Which version TCPMP for wizard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
Can anyone tell me which version tcpmp i install on the wizard please. There is the normal tcpmp.setup.0.71.exe and there is the tcpmp.smartphone.0.71.exe version.
thanks

Wizard is a pda. Use tcpmp.setup.0.71.exe.

thanks,
loaded it and was not impressed with the perfomance! From the settings page, general. heres what it displays:
language: english
platform: pocket pc
OS Version: 5.01
OEM info: HTC
Processor: Arm926E
Clock speed: 170Mhz
!!!!! what happened to the 200mhz OMAP processor? I played a mpg video at avg speed 52.9%
vid frames 934
frame rate: 13.18
361kbit/s (orig 682kbit/s)
i only have spb gprs monitor installed and dont see why the performance is so slow!

tcpmp
yeah i get 170MHz too. and video playback is okay, but not very fast at all.
i was hoping to have better video playback from TCPMP.
Windows Media Player is always jerky on my kjam when streaming from a website no matter what the quality of the video.

Unfortuantly TCMP doesn't appear to make use of the 2D accelleration hardware on the Wizards OMAP cpu. Apparntly Ti are a little bit shy when it comes to providing the information nessecery for the TCMP developers need to impliment support. An alternative would be a display driver for the wizard that impliemented direct-X (TCMP can make use of direcet X acceleration I belvie) but i don't imagine this happening any time soon!

I've been through all this.....take a look at this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33030&highlight=

Yeah, so, it'll do ok if you play content encoded at QVGA or lower. But I have loads of 700 mb Div-x's that are mostly almost VGA. These play back fine on my Axim X50v but not on the Wizard. Obviosuly the wizard is much slower but I can't help bu think that leveraging the 2D accell hardware would help!

Sorry for the newbie question but can someone explain the differences on an exe install and a cab install?
And, how to do a cab install step by step.
thanks,

Mogwai - exe typically run on your desktop pc and install over activesync to your ppc. cabs typically are copied ot your ppc and run on it directly (launched using the file browser).
You might read up a bit on how to start new topics in forums as well - what you're doing is posting 'off topic'

TCPMP version and...

I've a HTC Universal  since a week,...my first pda was a 9090, now with WM5 wich is the best video player? and which version shoud I download to obtain the maximum from my device?
Andrea
I'm using the latest TCPMP version and it plays Videos very fine. Just make sure to try the different video drivers within TCPMP to see which one perfoms better for your needs. You may test the performance with the "benchmark" command in TCPMP.
For me, the "raw framebuffer" seems to be the best one (benchmark is about 200%). The default "DirectDraw" setting is a bit slower (~150%) on my JasJar.
.ox
Which version 0.71 or 0.72? which file should I install???
Thanks a lot
Andrea

coreplayer 1.04 - still no good 4 ATI :(

I've heard that there's a new version of core player. it's 1.04
anyone tried or got info if it's tytn friendly now?
br
ok... never mind. I came back home and check coreplayer forums - many improvements, but still NO support for ATI chipset in tytn... crap.
You can lock or trash this pointless topic now mods... cheers
And what about Pause/Play issue?
Does this version fix freezes after Pause?
Coreplayer 1.1 is supposed to have the Tytn support...
Can anyone confirm this?
Later, Lew
On my spvm3100, once you open it and close...than I can't restart it but if I make a Soft Reset...did someone have the same problem?
I have installed it on microSD.

i dont have this problem.
do you have any trouble watching movies?
It isn't still supported yet and don't know in wich version it will supported.
They asked ATI info about the chip and guess they haven't get enough info from them to resolve it.
If they ever will resolve the problem!
I use coreplayer with raw frame buffer settings and then it work for 50%.
Also i'm still waiting for a full working coreplayer.
I'm using version 1.04 with RAW FrameBuffer, and on newest WM5 (south africa ROM) it works good. No scattered music when you pause and play again. Seems to work good, but still no Imageon support
on my hermes it s work when i use spb DVD to convert my avi files or dvd...
but always when video is not on "ati" but rawbuffer
I am using Dopod U1000 and the coreplayer 1.04 is worst
on ATI Chips. Wind EFFECT on the screen and only 50% speed on 640x480 DivX movide
See this thread. Coreplayer works perfectly on ATI imageon now for me (using WMXL v0.20.1)

