Best you check www.o2.co.uk/nus for no other retailers would be doing a betther deal on a trariff that low.
I suggest you check the 3G online deal as well. 1MB data is standard in the 3G deal and I think you can purchase a data5 bolts on for £9.50 a month.

Not sure about the best deal, but I know where the worst deal is. The JasJar (SIM free) has gone from £635 to £699 in two weeks at www.expansys.com - perhaps there will be a shortage of Universals for a while?

I just bought the 12month O2500 - 500 minutes/100texts/5Mb data for £35 a month - and 6 months of 1000 minutes and doubel texts.
I'm happy.
I'll probably need a data bundle, but it's WiFi, so perhaps not the size I originally thought.

SMS recvd from O2: GPRS charging from 31st March

I've just received a text message from O2:
"We hope you enjoyed the mobile internet free promo. Charging begins from 31Mar but remember it is only £3/MB inc VAT. For money saving Bolt Ons see o2.co.uk"
Like many others, I've had the 'Welcome browse and email' item on my bills for the last few months, and never been charged for GPRS.
I guess all good things come to an end... ?

Could you post what type of contract/PAYG rate you are on.

I know - I wish they would do something about that. If I were PAYG, I could buy a bolt on to make it cheaper, but as a contract customer, there doesn't seem to be a lot I can do about it.
Cheers,
Steve.
I am being charged for GPRS on Data 5. I did for a few weeks get it free but then got charged. I am now limited to my 5MB a month which sucks. I have been in contact with o2 and they have told me that there has been no free mobile web deal. Now they have sent a text saying it's stopping. Should I be getting free GPRS until March 31st?
Euan
I'm with O2 on the Carphone Warehouse and they charge £2.38 per MB I had quite a heated discussion with one of their CS people who seemed to think I was getting a good deal. Needless to say I somehow didn't agree with him.
I'm on the £35 a month tarrif with 200 mins and 100 text.

Even if you're a low user, the £8/5Mb bunlde with £1 per Meg after that is better than £3 per meg.
I just got the dreaded message as well. I'm on Online 200.
Not got a message myself, but my mate even got a phone call last night from customer services telling him the same.
I just got this message at lunchtime today... Bastards! :?

Yeah, but as far as I can see - once you are on a tarrif where they try and charge £3/Mb there's no mechanism of getting any bolt ons or anything (unlike PAYG).

I am starting to think PAYG is the way to go for data
How frustrating that Orange will let me have unlimited GPRS (not 3g) for £1 per day - but are not prepared to let me have anywhere near as good a "bolt on" on my contract with them
How long before we catch up with the rest of the world and offer a flat rate (at a reasonable price ) ?
Yeah, buy a PAYG SIM for your Exec and use a real phone (that won't let you down by not ringing or whatever )as a phone!
riite got the message today, I got my exec out of the o2 shop free on £45 a month, 400min 100 txts, (double for the first 6 months) been with the contract from 24th of december, I think that if we could play with settings or just wait it out they will do the deal again in a couple of months, they usually do

I called, and asked, and they told me that there was no way I could purchase any cheaper data allowance on my O2 Online 200 tariff. It's possible that I got through to somebody who didn't know what they were talking about - it's happened before.

I have already looked into this. The best bundle we can buy is £5 per month for 4 extra MB's if you want one of the special data tariff's (eg £18.50 for 75 MB's per month) you will have to phone up pretend to be a business and get an additional sim with that Data bundle on it, then you need to get a dual sim holder and switch beteween the 2 every time you want to use data or make a call.
ok, a fiver a month is a good deal - what is it you ask for then? As I said, when I called, I was told there wasn't anything I could have, and that Bolt Ons were only for PAYGO customers.
Cheers,
Steve.

