Video Streaming - What is the best solution? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I've read there are some way to stream video to ppc.
Who can guide me to the best solution?
Orb?
VCL?
and what client?
tcpmp?
media player?
I would like an easy and free solution.

tcpmp is the best choice u can ever find.
encode use DivX.I suggest u try a software named Movie2Memcard.
WOW,if you got Need for Speed, that software is yr most wanted.

If he say streaming, I guess he is asking opening the media thru the network.
Here is what I did using Apache Web Server (or whatever web service) and TCPMP:
1. Install any web server and place the music or video under the root (or it's sub-directry)
2. In TCPMP, add playlist. enter "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" where thouse xxx are the IP or URL.
It works for me even doing it wirelessly thru bluetooth activesync (should work better under wifi). The only problem is TCPMP still having a bug in reading file or directry name for double bytes charecters. So, my songs in Chinese file name cannot be read. I filed a bug and waiting for a fix.....

Ah, forget to mention. Above menthod is not real streaming but opening the media over network
U can use Windows Media Encoder (free d/l from MS) to act as stream server. Then U have full control of bitrate over the streaming server. I don't like this method since the streaming server control what is playing. Not the client (yr PDA). But this is good for broadcasting TV program from yr PC or webcam.

Hey man, you saved my life!!! I've spent months trying to open a movie stored on PC through Blue-crap. I've tried every streaming server available (apple's, real's, microsoft's) without ever succeeding. I tried every program i was able to find for both my old P900 and my Magician, but nothing. And, today, i read your post and i realize how simple it is!!! I cannot believe i was so dumb!!! You're great man, my hero!!!
Thanks A LOT!!!
Bye

Just an update. The latest version can play filename or directry name w/ double bytes characters (eg: Asian character).

Streaming video in WMP....help..:)

Hi,
I'm using the Orb app from www.orb.com, which allows you to stream any media you have on you pc over the net. It allows me to stream my videos with wmp on my EXEC!!!!
However, here's the problem... The video is encoded by orb to a lower resolution than 640x480 and therefore cannot be displayed full screen in wmp.
I have 2 questions to hopefully give me a way of fixing my problem...
1. Is there any other media plyer for the exec that can play stream files?
2. If not, is there a way to modify wmp in any way with a reg/hex editor to make it display full screen?
cheers guys!!
P.S is there anyway to watch the stream from shoutcast tv in WINAMP on the Exec??
what's the URL in WMP?
orb is awesome ... i'm using it to stream live tv to my laptop from my MCE server, but how do you get it to stream to the EXEC?
when i try, pvplayer intercepts the .sdp file and then buffers to give me a low res .3gp display ... which over Wifi is pretty poor. as usual, any help appreciated ...
TIA
you don't put any URL into wmp directly, you have to browse to my.orb.com in pocket IE and then browse to your videos and thn just select the file....wmp will open up automatically....
To make sure it opens your video in wmp, you have to go into the setup section on my.orb.com and make sure that windows media player is set as your favourite player.
Only the problem with that is, is that you can't full screen it! Can anyone help with my original question?
Must admit tho ORB is awesome!!
P.S do you connect via wifi??? If you do can you check and see if you can get the videos to stream with realone player....cos then you'd be able to get full screen. I don't have wifi yet so can't test....
Let me know if that works!
yup, selecting windows media worked fine - somehow i had expected the setting to be server side! sorry didn't get a chance to check out real player ... maybe later today.
ok, regarding resize problem in WMP mobile - this is a known bug and since WMP is in ROM, you'll need to wait for HTC to provide fix ... maybe!
in the meantime, you may want to install TCPMP http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/TCPMP-Download-29994.html
and do a reg hack to switch default player, as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
change String 1
from wmplayer.exe
to
"\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe"
or
"\Storage Card\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe" if its installed on SD.
you will need at least version 0.71 o TCPMP which understands WMP10 http streams.
voila - full screen in landscape live streaming!
hi
just tried the modified registry entry and......zilch! can you confirm that the settings above work?
thanks
mikey mike
copy it exactly and it will work, quote symbols, capitals etc....
I had the same problem and hit my head when i relised that it was such a simple thing to fix.

