Help on Keyboard backlight on/off - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Another body here notice that when you check the box to turn on backlight sensor of the keyboard, actually it disable the function. However, when you uncheck the box saying turn on backlight sensor of the keyboard, this function works whenever you touch a key in a dark area.
Just want to know whether there is something wrong with my machine or a bug in WM5, or mechanical problem when the machine was manufacture.

My backlight's always on with the checkbox...
Otherwise the light sensor kicks in to detect background light levels I think.

Thank you for your reply. My problem has been solved.

Registry fix for Universal keyboard backlight duration?

Does anybody know of a way of extending the Universal's keyboard backlight duration longer than the highest option of 10 secs? My eyes are hurting trying to see the keyboard at night.
Don't want it a lot. Maybe 20 or 30 seconds? Perhaps this is a registry setting?
TIA
Dont even need to change a registry setting mate
Go to Start > Settings > Buttons
Then click on the Backlight tab, it brings up the options here to either have the light sensor enabled or disabled, and also how long you want your keyboard backlight on for
Sorry
read ur post wrong
Only realised myself the highest option is 10 secs!
Doh!
Yes, there is a registry setting...
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout
Change it from 10 to whatever you want. I originally set it to 60, but found that was way too long. I've got it set at 30 right now and that seems to be working well for me.
You need to soft reset after making the change before it will go into effect. Remember to turn the device off before you soft reset to make sure the cache is flushed and your change is saved.
HTH,
Brett
What about a way to change the sensitivity of the keyboard light sensor? We all I think find it not sensitive enough, and when it's too dark to see the keys, it still doesn't come on.

In what way doesn't it work? Are the keyboard lights always on or always off? At night, in the dark, do the keyboard lights come on when you press a key? Have you got the ambient light sensor enabled in the Control Panel?
I thought my light sensor wasn't working either when I first got it, not realising that you had to tap a key before it would light up.
I was also one of those that didn't know where the stylus from the box went (it was the spare)

Thanks for your reply, I have since hard reset and gone for corporate mode, and it has started working originaly in a pitch black room no matter what key I pressed, it refused to light up.

Keyboard backlight sensor - buggy?

Hi Guys,
I have been playing with a Hermes for a day now in order to decide on using it or the Wizard. I am aware of the alignment and stylus grip issue, but is the keyboard backlight sensor iffy?
Until I turned off the sensor, I found that the keyboard backlight wouldn't always turn on at all, even with the phone in a completely dark room.
Apart from that, seems a nice phone (other historic issues nothwithstanding) and certainly faster and easier to use than the Wizard.
For info, my serial number starts HT640, which is much later than the others on the wiki (I have added it to the list) so maybe it's 'new an improved'?? We can but hope.
even in a dark room and you pull the keyboard out you still need to press a key on the keyboard before the backlight comes on...

Yep, I know that - it doesn't work.
lighting issues
I've taken to holding my thumb completely over the sensor for a second or 2 and beginning to type, this usually activates it when it will not automatically light the pad (even in virtual darkness). Mine does seem a but sporadic, sometimes it works automatically, other times not.
Why not just disable the light sensor?
Settings > Personal > Buttons > Backlight

umm..if you have to disable features, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having them?
I don't really consider the light sensor a feature, more an option. I think the blue backlight is cool, so like to keep it on all the time when I'm using the keyboard, daylight or no.
However, for the purposes of this thread, removing the potentially buggy sensor from the equation will help narrow down any problems, is it the lights, the phone, or the sensor that causes erratic behaviour.
Works fine for me though.

