Orange SPV M500 Tom Tom Navigator/Bluetooth GPS Problem. - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi there!
I've recently got a M500 and I have a cellink BTG-7000 Bluetooth GPS Reciever.
I can pair the M500 & Reciever but when I go into the Tom Tom Navigator it does not find the Reciever when I go to Preferences. (there are com ports there but no matter what port I select it doesnt find it)
Any ideas why?

Hi,
I had simular probs. after pairing with another BT device. Just paired with the GPS & all was fine, so
- make sure the GPS is the last paired device
- create a com port for the GPS
- try upgrading radio
- get another BT stack
I'm having the stack from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532 but can't say it solved it or not. But it works & I can use the BT GPS & a BT earpiece at the same time.
Good luck, M

How do I create a com port for the GPS? I dont seem to have that option.

My BT stack asks me whether to create a com port for it when I pair with my GPS. Also under the BT connection settings I've got a tab which read 'COM ports'.
Cheers, M

Mine doesn't have any of these options, strange?!
I guess thats the problem, it seems my M500 doesnt let you manually assign a port.
Any ideas on a fix then?

I am on radio 1.12 & got those options from radio 1.11 on. You can try the updated BT stack from the thread 'O2 mini new BT stock'
Maybe that helP as well, otherwise upgrade your radio.
Cheers, M

Take the wired gps, baudrate 9600 en after that test some comports. It takes a while when TT detects the receiver, so hold on a bit. Most of the time it is comport 4 or 5.

what version are you using, i had similar problems,
I found that if you install version 5.1 or 5.2 straight on then it will not find the gps.
i installed the original 5.0 from cd. then got GPS working. TomTom may ask you to reset the device to configure gps [it did for me].
i then upgraded to 5.1 then 5.2 and everything works perfectly.

I initially had the same problem with my BT GPS device and tomtom 5.0, but pairing them just before loading up tomtom and setting it to COM 5 and then waiting a while seemed to solve it!
Good luck!

Got-it!
Duh!
I must have missed something here, so I'm posting this for the few people who are thicker than I must be;-
When setting the BT com port under 'Bluetooth settings', the outgoing com port selection window is blank.
HOWEVER, choose 'settings>system>bluetooth setting' and voila!, that is where you see that COM5 is pre-chosen. (Why there needs to be a double-entry is another matter?)
Hope this saves someone some time.

another MS bluetooth COM-port hack

Occasionally I've found a site: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...egory=0&os=PPCA&osl=en&deviceid=4351&devlib=8
this update was designed for Dell Axim X5 PPC only, but after installing it on my Imate I've found a "com ports" tab in the Microsoft Bluetooth settings. Can someone test this update, maybe it would be useful for those who have problems with BT GPS? I cannot test it myself yet.
interesting, There is a new dll (BthVCOMMgr.dll) and some reg settings ( HKLM/sofware/microsoft/bluetooth/serial/config) in the CAB.
I did not know the Dell also uses the MS BT stack for its BT extension pack!!!
Might be worthwhile knowing how users of the Dell cope with this BT Stack . . . .
Hey, it works. Great
I tried it with my Fortuna BT Clip-on and TomTom 3 and it worked with
virtual COM-Port 7.
Before I needed the Pocket Bluetooth Tools to get my BT-Mouse work with TomTom.

Would like to know:
WHAT works (especially when 'it' didnt work before)
WHAT is your ROM version?
WHAT is your ROM origin?
Do you use BT with a BT BPS and TomTom3?

Hi,
please can you explain me how to configure-use it step by step. I would like to use my TomTom BT receiver with other apps. As you know you can do it normaly, but If I create a virtual com port mybe...please help me, how to do it? Do you think it can solve the problem reletad to BT headset profile too? I mean that will I use BT car kit and BT headset both?
Thanx a lot!
@edsub
File comes into compressed format. To install it, is it enough to extract the file and copy build.PPC2003_ARM.CAB on my Qtek2020, or should I copy build.ini and register.bat files too?
I have native Qtek2020 BT stack and the last ROM 1.72 ITA...will it work?
Thanx again!