slingplayer performance

I am sure anyone who has had experience of it will agree slingplayer is one of the best applications for a pocket pc.
However on the Ameo, which is the variant I have, its performance is a lot to be desired. Whether I use it on the wifi or HSDPA it seems to be jerky all the time (not a very good user experience). The stats say the 300kb/s to 400kb/s is being achieved but the frame rate doesn’t go much above 10 (is it the darn video driver again?). The settings i use are:
Enable slingstream optimization
High action
video resolution : 320 by 240
audio : mono low
Managed to borrow a dell Axim X51 (qVGA screen, 412Mhz version) the other day, and tested its slingplayer performance and frankly was amazed at the difference. It was managing 30 frames per second and was super smooth whether portrait or landscape (same slingplayer settings by the way).
Ameo has the same processor as the Dell only faster, different graphics chip though.
Is it because Dell has a proper video driver or the fact that it is only a qVGA resolution i.e. 4 times less area to display. You will note that best performing devices as far as SPB graphics benchmark are qVGA.
I have read on threads people being pretty happy with slingplayer performance but that’s a subjective statement.
Could people who have used slingplayer on any variant of the athena, i.e. advantage X7500, X7501, dopod 1000 etc. state the frame rate and the bandwidth they are achieving (either cellular or wifi connection) so we can narrow down the problem.
1) Lack of proper ATI driver on all or some of the athena variants.
2) VGA screen taxing the processor too much (shouldn't be as the slingplayer application is still trying to display qVGA resolution, assuming 4 pixels displaying the same image is less strenuous on the processor than displaying 4 distinct images)
3) Some other reason such as splingplayer not optimized for the ATI chip?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated
I tried this last night and I am getting 10-15fps whether connected to my wi-fi network or via 3G and my vid is jerky as well. Disappointing but hopefully will get better... I am using the default settings (slingstream optimization and medium action).
EDIT: FWIW, the Axim x51v is VGA 640x480...
EDIT2: My bandwidth is 200-300kbps whether connected to wi-fi or 3G.
assuming you guys are using win media player to play the videos, you are probably running into the same issues I had trying to stream from ORB to my ameo, the fix was to use the windows mobile 5 (windows media video 9) codecs for windows media player ! simply unpack the attached files and copy into your windows folder then reboot.
apperntly there is an issue with the Windows media video 10 codecs supplied with win mobile 6 !

The slingplayer mobile application is self contained (no WMP involved) and plays live streaming video only...
same problem here

The reason is that SlingMobile is using DirectDraw. The DDraw API on WM is slooooow. Thats the reason players like PocketTV or TCPMP went out of their way to code driver support for GPUs
The X7501 def has the ATI Imageon drivers there (I pointed this out on another thread), but it doesnt matter much. DDRaw+ATI=slow. DDRaw+Intel 2700=not TOO bad (hence the X51V working)
Basically, every PPC ever made from the Axim X51V forward should have had the Intel 2700. That they didnt has crippled the platform when it comes to video. The Imageon has potential, but ATI seems very hard to work with and getting it optimized is NOT easy.
The Marvell may save this situation if devs can start to take full advantage of WMMX2. Early reports show that with straight DDRaw, the Marvell proc alone is STILL not up to Intel 2700 standards, but Id bet that with direct WMMX2 enhanced code, it would be.
you can increase the buffer, but you have to do it in the registry, once you change it you cant go back into settings and change anything without changing the buffer back to 4 seconds
hklm\software\sling media\slingplayer\player
precharge duration = 10000
the 10000 in milliseconds
Thanks for the comments.
So it seems that the only hope is if an update of the slingplayer software decides to use the ATI Imageon driver.
Just to clear something up, the Dell I used was a X51 (320 by 240) and NOT a X51V (which is 640 by 480)
Is it possible to get the slingplayer to use the ATI driver using a registry tweak??
I would assume if they had developed ATI support they'd expose it. It may be possible that there is some undocumented dedicated support for the Imageon, but I havent seen anything.
I have just got my slingbox this week and I liked the idea of been able to watch my sky+ recordings, but playback via 3g is watchable but only about 15 fps , there is no improvement using wifi? However my cctv camera works smooth and looks great- possibly becouse its a black and white camera?
As a previous poster said orb works very good playing back full size divx from my home pc via either wmp or tcpmp without problems over 3g? but orb requires the pc to be on all the time, which is why I got the slingbox.
I just hope someone with more skill and knowlage than myself can sort a solution
Sling has released a new version of their mobile player that uses GDI instead of DirectDraw. Has anyone tried this on their Athena to see if it improves performance?

