I'm using the Mugen 1550mah battery on my O2 mini. So far, I can get close to 5.5-6 hours of continuous play of divx videos (encoded to full 320*240 on high settings). I even have bluetooth on for the duration of play.
I have 2 battery indicator plugins running on the today screen as well.
Haven't tested with wi-fi streaming but playtime should be less as the wi-fi should chew up battery faster.
Still running since 9:30pm till now 3:05am battery at 17%
Been playing continuous divx videos off the SD card for more than 5.5 hours now...with the following config
1) Backlight at 100%
2) 2 Battery indicators running on today plugin (I read somewhere that
battery indicators do shorten your battery usage time)
3) Bluetooth On
4) 6 today plugins running
Battery usage after 5.5 hours is down to 17% and I think could go over 6 hours of usage. Will see if the SD card stops working once battery drops to below 10%
6 hours of continuous play off SD Card
Once battery indicator drops below 10%, playing video off the SD Card stops functioning which isn't a bad thing at all.
If you have another video to play in your RAM or ROM, I think you will have an additional 10-20 minutes before the device run out of juice or refuses to play.
where did you get that battery? how does that compare to the standard factory delivered battery?
I got one when visiting a computer swap meet (like a computer fair) in Melbourne. I've never tested the standard 1200mah battery as I've been using the 1550mah. From what I read from reviews, the standard battery should last up to 4 hours continuous use with full backlighting, and bluetooth on while playing mp3s.
It comes in the 1580 size, which fits in the standard case, and a 2000 size, which includes a new back because it is bulkier.

Hey, is the Nokia 3510 battery compatible?
Here is a link for an ebayer who sells them 7$!!! If it s the same as the link above, it should be a great deal! Anyone know?

Does look like a battery suitable for Magician but I think the size may be wrong. Well, how about if you buy one and try it out then let us know
I think I m too scary to burn out my magician...

Is the advertised battery life correct ... because i cant seem to get anywhere close to the standby stated hours. Is standby mode equal to shutting off your magician [ie. red button on right side]?
Anyways, with the screen on, but the backlight off, i can only get roughly 5-6 according to my battery indicator [battery pack pro]. Its even less if i use the pocket pc to play music
Just wondering if this is the norm, or should I try to get a new battery? Any tips to conserve precious battery life ... aside from dimming backlights?[/quote]
standy times are always absolute BS, no matter what phone they're plastered to
mine gets about 2 days use with few calls, about an hr of mp3s and perhaps an episode of the chaser's war on everything.

damn, thats awesome.
(1) You just using the main battery? or do you also use the backup internal battery as well?
(2) How frequently are you charging? I mean, do you wait till you battery is low after 2 days to charge? or are you charging it every so often during those 2 days of use?
(3) What kind of battery indicator software or program are you using [if not the one already installed in settings/system/battery]?
(4) Do you leave your screen off or on when you arent using it?
...mine: 9 hrs. wmplayer playing with screen off and 1½ hrs internet browsing; standby? why should i?
Now i bought a 2400 mAh battery instead off 1200 and indeed it's doubled now...
(1) which backup internal battery?
(2) i'm charching as soon as it's below 10%
(3) i use batterymemstatus including overclock
(4) i prefer shutting off the screen especially to prevent touching any button by accident...

1: Just the main battery, the standard 1200mAH that comes with the Mini. btw you can't actually 'use' the internal backup battery - thats just there to prevent the data in your main memory from being wiped out if your main battery goes dry!
2: I usually charge when the battery drops below 20% (ie. the first 'low battery' warning) as if it drops below 10% then certain functions are disabled (accessing your SD card for example )
3: Resco Today Plugin, comes bundled with Resco Explorer. It uses the built-in battery monitor anyway, like most today screen battery monitor plugins.
4: Off. Backlight switches off after 30s of inactivity, screen off after 3 minutes, but I usually press the power button before I slip it back into my pocket.
I use PocketMusic for mp3s, which switches the screen off automatically after 30s (but still keeps playing!), and TCPMP for video - my videos are all encoded in XviD, which requires significantly less processing power than WMV (in TCPMP anyway) while keeping a good compression ratio, meaning less battery drain.
By the way! Make sure that in Settings > Connections > Beam that your PPC isn't set to recieve incoming beams... that can have a noticeable effect on battery life.
This weekend, when my battery got below the 25% mark after a long time of keeping it always between 40 and 100%, I noticed that my device suddenly went black while playing Sudoku.
After 1 minute I could switch it back on, presenting the boot screen. No data was lost. However, as soon as it gets to log on to the cell network, it would shut off again. I had to charge it to at least 30% to be able to get a cell connection again.
Would this be a sign of a dying battery?
Unfortunately yes, it's the start of the death spiral. :?
Mine was worst; my Mini would shut off suddenly at around the 40% level. Upon closer examination of the battery it appears a little bloated in the centre, so I guess all that accumulated heat from charging did kill my battery eventually.
I changed a new battery a few months back and could now go as low as 3% before the device shuts off.