Yes, that's enough.
You just pair your BT-Device as before, after that you will be asked if you wanna give it a COM-Port. Do that like you see at the Screenshot.
That's it. Wish you success

I was trying to to use GPSDash, by setting a virtual com port to TomTom BT receiver...but it's hard to find the right combination between COM port and Baud Rate, working for my Qtek2020 (1.72)
I also have tried to uninstall the BT Dell patch (that seems to fit perfectly to Qtek 2020), and tried to connect GPSDash via COM5...but with no positive results.
So:
1-can someone suggest me a GPS SW to test with BT Dell patch and TomTom BT, easy to configure?
2- do you think I can use BT Dell patch to assign a virtual COM port to my BT CarKit, in order to let it work, beside BT Headst? Which com port usually is assigned to BT headset and which virtual one should I assign to BT car Kit, to test if it will work?
Thanx again!
From what I read here is the only thing different this tool allows you to manually select the BT-assigned COM port. Without this s/w COM4 is selected for inbound and COM5 for outbound . . . .
I've tested it on my 1.72.00WWE
You CAN assign ports.
Only the BSP: ones succeed (looks like all other ports allready exist)
It did not benefit me when using Tom Tom GPS: I was hoping to be able to use the 'Bluetooth GPS' portsetting wich would prevent my MDAII from almost freezing when I start Tom Tom navigator with the GPS out of range (currently GPS uses COM5 which is fine AS LONG AS the GPS is in range and switched on)

TTN5 and Universal

I can't get TTN5 to pick up my BT GPS. I think the problem is that I can only seem to be able to assign COM0, COM8 or COM4 in the BT settings dialogue.
TTN5 need 6 or 7 IIRC.
Even though the BT COM ports dialogue allows me to select any COM from 0 to 9. It complains about not being able to create the port if I select anything other than 0, 8 or 4.
Any ideas?
I am having the same issue connecting with my GPS and Destinator 3 s/w.
Try pairing the GPS with your device before loading tomtom, and assign COM0. That's what I did and tomtom picked up the device immediately without problems.
Having said that my GPS is a tomtom.
Can't install TT5... any suggestion?
I get an error and than installation quits...
you have to connect through COM5. At least it works for me.
Strange enough, now Tomtom doesn't show this port anymore, so they day they unpair, I'm screwed.
I have the same problem. I can only select com 0, 4 or 8 and none of these ports show up in TT5. I am unable to make it work. I even tried ti activate the GPS control panel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=154825#154825) but it seems this control panel does actually not work (probably why it was hidden in the first place).
Any suggestions to make TT5 work are very welcome.
Some how (no idea how), TT5 was working with the GPS. Yeterday I had to hard reset due to several reasons, I now, again, I cannot manage to connect the damn bluetooth GPS.
Same reason as always: NO COM5 in TT5.
Damn!
Guys now I am really stuck! I have been messing about with the registry, this is what i have found; COM6 friendly name is RIL (radio something or another I think basically the phone etc…) I have changed that to another port (HKLM\Drivers\BuilIn\Serial….) changing the index to another port i.e. a free one like 0/4/8 upon reboot allows me to map port 6 to BT gps under MSBT stack; however the phone (radio) stops functioning although BT serial port has been assigned to 6 TT5 still does not start the connection! Looking through the reg under HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\serial_BTUR this is the default BT serial port; this is set to port 7 (Index) if you change that port to something other than 7 reboot BT stops working. I have loaded the old TT3.7 GPS driver/software (Not complete TT3 just the gps update) and I can connect and communicate with the BT GPS. The BT GPS is seen as BT GPS. I can leave it connected however as soon as I fire up TT5 still no GPS communication. Tried to get TT5 working for over a week and have still failed. I think we need to find how TT5 detects available ports and edit/hack that area. There is on thing I have noticed though; if I select TomTom GPS there appears to be some BT communication although no thing on the GPS screen the BT light on my GPS unit (Fortuna) flickers periodically. Seriously stuck any help greatly appreciated as I am currently running out of ideas…..

I've completely given up. I've spent most of the day hacking the registry to COM5, with multiple combinations on the GPS control panel, etc... with no success.
I've hard reseted the device and I won't install TT5 until someone figures out how to connect it to a Bluetooth GPS.
I can't believe such a new device hasn't sorted out a simple connection to a Bluetooth GPS.
Well... not yet.
I've been able to set up TT5 working with my old Bluetooth GPS, but it doesn't work with my new Syson Blue Sirf III. Have no idea why, maybe someone can lighten me up.
Anyway, this is what I've done for non SIRF III and it works for me.
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 8.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 8 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
Hope it works for everybody.
Now, how to make it work in SIRF III - no idea. I've made the same process with the Sirf III GPS and it doesn't connect.
Success!!!!
You sir, are a genius.
I salute you.
I've got a Fortuna Clip on and it sucks
They had to screw us again with the BT stack. Morons. It is abslutely impossible to set this baby up with TT5. I got TT5 to work on the Magician, and the XDA 2, but this, abosulutely beats me. It seems Tomtom barely let's me choose any ports...lost
Top Man andreuroig
Thanks andreuroig your a top mman Just got it working on Fortuna Clipon BT GPS; Can I pick your brains about maybe trying to install the WIDCOM BT stack on the universal; have tried manually hacking away at this; but have given up now....

