Yep - not 1.1 or 1.2 - it is the first PDA, and one of the first devices full stop, that has the brand spanking up-to-date version 2.0 of Bluetooth.
If you don't know - BT 2.0 is 3 to 10 times faster (3 - 10 Mbps), uses less power, has no lag when connecting multiple devices and is backwardly compatible with BT 1.0 - 1.2 (proper and smaller stereo headsets will be one advantage of this).
See here for the evidence (from the Bluetooth Qualification website): http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Templa...=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=2740
Excellent, good find!
Says BlueTooth 1.2 here: http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2638
Spoke to I-mate today , they confirm bluetooth 2.0 with Wid instead of Microsft Stack. They also mentioned 3g on the wizard. I guess they ment EDGE.
Oh I really hope it is the Widcomm stack.
Hrm.. annoyingly this says Bluetooth 1.2: http://www.qtek.fi/qtek9100.htm ... though their site says it has a 2.1MP camera in the spec even though the picture says 1.3MP
I can't understand how so many different sites all get the spec wrong and are confusing the consumer. HTC should sort their act out and accurately inform their reseller chain of the correct specs.
so,does bluetooth 2.0(if it really is,not 1.2) means a bluetooth range up to 100 meters?
RAGO
Just to clarify, if you visit http://www.my-xda.com/xdaminis_spec.html O2 themselves say this comes with Bluetooth 2.0

Um... no, it doesn't... sorry... the BT support is lame on the qtek and the range is worthless.

Bluetooth 2.0
This version is backwards compatible with 1.x. The main enhancement is the introduction of Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) of 2.1 Mbit/s. This has the following effects (Bluetooth SIG, 2004):
* 3 times faster transmission speed (up to 10 times in certain cases).
* Lower power consumption through reduced duty cycle.
* Simplification of multi-link scenarios due to more available bandwidth.
* Further improved BER (Bit error rate) performance.