Hero on Orange T-mobile UK

Anyone got any price / tariffs for the hero on these networks?
Let's be honest, an educated guess is going to be pretty near the money.
I would imagine free to buy on a 40/month for 24 months.
60 quid to buy on a 40/month for 18 months
120 quid to buy on a 40/month for 12 months
170 quid to buy for a 30/month for 12 months.
I bet those are pretty close to the actual numbers. I have done no real analysis so take the numbers as pure conjecture but they are bound to be close.
If you Google the hero then you do get a number of 3rd party sites which give details of the tarrifs.
e.g. http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobi...unt/85,13642?gclid=CMOQz7-z4JsCFZ4A4wodDTsOAA
Dont quote me on the validity of this site as I just took it from a Google search.

how do you know? where has this been confirmed? SOURCE? Im gonna burst if this is true!
Orange HQ definitely have stock of the Hero, but the retails shops don't (yet).
I phoned in about 2 weeks ago, and asked to be notified when the handset was available. I've just had a call back, and mine is out for delivery tomorrow.
Got a stunning deal as well. Was offered the following two tariffs:
Free Hero, 12 month contract, 600 minutes, 500 texts, 200 landline - £37.19/month
Free Hero, 18 month contract, 900 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited landline - £34.26/month
Those prices include VAT and two months free internet. Internet is a £5/month bolt on after that.
Went for the 12 month deal, as I hate to be tied in for too long.
By my reckoning, I'll be paying £446.19 over 12 months, which seems pretty good given that the handset is £399.
I phoned my local Orange shop, and they can't get anywhere close to that deal. On their price book, a free Hero was only available on a £40/month, 24 month contract. Expansys could match the monthly price, but not the number of minutes, and it would have been on T-Mobile as well (the handset would been SIM free, though). As I'm not a fan of white phones, I went with Orange.
Bagpuss.
There is a issue with the database so cant get one just yet just try later
Sorted - Orange just rang back and I should have mine with in 3 days? but should be tomorrow.
Tariff Details - Panther 45 (1200Mins, Unlimited Text and 500MB data) with £5 web save and 25% discount for 18 month contract. So about £27 per month (NICE)

You are one of the lucky ones. When I was with Orange and had "Unlimited" data, I went over 500mb one month and they charged me. When querying with them, they advised of the "fair usage policy" which is written into all the terms and conditions and unlimited actually means within reason.

Me too
Great for using the handset as a modem on my MacBook Pro !
Well mine states unlimited data too and unlimited text- each having a limit of 500MB and 3000 txt- all the networks have a similar policy, so its not really unlimited.
All providers states that the allowance does not include the use of the phone for tethering - but this still goes mostly undetected by the provider if you set it up right on the laptop.

Best deal in UK for HD2?

Hi
I am currently trying to find the best deal in the UK for the HD2. I dont really want to pay more than £30 a month, and hence am happy to a point to pay some money upfront.
So far, I think its mobile phones direct, with t-mobile combi 30 with web and walk over 18 months. I just have to pay £54.99 up front plus I can get £30 cashback off topcashback.
I wondered though if anyone gas found a better deal?
I tried o2, and even with a open discount I have through my work, I have to stump up alot of money. Vodafone deals dont seem so great.
Thoughts?
Scott
Im doing expansys and then simplicity, it's cheaper in the end!
Buying direct from T-Mobile may be a good option. I've found that if you ring them up you can usually get better terms than they advertise on their website. I've just ordered an HD2 from them; £36 a month for 18 months, but the phone is free, and that includes 1000 minutes, 500 texts, and their Web'n'walk Plus internet service (which has a 3GB per month limit rather than the standard 1, and permits tethering). If I'd gone with the standard Web'n'walk package I could have got unlimited texts.
And I'm not very good at haggling - you could probably get a better deal than I did!
I'm on an 18 Month contract with o2 35 a month
600 mins
1000 texts
unlimited 3G internet
95 for the phone
@onisuk, was that through the carphone warehouse though?

HD2 available on Virgin Mobile UK

Just in case you hadn't noticed (well I hadn't anyway!) the HD2 is now available on Virgin Mobile in the UK
http://bit.ly/6tBFFr
The deals seem to blow some of the established ones away
Hardly blown away, to get the free phone you need to sign up for a 2 year tariff and the £35, 18 month tariff isn't much better than what I got from O2. Except I got the phone for less than £2 and they want £20.
Still, some good deals on there, especially if they have good stock levels.
Fair comment. I haven't seen that deal on O2.
It's just that I was about to commit to either a £35 18 month contract or £45 12 month (handsets £free - £90). So £25/m (+£80) seems ok.
But as you say, let's see what the stock levels are like.
this IS the best priced company out there, i ordered mine last night.
18 months, virgin £25, 500 mins, unlimited text and internet to 1gb fair usage, phone cost £80 + £5 postage. with this i got 2 months free so £50 because i am a virgin media customer.
you can get £30 cashback through quidco.com or another cashback site.
even the customer service at tmobile couldn't believe it (when i was getting my PAC) and had to go online to check lol.
25*18 = 450 - 50 = 400 + 85 = 485 for 18 months.
that about the same cost if you took this on vodafone through a third party company (dial-a-phone) but here you can port your number (which i think is an important thing).