I agree Have tried andreuroig way, I can´t get a com0 in tomtom ,
Please help.
:?
MIracle, got it to work. Clip on + tt 5.1
This how I did it:
1.) IN BT settings, (After having paired and chosen 'Serial', went to COM ports and selected 0
2.) Then, from inside tt5, went to gps...picked the 'other BT', it ehn showed IR ports, serial cable etc, Port 7 (no use, couldn't do much) and THEN Com port 0. Clicked that and it worked.
Done

slight subject change, but.... JasJar, Tomtom 5.1.......slight twist
possible to have the 100mb GB map stored on the phone, so to use a SD GPS Card?, Due to the new memory layout of the phone this could be an issue.
I have that and TTN3 was ok with the 32mb map in, but since 5.1 you cant have smaller than GB 105mb, so im stuck on TTN3 for SD GPS unit and TTN5 for the, err not yet purchased BT GPS unit,
Some sort of map cutter would be nice,
Ive ordered my Jasjar but waiting for the post,
What i really what to know is, do i put the SD GPS unit on ebay now and recoupe some losses having to get a bluetooth unit or not ????

Jasjar, BT GPS and TT V5.1
Some people here state that they installed TT V5.1. Actually V5.1 is an upgrade that can be downloaded from the TT support site. It requires V5 as a basis. BUT the V5.1 only comes in EXE format (no CAB fiile) so I wonder how you guys were able to get 5.1 installed as the setup program crashes as soon as it connects to Activesync 4.0 or 4.1.
?
you have to copy the 5.0 cab files across, then run them and it installs that way,
then just the 5.1 ugrade to copy across
faisal.husain: no idea about how to install de Widcom BT. That is out of my league.
JoseF:
Start from zero. Erase your bond with your GPS. Start TT5 and select any port that you have free (COM7 or even Serial on COM1).
Pair your GPS and follow the steps I've mentioned. It should work, but only, if it's not a non SIRF III gps.

HOLUX 236 PROBLEM

HI all!this is my first post on the forum and i am glad to be here!
the problem is i cannot connect the holux 236 to the s100 or magician.
rom version is 1.12.00WWE.I tried pocket bluetooth tools but no luck.
the gps viewer gets nothing and also the destinator pn shows that no gps is available...
please help in any way...a walkthrough would be welcome since i am a newbie with ppc...
thanks in advance and keep up the good work!!
Hi, have you had any success with any other gps reciever opr is this the first one you try?
Suppose you have tries to enter the sw program and then configure the reciever with your magician? Is this where the trouble is?
this is the first one to use.
s100 gives com 5 to the gps but still no luck with ddestinator.states that no gps is present.
maybe a bluetooth stack problem?
could use all the help i can get..............
Ive just ordered a Holux 236 from Fleabay, should be here in a few days, will post my settings if I get it working ok
is the holux 236gps mini actually compatible with the QTEK S100??????????
Hi
Switch on Bluetooth and Pair the device using pass key 0000
Then DO NOT connect the device
Enter GPS Viewer 1.5 and select (Bluetooth) COM Port 6 (may be something else on your device). Select Open GPS and you should start getting data...
Hope that helps
The whole problem is that I cannot get my Qtek 9100 to show the spp slave service. This seems to be a qtek problem because none of my other BT devices will show it either. They showed fine with my old HP 6365. :?
I am not sure in that case... I cannot remember but does it use Widcomm Stack or M$?
I'm not sure what stack they use. I don't think it's Widcomm, because my HP BT keyboard won't connect and the reason is that it says there is no Widcomm stack. Go figure.
if thats the case, how do we solve it?third party software?change bluetooth stack?and if yes how.........?and i thought it would be plug n play...
OK, I have this BT receiver, works perfectly with my mini. Have you added any bluetooth stacks in addition the default ? When you search for devices does the Bt find the Holux? Is it switched on and charged? Don't know how new you are to bluetooth devices, but bear in Mind that a brand new Bt device out of the box may take up to 30 minutes to get a fix for the first time.
no new stacks added, device is charged.
gps pairs with s100,asks if it should create a port,i reply yes and i press finish.in the bluetooth menu at the com ports i press new outgoing port and i am asked to choose a device.i select holux, press next and nothing happens....so whats the deal here?in the bluetooth serial port setup i check the outbound com port:com 5 beforehand.so please tell me what am i doing wrong this time....is there something i didnt do or something i did...?
Ok, so the pairing came up fine. Thats one thing out of the way.
Now, forget selecting outgoing or incoming ports, its completely useless, doesn't work. I have TOMTOM and have selected "Other Bluetooth Device" and selected COM5, it works fine. Could be your com port is being occupied by other bluetooth such as Activesync.
Delete all paired devices, Go to Start, Settings, Bluetooth Setting and check that "Outbound COM port: COM5" is ticked only, click OK then try pairing your Holux and try again. It does work with the mini, I promise!!
I got a 236 slim and no problem with MS BT stack.
try to connect as explained by moghisi101, it should work
WELL i did try, trust me!at what point should the orange led light up???it should first communicate with the gps viewer and then start blinking or something?cause so far the orange led has not shown its colors........is this normal or do i have a faulty gps?????????????
Hmmm sounds like a faulty unit. Ive had my 236 for a couple of days now and it worked first time with Tomtom, just selected 'Other device' and 'Com5'
Im really impressed by this unit, even gets 5-6 satellites indoors !
When you turn the unit on the orange LED should be on all the time (searching) then after about 45 secs it should start to flash indicating that it has locked onto satellites. If you arent getting any light from the orange LED it does suggest a faulty unit