I also had this problem. TCPMP worked great, but I could not get it to be the default. Then I tried keying it in exactly as posted on another thread including the quotes and it has worked great.
It is nice to have full screen. I use it to watch cable TV via gprs and wifi using orb. And also to watch saved TV shows or DVD's. Too Bad WMP does not have full screen. WMP seems to work better over GPRS.
It doesn't work on my MDA Pro. I have changed the string 1 like written above, but my defoult player is still WMP. I use TCPMP 0.71. Have tried program "My Extension" too, but WMP is still the defoult player. What culd be the reason?
After reading this thread ive downloaded ORB and got everything working but i want to use TCPMP as my default player (for full screen), but because im such a dummy i dont know how to do a reg hack. I have TCPMP already so can someone tell me where to start with this reg hack thing. Please Thankyou.
Thanks for the reg change. Just made the change exactly as posted above inlcuding the speech marks and it works great. ORB is a lot more useful with full screen video.
Have to make sure that you kill off media player before you test it either by a reset or some sort of task manager. Just using the X to close it isnt enough.
use phm (free) or by resco explorer to do the registry changes.
if youare a big user of these devices your going to need it.

WiFi streaming

Using the WiFi on the prophet, is it possible for me to listen to music from my computer's hard drive via the Prophet from another room?
Yes quite simply using standard windows shares. I set up a favorite in MortPlayer.
Anither option would be to install uPNP server software on your PC, something like Microsoft's Media connect and then get a uPNP player on the PPC. I think Nero Showtime Mobile supports uPNP and is currently free.
nero showtime mobile
hi, can u tell me here to download nero showtime mobile player? can't find it on official site (

Windows Media Encoder
Hi,
I found that the easiest way to do this is to install Windows Media Encoder 9 Series from Microsoft. You can set up your own broadcasting station with that. Install, choose content to stream, set desired compression, and voila, you'll be broadcasting to the whole world if you want to.

AbuYahya,
Are you sure you have the correct path from your WMP10 on your mobile? From WMP10, open URL and Put in your ip/local pc path and then add /live at the end as that is the default for WME9 broadcasting name.
Cheers...
re:WME
thanks it works with the suffix of "/live"
thanks again
What settings do you need in WE9 as everytime I try to connect to the stream I get a cannot play the format error. I am streaming MP3 files. Can't seem to get this to work at all with WMP10 Mobile.
Any help would be appreciated.
I use MediaMonkey with the Oddcast plugin going to an Icecast server. Foobar2000 is the best PC client and, of course, Mortplayer on Windows Mobile devices. There does seem to be a problem with Mortplayer if you stream in .ogg but .mp3 works perfectly. All free software too!

Network Media Player?

Hello guys, new to the forum, and new to Windows Mobile, so please be gentle!
I have a networked hard-disk in the house with about 20GB of media on it, and I was hoping that there would be a way for me to map the drive within Windows Mobile, when connected over WiFi.
Doesn't seem to have worked. I managed to browse the drive using Total Commander (which is one stop further than I ever got on my N95), but when I try and launch an mp3, I get an error in WMP. I suppose I could use TotalCommander to sideload the files onto the X1, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having the central-drive then.
Anyone got any ideas? Are there any media players which can play networked files over WiFi? Are there any clever network settings or tweaks which I am missing?
As a random aside, has anyone managed to do anything clever between the X1 and the Playstation 3? E.g. media streaming, or even better, using the X1 as a blu-ray \ media remote for the PS3?
I had hoped seeing as how they were both Sony that there would be some clever convergance. Or am I being rediculously optimistic?
Try core player..
It's the best. I play movies from my NAS navigating with Total Commander..
Not quite the same, but I've been using Orb to stream to my X1, that uses your internet connection if you want, and gives you access anywhere, not just at home.

Thanks for the tip.
Just to be sure... you navigate using TotalCommander, and open the file in Core Player and it plays across the network? This would be exactly what I was looking for.
Shame there is no demo of Core Player to try it out. :-(
get Conduit Pocket Player, and stream the media files via UPNP.
- Core Player really works. I use it too.
- Pocket Player is ok too, but it doesn't support XviD, DivX etc.
I am using Total Commander but cannot find how to map/access netwroked drives. How to do it?
I have 6 500 GB hard networked drives (yes total of 6 TB) of media files which I can access on networked laptops and stand alone media players. It will be very good if I can access them from my Xperia as well.
I was wondering how you see the files with total commander as well?
Via the LAN plugin.
For me on my home network I just entered the machine name and up popped the shared folders.
Video files didn't stream fast enough though for me, but a nice way to move files from phone to PC without cables.
Still cannot find it. I am connected to the my home network and can access the internet and get e-mails on the X1. But cannot see the shared drives on my desktop!
I looked for the LAN plugin but could not find it.
FOUND it, but I can see only some and not all shared drives. That is a start!

Does CorePlayer also work in Landscape on your X1? It doesn't on mine, the screen is distorted...