Keyboard Backlight Problem

Hello
I have a problem with my 8525 hardware keyboard.
I have the backlight auto sensor enabled and the light doesnt turn on when i slide my phone open.
But... when its on the charger it works
Whats the problem??
Im using joshes m2d light 3g rom
Thanks in advance!
Does it turn on after you start typing or does it stay dark?
it does turn on after i start typing,
but i would like to get the sensor to start working
so it will turn on when i slide the phone open
Backlight issue
I've discovered from just using my 8525 that the backlight to the keyboard goes on when I first press a key on the keyboard but only if the light in the room is very low. Sometimes it seems like the light level in the room is low enough but the backlight still doesn't go on. Too bad there isn't a low-light level adjustment for the backlight feature.
Just so folk know - it is possible to set it up so when you open the keyboard it lights up regardless of the light level and key presses. Right now I can't remember how!! but I set mine up that way ages ago. Does use more battery power however so it is not necessarily a good thing - but looks pretty.

Proximity sensor - doesn't seem to be working

I there any settings or something to adjust proximity sensor? I was trying to turn off screen covering sensor with thumb, but.. no effect.
Does it need any setting or my phone is faulty?
I noticed the same thing on my phone today.
The proximity sensor doesn't work if you've switched off the Automatically adjust backlight option in Settings>Sound & Display>Backlight. There doesn't seem to be any way around this as the proximity sensor doesn't have its own option.
Are you in a call? You need to be calling/receiving a call for it to work.
I agree, I think you need to be in a call for the proximity sensor to work properly.
For me it works fine. And i don´t hade automatic backlight on.

That's interesting because I can toggle my proximity sensor (whilst in a call) by toggling the automatic backlight. That option must be linked to something else as well.
Screen goes black
I do have the same behavior, when I make a call the phone's screen goes black automatically so if I need to press any key have to press send to get my screen back, then use the keypad, nonsense, is anyone having the same issue ?
for me, the proximity sensor doesn't work at all. I have the automatic backlight setting and yet it still doesn't work. any idea why?
SP300
I just found the solution, I have got the screen protector on "The Original HTC SP300" and is causing the screen to go blank when you do a phone call, If a remove it a little bit from the top left corner and make a call works as spec.

Proximity problem

Hello,
I have bought myself a diamond touch 2, and i directly flashed it to Dutty's R6 rom because i like it much better and i made up my mind about it even before i bought it.
Now i seem to have a problem, and i don't know what would be the problem; either the device or the rom?
Proximity doesn't work; setting automatic backlight dimms the screen to a low-light level. Holding a flashlight above it doesn't make any difference.
Also, when making a call, the display keeps being illuminated the whole time, no matter if i hold it to my ear or not.
Does someone recognize this problem?

Settings\System\Power\Backlight\ Turn off Auto adjust.
If i turn off auto adjust i can indeed set full brightness, but that's not the point. I want the auto-dimming and proximity sensor to work, so when i hold the piece next to my ear it locks and turns off the screen...
If I turn on auto-adjust, it doesn't respond on any lightchange or action; it just dimms the screen to about 40% and keeps it there.. either a bug or a hardware fault with my unit?
Not sure that it ever worked perfect out of the box.
Have you tried tweaking the settings with TD2 Tools?
How do you mean tools? As far as i know i can only find one box to turn auto adjust on.. you have the same configuration, does it work for you?
EDIT: I installed the app "LumosWizard". Now the phone's backlight adjusts depending on the light the sensor receives. The sensor works well as the values go up when putting a flashlight on it.
However, i wonder why this doesn't work with just auto-adjust on, that's what the HTC Auto-Backlight should do right? Also, with this app, the backlight doesn't go out when no light is reveived (auto-lock when putting into pants, or turned off backlight when calling...) ?
This is what i'm looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xakUmz1zwc
=> i don't think this is achieved by an additional application, but is just standard HTC service doing this because of putting on the auto-adjust...
There is NO proximity sensor on Touch DIAMOND II. Only light sensor. Use Touch_InCall_Screen_Tweak instead. This program use G-sensor and block the screen when your phone is in vertical position.

Thanks, installed and works good!
Still wondering though why i need a 3rd app like LumosWizard to make the lightsensor work, as htc's autoadjust apparently doesn't
I did find this .cab called Glight and it works great on my TD2
