delete pics? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

does anyone know how to remove the crappy default pics that are in the my pictures folder?
cheers

Hold the stylus on the picture until the circle completes and then click delete. It may warn that its a system file but you are okay to delete it.
Pretty sure thats how I did it.

Looking for a cab for ...

Before the bashing starts, I have used the search function, always do, but unless the title is done proper its very difficult to find what you are looking for.
Now to what I am looking for, if it exists.
As much as many of us love the animation on the HD2, its laggy and battery hog.
Has any one made a cab or can they make one that simple disables the animation part of the home screen, I know its clowdy out side i dont need to spend 20 seconds watching the clowds roll over my screen before the button I pressed actually works.
Hope this make sense, I want the weather to still show and so forth just get rid of the floating clouds or the windsheild whiper and so forth.. it will increase speed and increase battery.
Thank you in advance
Co0kies Home Tab adds a button to turn off the weather animations. Just add a quick link and it is in that first list. Not sure about a stand alone button cab.
I haven't been on a stock rom for some time but can't you just switch the wallpaper to an animated (nonweather) one? This will keep the clouds from popping up. Under settings, personalize...
in a registry editor browse to
HKCU/software/HTC/manila
Find the reg entry Home.WallpaperMode
set it to
0 for animated weather
1 for animated wallpaper
2 for plain (no weather)

k i have asked for this before, how do i access these reg files and in what program do I edit them? do you edit on the phone? or on pc then transfer it back in?
I want the weather to still appear just get rid of the animation part.
To the person up top who said to use settings, the animated wall paper still uses resources. I want to cut down on that.
and I dont want to add a whole program and change around the home page.. just a simple add on to disable or enable weather animation thats all.
Although the registry is technically a bunch of files, you won't see them as files. Think of it simply as 'the registry', not registry files.
For the easiest way to edit, download ceregistry editor. It runs on the pc, connects to your phone and you edit as you see fit.
For editing on the phone, I use resco, but its not free. Total commander is free and will do it, there are several others too.
ceregistry editor on the pc is the easiest tho.

Great info.. can you provide more step by step directions on how to use ceregistry? for first time so I dont mess it up. Im new but not that new, ive messed with reg files on the pc, its the saving transfering prat that messes me up with phone and you say connect phone, but once connected, how do move the reg file from phone to pc if i dont know were it is on phone to move it? see what I mean?
you dont move it, as i said its not files yuou can see, its a live set of data. You access it in the same way you might, for instance, access a database of names and addresses. You look at / edit the data, not move the files about.
download and install ceregistry editor
connect your phone
open cereg editor
click the very left hand button on teh toolbar (or click connection - connect , , or press f1.)
you see a tree view down the left, that is your main keys.
you are looking for HKCU/software/htc/manila (HKCU is short for HKey current user) so browse through it like you would a list of folders on the pc, till you find HKCU/software/htc/manila
in the list on the right, find home.wallpapermode and double click it to edit, , change the 0 to a 2, click ok, thats it, restart your phone, job done.
(if you are on a stock rom click tools - unlock registry if you get 'cannot edit registry' error)

give it a try, its basic stuff, no need to be fearful.
re: static weather, not that I know of. maybe theres an app that changes wallpaper in response to weather, but nothing I've heard of.

well you'll still see the little weather indicator right under the clock...you just won't see the full-screen effects like the big clouds, sunburst, raindrops, etc.

can someone add this to the sticky ???!!! very useful info !!!!