Load Total Commander. Get to the root of the phone \
Here in the directory view you should have at the top \\Plugins
Open this "folder" and inside you should have LAN, open this "folder" and you should be able to do a _Quick open here just enter the machine name, you'll be prompted for a username and password (leave blank if not required) and the shared directories should be visible.
I follow that through and can see the music on the network drive. But when I click on a song to play it, Windows Media Player returns with an error:
"Incorrect Parameter"
I assume Total Commander is passing the path of the file as a command line parameter into WMP, but this is incapable of seeing the network drive, therefore can't resolve the path.

Does either Core or Pocket Player work with a DLNA server such as TVersity? I seem to recall DLNA support being mentioned for the X1 around the time it was announced last year.
I too would be interested to see if Sony comes up with a way to interface the X1 with the PS3, possibly using Remote Play a'la the PSP.

Pocket Player has DLNA support the last I know (UPnP).
Coreplayer is supposed to have the support but I think the developers had push out the timeline to have this support. Or maybe they have already includd in their latest version and I'm not aware of.

I managed to launch a song into WMP successfully yesterday, when I took a look at the properties the file location was
\\megadrive\my documents\my music\album\track.mp3
Does it have a limit on the size of the shared drives?
I can see drives of 60 GB and play video and music but not the 500 GB drives!
Any ideas?
Wouldn't have thought so. It's reading my 250gb

Coding to Play streaming PLS (ShoutCast)

Hey folks, I'm trying to write an app to play a PLS stream from a ShoutCast server, any advice? I'm able to stream standard MP3s using the MediaPlayer class, but it doesn't seem to work with PLS files.
Hi,
a PLS file is a playlist file not an actual media(sound/video) file, you can open it with your favorite text editor. To be able to listen to a stream you need to be able to decode the media type(AAC,MP3,WMA,...) thats what codecs are for
Yeah, I know, I tried using the adress in the .pls but it wasn't playing/nor throwing an error. I was pretty sure it was a valid codec being used (it works fine with a static mp3 path), so I guess I'll have to check with the settings on the ShoutCast server.
Thanks for the reply.
I'm interested in that idea of being able to listen to streams on the go. I did a quick google search and found out that there already is a stream player for android out there, called AntPlayer.
I think it's available on the market, and if the source is open maybe you can take a look.
I'm going to look it up on the market and see if it plays di.fm streams
Droidlive?
Yeah, I found a few that can do it, but haven't found any open source options yet. I'll look into AntPlayer. I'm trying to create an app for our university's radio station.
Any updates? I'm looking to do the same.
Same problem here!

How to stream internet audio on the HD2?

It seems like the basic music player doesn't support streams, there doesn't appear to be any support in windows media player for streams either...
In the end I searched for some tools and GSplayer came up as supporting streams, so i tried that and copied the CAB install file to the storage card, it showed up in the start menu...I can run it and open a URL or local .pls file and it starts to stream...you see the percentage buffer quickly shoot up to 100% but then nothing happens...no audio, nothing.
I'm basically trying to play audio from an internet radio station I use a lot at home (xfm.nl) if you click "Luister Live" on the left you'll see shortcuts for all the streams.
Can anyone help? My settings are OK I think, I can get to the internet and recieve my email and use all the web based apps, so I don't think its a connection thing...maybe GSPlayer just doesn't support the HD2?
Try Skyfire browser.

I have WunderRadio but since you know the stream you want to play coreplayer will open it.
I just tried this using Skyfire and GSPlayer.
I clicked on the Winamp mobile link, and it downloaded the .pls stream to my storage card. GSPlayer opened automatically. I've set GSPlayer to own .pls files, so maybe that would help.
Just tried clicking on the downloaded .pls file and it also opens up GSPlayer. Hope that helps! At least you know that it can work
I want to know something fairly similar, is it possible to make a player stream a song or file instead of having to download it first. Sometimes with very large files I just want to play it and let it download as it plays instead of waiting for the entire file to download before being able to play it.
Try Groovemobile or nanogroove.
I just upgraded from a Touch Pro 2.
I have a few shoutcast .pls files I used to open and stream in coreplayer 1.3.6 build 7427 with no problems.
I have changed from o2 to orange but all other streaming seems ok (e.g nanogroove/groovemobile/youtube/myplayer etc).
On the HD2 when I try to open the .pls files I get an unknown file format (0106) error or sometimes coreplayer just crashes.
Anyone know how to get coreplayer working with there files again?
I enjoy accessing last.fm using the skyfire browser.
Try SPB Radio, pretty good!
I just wanted to thank everyone posting suggestions, I will be trying some of them out soon
There is also coreplayer which handles .pls and .m3u file attachments.