Any issues with it?
Also, did it come with the case and an SD card?
Thanks.

Hardly a reason to say the Virgin offer isn't a good deal - show me where O2 advertise a HD2 for £2 on a £20 per month contract? I'm going to say that you can't because it was a retention offer which they probably only offered you because you spent £30+ the previous 18 months with O2.
To concentrate on getting a 'free' phone also shows your naivety in thinking - no handset is offered for free as they are all subsidised according to how much you are paying over the term of the contract (it's funny how the handset becomes 'free' when the monthly price is £35+ over 18+ months isn't it?).
The Virgin mobile tarrifs are extremely good value in comparison to everyone else especially when you compare the overall costs. Now if someone can find out if they are sim unlocked directly from Virgin this will become a stonking deal.

I don't think it's way more expensive. In fact I think that it will still be cheaper on Virgin.
How many minutes and texts does your deal come with and what network is it on? Is the Internet "unlimited" on that network and could you please let us know how much you actually paid for the phone? £98, £120, £101?
Thanks.
My deal with T-Mobile was
16GB SD -
£25.00 cashback
Free phone
900 Mins / Unlimited txts and internet
18th Month contract.
£35.00 per month

Virgin Mobile Tariff (best value/cheapest that I can see):
500 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet:
18 months x £25 + £79.99 for handset = £529.99 total cost.
Your tariff:
12 months x £34 + £100-'ish' for handset = £508'ish'
No idea how much 'ish' is and also no idea how many minutes or texts you are getting either for your £508'ish'. Neither can it be said that £22 for 6 extra months usage is 'way more expensive'.
When I was looking for my HD2 I think at the time MobilePhonesDirect were offering the best value for me, can't remember the exact pricing and tariff but overall cost was something in the region of £520 but with only 300 minutes and 200 texts, unlimited data on T-Mobile. That was over a 12 month term I think and also required £102 up front for the handset.
Now considering that the cheapest you're going to get a HD2 outright for is about £450 from Carphonewarehouse (reported by someone, but no idea if it's sim free or not) you can't say that the value of calls/texts/data isn't worth £80? After all, even if you buy the handset outright you've still got to pay for a phone plan of some kind.

You're talking to someone who worked for O2 IT for four years, I'm well aware how this works thanks and that phones are subsidised. And I'd wouldn't say I 'concentrated' on anything, merely talked about something that was relevant.

don't have any any other apps loaded on it yet except for resco explorer and sbp backup.
this is only my 2nd day with it, ordered it online from virgin at about 2:30pm and it was delivered next day by DHL
it was my intention to run the phone "as is" for a while to make sure there are no problems, which means i will not be installing any other software just yet.

any other info you need feel free to ask.
apart from getting used to a (very)sensitive screen compared to my last resistive screen i am still feeling the love for it

this is only my 2nd day with it, ordered it online from virgin at about 2:30pm and it was delivered next day by DHL
it was my intention to run the phone "as is" for a while to make sure there are no problems, which means i will not be installing any other software just yet.
if i download any large files files i will try and time it manually if thats any good to you?
any other info you need feel free to ask.
apart from getting used to a (very)sensitive screen compared to my last resistive screen i am still feeling the love for it

Well, you could try and time it manually or you can use the website: http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed
which should allow you to test the download speed.
The only thing is that I'm not to sure about how accurate it is and their servers seem to be in the USA so that's probably not too good.
I was going to ask about the keyboard but it sounds like it's super sensitive, like others I've tried on the HD2. Can you type on it?
Oh, perhaps you could tell me which ROM version you have and if it came with an SD card and a case (not that I normally use one)?
Thanks.
EDIT: Oh, just saw the ROM in your sig. Did it come with that one?
I was really tempted but then realised you cannot downgrade tariffs at anytime. I personally think going via mobilephonesdirect with topchashback and vf maybe the better option.

