Best video playback sokution ? (quality, filesize, cpu cons.) - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hello,
I'm a newbie on this forum cos I just got my M500.
I'm interested in playing videos on it.
I've heard about a few solutions to do this:
- DIVX (pocketdivxencoder/lathe & TCPMP),
- MPEG (TMPGENC & pocketTV),
- WMV (windows media encoder & windows media player),
- some interesting to add ?
Do u have some resources to share about tests/benchmarks/reviews/materials on this topic ?
About the power consumption, quality, filesize, etc...
Or even personal feedback from ur own experiments or use.
Which one do u prefer and why ?
Thanx,
Ouais

Best DVD Convertor

I`ve recently upgraded from a Sony Ericsson P910i to an O2 XDA Exec.
What I`m after is help with converting my DVD\Divx movies into something that can be played on the Exec.
I`ve spotted a few programs on www.handango.co.uk and www.expansys.com.
But am confussed...Which is best?
And what settings to use in terms of resolution, frame rate, etc.
Have a read of this link, you dont need to buy any software and the results are excellent

I would suggest MacTheRipper and ffmpegX, both of which are excellent.
Best Player
Many thanks.
I love the guide...Very easy to follow.
A couple of more questions...
Whats the best video player for the Exec?
If Windows Media Player is best then how can I get this to play Dixv\Xvid files?
I think this is the best one to date.
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
its very good
So does this mean that you dudes don`t recommend getting the off-the-shelf one-click dvd convertors?
are you chaps finding that the video isnt completely smooth using tcpmp?
plug the JJ into the mains, you'll see an improvement in video playback over a certain resolution, smaller vids play fine anyway
BEST DVD - PPC Program
I bought Pocket DVD studio after trying it out - it was quite cheap., and in my opinion works great...
Thsi encodes them to WMV files (Windows Meida Version 9) - which media player can play. YES I KNOw - there are better players ot there...
http://www.pqdvd.com/watch_dvd_on_pocket_pc.html
I also bought DVD-to-PocketPC - THIS IS CRAP. It crops the videos to 4:3 aspect on some of the DVDs that I wanted to convert.
Their support was CRAP - yes they emailed me back and told me to read the help !!!!! - which is what I had done - and told them in the email that I had... a complete waste of money[/url]

Multimedia (software and settings) @ Wizard

Hi All
Hope you can help me - few quick questions about music & video on Wizard:
- what software can you recommend to listen to the music?
Please add info about price, version and supported formats of the software.
- what software can you recommend to watch the movies / clips?
As above...
- what is recommended and best format to store and to listen the music on Wizard? (file format, sample rate etc)
- what is recommended and best format to store and to watch the video / clips in full screen mode? (file format, resolution etc)
- what PC (workstation) software do you use to convert audio / video to the desirable formats?
- any advice about: how to effectively organise and store MM files or any feedback about best software to manage and format the memory card?
I know I can find almost all of the answers on the forum but they are in separate topics and your opinions are hard to compare, analyse and organise...
I think it could be interesting not only for me.
Thanks in advance
The best software for viewing video is TCPMP.
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
By the way - it is free.
I agree, TCMP is a safe bet, it can play about anything and it's free. As for encoding, I guess PocketDivXEncoder (http://divx.ppccool.com) is as good as it gets (also free...) But you can also use VirtualDub or windows media encoder. The good thing about PocketDivXEncoder is that it's very user friendly and the output is really optimized for the ppc
Thanks!
Thanks Guys!
TCPMP (with few extra codecs) is really great!
I can say exactly the same about PocketDivXEncoder - really handy and user friendly, re/scalling - cutting only choosen area from the source - recoding is working perfect! You'd understand my enthusiasm if I tell you that I used to use few command-line tools for WinXP/Linux... It was a little bit faster but simply nightmare
Any other comment or advice?
Is anybody there?
Cheers

A few questions about multimedia stuff on the 8525 (PPC Windows Mobile 2005)

Hi guys, first post but been a lurker on this wonderful site
What I want to know is what is the maximum bitrate for the MPEG1 codec and WMV (or ASF) ? Prefferably WMv bitrate. Because anything over 1,000 just gives me a slideshow.
Also I've been trying to find the "Voxware Metasound" codec because some WMV files I have use this sound codec, and I want to find a way to play these files because the video plays but not the audio...in the properties under Windows Media Player 10, ironically the audio codec shows up as Voxware Metasound.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks!!!

look up "PocketDivXEncoder_0.3.51_RC11.exe" (9,633,280 bytes)
really easy to use.

it basicly re encodes the media to a lower grade while still retaining usable quality. im quite pleased with it. Usually before a long trip, I re-encode 2 to 3 gb of anime for the road. ^_^
****edit*****
looks like there is an updated version: "PocketDivXEncoder_0.3.60.exe"

Encoding Videos

I've found several threads discussing this topic, but would appreciate it if someone enlightens me on the following (possibly also others that are interested in Video encoding for this awesome device):
1. What are the native decoding capabilities offered by SE's player? Are they accelerated?
2. From experience, what's a suggested encoding (Video format - MP4? Audio - ACC? bitrate?)
Thanks!

H.264, MPEG-4, WMA (only playable from the Windows Media player)
would be interested on answer to #2 too, I would think it's XVid and ACC but I'm quite new in this area.
When you say playable from Windows Media Player, do you mean through SE's player (which uses Windows Media Player) or directly through Media Player?

Video Playback on Iolite/XDA Orbit 2

hi folks.. i have an O2 XDA Orbit 2, and the video playback sucks. I know about the HTC video driver "issue", and i've tried numerous players nd formats, but still get lag or synch problems with playback. At the moment i use windows media and divx player, but i wondered if any of you clever people had discovered the best conversion settings? I use pocket dvd studi /pqdvd to convert divx movies for my pda, with limited success.
Any ideas, or o i just accept my fone aint powerful enough to play video and buy something else?
cheers
Dave
try coreplayer with qtv enabled. This has the best playback. Oh and it also depends on the video settings of the ROM.
You could also search for gfx boost in these forums, that might help.
