Is there anyway to accept the suggested words as you type via the slideout keyboard without having to use the stylus to actually tap on the screen?
There are two ways I know of:
1. press the D-pad down to highlight the word you want and then the middle button to select
2. use the down arrow to highlight and then the enter key to select
FYI - In case you didn't know, tweaks2k2 has a registry tweak that allows for six suggested words to come up -- makes the feature quite a bit more helpful. I am sure you could find the registry hack yourself but why bother.
Hope this helps.
Thanks - i think the default 4 will suffice.

I was thinking it would be nice if there was someway to select text using the keyboard (like on a desktop PC) and lo and behold if you hold the Shift (Caps) key down and use the arrow keys it does select text.
Hurrah!
genius!
There's a great guy, Tom_Hiro255, who made this app http://www.nicque.com/PQz/ that allows you to use shortcuts and all sorts of other functions, check it out.
The post is, I believe, either in Universal or Blue Angel...it works on wm5.
Awsome tip. =)
Perhaps this works for you?
Double tap the SHIFT key on the SIP keyboard
Does not work for every app.
Also found ShiftLock values in two SIP modes.
But I don't think they make a difference.
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}]
"ShiftLock"=dword:1
"KBMode"=dword:5
@="Keyboard"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42429690-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}]
"ShiftLock"=dword:0
"Desc"="With Letter Recognizer you can input natural character strokes as well as strokes you may have learned using Jot® from CIC."
"Accents"=dword:0
@="Letter Recognizer"
Cheers
I love the 8125 with the exception of two features, both involving the keyboard.
1. Is there anyway to increase the time that the keyboard backlight stays on? And also, to turn the keyboard backlight on as soon as you open it?
Whenever I slide the keyboard out it's a little difficult to see what's on all the keys, as the characters are a light color and they are on a light-colored background. After you start typing the backlight comes on, but you need to tap one key to get it to light up in the first place. Is there a tweak to have the keyboard light come on when you slide it out? Without having to tap a key? And once it's on, can I edit a setting or reg key to have it stay on until I slide it back in?
2. If you'll notice, the first letter typed will always capitalize as soon as you tap the spacebar after completing the first typed word. This can be nice at times if you're typing in a Word document or something similar. However, typing passwords has become downright frustrating! You definitely do NOT want any letters capitalized when you're typing in a password. Plus the fact that all passwords show only as asterisks when typing them makes the auto-capitalizion hurt more than help. I always have to switch to the SIP when typing in passwords, as I get way too many "incorrect password" popups due, I'm certain, to the capitalization issue. Then, of course, changing to number mode (double-tap the round red dot key)can also be hairy when all you see are asterisks - It's difficult to know whether or not the mode changed when you try to reverse the numbers mode.
I've searched here and on the HoFo site to no avail.
Any help or advice is appreciated!
In addition to the above, I'd like to know how to accept an autocompletion suggestion from the keyboard, i.e. without using the stylus.

Hit arrow key down and then the enter key. As for part two of J-Mac's post, if you're in a program that has a soft key bar at the bottom this simple registry edit will give a hand Caps/Function indicator:
Keyboard status indicator – adds a handy indicator that shows you when caps lock and symbol lock are activated on your keyboard.
Use Total Commander to navigate to \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keyb
Create a new entry with the name EnableIndicator
Assign the new entry a DWORD value of 1
perform a soft reset
and auto-capitalization can be changed by going to the Input control panel applet, it's on the Options tab "Capitalize beginning of sentence" or somesuch
As for keyboard backlight - no hacks known of for the Wizard :|

Thanks for that - obvious when you know how!
Thanks for the keyboard indicators - very helpful.
Zeboxx, I already set that option, but it appears to only apply to the SIP - not the physical keyboard.

Great tips, BoycottValvoline! Indicator is working fine. That's a big help.
I don't know of anyone who has managed to come up with a way to extend the keyboard backlight, though.I can't find a registry key that addresses the backlight - doesn't appear to be one.

I've done this on my 8125 and I get no indicator when I use the hardware keyboard.
Any help, anyone?
Thanks.
I have an 8125 and it worked fine for me.
Take another look and make sure that you entered everything exactly as shown. You'd be surprised how easy it is to be off.
For example, check Start>Settings>Personal>Input>Word Completion and make sure that "Add a space after suggested word" is NOT selected. (If it is, you may be adding a space after the DWORD value without knowing it).
Plus check your spelling - Case and punctuation must be perfect when creating the registry key.
Finally, perform a soft reset afterwards. Now check the bottom of the screen when the hardware keyboard is slid out. (Make sure first that you have a program open that requires the keyboard.) Try hitting the shift key once, then twice. Same with the Function key. Once, then twice.
Once on, the Shift key shows a "C" and makes shift active for one keystroke. Double tap it and CAPS mode is on and the "C" stays there till you tap it twice again.
Function key works the same, but you'll see a solid dot instead of a "C".
Has anyone resolved the problem with making the backlight time stay on longer?

I haven't tried it, but I found this registry key on another site:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout
It should be the number of seconds to stay on. Try 30.
Nah, that's on a few sites - but it doesn't work on the Wizard.
It's a hardware issue; no registry fix can do it on the Wizard.

