I think title says most of it.
I need push email from my companies corporate email system.
We have a Blackberry server but I have yet to find a working Blackberry client for the Wizard?
On my old PDA2K I have been using Smartner Duality which worked great HOWEVER this does not seem to be compaitble with the Wizard so suddenly I have lost my email capability and need to get it back urgently.
Any ideas out there folks?

PS Smartner client on my desktop in the office used to 'forward' all my outlook mail via a special server they had and thence to my PDA2K.
It is this kind of functionality I am lookiing to replace UNLESS someone actually has the Blackberry client software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for MS's push you'll need to wait for a ROM update with AKU 2.0
for the time being you can just set your wizard to sync with your exchange server over the net (wifi/gprs etc) every x minutes
You can try vgsmail by geoffreycross to be found in the thread 'push-email now available' it's developed for 2003 & there are posts by yzzard to get working under 2005 as well. Need to add some reg.keys manual.

I WISH.
My company is running a REAL OLD version of Exchange server and our Firewall will not allow PDA's to connect!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately this is not an option for me.

I don't think we have IMAP enabled on our mail server and I would still haev a firewall problem so this won't work for me either. :evil:

Do they support the imap protocol? if so try vgsmail.

I doubt they actually block PDAs since Activesync just runs over port 80 and the mail apps just use standard mail ports. More likely they don't have the appropriate software set up to active sync. Sounds like you might be better off waiting until the next ROM updates (Rumors put it as close as this week, but deffinetly before the end of Q1 this year) and possibly looking into a hosted exchange solution and having your work email forward there.

I don't know if Vodafone offers the same thing as T-Mobile here in the states but see if they have corporate email access available, T-Mobile does and it works ok, similar to Smartner (i used that when I was running 2003SE) it works on my network and it is really locked down from outside access and they have disabled pop and imap access plus we are running Lotus Notes (man it sucks)
Anyone got any recommendations for push email providers. Or just names to compare.
So far I have tried:
4smartphone.net - good service but not cheap
mail2web.com - good and cheap
any other recommendations ?

From what I've gathered so far, go with one of those two.

If you would like to have direct push mail from Microsoft on your Universal, it can be done with MS Exchange server SP2
having Echange SP2 on your own (Hosted) server, and building your own certificate on this server (domain) which you later can import on your Universal, you can use Direct Push mail (Https) fron the Universal to your Echange server.
I'm using it,..and the mobile active sync is constantly keeping the GPRS HTTPS connection allive and is syncronising constantly my inbox (agenda, contacts, email and tasks) Not the same as blackberry, but only several seconds delay (depends on gprs network, umts will be faster)
Download the latest rom with the AKU2 feature pack from MS build in, install it on your device and you can use the Direct Push function

Yes yes, I know all this... but you can get exactly the same thing for four pounds a month with 4smartphone.net and they take care of 90% of the hassle for you. Setting up an exchange server is beyond 95% of people with handhelds. And even then, I may be being charitable.
Even downloading a dodgy copy of Exchange via bittorrent is more hassle than getting 4smartphone.net to host it for you.

I've been using mail2web with my XDA Exec for the last few days and it works really well. Pretty good for a free service!
Been using 4smartphone.net trial for a few days now... My Exec's mail keeps de-syncing with the Exchange server.
I figured that if I MOVE emails between folders a lot, I start getting ActiveSync problems with error code 0x80070008 and I can't sync anymore. After a soft reset, I can sync again, but the folders on my Exec are now out of sync with folders on the Exchange server. i.e. some mails that were moved are now in Inbox of Exchange, whereas they have been moved to another mail folder on my Exec.
Seems too unreliable for me :|
My take on 4smartphone.net is that its a bit more professional then mail2web. It also ensures that emails sent are stamped with the email address you want to use (i.e. the one fwded/pop3ed to 4smartphone).
mail2web is a little more DIY, however the FAQ is good.
Ultimately I have opted to use mail2web as its only $1.99 a month vs $3.99 a month for 4smartphone (also have to keep up my IGN subscription

did you setup manually - ? I did, maybe the autosetup has an issue.
are you syncing over wifi ? this has to be done manually

I haven't actually contacted them yet... I've been googling 0x80070008 and found it to be memory related issues on the device. I'm thinking memory leak leading to lack of memory on my device -> ActiveSync dies.
yeah, could be too many things running as well.
I haven't rebooted for 2 weeks now (since the new O2 update) - famous last words !

no. u can use activesync over a GPRS/3G with wm 2003se. look at mail2web.com FAQs.
however this is not push, its periodic activesync.
push email is where your device gets email as soon as its delivered.
this means that you get the email straight away. the technical difference is that push (in WM5) is server driven and not device driven.
I presume you don't have a universal as they are all WM5.