A few comments:
if the chip in the device does not support EDR then it is no better than simple BT v1.2
It might say v2.0 on the box, but if it is not WITH EDR then there is no real advantage over v1.2
I am getting speeds ~50KBytes/sec... anyone can give their speeds?
I've started to consider a Wizard as a WM5 development unit, alongside my Magician, however, there are a couple of questionmarks that I need to straighten out first
One should never look too much at the processor speeds, but the TI OMAP 850, which runs at 200MHz doesn't sound much to the Magicians' 400MHz XScale CPU.
Does anyone have experience from both platforms? Does it "feel" sluggish?
* Audio quality / sound level
I've grown accustomed to quite a nice audio quality, but rather poor sound (phone) level on the Magician. Is this a problem with all HTC units, or is the Wizard an exception?
* Bluetooth stack
Is the A2DP profile available, or are there severe limitations as always with the MS stack? Which profiles are available btw?
* Generic performance
I read about TCPMP lately has been improved giving 100% performance on the TI OMAP 850, but how does other application stack?
I really don't use CPU intensive applications or games, but I still enjoy a fast response from the OS.
* Any minor/major issues?
Are there any kind of issues or annoyances YOU might have found?
Sorry for the lengthy post, but I feel You hacker-type guys are the only people who might help me, since the people selling these are only interested in another sale.
Thank you for your help.
I've not had an HTC phone that had decent phone quality, main issue has always been garbled voice from speaker. Compare it with say something like a mundane SE phone like a T610 or K700i and they are much more 'high fidelity' if you like for in call quality.
Wizard is slower than Magician, but things like not having to rely on backup batteries and WM5 and the ROM/RAM config is the reason. You can tweak it to run about 10-20% quicker though with a little patience. Some good 'hacks' too like accessing the extended ROM and the unlocker both kindly made by developers here.
Most 'issues' are intangible if coming straight to the device from a phone or something, only when you have been using a Blue Angel or Magician that you notice the speed. The offset is the quality feel, WM5 which I find lots better than 2003SE (not everyone agrees) the keyboard, WIFI and Bluetooth 2.
I think you can change the Bluetooth stack, best search the forums for that one.
Those of you who are trying the low and high CPU version, could you verify this?
I believe, they are both technically the same cab file, with the following exceptions:
-There is a difference is the timestamp (only time not date) on the Skype.exe but they are identical in size. (they seem to be built within 34 minutes of each other, on the same day)
-The key HKLM\Software\Skype\Phone\Audio\ DisableCodecs
==>Low CPU version says ILBC (internet Low Bitrate Codec, which is the compression algorithm used by skype, at least on the desktop)
==>High CPU version is blank
I have downloaded and installed the High CPU version (after uninstalling the previous version on which I attempted the same trick and noticed a difference) - I attempted to set it to "PCM" and almost immediately there is an improvement in performance. However, I cannot explain why this is the case as I am uncertain if skype uses any other codec besides iLBC. Also, if I am understanding correctly, the low CPU version just disables the compression but I wonder what codec it then uses.
I am starting wonder how different the two releases really are. Having said that, after applying the 11G tweak with the previous Skype release still on, I managed to have a 3 way conference call on skype but there was a delay in the audio reaching me but everyone could hear me clearly (except for one or two intermittent delays). I am guessing that this would imply that the decoding is either heavy on the processor or not been properly optimized for PPCs.
The only tweaks I have on my Mini S:
-11G tweak
-stop menu animations tweak
-The aforementioned skype trick
I don't have any O2 software installed (btw, I need a Java VM though and am not 100% sure what to do about that) and don't have a mini SD card. I have only installed a theme, Skype (new build for now), Total Commander, have set a custom ringtone, have 2 word documents and some tasks and contacts. That's everything on my mini s.
Skype uses two main codecs - iLBC and iSAC. iSAC is more processor intensive, and rate adapts to the available network bandwidth more effectively using in-band real-time packet messages to throttle the quality up and down. iLBC is less processor intensive, but also has lower quality. My guess is that the high CPU version of Skype is using iSAC as the first Codec of choice. The low CPU version probably only can use iLBC. Skype for the desktop supports these two Codecs, as well as others, and will negotiate with each client it connects to the best possible quality codec.
Frankly even the lowerCPU version swallows letters and the whole words untill I overclock the Wizard upto 230 MHz. I've tested both 1.1.0.15 (from iMate 2.16 ROM) and 2.0 versions.
Hello,
I own a s200 since last week. My first impression:
improved in many ways in comparison to my old Qtek2020 with WM2003
- better usability with WM5 and the additional buttons
- better power management
- better integration of phone (had problems on my old device with missing calls and missing sound at calls)
- size now so small that I can carry it like a normal cellphone
- speed is OK for my purposes (standard programs plus OziExplorer)
- power drain better than with Qtek2020
Not so good:
- sound at phone calls should be louder
- WiFi works good, but range should be larger (my s200 works up to 10m if there is no wall in between)
- small touch screen more difficult to operate (but I prefer a small device, that I can carry all the time)
I think the s200 will very useful for me (it will be my brain extension ...)
Cheers, Gerd

Hi, I'm thinking of buyig a S200, nevertheless I'de like to satisfy some doubts? Is it really as bad as its said with movies and apps like tom tom and route 66? I heard it was slow...
I have the possibility to try it for a few days and then exchange it for a S100 (magician) if I'm not happy with it, but the Wi-Fi is the main reason I'm gonna buy it, so I really need to know...

Try searching the forums for a registry hack, it can be set louder!

Do you use a .G router and do you use maximum power. I use a .G router and I have a connection through walls and everything till about 20 m. My laptop can go further, but still I'm impressed.

No the newest Dopod ROM is fairly fast for everyday uses. For movies I would use some overclocking @240mhz almost everything is as fast as the 416 mhz intel. But for Tomtom that isn't really necessairy, although overclocking will speed up, the starting-up time of the program...
I tried some of the registry hacks regarding the sound level and up to now I don´t found a sufficient setting. But I will invest a little bit more time for playing around.
My WLAN router operates with B/G setting, the s200 with maximum Wifi power. With one wall in between and perhaps 8m distance i got about 20% signal level. But that may be also a problem of my router or the environment.
Are there tools available which show the signal strength of all WLANs around?
Cheers , Gerd
Gerd, you could try Ministumbler from http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/
The PC version has a nice graph showing connection quality, not sure about the Mini version, but give it a try.
I can overclock to 264 or so ..anything over that blows up (slow down)...Id suggest 264 rather than 240..since I beileve 264 is stable anyhow...however, i use a pretty cool custom rom that may have been configured just for that
Sadly I dont agree with screen size being good..its small and as small things go, leaves out lots of functionality..the processor is SLOWER than the HTC Magician according to Microsoft Tech Team..which means...the smaller you go, the diff processor you use (to make it look fast) yet the OS WM5 uses a bit more resources (as expected) and so the new processor is still ****..oh well..size vs. speed.

