Hello. Hope this helps.
I flashed my german MDA C with the imate ROM. Everything worked fine, except the connection with GPRS.
For example, when I connected to the Internet (I use the german Vodafone Provider), the connection was stable. But only for this one connection.
When I disconnected pressing the red button longer than 2 seconds, I never was able to get a new connection (Error Message, that no connection could be made by unknown causes). The only way to get out of this mess, was a Soft-Reset.
Another problem was: When receiving an MMS, there was no way to get a connection to the Internet after that (Error Message, that no connection could be made by unknown causes). Only way to get out of this, was to make another Soft-Reset.
I did the following:
Start-->Programs--> Wireless Modem-->Tools-->Options
I unchecked the "Preset GPRS Connection" (it was checked by default).
Since then.....everything works as it should
Ok, the GPRS Connection doesnt disconnect automatically after using it, but it re-connects after using the "Red-Button-Workaround".
Hope, I can help with this.
Greetings from Cologne,

thanks man i will try it i have been having problems with my gprs connection..... another thing what is "Red-Button-Workaround" ?
Hi.
The Jam, can't disconnect automatically.
With the "workaround" I meant, that you can disconnect GPRS connection by pressing the red button about two seconds.
Hope this helps.
Greetings from Cologne,
Arniebirdy
ahh thanks man... didn't know that... now i can get rid of gprs monitor...
cheers
Had the same problem, but mine mysteriously solved itself during this weekend. My wModem settings are the default.
hhmmm, yesterday...everything worked fine.
Today, I have the same error again. I post a pic of the error message. Someone any ideas ?
Greetings from Cologne,
Arniebirdy
i get the same damn message... and in addition to it... i the sginal bar goes like that ..... searching for network!!!!!!
arniebirdy:
That setting didn't help me, still getting error-message on my second connection-attempt without soft-resetting first. Using Vodafone Sweden.

The problem is not magician only, see this thread at Tekguru,
Restore default
I had the same problem, have made a hard reset and all he works well is always connected also after before the time. I have made the backup. Then I have modified the configurazini in order to try the wap and have modified the proxy after made the same error did not connect the second time. I have restored the backup and all it works. It must be something that wines modified in the registry when it modifies the logon formulations. I trying to understand what is the problem. Excused for my English.
Why start a new thread on this issue, when there's already a very active thread here, with what appears to be a solution?
The original thread (with what seems to possibly be the solution) can be found here:

Hi
Without going through every application how can I setup the connection options to only automatically connect when wifi is available or when docked. Idealy I would like to be prompted to connect via GPRS or 3g network? Any reg hacks on this one?
Regards
Eric
GPRS connection disable or prompt
hi, I'm having the same issue as above...would like to connect to GPRS manually only.
anyone !??!
me to, i am only on a limited plan for gprs/3g and the costs are quite high 2c p kb.
i use wifi at home a lot, so usually not a problem, but dodgy activesyncs to exchange server, or accidentally opening IE auto connects 3g gprs without prompting.
Any hacks, or software that anybody knows about.
I also need this, i ran my bill up without knowing/wanting to

I have changed my default IE page to "about:blank" - at least it means that IE doesn't go off trying to load a page by default that I'm most likely not interested in, but it also prevents it from connecting GPRS/3G should you start it by accident.
Cheers,
Steve.
Has anyone had any luck with this? I also am on an expensive tariff and unwanted connections prove costly. I have not yet found the answer, but will keep you all posted if I stumble across a setting/hack.
Would also like some tips on this, dont know whats dialling up 3g, but everytime i looked at my phone it was bloody connected grrrr.
Im also intressted, i need like a on/off button for the gprs. My damn egress updates my blogs/rss streams all the time. I have disable autoupdate in egress but it still wants to update sometimes :/
I've found nothing yet and have resorted to removing my GPRS settings until sorted.
I will crack open C# and attempt my first PDA utility - with the aim being to prevent GPRS/GSM from connecting unless something is manually toggled. Wish me luck
dudes, this has been posted a few times already
it's a part of the t-mob ext rom.

What does this cab file do exactly? Does it give you an option to manualy connect or does it turn GPRS off completely? Plus where can we find the option to turn it ON if we can?
One more thing please, can I install this cab file on my O2 XDA Exec without any conflicts since it was made for T-Mobile?
I am not 110% but I believe it appears in a number of carrier ext roms, and just stops GPRS from being attached all the time (like an idle disconnect perhaps?)
When you want GPRS, then you can connect by starting the application you want (ie : Internet Explorer) and GPRS kicks in.
Hope it helps.
Joe
couldnt find it in mine, using the imate jj.
will install and see what happens....
using vijay's method http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37963
you still get the msg that it is trying to connect and eventually an error msg, but better than a big phone bill
Hi guys !
I've installed the .cab on my 9000 and G icon is now disappeared
In the future will be possible to uninstall the .cab and restore the icon ?
Thanks
Hi guys,
I'm all new to your forum...
I have the o2 xdII, xdaIIs and now i'm using the xda Exec.
I have a strange problem that even o2 technical support team can't fix...
When i start internet explorer it will connect to either gprs or 3g (whatever is available). when i finish browsing the internet, i just close internet explorer and then close the connection by clicking the disconnect button. Where my problem is, is when i want to reconnect to the internet again (say 5 mins after i close the last connection), i cant get any connection whatsoever. I have a good receiption (gprs and 3g). And i have this weird message :
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
So after a lot of talking with o2, i still have this problem.
I have tried to uprgrade to the new rom, and nothing, i have change the settings of the cennection, still nothing. i even changed the handset as i and o2 thought it could have been a faulty handset, but still nothing...
The only solution at the present is to do a soft reset everytime i want to connect to the internet... Its very annoying !!!!
Would annyone have a solution ??? Please ?????
Thank you in advance for your help....
Personally; I wouldn't suggest closing the connection and you won't get charged any extra.
this is easy to fix, but you will lose some software you've got installed.
I had this problem and have worked it out to be conflicts between software that handles the phone line. I had mortring, phonealarm and photo contacts pro installed and my gprs would not reconnect after the 2nd attempt. Putting the phone into flight mode and then back into normal mode would allow gprs to reconnect but only once.
So I uninstalled the above 3 applications one by one and found the gprs would reconnect great with only one installed (any one it didn't matter)
So try removing software that handles the phone line until your gprs reconnect works.