Hey Krinkiespijer,
Where did you get hold of the 2400 mAh battery? Are they expensive?
Cheers,
James
I would bet ebay. ebay.com.au used to be swarming with 2400mAH batteries but they seem to have disappeared .
They are a bit pricey, but I still see a couple of them in ebay. But remember that they're quite large and your Magician wont fit into the stock case.
Also, try tools such as Pocket Hack Master which allow you to underclock the CPU, consuming less power. You can also use em to set CPU speed based on process usage.
I got a new extended bat as a Christmas present (obliged my hubby to get me one) and now I'm taking extra precautions on making its life longer and not end up like my previous battery (r.i.p.)....
I'm monitoring it every now and then and it far exceeds my expectations. Imagine, I only charge once a week! That's for a normal use but sometimes, I have to charge twice a week coz of heavy wi-fi usage.
Anyway, here are my findings upon close monitoring:
15 minutes of wi-fi usage with update for Newsbreak, WeatherWatcher and Yahoo Go, together with surfing via Opera. Battery Consumption -- 5%
1 hour of watching video with TCMP -- 10%
30 minutes of playing music via Windows Media Player - 5%
15 minute call - 1%
30 minutes of playing Text Twist - 3%
So far, that's what I have. What are your observations in your battery? I never checked with my old battery so I'm not sure if the consumption is due to the bat or the phone..
Anyway, if there's a previous topic like this, please merge with that (i searched and found no exact same topic).
P.S. Just wanted to do a positive feedback / ad for MDA Pro UK. Great service. Great place to buy stuff for our phone.
Hi,
In the last month or two my battery is losing capacity. I can drain out the battery in half a day, when I am working a lot on Athena, for example HSDPA, reboot, phone calls (1h),... but this was not a case before. Usually with “normal” usage I could get the Athena running for a couple of days (3, sometimes 4). Now, when watching a movie or making a phone call the battery drains out about 10 to 20% in couple of minutes. Sometimes it goes from 30% to 5% in just a few minutes. Yes, BT is on always, Wifi amost never. I turn off the data connection completely when I stop using it. All in all the battery is new empty in a day or in a day and a half.
I am really handling my battery with care – so I think. I usually charge it when it is almost or completely drain out and then charge it fully. Athena is 1.5years old with OEM battery.
Is there any way to check the battery capacity or a application which will monitor consumption (or a electrical current)? (I think I read somewhere of such a application??). What do you suggest?
Thx,
Uros
P.s. A recently switched from irus 0mb PP ROM to michy's 4.1 ROM. I find no difference in battery consumption...
Is it possible some application is turning on Wifi or GPS? Either will kill the battery within hours.
However, with 1.5 years on the battery I think your problem is age. I think others on here have had issues after a year. I'm coming up on a year next month and already notice a slight decrease in capacity. Try buying a new battery, worst case you have it as a spare.
hi
what kind of battery performance are you guys getting and how long (on avg) does it take to charge it?
any suggestions to improve it?
mine is about a day with 2 couple of hours of browsing, 5 hours last fm/zune musin, an hours of calls.
charging is not very fast i have to admit but i still love it.
is this normal?
thanks
I haven't been able to find out as I'm normally not far from a computer (Home, Uni etc.) and I take my charger cable with me, what I do know however is its much better than my HD7 was.
Hey guys, ok did a battery drain test with these settings:
•3G/data tuned off (only because my area has a low 3G signal, meaning the phone would be using more battery power)
•wifi on
•2 hotmail accounts (sync email every 15mins)
•bluetooth off
•location on
•brightness set to medium
•phone updates on (set only to use wifi and connection with home computer)
•find my phone options all unticked
The battery drain test included playing the movie Ironman on loop with volume set to 50% (15/30) using it's built in speaker.
I did not include the end credits due to alot of blacks that'd be on the screen, meaning a false measurement, due to SAMOLED's nature.
While the video did not fill up the whole screen (black strips on the top and bottom) most movies you'd be watching would most likely have similar aspect ratio anyway.
Ironman file details:
Video:
720x400
1404kbps data rate
1468kbps total bitrate
25fps
Audio:
64kbps
2 (stereo) channels
48kHz Audio sample rate
Ok now for the results:
Started watching with a full battery at 9:50am
Battery critical notification came on at 4:22pm
Phone powered down at 4:38pm
Total hours of video playback: 6hours 48mins
Mine didn't seem great for the first few days, but seems to have gotten significantly better. I'm sure that it is not just that I'm using it less, although I have turned the screen off full brightness (looks amazing!)
I comfortably get a day now with WIFI on all day and 3 email accounts (exchange set to recieve as they arrive).
Overall, I'm very very pleased with this phone - It's a truely beautiful piece of kit.
cheers,
Mickey
Battery update:
Used fairly lightly with a full battery since yesterday 6:45am.
Now at 4:02pm battery icon has gone empty (Though critical notification has not popped up yet so theres more life yet). I'm writing this now, because I've thrown it to the charger incase it shuts on me on the train ride back. And I really wanna continue playing Harvest
Conditions:
* 3G/Data on all day (3G/data turned off once I get home)
* location on
* bluetooth off
* brightness auto
* find my phone off
* phone updates set only to over wifi or computer only
* wifi off
Useage:
* wifi used for 15mins then turned off
* phonecall for 5mins
* 40 sent sms' / 39 received sms'
* 2 email accounts set to check every 15mins
* pictures and people hub updated about 10 times each
* 3 photos taken. 1 uploaded to fb
* Updated twitter, checked imdb app
* browsed marketplace for about 15mins
* 20 mins spent trying to setup work account to no avail
* about 5mins worth of browsing
* 20 min music via headphone jack.
* And the usual playing around with the UI
* No games played for this test
sorry, to bump this old thread up again, but i´m worried about my battery life being normal....
i have 3 email accounts to be updated every hour and edge internet (3G is even worse)....
with this configuration and after a 45 to 60 min of playing my battery is below 1/4 of the full capacity.
i use the phone for over 1 week now and the battery went through couple of cycles so that it should have its normal power by now..
is that normal?
I you read the messages before your post you already know the answer is no.
Charging is slow as hell, same for batter.. omnia will suck it really quickly.
after a few charges is pretty quick, and it lasts for a whole day without problems
Maybe in alternative reality. When using it (browsing, gps location, mails) it drains in two-three hours, no problem. I sold mine and bought optimus black, which is true smartphone.
maybe you don't know that in mango there's a save battery feature in settings
but now is not your problem, you can go to optimus black forums now
Save battery for sure... No auto checking email, no facebook connection and that sucks, because for that i can buy nokia 3310.
blah blah blah blah blah..9