Perfect!
My T-Mob contract is up in a week, and Virgin was by far the best deal I could find.
Virgin £25pm 18mths + £79.99phone = £529.99
The closest I can get is:
TMob £22.50pm 18ths + £169.99 = £574.99
Virgin give more 300 more minutes and unlimited texts (versus 200), both having unlimited web. I can't find a better deal really. I would perfer O2, but I can't get anywhere near Virgin for mins/txts and phone price. Closest is £20pm + £7.50Web 18mths + £250 phone, making it £745 in total! And you only get 75 minutes!
I was worried about being locked into operator provided updates only (my Diamond was bought from Expansys, so fully unlocked), but this is great news! Thanks!
Quick question: Do I need my PAC code when I order, or can I do it after ordering? I was able to do so when I moved to T-Mob...
I was close to considering...
Tried to coerce O2 into getting near to the Virgin offer but the best they could offer was £35/month 18 month contract, 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited wi-fi (after I forced the issue) and unlimited internet with £90 for the phone.
Total cost £720 over the life and although Virgin is £190 cheaper I have broadband with O2 so leaving them would increase my monthly payment by £5 and therefore £90 over the life so Virgin only worked out £100 cheaper for me (though I could've got £30 from Quidco).
£100 is a lot of money but I have no experience of Virgin whereas O2 have always been good to me (and normally very generous with my renewals) and I know I get good reception wherever I need it.
Ordered it around 18.45 and supposedly should receive tomorrow according to the email and text they sent me - weather permitting - though I was told Friday by the guy on the phone.

No option for delivery, and doesn't seem to be instock anywhere. I've checked quite a few postcodes and it checks the 10 closest stores.

It's now back to its original price!
Never once saw it available either for delivery or collection at any of the local and nearby stores. Seems like a scam to get you into the shop or something weird?

From their Twitter account:
I am sorry the deal was only on for 1 week and as it was such a good deal we quickly sold out of stock in most areas. It may go down in price again in the future however we are not given any prior knowledge of this. Julie
Hi, I have checked and we we will be getting more stock in of 133/4139 around the 19th January. Julie

Yes, but at the offer price or not? Not much of a bargain otherwise.

Well as she said it's unknown. Seems like a dirty trick to get people visit their site to keep checking stock. I don't believe there ever was even stock of 1 Moto G 16GB. Surely London would have at least some stock if there was stock.
Kept checking Argos website every day and never seen 16 GB in stock. And even now when the price went back up to £169.95 Moto G is out of stock.
I tend to ignore these Argos deals now. It's just a dirty trick to get publicity on Hot UK Deals. These have never been in stock while at this price, just as the LTE Nexus 7 wasn't £269 until it was already out of stock. If you want one of these the bigger Tescos tend to have stock of the 16GB now. For £131 unlocked they're still a bargain.
its definitely a trick Argos do. I've noticed it on all kinds of things they sell, whenever they come up on price match sites, it is ALWAYS out of stock.
Tesco is the best bet, 129 pay and go, and then 2 pound to unlock..

I'm considering picking one up for free* on a Tescomobile contract - £12.50 per month for 500MB data or £15 for 1GB - uses o2 network - o2 would charge me £16 for 750Mb data sim only contract direct through them. Only thing that's making me pause is more expensive data roaming charges with tescomobile.
*not quite free - I'd have to pay £60 to terminate my current o2 sim only contract....

over 12-24 months its nearly always cheaper to buy the handset outright and then go on sim only plan.
Buy the phone, stick with you current sim only contract until it expires (im guessing soon if 60 is the buy out), then move onto Three Mobile.
Just picked up mine today at P4U. The guy told me no 16GB version so I was sad untill he scanned and showed on screen 16GB version. He looked at the box and YES! it was the 16GB version. So paid £169 for phone only (no contract, no PAYGO). And still got free back cover. Happy days (after 2 8GB's).

I'm using mine on OVIVO payg £20 for the SIM £15 you keep credit. You get 200 minutes 300 texts and 500mb every month and you NEVER need to top up again. Ive had it 6 or 7 months and other than buying SIM it's cost nothing!

Ovivo is a one-off charge of £20 for the sim and nothing more to pay, ever. The service is ad-funded. The ads are fairly obtrusive (every 3 pages or so) on your browser but are not tripped on other apps using your data allowance. Downside is that Ovivo piggybacks on Vodaphone so your data availability may be patchy here and there and speeds aren't great. Voice and Text are usually OK pretty much everywhere.
Outside of crazy misprices and huge cashback deals, it is the cheapest deal for low users.
