliable. i have had mixed results with WPA on mobile devices (and printers).
I have ran into this problem as well. I have a Netgear WNR834B router ("N" router). I have to set it to b/g in order for my 8525 to connect. Otherwise, it just sits there for awhile saying it's connecting and then gives the same unavailability error.
Hmm.did you find a solution?
Hi,
I haven't resolved the problem with my router. The router works fine with laptops and only my phone won't connect. The interesting thing is, when I go to other peoples houses where they run wi-fi I don't have a problem connecting even with WPA. Thanks for the replies, hopefully someone will turn up with a solution.

I have been unable to fix with my wanadoo router though.
Hey
I've been trying to connect to the internet through my Orange Livebox using a WiFi connection from my SPV 3100.
I tried all settings but couldnt connect to the Livebox at all.
I found a post about using a static IP to connect on another forum this actually had success in that it actually managed to connect to the Livebox and the internet but after a certain period the connection randomly seems to drop and after a while doesnt connect at all.
I havent changed any of the settings on the Livebox, I've tried almost everything on the M3100 but to no success.
If anyone has had success achieving this could they please let me know how they managed to do it.
All help appreciated and thanks in advance
Has you livebox got a button on it? If it has its the pairing buttonn... You need to hold that when pairing... I know you had to do that on the old wanadoo liveboxes...
Yes it has and i have been using it as per the instructions.
Thanks for your help
Has any1 else managed to use their SPV M3100 to access the web thru their Orange Unlimited Livebox if you have managed it can you please let me know how u managed it.
Thanks in advance again
Hi,
I have managed to get my 3100 working with my Orange Livebox.
Make sure you have pressed the pairing button on the livebox.
I found that I had to change the settings on my phone in the 'Configure Network Authentication' section to :
Authentication - OPEN
Data Encryption: WEP
and then enter the WEP key found on your Livebox.
Hope this helps,
Mark
Thanks Mark
I've done that already to no avail
Was there by chance anything else you did to the settings?

The above worked for me. I entered my key in capitals
Thanks everyone after some trial and error tests in a different environment i found the problem to be nothing more malicious than a simple Livebox wireless channel clash where i'm using the box is pretty densely residential and i think the sheer number of wireless networks made it impossible for my SPV 3100 to connect using the default wifi channel 1 after picking an ubscure channel (11 i think) i've had no problems and am actually posting this message using my 3100 through a wifi connection to my Livebox
Thanks again everyone
Hi,
I have a SPV M700 and I am attempting to connect it to my wireless router. The Router has WPA as the security. I have gone through the confirguation on the SPV M700 but I get stuck on the to the EAP Type. I cannot untick the box which states "Use IEEE802.1X Network work Access Control". The only options I have is select either PEAP or Smart Card or Certificate. If I then hit the properties button for either the PEAP or Smart Card or Certificate. It states "cannot log on the wireless network. This network requies a Personal certificate to positively Identify you". If I hit the finish button all it states is my network is available and I am unable to connect.
Is there anyway of connecting to my router via WAP? How do I get a PEAP or Smart Card or Certificate from my router ?
I know its bad form to reply to your own post but I think I have discovered the problem. Its the Zoom Router that I am using that is causing the Problem.
I borrowed a Dlink router and it connects with no problems straight away. I also discovered I can connect to unsecured networks in my street also with no problems.
Anyhow I spend hours trying to configure the Zoom Router from no security to full security to no avail. I have change every setting on the router, once again to no avail. I have contacted Zoom themselves to find out what could be the issue. So far they are clueless.
So my advice is don't use a Zoom Router with WM5 or WM6
So anyone got a suggestions for a router that works with there SPV M700?