TYTN TomTom Bluetooth GPS

Got my htc tytn loaded totom 5 onto it and guess what bluetooth gps doesn't work with it! Cannot get correct comm port .According to HTC TomTom know about this. Just hoping somebody already has a fix for this?
Had no problems pairing my BT Slim GPS with my Vario II, TomTom runs fine.
What GPS receiver you using ?
works fine on my xda trion as well.......im using tom tom 5.21 with BT-338 gps receiver.......im also using com port 0......you basically have to pair it and then add outgoing port as com port 0.....and during the installation on tom tom make sure you choose com port 0......that worked for me anyways....hope that helps.

Thanks guys have re-installed tomtom and now it comes up with com prt 0.Probably didn't install correctly first time .Now up and running .Fantastic!!!!

Hi everyone - I am having a similar problem
I have a new GPS receiver and have established a bluetooth partnership and done the outgoing port to com0 which is the default.
Tom Tom is installed and when I try and configure it I am not seeing all the options shown on the website. It just says no gps detected or something similar. I am sure its something simple.
Can anyone help please?

There's a program CreatePorts that is floating around (you'll have to do a search) that allows TomTom to see additional com ports in the Bluetooth GPS setup. I used this same program on my Samsung i730, and now on the 8525.
You just paid your GPS with the PPC, create the outbound port (in my case I used com 2), run CreatePorts, and then go in to TomTom GPS setup.
Once you get it set up, you don't have to run the app anymore, and TomTom works great
OUCH

I tried running this but i can still only assign certain points from my bluetooth manager and dont have these displayed on the tomtom menu.
When you go into the GPS Status settings on Tomtom and tap configure, have you tried looking to see which com ports it lists and then going back to the bluetooth settings and doing trial and error to allocate any of those port numbers as an outgoing port for your GPS unit?
For my genuine Tomtom GPS unit, I did not even have to set up a port, I just had to pair the device but when I used a friends alternative brand of GPS unit for a short while, I was only able to get that one working under Com port 4. I can't quite remember but it may even have been a case that Com 4 only became visible in the Tomtom GPS configure menu after I had allocated it as an outgoing port for the GPS device (sorry, it is a while back so I can't quite remember the order in which I set it up)
Hope you get it sorted
arghh
I a so annoyed. I did this and had no luck. Later on I did something and got the option for port 2 and used it and it was great. I had to do a soft reset for something else and I cant do it again. tried everything.
MMMM
Happy yet frustrated
I have deleted create ports from my device as it only works once. I have reset my device. I reinstalled createports and extracted the file. I then saw port 2 straight away - the one that had been missing in tomtom.
The only problem is that if I do a soft reset I have to do that again!
It is very frustrating trying to get some of these things working. Have you thought about upgrading to Tomtom 6? you may find you have less problems getting the pairing and ports working right.
Failing that, I am sure you will be able to get it working again, just keep trying all the com ports one by one until you find one that appears in the Tomtom configuration. Like I said, on my XDA Vario II (Hermes) I managed to get it working on Com 4 and when I had an XDA Mini S (Wizard) I seem to remember that it was either Com 6 or Com 7 which worked on that one.
You might want to check the bluetooth settings for security and beam as well. Try turning security off (ie. passkey required off) and make sure the beam setting is ticked to receive all incoming beams.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you

