I want to use the mid files from my older SonyEriccsin P910i phone, but it is not possible. Why? How can I solve this problem?
covert to wave and drop them into teh rings folder inside your windows folder in the exex.
Thanks for your answer , I will try it, but when I convert mid file to wav , the wav file will be much bigger.
It is possible when the converting is ready I drop the new files to the SD card?

Maybe a newbie wuestion but I can't seem to change the sms / email sounds other than the standard ones.
I have a nice .wav and .mid which I would like to assign to my new messages but I don't know how.
Could someone please help me out.
Thanks
just copy your wave file in the /windows directory and then select it from the phone setting menu.

Thanks for the fast reply!!
Does it only work for wav's?
Because I have a .mid that I want to have as message sound
it should also work with wma and mid
:?: Nope ... it did not worked ... for wav, it was fine. Just copy it into the /windows dir.
i did the same for mid files, in fact, i copied 1 wav and 1 mid files into the /windows dir, and i manage to see only the wav file.
initially tot it might be the file name, then i change it shorter, 8.3, watever ... just seemed to read the mid file in the drop down list during notification setting.
the mid file played well when i click on it in file explorer. so the file is not corupted.
so how? any smart advise? soft reset was carried out. no avail.
From what I can tell the SMS sounds have to go in windows/ but the ring tones have to go in windows/ring . There are plenty of programs to convert one file type to another about so if it still won't work a crafty google search should do the trick.
i saw that the file format on my jam is wav. tryed to sync a wav file but it didnt work.
what file format can i use? (midi, wav, mp3)
if i have an mp3 on the storage card, can i use them as a rington?
thank's
Erez
i know for sure .wav and .mp3 are supported. i now use a .mp3 ringtone. put the file in /windows/rings/ and you can select that file as your ringtone. wouldn't hurt to try other file types.

Just a suggestion: create a windows/rings folder tree in storage (that is: /storage/windows/rings/) and put your ringtones there: you'll save many MB of precious RAM (especially if you're going to use MP3).
bye bye,
Isidoro
thanks for that tip. works great. but now another problem arises. i just installed nice start 2.5 and i want to put the windows sounds for log on and log off. i put the mp3s in windows rings and can't select them there. tried putting them in windows and can't see them when there in there as well. so i tried them in wavs copied them over to /storage/windows/rings still no luck. now i have them in the windows folder and they show up. but theres 4 of them totalling 1.02mb. do files for these notifications have to be kept in the windows directory? if so what files are supported that are smaller then .wavs? i figured .mp3s aren't supporeted. anyway if its only wavs then what are the exact specs of the speaker for the magician so i can scale down these .wav's so they're not as big?
Ok, I did a fast search and not sure what I am missing. I have some ring tones that I want to use and converted them to .wma, but have no idea what to do with them. I dumped them in the windows folder, but that did not work. What am I missing? Chad
All you have to do is copy the (I assume MP3) to a folder under my docs called Ring Tones then they'll show up in the settings under "phone." Just select the one you want and you're good to go. Enjoy.
Well I just tried that and I still do not see them. I tried the my documents on the storage card and on the rom. Am I missing somthing? Chad
Not too hard to do. copy the file into the file "ring" this will be in the windows folder on your device. Once there you should see it in the list for your ringtones.

What I do is copy any ringtone such as MP3 or WMA into the Sounds folder inside the Application Data folder in the root and it works.
Also if you want to assign special sounds such as Alarm sounds or music you can copy WAV files into the WINDOWS folder in the root directory and they will appear when you try to assign an Alarm sound.
Another thing that might interest you guys is that you can even assign special slide out sounds with a program that I will provide to you guys, but it must be in WAV format. ( you can always just crop a song and save it as WAV. That is what I do * editing program not available here)
Hope this answered your questions

As far as I'm aware your ringtone wether mp3 or wav needs to be on the internal memory and not the storage card.
Copy ringtones to windows/rings
But these shouldn't take up much space on your phone anyhow, plus you couild always crop the length of each tune to minimize the size
create a folder on your SD card called My Documents. Your HD should find all music placed in this folder when you search for ringtones.

My apologies. Wasn't aware of this as I had tried doing this before but put all my ringtones into a folder within My Documents and phone didn't pick them up.
Great to know this, cheers bro
On my storage card my ringtones are in a My Ringtones folder inside My Documents and work fine.

Yeah I have this now, but originally I had this folder called My Rings
Didn't initially realise you had to be precise with the naming. Thought phone would have the ability to pick this up
All ok now though
Glad it worked.
Use file explorer on pda to find the tune (mp3) you want to use. Press and hold with stylus on the file (mp3), box pops up giving you option to set as ring tone. Easy peesy

I've been having some trouble setting a custom ringtone as an alarm on my X1. I have saved the file as a .wav and put it in the windows folder. It shows up in the drop down list, but when you select it, it automatically goes back to 'default'. Anybody know how to fix this?
what, anybody?
You converted it to a .wav or just saved it as a .wav ?
sounds like you might have the right extension, so it shows in the list, but if it's not a valid wave file it just goes back to default.

Drag the .wav file into this folder \my documents\my ringtones
It is not necessary to use wav files
If you have a mp3 file, just drop it into your phone

Sigh.....don't listen to this dude....if you have mp3, you can't just drop it into your phone.
You have to put it in the ring tones folder...like I said....

Yes, I forgot to say it must be in the ringtones folder
My alarm wont play MP3's.
I'm not having a problem with ringtones.
It's the alarm clock I'd like to play these sounds. In the alarm clock dropdown menu, the ringtones from the 'my ringtones' and 'sounds' folders do not show up. Previously, placing .wav files in the windows folder would allow them to appear there. And they do appear, but when they are selected, it just goes back to the 'default' sound (one short quiet beep).
The files are saved in .wav format. I've only been having this problem since updating my X1's firmware with the Sony Ericson Update Service.
Anybody know what to do?
I don't know if this works but try placing them in the windows folder, the my ringtones folder, and the my music folder.
I'm using a custom .wav file (converted the old SE Badbarber.MP3 to .wav) for the alarm and only had to drop it into the windows folder for it to show up in the list and be able to use it.
