i installed two media players that tcmpc (or something) and the gsplayer (the one with the tree icon). i use the remove program options to remove the two but it does not completely remove them, how do i completely remove them, help
This is because the program runs in the background although we closed it.
After a soft reset ( or interesting, but after using VjayPhoneKill app we can uninstall the programs ) you can uninstall it perfectly.
(And please don't say anybody that there is a lot of task closing application. I know. But beside using them, applications run in the background after real closing. That's why we have this **** memory leak problem)

One of the main features of PocketPlus that I use is the close button modification - so it closes programs as opposed to minimising them. However, it seems that it has stopped doing that.
I can't pinpoint anything that I've done to make this happen, I haven't installed any new software or changed any settings...
Can anyone think how I can fix this? It says it is set to 'close' rather than minimise in the options. All the ROMs and whatever on my Exec are default.
I'm using 3.04.

Should solve the problem (easiest way)
Okay, I've tried reinstalling BUT...
Before I uninstall, there is about 4MB of storage left. This doesn't increase when I uninstall, and when I reinstall it gives me the message about storage being critically low...
Also, when I look in memory in settings, it shows the storage memory as 7.4MB. However, when I go to install pocketplus it shows the memory available as 3.9MB.
Softreset before you uninstall then
It does that automatically, it says that I have to soft reset to complete the uninstallation. I have also done it manually.
I've removed something else now and in the memory settings pane and the remove programs pane it shows 8MB free, but when I go to install it it says 4.5MB free... Why could this be?
Reinstalling doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. It still isn't closing the programs.
Does anyone know of an alternate way to make the close button actually close things instead of minimising?
Got your same problem. Went even through a hard reset on my qtek 9000 and had it re-installed. Works for a couple of times than this function stops to work....Who knows why
I thus decided to go that way
-magic button (excellent freeware) it gives you many possibilities to manage apps closing or minimizing
-spb diary
-resco launcher (very essential launcher but n°1 memory saver
If resco launcher doesn't suit you keep magic button and go to illauncher
After you have played with complex and very aesthetical apps..you come back to efficiency.....
have fun

Magic button seems to be doing the trick now, thanks for the recommendation
I've installed this program on my Vario, but when uninstalling it it doesn't come off. Furthermore, my Vario isn't starting back up after it soft-resets itself to complete the uninstall. I tried just about everything, nothing will work!
Any suggestions??
I always have problems with WM5 memory management, which led me to experiment more on some free apps out there. This is a personal trick I just recently learned from all the AKU 3 versions that are coming out that I have been trying out and would like to share with everyone.
I will attach OXIOS Memory CAB file below my post, you need both Oxios Hibernate and Oxios Close Apps for this trick to work.
This is the theory for the increase of memory: basically what I wanted to happen is to only have 1 application running in the background no matter what. Thus, opening another app automatically closes the other app, even just pressing the OK button. Just like what a Palm device does with regards to application handling.
One draw back though, you are eliminating the ability of the WM5 device to run multiple applications at the same time.
OK enough of the explanations, here is what you have to do:
1st: Download the copy of OXIOS apps I provided.
2nd: Run the CAB file to install.
3rd: Go to Windows>Start Menu>Programs>Accessories.
4th: Copy the shortcuts for both Oxios Close Apps and Oxios Hibernate.
5th: Go to Windows>Start Up.
6th: Paste both Oxios Close Apps and Oxios Hibernate.
7th: Perform a soft reset.
Basically this would make WM5 behave like a palm device. You can now only open one application at one time, thus ensuring you have enough memory for your current application to run.
You don't even need to close any app anymore manually, since it is done automatically for you now.
There are some exceptions to this however and they are:
1: Contacts Application
2: MMS Application
3: Calendar Application
4: Phone Application
These 4 apps can be opened all at the same time without closing automatically, a good thing because you want them to work together when sending messages or files. Plus, you also want the phone ON at all times.
Good luck and let me know if you prefer this solution or suggestion.
hmmm...
I don't like the idea of not being in control of my device...
I've been happy doing it manually with Magic Button, and since yesterday, Wisbar Advance 2.
I think the extra tap is worth it!
that's great, maybe it's good for me, thanks for your cab file.
i tried these apps before, but not in this fashion. it never really fully recovered all the memory that it was trying to recover.
is there still a gradual memory leak, or does this manage to retain the full amount of memory after each closure.
i start with 29 - 30mb, it drops to about 18mb, so I reset it. does this stop the memory drop and reduction and totally reclaim the memory on closure of every app?

