Does any of the two have anything more to offer or is the price the only difference?
Thanks
Hardware is the same, differences are only in the ROM and maybe the case (not sure about them, google images and see if they have the same colours!)
Hi,
You I've alreayd seen the cases and I like the qtek case more, the imate case looks abit cheap imho.
Since the difference is only the rom, what are the exact differences? Do you get any extras with either? Is one faster or has better power management?
Over here the imate kjam is a bit cheaper but I was planning on getting the qtek case the case looks better.
I dont have personal experience with either ROM, i'm using the O2 UK shipped ROM installed without any of the O2 extra's. Search the forums for ROM details, there are several posts i've scanned recently about what ROM has what extras

The i-mate extended rom contents are on the ftp server here, so you could install Backgammon, or even the virus scanner from the i-mate onto the qtek (if you felt the need ). Alternatively, you could reflash one with the complete rom image from the other... Apparently, the i-mate case is made from unobtanium (or some other rare, strong and light alloy) whereas the Qtek is made of plastic (it might be aircraft grade, radiation proof and glow in the dark, but it's still plastic). My XDA is similar to the i-mate being all silver, but sitting with one of each on my desk, neither is a bad choice. I-Mate do offer much better direct end user support, whereas Qtek seem to mostly hide behind distibuters.
Just my $0.02

At least you lucky i-mate users have a customer service contact to ignore you, we poor Qtek users don't even have that (unless you're Dutch, Swedish or a couple of other nationalities). I can visit a couple of Qtek websites, but none of them accept my IMEI as valid, so I'm stuck several layers down through distributers and retailers... If it wasn't for this site, I could get very old and grey waiting for ROM updates from clubqtek.com (if there was one)
Before I hit "Submit", I did a quick Google and it seems there's now a QtekUK.com site with a forum and the promise of ROM updates. So far, it has a handful of posts, and an even smaller number of replies from Qtek people, and no ROM's, but it is a start... :|

I had a change to look at both the K-Jam and the 9100 before I bought my K-Jam.
I bought the K-Jam because the screen is much brighter than that of the 9100 with the brightness set at maximum.

Don't be sucked in by all that [email protected]! i work on aircraft and know that anything - especially aluminium cases - which are aircraft grade (normally aren't a/c grade by the way) are pointless! Aircraft grade materials are useless for 99% of aplications (strangely phones fall in the 99%) unless you expect you phone to be flying at 30,000 feet!
Give me cheap but stronger materials anyday!

qtekuk.com is just a front end website for smartdevicesdirect, so it's unclear how closely they are linked to qtek themselves.

I am about to buy the JJ.
However i'd like to know the exac differences between 'em.
cpu? performance? apps? interface?
I juz wanna know once N for all !!
10x guys !!
One has some text on the lid saying: "JasJar"
The otherone has some text saying "MDA Pro"
That's all there is!
There are differences in the shipped ROM, but this can be flashed.
THERE ARE NO HARDWARE DIFFERENCES!
Both devices are HTC Universal, branded by different companies..
On the outer side of the housing one says: i-mate,
the other one says: t-mobile.
;-)
oh, yes.. I forgot!
That's the most important difference!
don't forget the color difference 8)
O2 Exec = Black
MDA Pro = Light Silver
i-mate JasJar = Dark Silver
I see...
well then..
a huge gap indeed...
you just made me even more baffled
now that we cleared that one up.....
i gotto go find the cheapest.
any idea's? lowest so far = 1000$ Us.

woahhh! Hold up there, we're not done yet.
Biggest difference is in the support! Both are lousy in customer service relations, but i-mate do release ROM updates much more frequently than all of the others, and that in my opinion counts for alot! Whilst you can flash any of these devices with another devices ROM, you effectively invalidate any warranty for the said device, unless it's an i-mate product. As they frequently (in comparison to others ) release updates, you can take a chance on someone else's ROM (if or when they become available) or swith back to the i-mate ROM as and when you please.
Big + in my books!
Here:-
http://qtek.plots.com.tw/aboutqtek.aspx
Hello,
Could you post what ROM updates are available at that site? As my IMEI doesn't work there, i cannot log-in
Do you have an IMEI that belongs to them? Maybe post a list of whatever stuff they have there?
Or better yet PM me your IMEI
I needed an imei of qtek, too
RE
Not to disappoint you all but the site does NOT have a section for ROM updates
Keyed in my IMEI no. and was told to visit
http://www.teleservice.com/teleservice_start.php
for hardware service
Same happened to me, i was directed to teleservice.
There's another site www.qtek9000.nl with a lot of posts and one section saying QTEK 9000 ROM but problem is it is not in English, anyone knows their language, maybe they have a beta rom or something
That site is run by an enthusiast, not an official QTek site. It's a Dutch site, so the language there is Dutch. Official Dutch QTek site (and arguably the one with the best support for QTek devices, as most of the official ones have none at all... makes me almost wish I'd gotten a K-Jam instead... hello ClubIMate!) is www.qtek.nl .
Anyway, there's nothing in the that ROM area that isn't on this site - actually, this site is one of the main places looked at for news and developments

