open , choose an better speaker, replace with it
replace with what though? The mini speaker itself is very small. A better alternative would be to get a charging cradle with audio out and connect up a pair of speakers to the cradle or get a cradle speaker from Expansys.
Get a different phone is how you do it.
Or buy a hi-fi speaker connect to your ppc....
my speaker died.. i opened it up.. removed speaker.. now looking for another to replace it. Maybe a headphone/earphone speaker might fit...
I can´t find the thread. But a long time ago, somebody posted that he had replaced it with a nokia 6100 speaker.
shine on
Is this the speaker on the back of the phone, next to the camera that people are talking about ? or the ear piece one ?
im not sure if it is meant for that particular speaker, but the nokia ngage speaker apparently has the same piece as the imate jam and is therefore interchangeable..
The mini speaker can be made louder by upgrading the rom
i also have front speaker defekt, i bought new one for nokia 6610, the same has ngage and some other
it is the same speaker as in our mda compact, it works without problem!

With the new impending crackdown on making calls on the move, I dug out the headphones that came with the XDA II and found that they just wont stay in my ear and keep dropping out.
Can any one suggest a single earpiece replacement with a answer/end button that will work on the XDA II ??
I have looked around for a single earphone and found the one that came with the sharp GX 1 works but does not have answer button,my other suggestion would be to buy a pack of earphone foamy things which will make the standard unit much better. Hope this helps.
The earphones that come with the XDA I/II are really pretty good - EXCEPT that they don't stay in your ear. I tried a few others, but couldn't find any that had volume control and answer and were stereo. One of them I tried along the way was from Jabra - which comes with different sized "ear gels" to put on the earpiece.
I took these ear gels, and put them on the XDA headphones and voila! Full featured earphones that are comfortable and stay in my ear!
You can find these gels pretty easily... Here is what they look like:

