I'm talking about the little ones at the bottom of the today screen, right above where it says "contacts". How can I get rid of them, and use that line up for a today plugin instead?
Cheers

Might be a setting in PI. I use PI2005R4 and I don't get tray icons. I don't use reminders..that might be why??? Your correct; haven't been able to disable the tray except by not using programs that put icons in the tray
Also, SBSH.net iLauncher has the ability to put shortcuts and meters--not the imate battery icon--in the tray. Previously, I did this to take up space on the tray line that would otherwise be wasted. Someone/somewhere stated that they were able to set the tray to use only one pixel..I was not able to figure how this was done. Wished I'd have remember to ask.
-Michael.
mjohns - IIRC the tray was being hidden (not set to 1 pixel).
This is to maintain compatibility with other applications, whilst also freeing up the space in the Today screen to its maximum potential.

Wow, what's the Time/Date Giant on your Today ? I like it, I'll take it
The large date plugin is VJAudioNotes
But this has now been replaced by VJEphemeris.
I use VJEphemeris on my Magician, day to day.
But (un)fortunately, VJEphemeris has been replaced by VJSihaya! (long term development).
The screenshot with the hidden tray, above, is using VJToggleToday WM5. But unforunately it's not entirely finished yet (need to put a bit of a UI on it perhaps). It only needs a few more days on it, but I've been exceptionally busy the last week at work, so no time to program at all. Thank God it's Friday!

Why? Because it useless and it ocupies a line of space that could be used by a today plugin!!!
TrayDisplay is what you need!!! Built with ATL C++, it comes in two files:
HideTray: that makes tour system tray invisible;
DisplayTray: that makes tour system tray visible!!
It makes a shortcut on your \Windows\StartUp folder so that everytime you reset your PPC, it will hide the tray!
When the file is run, it makes it's job and then end's so that it doesn't stay in memory.
This file is not a patch, but an application!
Only works with Windows Mobile 2005!
Hope I'll get some feedback
19/11/2005 (1.0.0.2)
Bug fixed: screen rotation, then execute TrayDisplay would make the height of the plugins to be wrong!

Thanks !

It doen't! The problem is, since the application runs, hides the tray and resizes the plugins and then end's, when you rotate the screen you have to manualy run the app again :?
I just installed it and it created the icons in program menu and the HideTray in StartUp folder
But when I reset my Universal the TrayBar is visibile... if I then launch the HideTray icon from the program folder the TrayBar hides...
Why doesn't it hide at startup?
Can you make it work with 2003SE. I am sure there are lot of people will appriciated your work.

I think it's possible, i'll try to do that and post the results here later
It's works on my Wizerd (i-Mate K-JAM), the icons gone but the space not reclame back, it this normal? if so I think it is better if you can move the Unlock function to this line and the user name too so we can save space on the screen (optional). but if we can gain the line to be part of the screen it is much better option.
Thanks,
harryphung;

Using the app to ghost reminders on WM2003
V
I was sure I had seen something for WM2003 somewere!!
ei99070: I'll be updating it to WM2005 at some point, just too busy right now; my version has to be compatible with a couple of other programs I'm writing (a today plugin called VJTodaySpacer), and then making it both WM2005 and WM2003 is a bit of a headache. I need a clear head to get around it!
Are you hiding or resizing the child?
V
vijay555: Hiding!
I tried just resizing, but rotating the screen set it to normal size again... ShowWindow API seems to do the job correctly!
I assume your app is always running on background, correct?
ei99070 - is your app memory resident or one off?
WM2003 compatibility took some work because the newbar and sip are a little interdependant. WM5 is a bit nicer for that:
v
vijay555: true!! It as very easy to find the windows!
But I can tell you now, SIP and the Soft Button bar are independ on Windows Mobile 2005 to...
My app does it's stuff and closes, but that creates a problem: when you rotate the screen it resizes the area available for the plugin's to the original size, but mantains the tray hidden!
ei99070 I'll investigate it at some point soon. That's why I asked if you're memory resident, because polling or hooking the system, or possibly patching in memory, is the only way to prevent this I think. But they're quite bad solutions for stability and resources.
v
I agree, I think that hooking the rotation event will be the better way to avoid this behavior... :?
Great stuff!!
I whas looking for this long time!!