If you think Imate's support is great, think again. Their website may provide you with decent support (although it's so slow, I can travel to London on a Concorde before I download one of their RMUs), but overall Imate support leaves A LOT to be desired. I have been fortunate with my Jam despite a million falls and mishaps, but most people who have required Imate support have not been very pleased. There are large threads on HoFo (and I think here) about it.
d'oh...
Well, I'm really not expecting any of the phone providers to be particularly excellent in the support arena. So I guess that leaves Dopod - how's their support? Other than it being the Asian market %)

If they have a plain-English website, might be worth a peek... but overall, any Dopod owners with service&support experience from them?

I don't know about Dopod, but one of the reasons I have held off on the JasJar is because I intend on getting an Exec from the UK. OK, fine, the support outside the UK is sketchy, but at least IN their market, you have decent coverage. I travel frequently enough to make an exchange or repair if I have to. I suggest that if you live in Europe, you look at this option.

I sold the M600 and bought a VarioII because wanted to try the keyboard. I do quite alot of emails so the keyboard is fantastic! The phone is quicker. With Tmob data plan and 3G its great.
Downside. Quite a bit thicker than the M600. The battery life is shockingly bad in comparison to the M600. The only way i found to get at least get 2 days worth of usage is to force a GPRS connection rather than 3G. But then Ive lost the 3G advantage. Video calling for me a waste of time. WM5 on the Hermes has many more bugs than the M600. The M600 hardly ever crashed, but the Hermes does once a week. Tomtom 6 doesn't work on Hermes without freezing, but works fine on the M600. Video playback is an issue for Hermes due to the ATI video chip, no problems with the M600. I can go on and on. The bottom line is the M600 has a more stable operating system and works with more software than the Hermes. if you use the overclocker on the M600 then in my option its a better phone. Unless you need the keyboard!

But why they are offering a phone with higher street price? TIMEO DANOS ET DONA FERENTES, was my mother lesson, have you studied troy story (trojan horse comes from that story)?
May be that phone isn't so requested and why a phone with this great hardware isn't requested?
Lot of stupids... or lot of problems?
My TyTN experience: nice toy to play, hard to put your business on It!
You NEED also to know the serial number, because below HTC638xxxx you will face (odds=50-60% in a poll here) the screen alignment (SA) issue and HTC service....., just search here
The screen alignment problem can be easily fixed. The solution is somewhere in here... But it's just a matter of slinding a credit card type of plastic all around and between the screen and bezel. I fixed mine this way.
However, the TyTN and the Prophet are not too diferent in speed under normal circumstances and except when using Skype where the Prophet lacks a bit.
You can see a "real-life" speed comparisson here (it's in spanish but you will be able to make sense of it): http://www.poderpda.tv/episodio/48
In the end, I ended up liking the TyTN more than the Prophet becasue of Skype performance and the Keyboard it's just fantastic.
Cheers!

If you don't like tytn, trinity(P3600) is a good choice, it's a tytn withous keyboard.

