Could someone help me out with the new ppc Opera 8.5? I downloaded the version with the hacked .dll but I can't get it to work with my Imate Jasjar.
Could someone please post a step by step, as to how you got it to work with your ppc-phone? Is it faster than the built in pie when running gprs?
Thanks for your help
1) Go to this link: http://ftp.opera.com/pub/.custom/partners/sharp/
2) Download file on your PC.
3) Install file on JasJar via an ActiveSync Partnership on your PC (I installed mine to my Storage Card).
4) Download this file on your PC:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/modified_opera.zip
5) Extract file.
6) Right click on the file "Opera.dll" and select copy (on your PC)
7) Now, right click on your ActiveSync icon in your system tray. Select "Explore".
8 ) In the explore window, double click (left) on "My Windows Based Device".
Choose one of the next two choices:
--------------------------------------------
9a) Now if you installed Opera to a Storage Card: double click (left) on "Storage Card" and then Double Click (left) on "Program Files" and finally double click (left) on "Opera". You should see four files listed:
Opera
Opera.dll
xmlparse.dll
zip.dll
Now RIGHT CLICK on the explorer window (NOT on an icon) and select "Paste". You'll get a warning asking if you want to replace the file "Opera.dll". Select "Yes".
You're finished. Now you can launch the program normally from Start->Program Files
---------------------------------------------------------------
9b) Now if you installed Opera to Main Memory: double click (left) on "Program Files" and then double click (left) on "Opera".

Thank you so much weatheryoko... do you think opera is faster than pie?
I do see the little different in speed and also realise that using opera drains the bty faster.kinda strange though.
Speed-wise they're about equivilant. I don't see any real "speed" advantage. However, it does a much better job in rendering pages.
So, you had your's installed into the sd-card and it's at the same speed as pie? Have you ever installed it to the main memory? Would that speed things up?
Not really, as the memory is flash based and slower than the high quality SDs most people tote.
I couldn't download the modifyed dll (password protected login to ftp). Could someone mail it to (finder at inbox dot ru)? please! 10x!

These instructions may come in handy if you mess up your SD card.
NOTE: I found that I didn't have the CPPOCKETPC file they reffered to and where they state there are five options I only had four.
ON POCKET PC
1. Firstly, remove CoPilot from the Pocket PC by doing the following:
- On the welcome screen, click START > SETTINGS > SYSTEM > REMOVE PROGRAMS
- Remove "POCKET SPEECH" and COPILOT POCKET PC".
- Then close the window down by hitting the "X" on the top right hand side of the screen.
- Once this is complete. Click START > PROGRAMS > FILE EXPLORER, (Directly below the heading file explorer, it should say "MY DEVICE". If not click on the triangle next to the heading name. A menu should pop up which should say "MY DEVICE" on it. Please tap on the word and it will display the files which are contained in MY DEVICE.
- Click on the windows folder and it should bring up the list of the folders inside the Windows folder. Scroll down the list and locate a file called "CPPOCKETPC? (? Is the Copilot version number). Once you have located the file, tap and hold on the file name to reveal a sub-menu which should say: CUT, COPY, RENAME, DELETE. Click on DELETE, this will remove the file from this folder. Now exit File Explorer so you are taken back to the welcome screen.
ON PC & POCKET PC
2. Launch CoPilot on your desktop and then:
- Click on the data download wizard icon on the left hand side of the screen
- A window appears saying that there is no pocket PC device connected to your PC. Please select a drive to download the information.
- Select the C drive and then click next.
- Next screen will contain 5 options. Click on the option which says "REGION".
- Tick next to UK and then click "next"
- A message should appear, click OK
- Now on the top left hand side of the screen, a small window will appear saying the size required for map. (Check that required Memory is 87.0mb). If so click "next"
- Another window will appear asking you to label the data. It should already be labeled "REGIONUK". If the is correct, click "NEXT"
- You will now return back to the option screen with 5 buttons. Now click on DOWNLOAD. Another menu will appear: ensure that RegionUK is on the right hand side box and then click DOWNLOAD
- Select the operating system you are using on your Pocket PC and ensure the Speech it set to MALE TTS, then hit OK.
- This will start creating the data required for your Pocket PC. It may take a couple of minutes to do this.
- Once this is complete, hit the finish button. This means the download is complete.
3. Now connect your Pocket PC to your Desktop PC
- Click on MY COMPUTER and click on the C drive.
- Inside this drive you should have two folders called "2577" & "CoPilot". Once you have located these folders, select them both, right click and select COPY.
- Now go back to MY COMPUTER, open MOBILE DEVICE > MY POCKET PC > STORAGE CARD.
- DELETE ALL FILES in the STORAGE CARD (Ensure that the folder is completely empty before proceeding)
- Click inside the STORAGE CARD folder.
Right click in this folder and select Paste. This will copy the information onto your Storage card.
- Once this is completed disconnect your Pocket PC, take out the storage card and reinsert it.
- This should give you the installation window. Now follow the instructions on the screen to activate Copilot.
hey meaty!
cant' i just copy the files from the colipot install SD to desktop then copy them to new storage card?
maybe im being duumb here , ,??
cheers,
lr
I've never tried but a support guy gave me the very same instructions -so I guess not if you want the map data set configured
I found the easiest way was using the desktop data wizard to create all the map and installation files on an sd card using an sd card reader (much quicker). I have the europe map version and ended up putting the whole lot (complete maps europe maps etc) on a 2gb card. It used around 900mb. The program is installed to the sd card. The desktop program takes some time to compile the complete europe map data but now it all works just fine. I have of course copied the contents of the sd card to a backup file on the pc.
It is almost certainly possible to copy the original files from the sd card supplied to another sd card and then get the desktop program to download just the map data. (I have run both CP 5 and 6 from copies).
I have re-installed both CP 5 and 6 several times to both the jasjar and the sd card - without difficulty. The instructions given by ALK seem uncessarily complicated.