If it's an .exe file, you have to install from your desktop through Active Sync. If it's a .cab file, just drag and drop it to your phone the Active Sync's "Explore" option.
Then, navigate to the file on your phone and tap it to begin the installation.
Backlight duration
Sorry to teel you guys , but the keypad backlight duration on the wizard is hardware controlled ! ! ! So no software / registry hack will lengthen / shorten the duration !
Hi, does anyone know how to select the predictive text that pops up whilst typing from the hardware keyboard on the Wizard?
At the moment I can seemingly only select it by click on the screen with the stylus, which is rather inconvienient when thumb typing.
I have scoured the posts for a mention of this but to no avail, so apologies is this is a regular!
Thanks.
I did it once by accident and forget the key stroke. But I am thinking it was either a press of the tab key or the down arrow to get into the matching word list, then an enter to select the word...
Other things I found.
Pressing the red dot twice will lock the keyboard in this mode, two preses gets it unlocked. Good for entering a string of numbers.
Same pressing twice of the shift key will shift lock the keyboard. Same deal pressing twice unlocks.
You simply press the down arrow to select the word then enter? Does that not work? I seem to remember that being how it was done but I've had PT off for a while now...
That's the one!
Much obliged.
Does anyone know how to disable the predictive test? I find it more anoying than anything else.

Start -> Settings -> Input -> Word Completion -> Untick "Suggest words..."
Simple.
Just look around all the other apps in Settings, you might learn a thing or ten
Does anyone know how to delete suggestions that come up? I have noticed that too often mispelled suggestions come up with predictive text, which I think "learns" from typos that I too often make.

User suggested words dictionary
In addition to the system dictionaries for the suggested words, there is also a user-defined one, compiled by Windows Mobile dynamically. The location of this file is in: "\Windows\dyncompdict.dat". This file can safely be deleted. Editing the contents of this file is more difficul, please see the following for a useful application to generate a new one:

I have a Diamond with BsB6.5Q ROM.
Hi there, don't know if this is a ROM issue or a WM6.5 issue. I use the Compact QWERTY that is supplied in this ROM - I prefer to use the "phone keypad" style of keyboard. As I do 95% of my texts in the native Welsh language, I keep T9 switched off (there is no such feature in Welsh). However, when I write a text message in Welsh sometimes the spacebar won't work - it simply won't let me put a space there - I have to press 'enter' then 'backspace' to remove the restriction. This is not a screen sensitivity issue, because the 'shadow' appears above the spacebar to signify that it has been pressed. This problem doesn't arise when writing English texts, so I'm assuming that the problem occurs because the phone is trying to be clever and trying to predict that there shouldn't be a space after a certain letter.
I've looked through the settings and I can't find anything to switch this off. Any ideas?
Also, when writing, I would really like to be able to move the cursor backwards and forwards through the text, say if I want to correct an earlier error. Having to press the desired location with my finger is not good enough, because I need three or four attempts to get it right due to being the owner of a large thumb. I was then thinking about the Diamond's scroll wheel - this would be ideal for the job. Is there any way use that to scroll, i.e. anti-clockwise to move cursor to the left, clockwise to move right?
Thanks
Right, please ignore my last paragraph above - I completely forgot about the up/down/left/right buttons around the scroll wheel. The Left/Right buttons do exactly what I want.
Now, all I want is a fix for my keyboard problem (1st paragraph). It only happens for some words, and when it happens I cannot type any of the punctuation characters - I can only continue typing letters. Also when this happens the word (or most of it) is underlined. I don't understand why the word that's currently being typed would need to be underlined. It seems like parts of T9 is still on, even in ABC mode.
Any ideas?
Hi All
Bit of a silly problem this.
I flashed my HTC HD2 with a Windows embedded handheld ROM a couple of years ago. I haven't used this phone for ages and have no idea which ROM I flashed.
Anyway, it all worked fine until one day, I found I was using the compact keyboard (2 letters / key) and I cant find a way to get rid of it and return to the normal keyboard)
IIRC originally there was an input selector icon below the keyboard. But on this ROM all I get below the keyboard are
Windows, Done, Keyboard, cancel, OK
I've tried settings>personal>Input where this is an option for phone keypad and compact qwerty but it is not selected and changing it seems to make no difference to the keyboard in use.
Its driving me nuts so can anyone tell me how I get my regular keyboard back?
TFAI
tap & hold perhaps to top of keyboard icon or slightly to left or right perhaps !
If only . . . .!!
I've almost worn a hole in that part of the screen!!
Normally it tap & hold for about half a second slightly to right on the keyboard.
Perhaps try it with keyboard open or closed.
Could also try tap & slide to left on keyboard icon with keyboard open .
If all fails you could do a search for a sip selector tool that can be used for toggling through sips or use sipchange & select sip you want & set delay to 8sec & soft reboot & it should have loaded your chosen sip once booted.

Tap and hold to the right brought up a Text Input settgins window (hopeful but closer examination showed it onoy contained XT9 settings, a tutorial on text input and 'Symbol Lock' + 'Typing Sound'
.
Could also try tap & slide to left on keyboard icon with keyboard open ..

That brought up a single small pane which had 'Touch Input' and a green circle.
Then touch and hold that made it go away
Then touch to the left of the keyboard icon produced the desired menu !!
I mean WoW, how is anyine supposed to work that out!!!
Anyway I donwloaded the cab in case I get stuck again
Thanks for the advice
Glad you worked it out :-S
Is a bit out of the usual on your ROM.
Really needed a more detailed sip icon so was intuitive of left/right tap zones :-/
Most proper roms have htc ezsip built in which also can have a shortcut in programs for activating a full sip selection menu.
if you decide you want a change/improvement I would recommend the NRG custom ROM, link below should you ever want try it.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/bhh47jlowm9zph6/Energy.Leo.23699.Sense2.5.Reference.Nov.24.7z
Another one I remembered for sip selection was vjsipswitch.
this pops up a sip menu from shortcut in programs, you can also make advanced shortcuts to select specific sip or have toggle effect