Hi guys, new to the forums here, but very glad i did find it! Anyways here's my situation. i just recently got the wizard aka T-mobile MDA from a friend of mine. He didn't keep it in very good condition, but otherwise it works just fine. I have upgraded the phone to WM6 and love the phone! However, it bugs me that the phone looks very worn. I thought about upgrading to the Hermes and selling this phone off or just replacing the case through ebay ( now that i found the instruction manual). Anyways, i can bascially trade this phone AS-IS and 50 bucks more for pretty much a brand new hermes, or spend about that much and risk messing up the phone tryin to put on the new case. What i want to know for all those Hermes and Wizard owners is how much better is the Hermes? i see it has a few more buttons and the added scroll wheel (which i kinda like). But what about the keyboard? which do you prefer. Any help is much appreciated. THX!
had a wizard and absolutely loved it. now got a hermes and couldnt live without it. for me the hermes is far superior. never had to soft reset, easy to upgrade roms thanks to mrvanx quality how tos, quicker (better processor) etc etc...
I prefer the Hermes on so many different levels. The keyboard is a bit easier for me on the 8525 too.
If it'll cost only $50 more, it's an easy decision (it would be for me, anyhow).
soo Hermes? One question i have is with the rom on the Hermes, is it stable? i installed the crossbow 1.7 for the wizard and it seems pretty good and i saw they have an official rom they are about to cook up. Does the Hermes have anything like that?
The original WM5 Rom is fine. But, this is XDA-Developers! So the jump to WM6 is painless and easy. There are many great, cooked ROMs available too (w/ an official WM6 upgrade coming soon).

One other question, i have a car charger for the wizard, it seems that the plug is the same for the chargers, would this be the case and i can keep the car charger? or do i have buy a new one, also i have a couple of extra stylist for the wizard, would this fit into the Hermes? AH! one more thing, i would love to keep my phone protected, does anyone use a protector case and if so what kind. i want one that wouldn't be a pain with when using the outside buttons. THX
You can use the same charger, no problem. The connections a little different looking on the Hermes, but it'll fit and work normally none the less.
The stylus from the Wizard will work and fit in the Hermes too.
As far as a protector case, I'm not a fan of those at all. I use this...
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/CING8525.html
It's clear and covers the entire body and screen. It's WAY nice. Just a thought though.

Question: WHERE are you getting that $50 upgrade? If I could have an unlocked Hermes for $50 I'd be on it like my cat on a gecko (they seem to be his favorite "natural" food!)! I bet it's a new contract, right? grrr ...
Statement #1: The one real beef I have with the Wizard is that the keyboard is not "true" QWERTY, in that the key rows are not "offset" or "crosshatched" like the keys on a standard keyboard. That seemingly small difference drives me nuts and really slows my typing. Hermes, I see from pictures, has the "correct" offset so I'm betting it's easier to get used to.
Statement #2: I'm with TaurusBullba on the Invisible Shield. I have used them on PDAs and GPSr's for a couple of years now, and wouldn't go without one. It might seem steep for what appears to be a bunch of plastic strips with adhesive, but the stuff is pretty tough. Just be patient when applying the pieces and your Wizard or Hermes will come out looking as great as ever.
To tempt you more, I will pass along an email-only discount I got just recently: 20% off all smartphone shields AND 20% off all Cell Phone Shields. Just don't tell 'em where you got it!
Wow cool THX! bascially i found someone local that i could trade my phone with and would pay 50 bucks more for the hermes. Anyways i will definitely check that Invisible Sheild out, it looks Great! and THX some more for the coupon codes you guys have been great here.

That may change now that HTC has announced that they are planning to solve multimedia performance problems only in future devices and no fix is planned for the Kaiser...
I traded my TyTN II for an i-mate JASJAR, just a one-for-one swap with no cash in between. And I don't regret that for a second! I hated the TyTN II and was ready to use it as a skeet shooting target!
Then I traded the JASJAR for a JASJAM (Hermes) with a miminal amount of cash. This is something I am beginning to regret. Although the JASJAM is faster and has a slightly better camera, the lack of VGA display and bigger keyboard is starting to bug me!
so u basically swapped a kaiser for a hermes and a bit of cash, aint that like a big downgrade?...
No. What's the difference between the Hermes and the Kaiser? The Kaiser has a tilting keyboard and built-in GPS. What else do you get with the Kaiser? How about poor multimedia usability? Stuttering videos and touchscreen that needs a few extra taps to notice you. Not to mention the sluggish camera that's totally unusable indoors.
I just got the Universal today. i really do like it Ialso really did like the Kaiser mind. The only reason why i didnt use it as much was because it was locked to t-mobile and i now have a sim card for my mates work sim(free internet, free calls, free texts etc) Thats why i used the hermes and am really pleased i still got it. The hermes is by far the best pocket pc device out there. Its had more people cooking roms then the kaiser so we know how to play with it and get more out of it etc. its not bad sized(althought many people do take the mick out of me for having a brick as a phone. wait till they see the universal!) and also the hermes is just such a good alround brilliant phone. i am getting a artemis up and running soon mind so will have a good play with that and find out if i like WM devies without keyboards any good. will keep you posted!
