VPN over ActiveSync (not WiFi, GRPS, ...). - Networking

Hi,
this would mean going over TCP, not UDP (if that's used anyway for VPN).
I might need this for UDP-apps when my PDA is plugged in (via USB, thus free ActiveSync connection, which doesn't carry UDP packets).
Anyone an idea about possible setups?

GPRS Internet connection shared with laptop

I've seen a lot of postings about how to use Wizards as dialup modems, either via Bluetooth or USB, and I presume that this allows making a dialled GPRS connection from the latop but does not allow the phone to access the internet at the same time? (Does it also block voice calls on the phone?)
I'd like to know if there is any way to use a currently active "T-Mobile Internet" unlimited GPRS connection on my device (which now stays on most of the time) to allow access to the internet from a USB-connected laptop?
Just to occasionally test the theory of course, not really allowed to use laptops with this tarif...

UDP Passthrough Activesync

MS Activesync (i'm using 4.5) does not support forwarding of UDP packets to the handset from the network. So far as I can tell it doesnt allow them to come out of the handset to the network either. When I say Network I mean IP Network, not Cellular.
Does anyone know of a way to add this feature to my setup, perhaps a UDP Proxy application that will puck up the packets on the ActiveSync Network adapter and forward them to the internet ? Or maybe something simpler like bypassing Activesync altogether ?
Hopeful,
nid
Are you trying to run any application specially using UDP's? I could access Internet once my ActiveSync is up.
Uh, yes, UDP is requred by the application I am trying to run.

Use as wifi router w/o data plan, recognize wii, use as bluetooth dongle

Hello all.
Several questions:
1. Can the ppc 6800 be used as a wifi router WITHOUT having a data plan? In other words, can the phone connect to an existing pc which is connected to the internet via cable connection (modem and or both modem/non-wireless router) and transmit the internet cable connection through the phone to another wifi enabled device (i.e. the wii or a wifi enabled laptop) without using an existing data (i.e. evdo) plan?
2. Can the ppc 6800 be used to both:
a. Transmit a bluetooth signal and wireless internet connection to the wii without having an existing data plan on the phone?
In summary, I am trying to find out a way to use the ppc 6800 to act as a bluetooth dongle and internet connection for the wii without having to purchase either a bluetooth device (i.e. usb bt drive) or wireless router.
Let me know if there are any solutions out there.
Thanks.
If you use wmwifi router you can use it as a wireless acess point if that's what you mean, but about the data plan thing- No you don't need a data plan butit will use your minutes.
the wii is not compatible with wmwifirouter, i had tried it and searched for why the wii couldnt connect but it saw my phone, it says it on the wmwifirouter site and an incompatible device.

Why does Active Sync still use data network when on wireless?

Hi - i'm logged into wireless but when you turn active sync on it still wants to use the phone network - i though the idea was wireless would save your phone data bill - is there an option to use active sync via wireless? Thanks...
then disable it. normally it doesnt use
but this is the problem - if i disable the data connection i get a message saying "stopping data connection will also turn off direct push" and my active sync stops...
what do you want AS to do? a remote exchange sync? I don't know anything about that and i'm not sure if that applies to your issue, but AFAIK AS does not support WLAN connection (at least for local host, remote exchange i don't know)
regards jan
Pushmail requires a data connection, it won't work over WiFi. Try disabling pushmail and turning the data connection off in the comm manager then go into activesync and try syncing.
Activesync had its wireless usability removed from the desktop portion of the software, the device its self is still capable and can conncet wirelessly when combined with an exchange server.
The issue was that enableing wireless active syncing created and monster of a security hole that could not easily be removed, the idea of active sync is its ease of use plug it in, it syncs, now imagin that but not having to plug it in, any wireless feed that your phone connects too could start a sync, now imagin some dodgy bloke pulling up outside your house and syncing all your data from home.
well anyway that was the idea of why it was removed, exchange added a decent level of protection against this and simply adding a PIN code to your device would stop it working but None the less, microsoft pulled the plug a long time ago before AS3 i think.

cellphone voip through bluetooth pan network connection to the internet from computer

I have an htc touch running nfsfan's 6.5 rom and recently bought a cheapo bluetooth usb dongle that uses bluesoleil.
I've configured activesync to feed the touch internet via bluetooth and can browse the web and all through that connection, but none of my sip programs can register their connection.
Upon googling it turns out activesync dosnt pass the required udp packets for voip.
The second solution is to create a bluetooth network completely bypassing activesync.
And here are my problems:
- I cannot establish a pan connection from bluesoleil as long as I do not establish a bluetooth activesync first (am able to exchange business cards though)
- If i establish activesync, then bluetooth pan, then disconnect activesync, the pan connection is still active, but I get about 75% packet loss when pinging my router from the phone and apps want to dial the #777 to get internet.
The touch not having wifi, that bluetooth pan connection seems to be my only solution to get voip working on that phone (cell provider phone data connection has very high latency and unusable for voip)
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