Yes you can but I managed somehow to trash my files and this was the way that ALK instructed me to re-create your installation files.
It is a bit long winded but it works!
y is nothing ever blooming straightforward!!!
these gadgets are lucky we love 'em!
Hmmm . . quite a few files on the SD . . anyone know what ones I need?

Create a shortcut, you will get the picture automaticaly:
1. Use file explorer, find IGO.exe, press and hold the file until you get a popup menu, click "copy".
2. Go to Windows, Start Menu, click on an empty space, get a popup menu and click "paste shortcut".
3. At that point you will have shortcut to IGO8 in your All Programs list. You could add it to Programs thumbnails from there.
i lost you at number2
i managed to copy igo8.exe from file explorer. then u said go to the start menu and on a space click on it untill a pop up appears and past it. i found the space in start menu but when i click and hold on to it nothing appears. i cant paste it. help me. please show me picz if you can
thanx
its all sorted now.
i am trying to achieve the same goal - and i also have the problem that i can't paste a shortcut in my programs or on the startmenu, can someone please explain it in more detail? thx
Cant see why some of you are having problems as i just done the simple thing of pressing one of the add tabs in programs and then selecting it from the menu the creating the shortcut??? the only thing I can gather is that you guys did not use the instal cab file hence dont have both igo8 and igo8 uninstall files (shortcuts) in your native programs folder??
i want to have a shortcut to a program that is not already registered as one but is only available as runnable exe file on my storage card. The post from michael_r seemed to be a solution for this problem, however, i don't manage to follow his step 2.

Use file manager program. Change directory to device/windows/start menu. Find some empty space on the bottom half of the screen below the list of files already in the directory. Press and hold for a couple of seconds. A popup menu will appear and one of the choices will be "paste shortcut". Voila.
ahhh! thanks, now i understood it!
Hi, I have an 838pro with wm6 running on it. I have a lot of programs on the memory card that dont appear in the 'programs' bit of my pda. I was wondering if thats standard, and if so: can i change that?
Also is their any hack / program that will enable me to use the front (video calling) camera as just a usual camera?
Thanks alot, have a great day.
First of all you are posting at the wrong thread. You have a Dopod 838 pro (Hermes) & you are posting at Wizard forums.
For the programs at your storage card you find with your file browser the executable that you want to ''go'' to your programs folder, press copy & then go to My Device - Windows - Start Menu - Programs & then select paste as sortcut. You must do that to every program that you want.
For your front camera I don't know because my Wizard don't have one .-
copying the exe is a bad idea
if the exe depend on dlls or other files located in the same
dir it will not work as exe are usually much bigger then shortcuts
you make shortcuts to the program using
total commander
and if you installed the programs on the sd card before you
changed rom or changed device or something like that
they will never auto showup
much like if you installed programs on an external harddisk for your
computer and connected it to another computer new or a friends pc
they would also not show up
apart from that if they depend on settings added to the reg of the pda or computer
for that matter and you changed pda/rom or computer
you will have to reinstall them
but then not all programs add shortcuts to programs depend on how
the cab file makers made the install