How can you use GPRS Internet from your O2 Exec/JASJAR on Laptop/Desktop computer?
I am guessing there should be a way through the wireless modem. Any ideas guys?
Activate the wireless modem, install the device as a modem on the computer.
Dial *99# with the computer..
Hi all
I just avtivated by wireless modem through similarly named app on Exec.
Then on laptop dialed *99# and all was looking well until Win XP laptop said registering computer on the network.
Then error message on Laptop said device wasn't functioning.
Whilst it was trying though the coloured lights on the wireless modem(exec) app were flashing away like merry.
That was entertaining enough but any clues as to where I'm going wrong?
Using a bluetooth dongle with IVT soleil on laptop.
Which works for activesync and headset.
Have stopped activesync on exec in order to get this far.
Phil
You have to install USB modem drivers for your Exec on your XP desktop. I don't know if the modem will work through bluetooth. I use USBmodem drivers with my Vario and it works perfectly. I don't know if you need to use different drivers for your Exec, but I will attach the ones that work with the Vario.

Try a soft reset (that worked setting up a mate's Universal with the same error), sounds like you have the modem installed and everything else set up.
Btw when his couldn't connect with that error, it couldnt connect to the network when not functioning as a modem anyway.
thank you for the modem driver for Universal! I really looking for it
this is about the best walkthrough i have ever read. so Koksie thanks if you wrote this....
anybody got any ideas when this error comes up when i go to start "4- Then in Programs, click on "Wireless Modem". With the Connection type on USB, click on "Start". " and i click start thie error "ERROR .... COME OPEN ERROR"
any ideas what that means?!
Jay
I did not write it myself, just found it and passed it on because it worked perfectly for me. I have no idea why it gives the error you mention. I think the walk through was found on this forum, perhaps try to find the thread and ask the question there? The person who posted this originally might perhaps know the answer. good luck!
I've tried this loads of times all I get is a COM OPEN ERROR on the XDA.. it did work once briefly then wont work again..

I had the same problem. In bluetooth settings delete all the outgoings port that you created. In my case it was port 8 for gprs....Now works¡¡
well thanks for the help.. lol although that doesn't sound to promising maybe i will take it back to o2?
arhh just saw dherrero's reply i may try thatl
jay
hey hey! great thanks for that works brillantly. now i just need to test my tomtom to see if he can stil connect to my GPS device:
Update
Koksie and Kevino most helpful.
I gave up on Bluetooth and got me USB cable out.
The USB modem connects and works well now.
I am not sure the "receive all incoming beams" tick is neccessary?
For O2 customers I found this which was quite useful for the USB Modem Connections settings on the Laptop/PC.

BTW I can connect for my emails but have to setup a new Email Account in Outlook to send using the O2 smtp server (smtp.o2.co.uk).
However I still can not get Internet Explorer to be able to browse on this GPRS connection, any ideas?

Well m8...as you bring this up...
If anyone can shed some light on this it would be great.
It seems to me tat this problem is only with o2 :?
I have also tried in the passed to make phones work with laptops an tomtom go's etc for the gprs connection usage and had no joy.... at first i thought it was the phones...tested with Nokias 6310i, 6230, 6230i, SE t630, w800, w900i, etc all running the latest firmware and 02 active settings and always connection errors.
In the meantime ALL the other networks like voda, t-mobile, orange etc work like a charm on the same setups.

Please Help
I have a brand new SPV M5000 from work. Set up to get email with exchange server for emails diary etc. This works fine. In the Comms Manager wifi will not turn on, to be clear this is not about connecting to a wireless network, wifi will not ven turn on. 3G etc all fine, but wireless will not activate.
Orange seems stumped, previuosly it did work ,according to my IT manager before the sim was activated. Since then no joy. I have hard and soft reset to no avail.
Can any of you throw a light on this?
I have lookd through the other messages on this forum and cant find any mention of it
Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem on my universal. Any ideas from any one on how to fix it ?
I've been having the same problem. sent it back to O2 they fixed it twice and it is still being gay!
Please please please somebody help me!
My XDA Exec started off fine, and then over time it took more and more attempts to connect to a wifi service. I recently sent it away to have the USB port re-attached, and since then it won't connect at all.
I have upgraded the ROM and it hasn't made any difference.
Does anyone know if there is an aerial for the wifi electronics? Could it be broken? Is this more likely to be a firmware / software issue?
Any clues would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Ian
I had the same problem with my Wizard, it seemed it was a hardware problem