Yeah same here. Wish I could get rid of that stupid battery icon. I want to get rid of the time on the today screen and use it for something more useful again.
Screen estate is "expensive" - the person who finds out how to get rid of it will be my hero for quite some time
I'll pitch in 5 bucks(USD PAYPAL).
I got $5.00 on it as well. I haven't upgraded to the latest rom because of this.
I am happy to join the list of wanters
I have been looking around some places and have a thought...... in the o2 Extended ROM there is a CAB file called "Signed_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB" I can't run this at the moment as I am at work and dont have a sync cable with me......
Anyone know what this CAB does? Can anyone try this before I get home?
The CAB is in the o2 zip on the FTP site, under Extended_ROMs -> o2
This is likely to be the cab that removes the battery icon from the Tray (bottom of Today Screen). This is where the battery indicator lived pre-AKU2 on many devices.
Just so people know, all the tweaks/hacks out thyere right now for this only removes the icon when in other programs, not out of the tray when at the today screen.

We need to figure this battery thing out... Is it HTC that releases the ROMS or does Qtek and Imate make their own?
Microsoft delivers the OS and APIs/SDK. More than likely, this is a change by MS. HTC adds the HTC-hardware specific drivers and basic hookups (e.g. all default button functionality, what to do when a built-in keyboard is activated, etc.). All the others do the branding, extrom composition, what's extra in the box, etc.
In the end, I guess somebody might post a quick message on one of the windows mobile MSDN blogs to see what the thought behind this change was, and whether it can be undone in any way.
My guess is that you'll have to roll back to the previous battery driver in order to get rid of it. If someone knows how to extract the driver from the first rom and put it into the second, we might get somewhere.

Hi, Im looking for a good and light application, that can switch through the running applications. I used http://vieka.com/vbar.htm but its not working correctly on WM 6.1 anymore.
I searched and found quiet a few, but none matches my need so far.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks.
You could try Dynamo 2. Needs a little fiddling to make it work with wm 6.1 but it can.
Im looking for something uunspectacular...
I tried morttasks, but it is not ok. Just a simple click and hold on the little X in the corner should bring up a menu.
I have a touch diamond, and the HTC task manager is not that bad, but it shows all opened applications only when you are on the homescreen, which is annoying.
Any other SW? Thanks
Ever tried WKTask?

You can modify it (color settings, icons + text, only icons, pc like (like in the picture))
If you DON'T want this, there are other programs, cause this is why i use WKTask
ILauncher has a Taskmanager included... other programs too.
Without searching i don't know other programs which ONLY do taskmanager on X-Tapping.
PS: You can try the Taskmanager from Hinavigator. You don't have to install the today plugin: http://www.ppclink.com/?ppclink=product&do=view&id=64

Yes it is. Quick question however, I use this along with WKTask (love the quickmenu but I also like having a "traditional" taskbar at the top as well) and now I no longer get any icon in the upper right corner when on the today screen. Before installing WK, it used to be a small battery icon up in that corner. ow, it's just and empty space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I use alttab.exe, its small, light and I've mapped that to an hardware button. It switches between open apps just like when you press alt + tab keys on your windows pc.
Install MortButtons. In it there is a tasklist that pops up and shows icons for running applications. It's also very finger friendly. Search this forum for the latest beta which works very good.

Before installing WK, it used to be a small battery icon up in that corner. ow, it's just and empty space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to access QuickMenu/Option/View, and then to mark "Show battery on taskbar"?
Yeah, that's what I had it on, but once I installed WK, it went away and now it's just an empty space. Not really a big deal since I have like 5 battery indicators on my Today screen. Just figured i'd ask if any had similiar situation.
Thanks for all your tips, I found out, that vbar - the application I used to use goes now under the name pbar (just search the forum.
Thanks again!

I use alttab.exe, its small, light and I've mapped that to an hardware button. It switches between open apps just like when you press alt + tab keys on your windows pc.

2nd, I couldn't be happier with it. I also tried dynamo3, it has many more features and shows you screenshots of open programs (like expose or vista)... but last time I tried it, it was still a bit buggy.