can some directory be fobidden to show in the picture galery

Hi,
since i updated my DHD with the OTA update, i can see ALL pictures that are in the phone's memory in the picture galery app..
is there a way to told the picture galery to ignore some folders..
MOD edit: Moved to General
Cheers,
M_T_M
Yes. Add empty file called
.nomedia
In the folder
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
or when you load up gallery, click menu and show/hide folders then untick what folders you dont want to show
the main idea is to prevent friends/child or whatever to see pics that are not for them (like a sexy girlfriend for example)
the hide menu in galery is too easy ...
there is no password or something like that, so if you share your phone for 1 min to someone, he can found the hidden albums in 10 secs ....
I'll try the nomedia hopping that it will do the work...
One last question: how to remove the thumbnails without deleting the content ?
the .nomedia trick worked ...
but i needed to put this file on the parent directory, not the directory containing the pictures

hmm when i start gallery and klick on menu nothing happens, no menu is comming up. i wanna exclude some folders. how can i change that, is there any other way?
is the menu not coming up because its still loading/refreshing?
Update: wow its tricky to get this menu opened up...
i tried to put the .nomedia file in the parent folder, but it doesnt work....
i also cleared the cache of gallery, and after startup the same again.
i would like to uncheck some "system - pictures" wich i dont need in gallery
Question:
is there a programme, which actually shows the folder structure for pictures.
like my pictures -> test -> test1
-> test2
because gallery shows only
my pictures
test
test1
test2
I installed and application called hide it pro today (free) from market, it lets you hide anything with a password. Installs as 'audio manager' and there is a hidden button in that to get to the login screen. Pretty nice!

When I load gallery, if I hit menu nothing happen.
Then I select 'All photos' then hit menu and only 3 buttons appears: 'slide show', 'Define as', 'Select reader'.
So nothing about 'show/hide folders'. Where do you find that ??
Thanks
Other way to hide folder from gallery is to name it ".anyfoldername"
The dot in the beginning is the key. My windows computer would not let me create such folder, so I made one in my phone and then moved files to it from a computer.
By the way, in Gallery all photos are displayed 'flat' whatever the folder hierachy is.
In other word, I cannot browse photos by folder they belong to.
It was possible in my previous Magic with many different ROMs (stock 1.6, Cyanogen,...).
This is quite anoying because I have +400 photos stored in +10 folders.
Scroll down and there you should be able to see the folders...

I had to delete application data through Application settings for it to rescan.
It found my folders

Yeah, this sucks, on winmo htc sense this was possible... unfortunately HTC Sense for android in some aspects has taken a step back...

How to show pics of internal memory in galerie?

Good morning,
already searched the forums and with google, but can't find any solution for it.
I use lauchner pro with mdjs 2.6 and changed some shortcuts with some pics on my storage card shown in the galerie.
Now everytime i connect my sd card with my pc some shortcuts getting back their default icon.
I wanted to try preventing that by using pics located at the internal memory, but i cant find a solution to show pics located there to show in my galerie.
Can't remember, that I choosed a default app for choosing pics for the shortcuts...correct me if i'm wrong and sy me how to reset it.
regards jan
Say what that don't even make sense I read your post 3 times, I didn't understand a thing from your post. Now lets narrow this down as I have no idea what you saying. So the pix is located in nand? And you want to change the thumbnail photo from cache?
Ok, 2nd try:
With launcher pro u are able to change the picture of the shortcuts on your homescreen. The pictures are located on my sd card.
So everytime when I connect my SD Card with my PC my phone isn't able to access my SD-Card anymore...the result i my case:
The shortcuts with my custom pictures are setted to their default picture.
To prevent that I thought that I could place my folder with the pictures on my Nand...but this folder isn't shown in the gallery..seems like the gallery browes only the sd card and not the nand.
The other solution would be to change the default app to choose the picture...at the beginning I set it do "gallery"..other options were "Es-File Explorer" and "Root Explorer"....but now I can't find, where to change that default app....tried to reset the defaults for gallery under applications...but its grayed out.
Thank you now that make sense. I remember using Launcher Pro Plus few weeks ago what you do is first you change the shortcut then you change the image of the icon. IMHO after 3-4days of LPP I had to uninstall it didn't like it much just made it worse but use it if you like alot of folks do.
I think u mean the dock icons...I mean shortcuts: Longpress on homescreen>Shortcuts>Application>Edit Shortcut(Touch icon to change it)
By the way this didn't answer my question in any way.