In what way is that helpful? I do all that stuff and my batterys fine - maybe yours just sucked.
You can buy 2 extra batteries and a charger thing on Ebay for like £5. screw worrying about battery life, it isn't an iPhone.
I usually only get about a day's worth of battery, i can make it last probbably a day and a half if i dont use it much but since i do use it alot that doesnt happen often!
I had to buy a second battery that I keep always with me. It comes with charger that can charge the single second battery and the Phone connected via USB...

Your Omnia 7 battery or charger had some kind of problem for sure. Now relax yourself, enjoy your Optimus black and get ready to miss the SuperAMOLED screen of the Omnia 7.
Regards
It is amazing the much longer battery lite when I remove SIM
Sent from my OMNIA7 using Board Express
Does anybody noticed that?
I wonder if that happens on others like Android, iOs or other WP7 phones.
Sent from my OMNIA7 using Board Express
It is normal thing. In idle, most of the power usage is taken by GSM .
My old Kaiser with years old battery could handle week on battery and still having over half of the battery left. My HX4700 with many, many years old battery held week and still had about 70% of battery .
Hi,
I started doing some battery tests today as I think my battery is draining faster than the quoted figures on this forum.
Please note the following, tests were carried out with Power saving ENABLED, 4g ENABLED, brightness on auto, wifi off, sync off, GPS off, bluetooth off, playing full screen and all the air gestures/eye tracking scroll off
Test 1 - from 100% battery charge
Play the movie Casino Royale (1080p) - roughly 145 minutes. Battery drop from 100% to 80% = -20%.
Average battery consumption of 1% for every 7.25 minutes played.
Next test was carried away straight after. Therefore perhaps the phone could still be hot causing the battery to drain faster.
Test 2 - from 79% battery charge
Play the movie Never Back Down (1080p) - roughly 113 minutes. Battery drop from 79% to 57% =-22%
Average battery consumption of 1% for every 5.13 minutes played.
The fluctuation of battery consumption was roughly 29% between the two tests. Between the two, average consumption of 6.19minutes per 1% consumption. Therefore anticipated playback time from a full charge is estimated at 10.3hr
This leads me to believe that either the battery "gauge" on the phone is either inaccurate or (more likely) my battery is somewhat faulty. Why else would the efficiency change so much? With my very limited knowledge, I can only come to the conclusion it is linked to the device's heat.
My questions:
A) Are these consumption figures in line with everyone else?
B) Why would the battery consumption fluctuate like this
C) My battery is way more efficient playing movies then it is listening to music while using whatsapp. Is this normal?
A) yes your battery is good if not better than some other's
B) on every phone i experinced the battery drops lower from 100% than it does from 75% and from 40% it really drops faster
C) because your using the internet which consumes a lot of battery
Your approach is flawed:
Don't start at 100% because it may say that but could be less as the battery is not kept charging once it's full. As a result it could be a couple of points below 100 and you wouldn't know. There was an article about this somewhere on this site.
Also, you must use the same video file to get the same result. Utilization and load depend mainly on bitrate and codec used, not the length and/or resolution in itself.
Cheers Ewok, quite new to this and didnt realise that a different video could have a different effect on the efficiency