I tried GDI but the frame rate dropped off significantly.
There are 3 major problems with SlingPlayer on the Athena. As said before, it does not use the ATI video driver. But also the maximum supported resolution is only 320x240 and the maximum bit rate is only 600kbs. So it's never going to look as good as TCPMP for example.
The best setting to change to make SlingPlayer watchable is to specifically set the video bit rate to 600kbs. Unless this is done, the SlingPlayer never seems to use more than 300kbs and the result is very poor video. With 600kbs bit rate and 320x240 resolution, I get about 15fps on average. If I drop the resolution to 224x176 I get nearly 30fps.
My Slingbox video stream is 77kbs
I hope any body can help me with this issue.
I have my slingbox set in NY,USA, and I'm now in Bahrain my internet provider speed is 2mbs download/ 512 kbs, and the internet provider in NY is verizon at 6mbs/ 760kbs upload.
However, every time I start my sling box on my laptop (Dell D610), the video optimization start at 600-700 kbs and end up in 2 min in 77 kbs and stop there.
I don't know, if this is something has to do with the setup or what exactly...?
Can any body help me with that??
Thanks
Are you saying you have a problem using your slingbox on your Athena or your laptop? If your laptop then you are posting in the wrong place!
anyone figure out the optimal settings for our athena's to get buffering/playback more manageable?

Smooth video viewing possible? (h2.64)

Heya folks, i am wondering if it is possible on TCPMP to view a hi res video smoothly, i first got the H2.64 format invalid error but shortly after fixed that with the TCPMP ffmpeg addon but now the video i want to watch doesnt run smoothly,
anyone have any ideas how to set it up and if so if they are willing to provide the presets
Cheers everyone
exemike
Sorry title error, i meant to say H.264 =)
OK
MAKE AN OVERCLOCK! TO 260MHZ With Batterystatus or Omapclockplus
i dont think that will work, i tried a h.264 video on my exe aswell and it was just as slow.
maybe i need to convert the video

That's exactly what you should do.
I use a nice freeware conversion tool for WinXP called SUPER, which converts videos to a specific compression of AVI that's optimized for Pocket PC. Just select "AVI (for Pocket PC)" as the output container, and bob's your uncle. Works great: is formatted to fit the screen correctly, and goes into full screen mode flawlessly. You can even strip the audio tracks from strictly visual media (your p*rn, for example...)
Now, sure, you're going to lose some resolution, but you had to know that was going to happen anyways viewing it on a 320x240px screen, right?
Download SUPER
YES