Pairing TOMTOM 6 with Bluetooth GPS (easy) - Kaiser
First after reading the posts I thought I had to reinstall Tom Tom or install another software. Luckily, I paused and read the message when I was about to configure my other bluetooth receiver. It said, first you must establish your bluetooth connection. Well, I lied coz I did try to go on and couldnt find COM 0 or whatever you guys have said.
But that's what I did, eventually. Paired the device as BT GPS, check the serial connection (not sure if secure connection needs to be checked but I left it unchecked to find out later). After that go to com port tab, and click add new port ie selected COM0.
Then go back to TT6 (restarted in my case), and to other bluetooth gps receiver then found COM 0 in there. Voila!!
Chose COM0, but still got no gps device message. Waited for about 2 mins while reading further into the posts and now my TT6 is working.
You could call that strike of luck I dont really care but yeah.. saving some batt power on my kaiser for the bank holiday;s trip. Have a great one everyone!!
P/s: Mine is O2 stellar on Dutty's great work.
Com 4 is the only one that works with Schaps 3.54

Universal + BlueTooth GPS problem, help

Dear Htc fellows,
My bluetooth GPS is working strange on my Universal, but on iPaq with
WM2003 works as a charm. The BT GPS is new Solar GPS with new Mediatek
chipset.
It's not working with iGo 2006 and even not Tomtom 5 or Tomtom 6.
I can find the BT GPS in BT manager, I can pair it, but I dont know why,
it needs a pass key even if it shouldn't. Then when I explore it's
services, The popup come again asking me if I will allow external BT
device to connect to my Universal and it come asking passkey again (Why?).
I can't even enter an empty passkey (bt device doesen't require it). After that I have successfully paired the device. I can add it's serial port to enumerate on com ports 8 or 4.
When I start Tomtom, it doesent detect the device at all. If I use iGo, it detects, gets datas and disappear, it's allways appeared for 1 second and then 5 seconds not. No matter Which bitrate I set (device is written to be 9600) it needs to be in NMEA protocol, not SIRF.
When I use some freeware GPS programs, it seams to be working ok, it shows satelites and it's not disappearing.
What can I do with that???
I have some idea that it's probably about WM5 and it's security....
How can I setup com security in registry? can I set the port speads manually atd... I had performed a hard reset and it still don't work. Can ROM update or AKU update help me?
Does anyone have some idea what should I try now?

Could you find a solution??
Hi,
I have the same problem exactly and could not find anything on the net. Did you solve your problem?
well ...
i know that there is a problem with GPS and WM5 and so there is this patch which i install every time i hard reset .....
the guys i bought MY GPS from gave me this ... and they are pretty knowledgable .....
it works well ....
try it !
tried
My OS version is WM2003 but tried anyway.. Did not work.. can there be version for WM2003??
did you ?
did you define an outgoing com port for the device (com 4 for example ?)
com port definition
well, igo finds the device an COM 6 actually, it connects too.. but stays connected just for a second, then again and again..
I installed GPSGate and created a virtual com port 7. I manually configured the GPS receiver connection to COM 7 on igo.. But all the same.. :
do you advice another way?
one other thing the device works with navigon 5.0 and tomtom 6.0 smoothly, no problem.. only igo..
well...
IGO is CRAP ... that is well known .... lots of bugs ...
i am sorry .. i do not know how to solve your problem...
but i suggest using destinator 6 ..... (that's what i use) ....
simple ... nice looking .... big buttons and able to navigate to your contacts directly (especially useful if you have Phone Edition)
oh ... and ... works great !
I got the Holux GPSlim 236 GPS. I can pair the GPS with Universial. But I cannot set the com port at all. A pop up window always say the com port (I tried everyone of the ports) is not available.
Any one got a solution, does the GPS bug fix help ? and what does it fix ?
Might seem a bit obvious, but have you tried the code "0000" when pairing your device?
Once paired...did you define an outgoing serial port on "Bluetooth Settings" menu on your WinCE?
I have a royaltek bluetooth GPS and it's been working well with TomTom[5|6]...I use '0000' as passkey (default on many 'non-interactive' devices), once paired I clicked on 'COM Ports' tab and defined a new outgoing port, the wizard should list the GPS as an available device to create a COM port so I used it and I got a 'com0'.
Once the outgoing port was created I had to tell TomTom to use the new 'com0' and worked like a charm
It's been working since TomTom 5.21 (previous versions didn't work).