Hello.
I have a Qtek 9100 and as i have posted in 9100's thread, all HTC new devices and especially 9100 and S200 have crap wifi.
I have tested many many ppc's and ended up that the signal of wifi in S200/9100 is about 50% less than other devices!
S200 - all-in-one
I used to own an AXIM X5 then after 2years X3 with a separate mobile phone, which i carry all the time together.
Yes the S200 is slow but all functionality works fine (wifi,bt,gprs, msoff,,,etc). i cant ask for more for the size of this.
My question is, does anybody here who owns an S200 have tried overclocking it (omapclock), if yes can you please send me the instruction to do this.
thanks in advance.
/gerald
I'm really happy with my S200, contrary to some of you, I have great WiFi reception even trhough walls.
I wardrive a lot and I can connect to hotspots from really far away. I can tell because the SSID broadcast sometimes display the company name and I often realize the building is not near at all.
On the movie watching side, I can see full movies with no OC at all. It really depends on how you encode the movie in the first place.
You'll love it!
Hi
I am Using Schaps WinMob6 with an Motorola S9 over A2DP, as soon as I start streaming the system slows down so bad that it is almost impossible to use!
Is this normal? Anyone using A2DP experiencing the same Problem? What can I do to fix this?
Grüsse,
Chris
i have experienced the same thing no matter when ROM I use. theres not a lot of settings to change so they just sit in a drawer now collecting dust.

I'm experiencing this as well with Schaps ROM. If someone got it to work without problem, please let us know.
Hmm, I don't remember this problem when I was using Schaps ROM... what app are you using to stream. I pretty much solely used Coreplayer 1.1.1 for everything though.
Definitely not having this problem with K's rom which I'm testing now. It works sweet.
If I remember correctly I tried with both WMP and PP with the same result.
I believe A2DP takes a fair amount of CPU power - first the application needs to decode the mp3, then feeds it into the virtual sound device - bluetooth stereo - whose drivers then transcode the sound into something that can fit into Bluetooth's bandwidth. The transcoding has to be done in real-time so it probably has a high priority for CPU time. I don't think I've ever used a ROM where A2DP wouldn't slow down the device, and this includes an Axim x50v @ 624 MHz.
Hi Guys,
I have the feeling that things have gotten a bit better after installing Total Commander!?
Does this make sense?
Using TCPMP with You Tub plugin ( Vids Run great unless A2DP / )

Chris

It IS processor-intensive, particularly on Samsung CPU's, where it can easily eat 50% CPU time. This is why there's so bad a slowdown.
Read my related articles, they're all cross-posted to the Wiki here - I've elaborated a LOT on all these subjects.
mortplayer seems best for me, but yes there's always slowdown, the tcpmp thing; its the only program with which you can watch videos cleanly without skipping/slowdown via a2dp.
Darn
I just upgradet from a Magician in the hope that the Samsung would have more Power, but / On my Magician ther ist almost no Slowdown using A2DP.
Are there any aps where I can OC my Samsung?
Sadly My tcpmp skips vids using A2DP . I guess I will only be using my S9 when Joging or Biking.

Chris
I'm having these probs on my 8525. No clue how to fix it. Theres a lot of storage and program memmory left on the darn phone. It used to work perfect, but suddenly had problems. The music stutters a lot with both wmp and tcpmp. I'm using the iphono minis with A2DP. These issues never existed with WM5 as far as I know, though the quality was of course lower. Perhaps the processes that up the quality of the stream are causing a trade of in CPU/memory consumption. Maybe that means lowering the quality (maybe via a registry tweak) somewhat will alleviate the problem?
I'd recommend switching to a wired headset
I got the same issue with my A2DP headset. It's not an issue that can be fixed with tweaking. A2DP is simply CPU intensive (not memory intensive).
Lowering the bitrate would help, but not enough I'm afraid.
tweaks that help
Hey there,
I had a little trouble with helmi's wm6 (excellent rom) and the original wm5. The following link has some reg tweaks (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10668). It's still a little gappy, but much better. Also, the sound quality seems to be a lot better.