Yep the super converter is SUUUUPER!!!! i use it too... and can recomend to you the AVI format our devices can view smothly without overclock a video at lest 230 mbps.
thank you very much guys, I really am enjoying this wizard very much and having it play videos just makes it so much better
now I just have to read the big book on how to upgrade to wm6
thanks again guys,
exemike
Youre welcome men
Be sure to read evrything!!!! and ask somuch more ok?
Its our pleassure to give you the needed info about what you will do.
hehe thanks q will bear that in mind and be sure that I will have lots of questions, after all like I said for a device growing in age it really is brilliant.
The Guide
Well people you have all read the threads so i thought i would translate everything to one simple guide.
First of all, this should hopefully work for most Htc's out there (from what i've read and understand anyway)
Second First of all
You should download the program (Freeware) TCPMP, which can be downloaded at the provided link.
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/
Personally i downloaded the 0.72RC1 but any of the versions should work farely well.
Secondly you should take the time to download some of the additional plugins for the player, commonly for the program we will be using, the ffmpeg plugin i think is suggested but also the avc and aac video and audio codecs from another site i have provided.
Aditional Plugins
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/
This is the AVC and AAC codecs, commonly used for H.264 videos, although the wizard struggles with really high quality videos sometimes may be worth overclocking to get the performance you want
http://www.box.net/public/gk97uv7x1o
Addons worth having for sure though
Next you will need to download a program, yes another magnificent piece of freeware known as Super
http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe
When the installation is complete, run it, install it, and open it up, from there
When you run the program for the first time, one main menu will setup, the base of the program, now im sure on first sight its like lots of new buttons to press, well its not really that, all you need to do is set where you see (1) and the formats for the output container, just selec avi for Pocket pc, immediately, pocket pc res and settings are loaded.
The settings i am using for my MDA Vario (HTC Wizard) are 320:240 video scale, 4:3 aspect, 25fps, a bitrate of 128 and hi quality + 48k audio for the video options,
for audio i am using a frequency of 22050, 2 channel, 48kbps bitrate and default dvd language select.
further towards the bottom of super you will see what looks to be an input box, anywhere within the white area right click and select add media, add your video (any video you like) and hit ok, the file should input itself, and there should be a checkbox under the active colum, tick it and then further down the program hit encode, wallah, your video should encode perfectly for your wizard, heck you can try other presets to differ your performance.
Open the vid in TCPMP and it should happily play.
For youtube videos etc, there are altho online + downloadable programs to convert to different programs for youtube directly.
http://www.vixy.net/
This is the program with the installable converter, it is freeware but expires every so many months, but its always put back up for download again, dont know why they do that really but it is a good program.
Another program which is reliable online and has lots of options is
http://mediaconverter.org/
Hope this guide helps newcommers someone.
Thanks to Q and Myrd for the information =)
Sweet
I use Lathe 1.5, been using it for almost 2yrs
Works great

One more thing would help me pretty much. Could you add which video (h.264 / h.263 / h.262 / xvid / mpeg4 / msmpeg4 / ...) and audio (mp3 / aac / wma / ...) codecs you're using?

[Q] Playing videos on unmodded SPV M5000?

Hi all,
First Noobie-Noob question from me, although I'm hoping it's both relevant and of interest as I couldn't find a single mention of this particular topic...
There's a few threads about replacement media players and associated custom video conversion configurations... but is there any specific configuration to enable smooth 640x480 video under the factory standard WMPlayer?
I know I the best answer would be to flash the ROM and install a load of other software - Not only am I brand new to this, but I'm currently struggling just to figure out why Buzzdev's 'Universal SIM Unlocker' won't work on my SPV M5000. Until I get that sorted, flash the ROM and install TCPMP, I'm stuck with seeing what I can get from an otherwise phoneless unmodded factory-standard brick (nothing like a challenge, eh!).
Currently, I'm running Win-7 64-bit Ultimate on my PC and using the latest version of Windows Movie Maker to convert my video clips, which are then played on the standard WMPlayer from a 2gb SD card (I know, I know).
WMM has a pre-set 'PocketPC' configuration that runs fine on my unmodded Qtek 9100 - 240x320 at 15fps, perfectly smooth even from the SD card and takes up <200mb per file!
However, using 'PocketPC' configuration on the unmodded SPV M5000 the audio is fine but picture is very choppy and juddery, as if the fps is too low.
Clips run smoothly if I set up a custom configuration to 15fps for 464x288 at 490kbps, but they still leave wasted screen space.
So, my question - Can anyone tell me please, how to set up video conversion to the full 640x480 while remaining smooth on the WMPlayer playback and, if possible, *why* their solution works where my other attempts have failed?
Both devices have 64mb RAM and 128mb ROM (with about the same volume accessible on each), but the M5000 has 520mHz, compared to the 195mHz of the 9100.
Both have been stripped of unnessesary processes as far as I can manage from the FAQs here and the M5000 has almost 30mb of free program memory next to the 24mb on the 9100 (not sure why the unit with faster processor is so much slower and laggy, though).
Is it the fps, or the kbps that I'm getting wrong?
Is there a ratio or something for the different resolutions?
I know the resolution should be exactly divisible by 16, but I don't know if there's a correlation with the kbps...?
I also know that playing direct from the SD card is supposed to cause lag, which it does as far as control responses go, but playback on the 9100 is always seamless.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks for your time,
Dylan.
Hmmm... Didn't manage to find a decent solution.
Did manage to flash ROM to Tomal's rather funky v8.9 and TCPMP seems to run AVIs well enough without any conversion. Slightly stuttery, but miles better than what I have been getting. Even the screen size is pretty good.
