Magician with integrated WiFi??? When??? Any one nows something about it's posibility?
Thanks!!
They sell SD cards with integrated Wifi. Both 128 and 256 mb versions.
Just search the usual web stores...
This is how it works:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...25ab0&threadid=511311&perpage=15&pagenumber=2
But the adapter protrudes a lot.
No no...
I'm asking if anybody knows... Is HTC working on other versiĆ³n of the Magician with builtin WiFi & 128Mb RAM???
Magician would be perfect if it have two new functions.
Anybody knows anything about this???
Thanks!
P.D: Sorry, my english is so bad
There was someone saying that they saw a XDAII with a wifi card soldered inside of the casing, if you found enough room, which would not be hard as the cards are so small.
Thats a idea
It's a good idea but... I'm founding anything more easy to an normal PDA user.
Better if the WiFi come's inside from factory ;-)
Has anyone successfully used the new Linksys WCF54G 54 Mpbs card with an O2 XDA (or any XDA)? I ask as I need 54Mpbs to use Skype without the stutters I get from 11Mpbs using a Sandisk SDIO 802.11b (11Mpbs) card.
I only ask as when I first bought my XDAII I used a Sandisk CF card in the O2 backpack and cold never get it to work. The SDIO card worked straight away. I was never sure if it was crappy Sandisk software or hadware or both. :?:
Hi
It's not the wlan speed problem it's rather weak processor ~400mhz and software. Any of modern PocketPC's can't harness 802.11b speed not talking about 802.11g. So my advice is at first try to tweak wavedev using registry tweak if it doesn't help try to overclock processor.
here is reg tweak
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev
change key Priority256 from it's default 110 to 80
in my device MDA Compact the default value was 256 and I changed it to 128 and all works smooth no stutter sound
yeah seing how slow xda's can read and write to sd memory compared to sdcard readers i would doubt that it could benefit much from a sd wifi 54Mb card
XDA 54Mbps wireless CF card

It's a CF card not a SDIO. Maybe quicker?
54Mpbs Wireless v. Overclocking

I cannot readily see the equivalent of REGEDIT .... any suggestions?
Thanks.
CF cards are by itself little faster than SD but you can find it out in PC card reader not PPC
registry editor http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/

There's no such setting as key Priority256 in the O2 XDAII. I'd say it is machine specific. I guess I'll just have to take a punt on the CF card and hope that works with Skype ....
Hey
take this program http://www.gb-soft.cz/xdaII/products.htm it's designed for XDA II and it adds some tweaking to GPRG connection but also changes the audio media streaming priority since it's for XDA II it must work!

Shamus: Thank you for this. It helped a little ... and clearly proximity to the Wireless AP plays a part. However, compared to my notebook which is running at between 36Mpbs and 54Mbps in the same location ... there are still clicks and the odd dropout.
The 54Mbps CF card is still looking to be the best option. I'll just make sure that the retailer/e-tailer will take it back if it doesn't work
stewarta other thing I needed to do with MDA Compact to achive smooth audio in skype was processor overclocking, without it I also had scratchy sound sometime. Try to overclock, it will help a lot. I'm using Pocket Hack Master, the best in this field in my opinion

Hi!
I have a O2 XDA II. If I'll to buy the Linksys WCF54G 54 Mpbs card I suppose I'll get a faster connection.
I also have the backpack for the O2 XDA II.
Now, the question is which overclocking software supports the backpack? AFAIK overclocking softwares does not support the backpack and if such software will to install you get problems reading files from the backpack's CF card
Any adavice? Thanks

Pocket Hacket Master is a great product ... particularly as you can define CPU etc slicing for various applications. However, it didn't help with audio quality at 11Mbps. :?

audio quality could be excellent at 11mbps, but as others said, the ppc itself is the bottleneck to audio quality, not the wireless speed. web-surfing over an 802.11b connection varies greatly in speed between a ppc and a real computer, and the audio is accordingly different quality as well

I can now report that the Linksys WCF54G 802.11g WiFi card works well in my O2XDAII. So well that there is no static or stuttering with FM radio stations or with Skype. I wanted to get a clean signal when using Skype, and that is what I now have. At last a good product from a great brand (Linksys is a brand of Cisco Systems). You don't need Hackmaster CPU speed-up or any other fiddling about as I tried with the Sandisk SDIO card ... which is now for sale on e-Bay!!
I just want to say that I have recived my Linksys WCF54G 54 last week and I am surprised... It's woks faster than my C-guys Sd card.

Yes ... it is so much faster than a SDIO card ... something to do with the architecture. I sold my SDIO card on e-Bay.

I am happy to report that the Linksys WCF54G 802.11g card coupled with my Himalaya O2 XDA II running Windows 2003 SE (see Radio details below) works well with Skype. Those at the other end also report a clear link. Turn XCPUScalar off though as my expereinces suggest a fixed CPU speed is best.

I have a c-guys SDIO card, but it doesn't work with my MDA COMPACT II. Does anybody know why? I downloaded a WM5 driver but no psoitive results...
First of all let me thank all the people in this forum for all the efforts been made to make the magician experience a lot better
I was reading some foruns, reviewing some pda specs when i realized that qtek 9000 has the same type of processor as the magician... i was wondering if somekind of modding of the qtek 9000 rom and the Wizard one could be made...
Just my 2 cents
no matter how you do it and even if it is possible, you will find that you just won't have enough Storage space. Even with BigStorage, you may find in the end, you're left with less than 3MB at the end of the day after upgrade to WM5
I guess it just wouldn't be a big deal to install the extra apps to a storage card if the storage space was enough for the system to work... who knows... just had to try it out. WM5 is not a priority for me, but like the rest of the people who hang around here these days i have some curiosity if it would work or not... as i said...
just my 2 cents...
When you use wm5 for a little while, it does become important to you I think.
Theoretically it is possible for the Magician to be upgraded to WM5. The only problem is that the way Magician's ROM is setup makes it limited for space..first of all, without big storage, you only have 7MB in storage. With BigStorage you get 27MB free space.
WM5 does not store anything in RAM so you only have Storage to store the program. The way HTC has architect the ROM makes it impossible for them to releae a WM5 upgrade for Magician so if one were to upgrade to WM5, one will have to DIY the upgrade themselves but it will involve freeing up more space and gain access to the entire ROM. Merely BigStorage of 27MB is just not enough space for a WM5 upgrade unless the WM5 is hacked to include only the bare minimum.
So a lot of work there....
It said in the descriptions that the Andes is also sold as xda2i? But Alpine has the exact same description. Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference? And if indeed I own an "Andes", would I be able to use the Himalaya Rom Upgrades?
Thanks
yeah same thing confuses me too, did u find answers?
i have both a xda2 and a xda2i, the 2i has wifi, a more powerful cpu and more memory.
but is essencially the same but it cannot take a xda2 rom. due to its differances.
how to make a big stroage rom for herald?
i had know how to do it for hermes ,but unknow herald!
so who can tell me how to do it for herald.
Hermes and Herald ,they are DIY big storage same or different ?
i'm pretty sure big storage on the hermes and herald work differently even though i don't know how big storage on the hermes works.
What we do is reincorporate space that the extrom takes up into the storage space. Ask ivan for more details, but last i checked (a looong time ago), it was some kind of secret
I take no responsibility for the factual accuracy of this post.
this is hermes ,how to bulid big storage os.nb