I have a question: does this mean that you don't pay for the data required to send the e-mail to your device? The one thing that's held me back from diving into push e-mail so far is the worry of going over my data limit (5mb/month on O2 - I can't afford any extra...) and paying too much on my contract.
If MMS messages are free to receive, is it the same for push e-mail messages because the server is initiating the connection? Or do we still have to pay? If you could answer this for me I'd really appreciate it, so thanks in advance

I apologize for my ignorance regarding Pop3 email as all I use is corporate email. I setup an activesync partnership on a laptop that only has EarthLink email. I kind of expected to be able to configure the 8125 to send / receive EarthLink email from it's Outlook E-Mail but it seems that I need to create an separate Pop3 account for EarthLink on his PDA?? I'm sure I'm missing something extremely simple but my searches have been fruitless.
Feel free to blast me into oblivion ( after pointing me in the right direction of course!)

Assuming you wish to get your pop3 email on your PDA whilst it is not connected to your laptop (GPRS or WiFi) you wll you need to create a new email profile on the PDA using your existing email settings. If you just want to syncronise your email between the laptop and PDA then just set up this relationship in Activestink. If you want to use your PDA as the medium over which your laptop will connect to your email account then you will need to configue your PDA as a modem.
Let me know if I am way off in uderstanding your problem...
So my understanding is that even though the client has one email account with EarthLink and he'd like to synchronize his contacts, calendar and email with his PC he has to create a new Pop3 account on his PDA that retrieves his email while he's on the golf course or wherever that is completely separate from his Outlook E-Mail? (and this guy wonders why I'm trying to push him into a corporate email account!)

Yep. Thats how I do it. My POP3 account is duplicated on my PDA and laptop. I use the T-Mobile web push service to shove the emails to the PDA just like text messages. I can't see why a corperate email account would be any better or different. I also have my corperate email on my PDA and corperate laptop. Same process....
Thanks for your help regarding this but now I'm confused. With my corporate I have one and only one account on my PDA which synchronizes with my Exchange server. My question is ... can my client's EarthLink email be downloaded to his PDA's main Outlook E-mail which was configured when I created the AS partnership? Or does he have to have new emails delivered to his EarthLink profile and use his PDA's Outlook profile only to review old emails when his PDA is on the road? This makes absolutely no sense.
There is a major difference between this then and Exchange email.
Sorry to be so boneheaded but I really can't believe that this is supposed to work like this!

Goodness your starting to confuse me :? AFAIK the Outlook email profile on your PDA is purely there to act as a syncronised copy of the email client that you configure AS to work with. If you look in your PDA email options you do not get the opportunity to configure this profile. In effect this profile only gives the user the ability to store on his PDA those emails that already exist on the partner PC. In addition he will be able to edit these emails (Reply, delete, file and create new) whilst the PDA is disconnected from the PC. Upon the next AS syncronisation any ammendments or new emails created on the PDA will be sent using the PC communication path and any new emails receievd into the main PC (Exchange) account will be updated to the PDA. This functionality is desgined for all PDA's BUT remember most PDA's don't have the phone built in so this is exactly the functionality they need.
If you want your clients coperate email to be updated "live" to his PDA (Phone Edition) there are three ways to do it:
1 Configure a POP3 or IMAP4 account on his corperate network with suitable dial-up access - This will be dog slow as the PDA will have to use the GSM (NOT GPRS) network to access.
2 Configure his MS exchange server to handle the new "push" email service available with Exchange 2003 SP2. A relationship is set up between the PDA and the Exchange server and the connection is made over the internet which will allow his GPRS/EDGE connection to be utilised which will be miles quicker than GSM dial-up. This method allows emails to be "pushed" to the PDA in a similar way to text messages rather than the client having to make a connection every 30 mins or whatever. The PDA software will need to be WM5 AKU2.
3 Use a 3rd party relay system such as Goodlink from Good technologies. The PDA can be WM2K3 and does not require AKU2 functionality as a client app will be installed on the phone. This works by having a secure connection between his corperate network and the Good Technlogy service centre which will then link to the PDA in a very similar way to option 2.
Any other email accounts will have their own profile configured on the PDA.
I sure hope this is of some help to cause my fingers are sore typing this out on my Wizard :wink:
Thanks for the info but I'm quite aware of and have been utilizing the corporate methods of PDA email for a number of years. Unfortunately all my clients have Exchange servers so I haven't had to deal with Pop email in quite a number of years. This particular client is a friend that insists on living with his Earthlink email. I'm just so used to having my email synced without having to work so hard!