I thought the xdaII came with earphones designed for human beings? Perhaps only some of us then...... they stay in my ears..... they seem to have rubber sides which helps.
Plantronics has one of their new headfree headsets that work with the PocketPC. I forgot which model exactly, but saw it at the T-Mobile store recently. It had a litte "rubber" part that fit around your ear to help hold it in place. Try to check that out.
Why dont you try buying any pair of headphones you like, remove the in-ear headphones and attatching the ones you baught them to the mic part. I got an audio specialist to do this for me and he only charged me £5. Now I have all the features and comfortable loud headphones with bass.
Anyone who can hold a soldering iron can modify your existing headset.
You just have to unsolder the wires from the earpieces on the pcb with the mic and have the one you like soldered in place.
Or you could use a 3,5 mm female plug with a short piece of wire instead, so you can connect whatever you want as heaset.
I just got my Nextlink Bluespoon Digital which I bought from Alphanet (an ebay seller). Paid USD$289.85 (AUD$420 landed). Not such a bad price considering that expansys is selling them for AUD$650.
Initial impressions? Rather disappointing. The build quality is rather poor. I ordered two, and both of them showed mold and glue marks. My example has a hair trapped under the LED. You can see the shadow when the LED illuminates.
Outgoing sound quality is outstanding. I tested it on the way home by sticking my head out the window and into the wind. The other party could still hear me speaking. The Jabra BT200 which I borrowed for a while would drown out in white noise.
Incoming sound quality is rather average. This is because the headset is just not loud enough! Conversations are audible when there is little ambient noise but one you are sitting in a car it becomes very difficult to hear anything.
The headset is very comfortable. I have been wearing it for the past 2 hours now and it still feels OK.
yeah like jos say right over the pickup button and mic
and then a female 3.5mm minijack and then plug in ones better
headset would work just fine
it's just solvdering those wires may not be too easy for newbies
as they are somewhat thin
and if people mess up they dont have anything to fall back on
Being a cheapskate I took the spongey bits of a spare set of in ear heaphones and put them over the XDA ones - they stay in a treat now.
Please I need help, my front earpiece speaker is damaged, I need a new one or a replacement that works for the I-Mate Jam. Anybody can help me about this issue.
I did replace mine with one from a nokia 3200. Cheap to buy used if U cant find the earpice as spare part. was a great improvment from the cheap earpiece htc used in the magician. same size but much better sound and uses springs to connect to motherboard.
Best regards
Carlis.
I never use the earphones and the other week I did to listen to the radio during a blackout with the storm we had(I live in newcastle NSW). Since then the phone thinks the earphones are connected all the time but they are not. I've removed the battery and sim and can look through the hole to see about 4 contacts three just on the sides and 1 protruding about 1mm. Should there be 2 protruding ? Is one stuck and therefore throwing a contact to tell the phone to switch off its in built speaker ?? When I go to the radio now the green icon that shows you if your in speaker or earphone use is always set to earphones. When I change it the tick from tapping comes back but the phone ear speaker still does not work. I have looked for a similar problem on the forum but cannot see anything. BTW I have doublesided sticky tape on my battery now after reading a thread.
thanks in advance
are you using o2 headset or some other headset. I encountered this when i used a third party headset jack. After I USED back o2 stereo headset, it work probably
it's the O2 headset you know the one that doesn't fit in your ear. Can you tell me what you see in your 2.5mm earphone jack. Am I barking up the wrong tree thinking it's a mechanical fault with the jack ?
I had the exact same problem with my RW6828, it was repaired for the problem three times before it was replaced. I managed to get it to work for a couple of hours once by putting an alen key into the socket. Other than that, repair or replace.
if it is the o2 atom headset, that mean yr jack might have problem. Is it possible, you shake the o2 headset.
I believe this is one of the common o2 problem.
thread and solution found
ok I didn't look hard enough - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302476&highlight=jack
Hi ppl! Let's see if I can express my problem!
My wizard is having this problem:
The inside speaker doesn't work during a call, only loud speaker(hands free) works, or by handset or bluetooh speaker! Does any one have this kind of problem?
I've send this one to warranty but, i've got a stupid respond from HTC:
"....Dear Sr. You have used an illegal software that damage you HTC motherboad...". Uaaauuu I've never used any 3rd software on this one. after received this answer Yesterday I made the first update to this phone (install the XDA Mobile 6 Release 3) but the problem still there.
Does any one have some ideas?
Now a stupid question ? how many speakers does wizard have ? 2 ?
Thanks for your time.
Rui
A while ago i had a similar problem where the phone thought my wired headset was plugged in and would not send the sound to the speakers... Only the headset, so i put some music on and plugged the headset in and out pretty fast until the sound came out the speakers in the phone. I think it had something to do with the switch inside the jack port that controls where the sound goes. Anyway that fixed mine but im not sure whats happening with yours.
The wizard has 3 speakers
2 Stereo speakers, one on each side
1 Speaker for calling in between the flashing lights

Thats very true, if headset is used often or used much of the time, then the clips inside the jack port get over stretched and won't come back to it's original place after the input jack of headsets is plugged out, thus, not allowing to pass through the voice to the speakers.
Hi again! thanks for your replay!
Yes it was true about the mini jack! A good cleaning have solve 50% of the case!
The sound now cames out from the 2 stereo speakers ! But not from the speaker for calling!
I'm start to suspects from the speaker! Is it hard to dismount the wizard ???

THANK YOU!!!
Thanks guys. Had the same problem and the cleaning seems to have helped for now.
My speaker is death, so I can't make and test new roms!! Where can I buy one in romania or europe?
Couple of days ago, the speaker of my prophet stopped working and I feared that the speaker died.
Today I made a big step and disassembled the device (with some little damages) to check if it was the popular audio jack problem, I widen the metal parts of the audio jack so they contact each other, reassembled the device and yippee!! The speaker worked again.
I will never use regular headphone again. I had orderd Nokia BH-214 Bluetooth Stereo Headset. I hope it will be good.
Anyway, check these posts for online shops:

In the previous link, you will find a link to impextrom store; but the link is dead now. Just go to http://www.impextrom.com/ and search for "qtek s200" and you will find replacement speakers.