Hi,
My stock ROM doesn't come with QuickGPS.
I have downloaded this one at this page along with this file but nothing works.
I have followed these instructions :
I just downloaded the QuickGPS app and also the files form RapidShare and got everything to work on my Mogul within two minutes. In my office (a steel building) I am seeing 5 satellites and using 3 at the moment. Gmaps found the satellites and locked my position in within 5-6 seconds... wicked fast!
Now, how you too can do this:
1. Download both files to your computer, then extract them.
2. Create a new folder called HTC QuickGPS and put all three of the extracted files (HTC_QuickGPS.cab, QuickGPS.exe, QuickGPS.reg) in the new folder .
3. Sync your Mogul and copy the HTC QuickGPS folder to your storage card.
4. Open a file explorer on your Mogul, other than the stock one in WM6. I personally use Resco File Explorer 2007 because it allows you to overwrite files, has a registry and FTP plugin, etc. Whtever you use, it must allow you to overwrite files.
5. Navigate to your storage card and then to the HTC QuickGPS folder you just copied there from your PC.
6. Install QuickGPS by clicking on the HTC_QuickGPS.cab file.
7. Click on the QuickGPS.reg file and you will be prompted wether or not you want to import these registry settings. Click Yes.
8. Copy the QuickGPS.exe file to the \Windows directory in main memory.
9. Open PIE, Opera or another app on your Mogul that opens an Internet connection (I did not have to do this for it to work, I presume that is because I use Activesync for push from my Exchange server).
10. Open QuickGPS and click the Download button.
11. Tap the X to minimize QuickGPS (you may be able to close it completely, I have not tested that yet).
12. Open your GPS app and be amazed at how fast you get lock, no matter whether you are inside or outdoors.

When I start it, it tells me that the application has not been signed and it doesn't want to start at all.
I have, of course, installed the sdkcerts.cab.
Does anyone have a cab that can be used on TP2 ?
Thanks
OK, found out finally how to make it work :
1) I've installed this cab to main memory
2) I've copied QuickGPS.exe.0409.mui to QuickGPS.exe.040C.mui in \Windows directory
And now, it works
It seems that it was because of my French ROM version.
Just wanted to let you know in case it helps someone else

What are you using to copy and paste??
You should use file explorer or one of the 3rd party file tools to copy and "Paste Shortcut"
You browse your device to the program directory and copy and the browse to /windows/Start Menu/Programs and either past it there or into the folder of your choice under that ...
You can also do a cut and paste if you just want to move an existing shortcut ..
and just to be sure , we are talking about the "start menu" what you get when you hit the windows key?
Hi,when i hit the window key,i get a list of all the program installed such market place, you tube,email,messenger...
I would like to have igo and solitaire there as well.
on my pc i can't see the folder windows for the htc,so i directly copy and paste from the phone and it doesn't work.

You have to do it ON the phone, and paste shortcut not just paste ...
also if you cannot see the windows folder on your pc, you need to select activesync as your connection type, your phone will show up in your Computer, if your phone is not asking you what type of connection when you plug it in you go to
Settings>connections>USB to PC, and check the bottom box that says "Ask me ......"
It is no different than creating shortcuts on your pc, but it has to be done ON the phone with file explorer or the like ....
I do it alot so I know these steps do work ...

as said above, you should be doing this on the phone, not the pc.
start - file manager - menu - show all files - browse to windows - find solitaire.exe - press and hold - choose 'copy' - scroll back up and click the folder start menu - press and hold blank area of screen - choose 'paste shortcut'
press home hard key, find a blank quicklink, press it, now you should see your shortcut available.
As for why you cant see your windows folder on the PC, , , open up file manager on the PC, browse to your phone - click tools - folder options - change to 'view' tab - scroll down the list and TICK 'show hidden files and folders' and UNTICK 'hide protected operating system files'