No probs Steven, the only thing I would add is POP3 accounts on a mobile device will normally fall foul of useable SMTP gateways. I'm not sure what earthlink use but if you run into difficulties trying to send emails you'll know where to look. An SMTP relay server that accomodates user validation is required when your "off the ISP network"
I've been getting more and more problems sending/receiving mail from my AOL and yahoo accounts on my M5000. More and more I've been getting error messages telling me to check the account settings and coverage (even when connected via wifi!).
In desperation I decided to buy another mail client, Profimail, and lo and behold it seems I'm able to send and receive mail again!
Is there some kind of fundamental flaw with the way the MS mail client works?
It took me ages to discover that to set a special port for smtp mail, you have to specifiy it as smtp.mail.com:587, the Profimail has a drop down box for 'smtp' port, so its a lot better in that one area alone!
Anyone else had problems with the default MS mail client, it was driving me mad!!!

Hi You mention the M5000 (Orange).
Other people have had issues with this and one solutuion was to change their outgoing POP3 server to smtp.orange.net
I am connecting to BTYahoo (via the mail.btinternet.com server) and have both of these in incoming and outgoing server names and dont have any issues - apart from when BT's web mail is slow authorizing login details.

Hy everybody, I have from two weeks already a HTC diamond, a beutiful phone with everything you need apart the up time.
I am not a noob in internet technologies, I am working with and on the net for more then 10 years already.
I configured on my phone a hotmail account, the easiest one, a yahoo account, a gmail account and another yahoo account and all work fine but my job mail account, the one I configured on a SE K850 with no difficulty is not working on this beautiful diamond.
Is a simple POP3/SMTP account on a private mail server and I have no problem configure it on any outlook, or outlook express on any computer. My colleagues has blackberry and i phones and works fine, i was the only stupid enough to buy a WM phone. Incoming is POP3 on 110 outgoing requires authentication SMTP on 25.
I tried to configure outlook I have on diamond is not working at all, i tried to configure it as a normal account receive is working, send is not working.
I tried to go in connections-advanced server settings-and to change connection (i have Internet, Work, Vodafone Live, Vodafone MMS and Vodafone Ro), is not working, i have an active internet connection, wap, i tried with WiFi active, without, the same result, receive ok, send it says "The message(s) could not be sent. check that you have network coverage and that your network coverage is correct. Then try sending again."
As the receive is working and the log in information for send is identical with the log in information for receive I think that the account information is correct.
So, where is the problem, can anybody help me? I would like to configure the outlook and (if possible) synchronize it with the one on my computer, it would be the best, but I don't know why I can't, and if outlook is not possible maybe I can get it to work as a regular mail account.
Please don't tell me to do something I did already.

I really don't like WM because is so opaque, is doing things but does them as he wants and not as you want. For example, why the hell when I am connected on a wifi connection is using my mobile internet connection to send and receive mails????
check the thread i posted in the Touch Pro forum. This was a common problem WM6.1 resulting from a new WM feature. Sometimes sending would work and sometimes not..
Anyway, microsoft recently published a patch for this..You can find the link in the thread below. It is meant for all WM6.1 devices

Hi - I have a similar issue, but with gmail. Incoming works perfectly via imap, however outgoing emails do not work at all. I tried the patch mentioned above, changing outgoing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.gmail.com:465 or 587 and it still doesn't work. Also tried to create the account again to no avail.
I used the standard settings on gmail site https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886 - dunno what I am missing here!! Any help would be nice