No, unfortunately, but based on using them on the latest AKU 3 ROMs, Oxios apps are getting better in recovering the lost memory.
thanks! will think about installing this. currently, im just using memmaid's reclaim ram plug in. Im not sure if it's just placebo but it works somehow..
I have a MDA, and recently tried to delete Full Screen Keyboard. After I deleted the files, I noticed that the Programs on storage memory list was blank, and I couldn't uninstall programs, or see the memory I had left. I did a full backup, Full Screen Keyboard is back, but the installed programs list isn't. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or a third party program for uninstalling programs?
Pocket Mechanic?

Do you have pocket mechanic installed?
It caused your exact problem on my device (apache)
a while back. You have to uninstall programs from the
pocket mechanic uninstall screen after it's installed.
I've had the same problem once with my Smartphone (SPV C500).
The reason for this was a program with a bad "uninstall procedure"? When I removed the program using Active Sync the list appeared again on my phone.
I am having this same issue except that it is no longer in both my ActiveSync or Uninstall List.
The program was in my uninstall list. I chose it to uninstall, it worked for a bit and the program disappeared from the list, but not the device. So I connected the phone to my computer and selected the program from ActiveSync to uninstall. Again, it worked for a bit and then showed me the list without that program but its still in my phone.
How can I get it out without a hard reset?
Thanks
I was playing with several ipod UI's for my Hermes and somehow my remove programs list is now blank. the total storage memory available at the bottom is also blank.
it seems like i didnt install anything...but all my programs that where installed before still works.
i think it happened after i uninstalled WA2 and WAD.
anyone know how i can get it back???
Hi,
try to remove the last 1 or 2 programs you've installed using activesync (add or remove software) .... your list should come back.
bye
Thanks for the help...but i am using WMDC and it gives me an error everytime it tries to sync.
sigh...i guess i'll just have to upgrade to black 3.5 with a fresh install.
Sorry to ressurect an old thread but I just had exactly the same issue on my HTC Touch. All my installed programs have vanished from the list (but still work) and ActiveSync won't connect to let me install or uninstall anything.
I have 6.97mb of storage free and 16.33mb of program storage free.
Any ideas how to sort this out without clearing everything out and starting again?
Dear All,
i'm using wm5, i noticed there is a memory leakage , i'm using batery status , every program i open memory decreases then when i close the program using resco task manager , the memory used by the program is not released.
is there any way to avoid this ???
Try using Oxios Memory to recover leaked memory.
I did but still not all the memory recovered , as example as i restart i have 21 MB free after using the device for 6-8 hours , i find the memory 17-18 MB , and i'm sure that all the programs are properly closed.
If you opened a lot of applications in those 6 to 8 hours then that is normal.
You can't just close the app and think that it will be like you have never opened it...that it will remove every bit from memory.
for example, I start with 24MB of free RAM after reset, and trough two or tree days it drops down to 19-22MB dependinh of which and how many apps I have started meanwhile.
Installed apps, even those stored on a SD card will create unneccessary files in the main memory taking some memory away. Check these locations to see if you can delete files from apps that are not needed for the app to run. (main memory) Application Data/Volatile, windows directory/app mgr./active sync (control log) several bytes can be safely deleted here. Look for programs that have been removed, but are still in the app mgr. folder. If files can't be found, use the app that newbie2 offered or this one. Works for me!
Same for me
Man i get the samething. I use the Oxias but it only frees up a couple hundred kb to maybe a few mb. Crazy that I can get it all the way down to 2-3mb of ram. I start with in the 23-26mb free range. I open the following:
Slide2Unlock by A_C
Iphone launcher by Grumps
PocketCM by Tene
I have softkey by water
and Hbutton running
I occassionally check my email and get a few text messages. Outside of that, not a lot of major memory usage.
Even with that going I start at about 21 - 23mb. How is getting down that low. And what will actually work to get it back?
CG
It could be that these programs you have installed are the cause. I think I recall seeing an issue like this related to Slide2Unlock. But the truth is, any badly/improperly written software can do this.

Does anyone know of an actual GOOD program out there that will automatically dump the RAM cache at interval or preset limits?? And do it with a noticable difference??
I have seen others using Resco, task manager and few other programs but most people report the same problem. I know M$ has set the cache up to do this on its own but it is just not as affective as I would like it to be. I know that the short answer is to give up the apps I like. But, I would like to work around that if possible.

You can clear the Opera history & cache while in Opera, clear cache and delete files while in PIE. With the attached app, which I use ALL the time, can do all this with 1 tap. It also gets rid of your most recent program thst was opened from the start menu. Lots of items can be cleaned and eliminated safely allowing more memory. Check the box by the item/s you want the app to focus on.
